Probably the funniest (and saddest) thing about DAV is that... I feel no urge or desire to replay it. There is just no point.

I can't go back and make different choices. Cuz there is none

I can't go back and look how my decisions from the previous games might change the world state. Cuz they won't

I can't start a new "evil" playthrough, making the worst decision possible. Cuz there is no evil decisions to begin with

I can't go back and not recruit some of my companions. Cuz it's literally impossible!

The only changeable thing this game has is a fucking romance and even romance somehow sucks ass!

Veilguard doesn't feel like a Dragon Age game for a multitude of reasons:

It doesn't allow you to butt heads with your companions over *anything*. It doesn't allow you to even converse with your companions outside of scripted scenes — you can't just approach them and open a dialogue wheel until they want to talk to Rook; you'll just get one-liners Rook can't respond to and passive NPC-exclusive interactions that Rook happens to overhear.

It doesn't allow you to ask about/discuss the world, culture, organizations, or its history (i.e. any previous installments, or your character's selected backstory). It never references any game outside of Inquisition, and barely references Inquisition despite being a direct sequel to it. None of your previous games decisions are imported or considered. There isn't even a proper "canon" they present, the past is just a void.

There's no small side stories, barely any ambient/passing npc talk, nor many side quests, (let alone complex or fulfilling ones just filler for large scale plot), there are companion Loyalty Quests that all converge to the main story that ends in a Suicide Mission.

Veilguard doesn't feel like a Dragon Age game, because it plays like a Mass Effect game.

watch us getting exactly 0 info about what's briala is up to in veilguard despite her being the first person in modern times to actually use eluvian network to fight a violent dictator, something we as rook actually will be doing for the entire game. watch her, a brown lesbian, never ever be mentioned in the game again, despite the very real possibility that she's personally controlling one of the biggest empires in current thedas.

Mary Kirby started out describing Lucanis as bisexual and after game release said he's panromantic and demisexual. I say this as a demi person who romanced Lucanis: his romance is underwritten and feels lacking :( the demi label honestly feels like retroactively trying to bandaid that. but it's still very lovely and most fans are happy to run with the demi reading, it just doesn't change the fact there's a lack of reactivity and content. I hope you still enjoy it!

This ask articulated the thoughts I’ve been having since the Demi info was given to me. I have a Demi friend who also feels this way about lucanis’s romance. His sexuality is not an excuse for cut content. It is however enrichment for the content I will be creating out of spite for the cuts (lovingly)

advice on writing character death scenes from the official Warrior Cats app. if you care

veilguard is making me hate assan more and more. not only is he in every single fucking davrin scene and conversation, he's center stage for all of them. you can't even lock in the romance without an interruption to go "btw, assan will literally never be more than five feet away from davrin", which rook always responds to by saying that's part of davrin's charm. ???

took davrin and taash to the wetlands and they have some banter that's just talking about the consistency of assan's feces. and if that wasn't bad enough later they have ANOTHER bit of banter that's just a continuation of that one.

the culmination of davrin's character quests doesn't have a thing to do with him as a character. i haven't yet seen the result of sending the gryphons to the wardens, but even in the arlathan ending there's nothing about him, idk, wanting to make overtures towards his former clan and at least see them again instead of just assuming they'd scorn him, or reconsidering what he considers his inherent nature and purpose, or anything? he doesn't really address his thoughts on the gray wardens after everything that's learned.

everyone else's quest is ultimately about them and their own attitudes, even when the obligatory stooge plays a central part (emmrich's quest is ultimately about emmrich himself and not manfred. you could still have his main quest without manfred being there at all). but why would davrin change at all? bioware apparently just sees him as a vehicle through which they will make you see this stupid fucking bird

it should be COOL that gryphons are back and that davrin has one! but ultimately i never want to see this wretched flying rat again

BG3 has two of the most thoughtful, unapologetic, no holds barred depictions of men with abusive female partners I've every seen (Wyll + Mizora and Gale + Mystra), which is so rare to see in any media but especially video games, and some of the Larian writers seem determined to convince me it was 100% by accident
