I was not expecting my post about changes in Kaito and Kokichi's interactions to garner so many comments along the lines of, "huh, that's weird, I've only ever heard of JP Kaito's TEN BILLION homophobic transphobic misogynistic lines being removed by the localization team, you're telling me he was sometimes nicer in the original Japanese?" When 1. what they're really referring to is a single line of dialogue and 2. yeah guys, isn't it crazy what you find when you actually analyze the text instead of blindly believing fandom rumors? Anyway everyone go read this thread and remember that if Kaito is a raging homophobe, chances are you have a favorite anime character who has used the exact same language he did but their fandom chose to ignore it completely.

People will be like “yesss unmask! We’ll still care about you the same :)” then you spend a really long time working on unmasking and by the end realize everyone has slowly stopped caring about you and started ignoring you, babying you, or making fun of you

Not even just neurotypicals and not even just allistics

Communication is difficult for me compared to a lot of people I know. I don’t really know the “rules”. Masking for me often ends up as mimicking those around as best as possible and often staying quiet. Unmasking looks like talking mostly about my special interests and hyperfixations, stimming a LOT (often very very noticeably), not making eye contact or using hand gestures, and sometimes being a little more monotone.

There are others in the group who are diagnosed or suspected autistic. Two are very similar to me in where I lay on the spectrum. All three of us dealt with basically the exact same problem.

The rest seem to think that because THEIR autism looks like stimming slightly more and being kind of quiet to those around them, the rest of us are lying, using it as an excuse, or just not putting in effort. Their autism is valid but it’s not a valid excuse to ignore the rest of us.

One of my friends who was dealing with the same thing and I tried to say they were being kind of ableist towards both autistic and physically disabled people (whole other thing there…) and the response was basically “no cuz a lot of us are suspected autistic” which does NOT make you immune to being ableist.

If one more person ignores me completely and leaves me out of a conversation, tells me to chill out because I’m rocking while I talk about something I like, makes fun of me for talking about what I’m interested in, ignores me telling them something they are doing as a “joke” is genuinely overstimulating me, or treats me like a 3 year old child because I enjoy things, I will screech. If one more person defends one of those actions with “I didn’t know” (after I told them 50 million times), “you stopped talking to us first” (I stopped talking to them as much after months of this behavior going on), some variation of “I’m autistic too” (as if that excuses ableism), or flat out ignores me bringing up problems, I am going to give up and block half the people I know irl istg
