I am both excited and terrified for Frozen 3,,,despite all of its flaws I really love Frozen 2 but I'm sad about all of the production problems it had and hope that Frozen 3 is given the time to deserves to fully flesh out its story ;-;
I really hope it expands more on the Northuldra, especially since it was revealed in a book that Iduna wasnt originally from that tribe. Theres just so much untapped potential regarding the Northuldra and spirits and Anna and Elsa's connection to it, I'm excited to see where it goes :)

FROZEN 3 and FROZEN 4 are both in development, and I can't wait!
The news sounded odd to me initially, I didn't expect anything like this from Disney Animation, but it became immediatly appealing the moment I realized the GREAT potential a double feature could have for the franchise, most importantly when Bob Iger specified “Jenn Lee, who created Frozen, the original Frozen, and Frozen 2 is hard at work with her team at Disney Animation on not one but actually two stories.”, which would mean:
More time to enstablish new elements, new characters, time to explore new lore and new places without the risk to rush everything;
Tumblr media
A bigger story that can help flesh out our protagonists in their new roles, their new wants and changes they might face, considering how the F2 ending brought many new possibilities;
Tumblr media
A narrative context where the new crysis (whatever it might be) could be explored even better, also allowing to maintain things in a complex prespective just as the Frozen movies like to do, where the matter of "good and evil" not at the center, and things are first of all deeply personal for the characters
Tumblr media
It seems to me that Jennifer Lee always wanted to delve deeper into things, this is why the Broadway Musical was a perfect opportunity for her and the Lopez to expand the characters and flesh out things in the story, also adding new elements that would've been useful for F2.
And when they worked on Frozen 2, they built it as the "second part" of the story, reconnecting almost all the aspects of the sequel to the 1st movie, and the story was clearly meant to be BIGGER and longer compared to what we ended up having because of numerous issues and rewrites. J. Lee and C. Buck didn't want to introduce something that would feel just as "a new adventure", and more about the actual characters evolving, see what they left unresolved, breaking the "Happy ending" scenario of F1, which also led them to NOT give the new human characters (Mattias and the Northuldra) the same relevance given to Spirits of Nature, in order to remain focused on Elsa, Anna and the rest of the gang.
Tumblr media
Now, Lee will most likely not direct or write these two new movies, but she is still directly involved, because it's both part of her job as CCO of Walt Disney Animation Studio and because Frozen is her (and Chris Buck) baby. It will be curious to discover with what idea Marc Smith came out with, but the fact he worked on the 1st Frozen as a storyboard artist and the became Director of Story for Frozen 2 says a lot about him and why Lee trusts him so much, and I'm sure they will follow the approach used with the 2nd movie and carry it on with 3 and 4. Numerous sagas used the two-parter approach, like the books adaptations of Harry Potter, Twilight and Hunger Games series, or more "original cases" like Pirates of the Carribeans or what we are getting now with the animated Spiderverse movies (Across and Beyond). But I think the best similarity (and probably what led to this ambitious choice) is with Avengers Infinity War/Endgame, where the BIG FINALE gets developed in two movies.

10 CURIOSITIES ABOUT FROZEN 2
Tumblr media
1 - The Northuldra Tribe and the plot of the dam was inspired by real life
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 1979 the Norwegian government decided to build a hydroelectric plant on the Alta River, but this would completely harm the salmon fishing and reindeer grazing that are the livelihood of the Sámi Tribe. They tried to oppose the construction, but were ignored and in the end the dam was built. But the protests they held were a major turning point for the tribe's relationship with the Norwegian government, which began to look more closely at the tribe even though it continues to commit various negligence towards it. In "Frozen 2" things were more drastic with King Runeard, Anna and Elsa's grandfather, creating the dam with the sole purpose of weakening the tribe and then managing to exterminate them because he considered them a risk to his throne due to their proximity with the spirits of nature and magic.
