First day of workshop wasn't easy for the turn up, as dancers were a bit late and we got to know that they had miscommunication on what time to start. The class was really so good with our teachers from USA that's @time2swing. As they had to wait for us and we had fund doing the choreography of #FrankieManning first stop with #NormaMiller, as we are celebrating her birthday and also her legacy the queen of swing. We shall start sharing some videos online soon but for now just enjoy the pictures, from this Northern Uganda tour for introduction of #lindyhop and #swingdance. If you are out there interested in sharing your knowledge of Swing Dance history and it's values, just don't hesitate to DM us so that you can have time to share it with dancers in Northern Uganda. Also we are still looking for more support as we still have another district to reach out too. We have got a lot of different communities, and countries inviting us to introduce Lindyhop and Swing Dance to them but we lack that support for us to go to them. Let's get together and support each other for the growth of swing dance and Lindyhop in Africa too now. We are calling out loud to the swing dance and Lindyhop communities out there to come and stand with us on this cause, we are building up now. Thank you @time2swing once again everyone enjoyed the class even though we had to do it through zoom as with the current technology. #NormaMiller #FrankieManning #1920s #1930s #solojazz #solocharleston #firststop #swingout #Swingdance #swingdancing #gulu #swingdancelife #swingdancelessons #lindy #lindyhopper #NorthernUganda #blacklindyhoppersfund #lindyhopping #lindyhop #yoga #acroyoga #lindyhopping #instructorokurutgeorge #peacedanceproject #Ugandaswingkids #SwingDanceUganda (at Gulu, Uganda) https://www.instagram.com/p/CluVQwvIlfs/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Men in Uganda, in all countries, often hide behind a veil. A veil of power, of dominance, of omnipotence. While women are often more free with their emotions and expressions, men are guarded, forever burdened by the fear that if they expose their true humanity, they will be mocked and degraded. Men, it's time to come out of the shadows. Embrace the full spectrum of emotions and behaviors that all humans share. Relinquish your perceived power to embrace the Way of Jesus, the way of humble, self-giving love. #beyondgenderroles #professionalfeminist #NorthernUganda #PostWarRecovery #SustainableDevelopment (at Pajule, Pader, Uganda)

45 year old Grace Layere is one of the many landmine victims in Pader District, Northern Uganda. She was hit by a landmine in 2002 while in the garden with her 5 months-old daughter Ayaa on her back. Time has passed now and both were able to survive the blast with Layere getting a Right below the knee amputation.“I am glad that regardless of all, I managed to survive and my daughter wasn't hurt. She has now grown into a very lovely girl. I appreciate my husband an extra for always being here for me." The couple has six children and they and they grow a variety of crops, including pumpkins, millet, simsim, beans and maize. They also rear goats, pigs and chicken. A number of people have been victims of landmines that remained after the Kony war rebel activities in Northern Uganda. Many of them are moving-on with life though it is still taking time for some to cope-up. Unfortunately, some of the landmines still lie dormant in some places with some victims reported at the beginning of that very year 2014. ©Jjumba Martin 2014 / TPO #uganda #pader #northernUganda #kony #war #amputee #africa #tpo #development #kampala #documentary #woman #farmer #ig_africa (at Pader, Uganda)

A week in the life of African Revival: Week of December 7th 2015
This month, the School Demonstration Garden parents’ groups have been busy harvesting, processing and marketing their produce, and the Fundraising and Communications team was lucky enough to be able to observe this process from start to finish at Lujoro Primary School earlier this week. The dedication of this parents’ group to producing excellent quality crops is paying off  – customers have even started coming to the school to buy their produce!
As always, we hope you have been enjoying all our updates on our social media channels lately; if you missed them, you can like us here or follow us here!
Check out what has been happening this week at African Revival!
Have a great weekend everyone :)
Monday : On Monday the parents’ group at Lujoro Primary School Demonstration Garden harvested their crop of garden peas to sell at nearby Otwe market. This crop can be harvested weekly, providing the group with a steady source of income.
Tumblr media
Tuesday : The parents’ group at Labala Primary School Demonstration Garden distributed the first profits from the sale of their crops. 30% of the profits were presented to the School Management Committee to contribute to the development of the school.
Tumblr media
Wednesday : On Wednesday, Construction Project Coordinator Vincent visited the teachers’ house, constructed by African Revival, at Juba Road Primary School to check the structure. He received a warm welcome from the house’s smaller inhabitants!

Thursday: It’s bargaining time! AR Communications and Fundraising volunteer Sophie buys onions from a member of the marketing team at Lujoro School Demonstration Garden. The group travelled to Otwe market in Amuru district to sell their produce, and earned a grand total of 150,000UGX (£29) from their onion crop!

Friday: After a busy few days in the field, Sophie returned to the office to start processing the information and photos she collected from her visits to document the progress of the School Demonstration Gardens!
