“Padme, please.” He wanted to give in to her softness, but she stood before him, ramrod straight. She wasn’t wearing her ceremonial robes, only a soft sheath down to her ankles, but she might as well be costumed in armor. He collapsed on his back on the sleep couch. “I don’t know why it’s so hard to talk to you.”

“That’s because you’re not talking to me. You’re ordering me.”

“I’m just trying to keep you safe.”

“This is not the way to do it.” He looked up. She was smiling at him. She came and sat beside him.

“I know you worry about my safety,” she said in the soft tone he loved. “I worry about yours. We live in perilous times, Anakin. We’re in the middle of a war. I’m in danger no matter where I am. We’ve both been in some kind of danger since the moment you arrived to protect me.”

“Agreed. But do you have to volunteer for it?”

She took his hand and laced her fingers through his.

“I offered to go because I knew I would be safe. I knew the best Jedi in the Order would be there to protect me.”

He groaned. “Now don’t start flattering me.”

She grinned at him. “I meant Obi-Wan.”

He tossed a pillow at her, and she shrieked in surprise. She threw it back, and he held it suspended in the air with the Force.

“Are you still trying that same trick on me?”

“It’s worked in the past.” She lay down beside him. They faced each other, almost nose to nose.

“I’ll be careful,” she said.

“I won’t leave your side,” he said.

“Don’t,” she said, drawing him close. “I don’t want you to.”

i loveee the obsessive borderline creepy sappy love poems he spouts. i bet he has oodles of crumpled up paper filled with smudgy writing of poems cast aside

the way he inches closer to her, begs her for direction. tries at the very least to get her to understand what he’s going through, just spewing it as quick as he can think it bcos she needs to hear him

everything about this scene was so telling. some find it romantic, and some find it unrealistic to be considered romantic. but i think anakin as a character toes the line between just enough and too much. he’s so fascinating to me, because this creepy stalkerish vibe he gives is so unapologetically him. this is romance to him, this is how he shows his diversion and his love

people get touchy when ppl talk about padme and anakin’s relationship and let me say this. i like them together, i don’t hate them at all, i think they were perfect for the narrative of the story. but i know they weren’t the healthiest (what relationship is?) and anakin especially is not the healthiest. (let’s ignore the domestic abuse when she was pregnant for a sec, just put that stain aside)

i’ve noticed what he does to padme is lovebombing and maybe it was unintentional, but he fell in love with the idea of her as a child, and then he talks over and over again about how he needs to be with her. compliments her, and gives her speeches about how she makes him feel. and you see how sometimes in aotc and in the deleted scenes he talks over her, insists he knows better than her etc. if he loved her for her instead of the idea of her in his head, he’d know her capabilities and he’d admire them instead of doing what he actually did.

and i won’t say padme doesnt like it, but she did state she was uncomfortable when he stared at her with the eyes of an admirer and not a friend (at first). her reasoning for them not to be together was their careers and yes people make rash decisions when they’re about to die and she’s kissed him a couple times so it’s not like he forced her to be with him or forced her to love him ,,, but he did persist after she gave him hints not to.

anyways. i love padme and anakin’s dynamic, i think it really shows the cracks in them both and it captivates me tbh. anakin’s psychology is so fun for me to discuss and i know you just wanted to show me a tiktok but that scene is so pivotal to my point aaaa i love shit like this