2 - Kristoff is technically a Northuldra before Anna and Elsa
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is no coincidence that Kristoff got along so well with the Northuldras and that people started to theorize that he is part of them since Kristoff is a Sámi or at least he was in the script "Frozen 1". In the film's script he and all the ice harvesters are called Sámi, which as I said at the beginning is the Northuldra Tribe from F2. As far as I know there is no confirmation in the franchise that brings the sides together (ice harversters and Northuldra), but considering that the Sámi Tribe is known for being a combination of different types of tribe, even having more than one language wouldn't be too wrong, and actually not unheard of since Anna and Elsa's mother's original tribe is different from the one she is shown participating in in F2 since her original tribe and family were completely wiped out when Iduna was 5 years old.
3 - Bruni or Sally
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the novelization of "Frozen 2" Olaf is in doubt about what name to give to the fire salamander, the options being Bruni and Sally. In the end he doesn't choose any of them and the book itself starts calling the salamander with the name Bruni. This is not the debut of the name Sally, in the Christmas short called "Olaf's Frozen Adventure" the stocking that Olaf hangs on the fireplace has the name Sally on it. And also about Bruni's name in the book "Dangerous Secret's: The Story of Iduna and Agnarr" which is a book that tells the past of Anna and Elsa's parents, Iduna calls the fire salamander with the name Bruni decades before Olaf choose this name for the Fire Spirit.
4 - Halima and Ryder have names inspired by real people
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Halima, who is Mattias' love interest, shares her name with her voice actress Halima Hudson, and Ryder, who is Honeymaren's brother, shares his name with Ryder Buck, who is the deceased son of director Chris Buck.
5 - Santino Fontana and the redemption of Hans
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Santino, who is the voice actor for the villain in "Frozen 1", even gave an interview saying that someone from Disney, who he obviously can't say who he is, told him that his character would return and I will have a redemption arc… Considering that the character since "Freezing Fever" has become the franchise's most recurring joke, appearing only to be humiliated as in the special "Once Upon a Studio" and in "Frozen 2" Elsa refers to him with the phrase "unreedemable monster" I have my doubts as to whether the person who said that to Santino really was someone from Disney or was playing a joke on him or was from a version of the script so early that perhaps the Northuldra Tribe didn't even exist yet.
6 - Lady Halverson and Woodsman
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speaking of the initial script we have these two figures, the first apparently was Mattias' initial love interest who, instead of being Halima, was a soldier in his battalion and the second is the mysterious being who transforms into a reindeer. We don't have any information about the two characters other than the video that can be found by typing: "Frozen 2 (2019) _ Queen Iduna _ Deleted Scene _ Exclusive Clip (HD)" and some art, and nothing else. "Woodsman" is just a nickname.
7 - Some of the deleted scenes were discovered or not
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The production of "Frozen 2" was so chaotic that it generated a documentary where it is revealed that there were several moments deleted from the film, to this day there is not much about it, but we have some books like "The Enchanted Forest". "The Enchanted Forest" is an adaptation of the film, but it is not a very faithful adaptation so much so that there are several differences… Could it be that some of these differences are deleted scenes? There is the origin of the wagon that the group goes to the Enchanted Forest and even new lines between Elsa and Honeymaren, and this was one of the moments that is mentioned as being cut in the documentary. I'm not going to make a guarantee, but perhaps some of these books that portray "Frozen 2" in a slightly different way are actually earlier versions of the script before the cuts? Theories.
8 - Elsa's romantic life in "Frozen 2" and Kristen Bell
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Although the theories and campaigns to give Elsa a girlfriend we have nothing official in the second film about Elsa's sexual orientation with Jennifer Lee herself, director, saying that the Snow Queen had a lot on her mind and wasn't ready. But going back to the deleted scenes, there are theories that Elsa would initially have romantic moments with Honeymaren, but they were deleted (in "The Enchanted Forest" the moments between them are new and just new dialogues) but there are some conceptual arts left like these two where Elsa presents intimately magic for the other woman in two stages of the film's development. But there is still this art where she does the same to Ryder which makes Kristen Bell, Anna's voice actress, enter this story, in an interview given to "SiriusXM" again the topic was "Elsa's girlfriend" with Honeymaren being mentioned, but Kristen Bell will mention the theme and ends up saying at the end that Elsa is free to choose and even has more than one option in the Enchanted Forest with her mentioning Ryder. Out of curiosity, the brothers Honeymaren and Ryder have already competed for Elsa in the mobile game called "Disney Magic Kingdoms" where they both try to take the Snow Queen for a walk through the forest, but Honeymaen arrives first, frustrating Ryder who still has to put up with the game itself. mocking him since the name of the mission was "barking up the wrong tree". Later, a festival takes place in Arendelle in this mobile game where Honeymaren offers herself as a saleswoman, wanting to do this just to please Elsa, and Ryder, upon realizing her feelings for the Snow Queen, decides to help… from rival to cupid.
9 - Anna would ask Kristoff to marry her
Tumblr media
In one of the deleted songs Kristoff would talk about his feelings, but in the end it would be her who would ask him to marry her. The song is "Get This Right" and the entire scene, still in progress, can be found on YouTube.
10 - Elsa's death
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is a rumor that in the film's original script Elsa would not thaw and would end the film frozen dead, giving a hint that she could return in the future. The main clue would be this concept art where Elsa appears unconscious, thawed with Nokk and if you paid attention to what I said, the main proof that the film would end with her frozen is an art of her thawed. There are still those who use the fact that she couldn't stop the wave as proof since the castle was originally going to be rebuilt, but I honestly don't believe it.

🔥Hot take: Anna is the true heroine of Frozen and was done dirty by the creators and is still mistreated by the fanbase too. She deserved more screentime and to be her own person instead of always running after Elsa, she also should have been the 5th element (ice makes no sense!!). Elsa is more selfish/self-centered and co-dependant of the two
Strongly agree | Agree | Neutral | Disagree | Strongly disagree
So I agree in part with this, but I also disagree significantly so it makes sense to split my answer down the middle. I agree that Anna is significantly underrated and underutilized by both the fandom and the creators. I would also agree that Anna is more of the actual protagonist than Elsa, though I'm not sure I would go so far as say one of them is a "true" heroine while the other isn't. (Elsa was narratively an antihero/antivillain in the first movie but her intentions were heroic (if misguided) enough that I don't feel comfortable saying only Anna is "truly" a heroic character).
I also agree that "Elsa (ice) as the fifth element" was monumentally stupid, and it would've been more interesting if Anna had turned out to have powers of her own. (Though not necessarily in the "elements" plot as is). But then again, I think pretty much everything about Frozen 2 is monumentally stupid (though not irredeemably stupid in the way Toy Story 4 is. Frozen 3, you can fix this mess. I believe in you!)
The thing that drives me absolutely off the wall is that the thesis that orients Frozen 2 is the antithesis of that of Frozen 1. (Frozen 1 is oriented around Elsa and Anna learning that they can rely on each other and not be afraid to be part of each other's lives. They don't have to be alone and in fact, can never be alone because they have each other. Frozen 2 is like... "um actually... Elsa is just 'too different' to stay in Anna's life permanently, even if that's what they both want. It's more important for her to be special and magical in isolation. She doesn't have a choice; it's her destiny even though Elsa feeling different and alone for so long is what has historically caused pretty much every problem for both her and Anna in the past. Support systems are for wusses; real peeps embrace rugged individualism." Thanks I hate it.)
Where I disagree with you is that I think you are being a bit unfair in your characterization of Elsa. (Although I will admit to being far more of an Elsa fan than an Anna one...but I do love both, I promise). Elsa is a character that I would describe as being "selfless to the point of selfishness." She has been conditioned into believing that her emotions--and by extension, herself--is always the problem. It's her fault; it's her responsibility. She's trained to see herself as the "most important" but only in the sense that she's the most "dangerous to herself and others."
And while she categorically does not want that, she inevitably ends up centering herself in everything so that she can protect everyone around her. She's probably aware that keeping away from Anna during their childhood hurt them both, but she's been raised to believe that Anna's safety is THE most important thing and therefore, she'll have to do whatever she has to do to maintain it.
I think it's important to remember that Anna's initial accident happened, while she and Elsa were playing and were happy. It's not just anger or sorrow or fear that impacts her powers. It's any and every strong emotion. Elsa believes that the only way to avoid hurting anyone is to keep her emotions as small, concealed and mild as possible. Is it unfair that Anna did not get a say in any of this? Absolutely. She is the one who should've gotten to decide whether staying close to Elsa was "worth the risk." But again, that is the parents' fault just as much as it is Elsa's.
Send me your fandom hot take and I will say what I think about it!

Want to know how I know Frozen 3 will most definitely not be great? The announcement of a Frozen 4.
The problem with Frozen 2 was that it had many, many ideas and they attempted, and utterly failed, to condense them into one singular linear story; the problem with Frozen 3 is that they "have so many ideas" that they realized they can't realistically condense them into one singular movie so their solution to "not repeat a frozen 2" is to instead push for ALL ideas to move forward which in turn has given them an overly lengthy cut.
Watching Frozen 1 in cinemas for the first time in a long while really reminded me how Frozen worked because it was very very simple and most of its heart was in the two "main" characters and how they navigated through life after a horrendous situation they were put through.
The heart of Frozen is not all the mystical and mythical elements that they can't get enough of attempting to push, hell, the most compelling part of Elsa as a character was just how raw and human she felt DESPITE having otherworldly powers.
I truly don't know which road they're taking the franchise through, but if the podcast and the books that have come out are anything to go by, it's straying way too far from what made the first movie compelling and enjoyable: its freaking simplicity.

Credit: Brittney Lee (D23 2024)
The first piece of concept just got leaked! What we can assume/theorize:
- Considering the general atmosphere, the movie will take place in Spring (as I expect cause we already got Fall in F2 and both Summer and Winter in F1). I'm just hoping it will be the next Spring after F2
-The spirits and lore they introduced in F2 won't be left out, or least Nokk won't
Tumblr media
- There's a slight chances the movie takes place a new places cause the trees look slighly different from the Enchanted Forest's
Tumblr media
Unless it's an area in the forest where the vegetation is quite different or I'm over analyzing
- We're gonna have either a real MAGICAL antagonist or a character who appears at such at first. They look like they have a cap so these horns could be fake
Tumblr media
- Their weapon reminds me a bit of the Northuldra's. It may be a different type but still one of their traditional tools
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- They're clearly not the same but the way the character is holding it is similar to how Yelena holds hers in this concept art (also made my Brittney Lee). Not to mention this Ryder concept art by Jin Kim. So maybe a sign of the return of our Northuldra characters...?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-The Northern lights are gonna have an important role in the movies (since it's confirmed F3 and F4 are a same story cut in halves)
Tumblr media
- We might meet the previous fifth spirit (or spirits)! It's a bit blurry and subtle but the two characters in front of the strange castle seems to quite have reindeer's horns. I'm even assuming the one on the left could be an actual reindeer
For those who are familiar with the deleted, Frozen 2 originally portrays a prologue where a character who could turn into a reindeer. It's kinda imply they were the fifth spirit
Tumblr media
I have a strong feeling Frozen 3 and 4 are gonna include a lot the ideas they couldn't include in Frozen 2. Unlike Frozen's, a lot of Frozen 2's deleted scenes could still make sense in the canon verse
Remember these are my personal assumptions, feel free to agree or disagree!

So, we know that there's going to be a Frozen 3 and 4. I hope that they acknowledge in the future films that Elsa and Anna are both the fifth spirit because they're the bridge, it has two sides. But I'm really wondering what it'll be about. Will they take ideas from the novels, finally show Anna and Kristoff being married -- will he finally get a backstop and not be a side character like Olaf and Sven?
It's called Frozen for a reason. And all that really ha was Kristoff went missing. So, it's very easy to have him look for his parents or them look for him.
Tumblr media
Now, I'm a personal fan of Yelena, Honeymaren and Ryder being related to Anna and Elsa. Iduna is seen as a lost member of the family and so most people don't remember her. Hence saying the shall is of the tribe and not specifically their mother. And I would just like them to not be forgotten again. I want to see the conflict, the harmony and how the Northuldrans don't trust trust Arendelle people.
Tumblr media
Elsa and Anna are Nordic, they're in the 1800s, please for everything holy dive down deep into their mythologies. There's so much to be added into the movies to keep the plot alive.
Tumblr media
And for now, I hope Elsa stay single. Or if she does get a partner they are a magic user and her. Someone who's opposite of her upbringing. So she can see she was never a danger and it's the fear out into her head that made her lose confidence. Because we all know the incident is Anna's fault. But because it was done by Elsa, she was different and King Papi scared her she grew anxious and distant. So, if she did get a partner it'd be nice to her to see in another life she wouldn't have had to live so sheltered if her father trusted her. I would say a Jack Frost version or genderbent because it would hit different if they had ice powers too. Someone so happy and filled with life, who brings joy has the same magic as her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, yeah. Plus, either way, I need them to expand Elsa's powers. Like she controls ice and snow and she was born with these powers. I know she can become more powerful than she is. Literally need her to become a tank. Okay, bye.

Frozen 3 & Frozen 4 core conflict might be something really cool
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first movie dealt with Elsa not being able to control her growing powers out of fear, most importantly after she struck Anna, which lead to their separation and isolation.
The second movie dealt instead with the past conflict between Arendelle and Northuldra, which enraged the Spirits and endargers the kingdom in the present, with Elsa having the responsability to solve the situation, followed by Anna who's afraid at the idea of losing everything she got in the 1st movie.
In both cases, it's a deeply personal situation, and in both cases it mantains the sisters and their relationship at the center.
And, most importantly, it's something that translates itself into a far more complex situation, where there isn't a matter of "Good Vs Evil" and Fear is the true villain of the story.
With a single story split into two movies, there could be the possibility to flesh out things even better than before, maybe facing the prespective of a war, or a cataclysm of some sort.
Surely it will be tricky to see where to lead the characters exactly, of course looking beyond what we know for sure by the F2 ending, between Elsa having found a purpose for her powers and looking after the Enchanted Forest, and Anna, now Queen of Arendelle, being finally engaged to Kristoff.
Considering they seem to be aiming at some sort of "final chapter" situation, and considering how personal things need to be for the protagonists, I would hope for some form of challenge by bringing back this treacherous piece of sh*t:

Current thoughts, hopes, ideas, etc. about Frozen 3 and 4:
I hope we see Anna and Kristoff's wedding, and I hope they FINALLY Get a Duet together. We'll probably get both of these if i'm being honest.
I don't think Hans will come back but i'd love to be wrong. either a redemption ark or he's still an asshole (though Hans fans might be mad if it's the latter, i'm fine with either or honestly)
I hope the Northuldra are back and get more screen time and more to do, would love to see more of Honeymaren and Ryder hanging out with the main 4.
I've been saying this for a while now but I really hope we get a Classic Disney Villain style antagonist for 3 and/or 4, and they get a big villain song. Would be cool if it was female villain or an evil couple.
I want less olaf or at least make him not as annoying.
I hope the new looks for Anna and Elsa are amazing. I loved their F2 designs but I think All of Anna's Frozen 1 looks are far better than her F2 Wardrobe, and IDK if they can be topped. Same goes for Snow Queen/5th Spirit Elsa from F2.
Finally, and most importantly, I hope both movies are good.
