2. What's your total AO3 word count?

3. What fandoms do you write for?

One Direction. I use the BBC Radio 1 RPF tag for pairings with Nick Grimshaw, and I used the Shawn Mendes (Musician) one a few times, too.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

you came into my life, caught up in your love affair, baby, you're the end of june, an honest mistake and tell me what you need

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Yes! I love replying to comments, even when I feel awkward about it. I really like getting replies from authors, I find it discouraging not to, so that's partly why. But a nice comment really makes me day, and I want to let people know I appreciate that. But I might miss one occasionally, and sometimes I don't reply if I think the commenter is being rude.

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

It's probably my first fic, This Town. The whole fic is Niall processing Zayn leaving the band – but more importantly leaving him, and they don't get back together in the end. It's not my fault, Niall wrote a sad song! But also I was in the thick of grieving, so. That's what happened.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I almost, almost always write happy endings, so I could really pick this one at random lol, but I'll go with enough to make a girl blush. I really love how far Louis has come at the end of that fic and how happy she and Niall are together and how good they are together. Plus, I wrote a happy little timestamp for Harry and Zayn (count me in).

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I've gotten comments that don't sit well with me, but not really. I did post a fic set at the beginning of COVID before I knew how bad it would get, and someone messaged me to say they were sorry about the hate it was getting... but I didn't see any?

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

yes! I write smut that I find hot, girl direction and boy direction. When I started writing, I felt like I wrote absolutely terrible smut and I worked really hard to figure it out. Practice makes progress, baby.

10. Do you write crossovers? What the craziest one you've written?

I've written a couple of reality show AUs with the actual people from the shows in the fic – you came into my life and you wanna be on top? Nothing too crazy!

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I think someone stole a shiall one-shot and posted it on Wattpad. Weirdly, I feel like I haven't made it because that doesn't happen to me more often.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

yes! Most recently, someone asked if they could translate pink like the paradise found into Russian and they were so lovely.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I took part in a round robin for Nic's (@louandhazaf) birthday a few years ago! (Louis referring to merlot as the basic bitch of wines was me!) Co-writing has come up as an idea a couple of times, but the timing or idea etc has never been right.

14. What's your all-time favorite ship?

I kind of have to fall deep for a pairing to write them, so I love a lot of pairings! Aside from larry, I think gryles might be my favorite. Something about the pining best friends who can't be together because of... REASONS just gets me where I live.

15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I had an idea for a lilo exes to lovers AU based on bennifer and I wrote a snippet that I really liked for it, but I felt like I was white washing Jennifer Lopez, if that's the right word? Like you can't separate her from the fact that she's Puerto Rican, so casting Louis in that role didn't feel right. I could try to figure out another way to approach it, but I don't really think I'll feel inspired enough.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think I'm really good at continuity, and writing scenes with lots of people and involving all of them.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I always feel like I start sentences with "Niall did this" and "Harry did that" (sorry, writing narry at the moment). So, narration that's not action? Does that make sense?

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I think it can be done effectively. I liked how the French worked in Darling, so it goes. It made sense to include because Harry moved to a country where he didn't speak the language. I tried to make the meaning of the French clear when Harry understood it, but I didn't include translations in the notes because Harry didn't understand a lot, and I wanted the reader in his shoes. I worked really hard on the French because I don't speak it, but I asked @somethingwittyorother to look it over and their feedback was incredibly helpful.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

One Direction!

20. Favorite fic you've written?

It's usually the last fic that I posted, so right now it's Suddenly Last Summer. I had the best time writing it and it was such a fulfilling creative outlet, and I just love it.

The author alison has some great poly and voyeurism smut. Won’t You Jingle My Bells by grimouis is good holiday 3-some smut. 😇 I recently stumbled across (it has basically no tags and no description) A Light, A Shiny Gold by vashtanerados and really liked it - a thoughtful fic, with a moment of deep kindness and understanding at the end that made me cry. A new pwp Louis/omc is Bet On It by nouies— the omc is Louis’ boyfriend who’s also concert security and it’s 🔥. There’s an ongoing poly series, For My Lovers, with Louis/Harry/omc by kikiberoski16 that’s good; the omc is a strong character and not just an afterthought. And there’s a couple Greg James ones I really like: Always Keep You Next To Me by lululawrence and Getting A Head For Heights by LadyAJ_13. (Sorry this is so self-indulgently long 😞). I’d love to hear your recommendations!

I might have read some of those tomlinshaw but they're not in my saved fics except those by alison hahaha

I did start the Bet On It series a while back and looooooved it (it was so timely!) but I forgot to check for new chapters... I will do so! Love their Louis/footballer series too (which seems to be completed now :/) I will def check out the holiday smut - 'tis the season after all!

If you also want something on that theme, Smile Again by mistresscurvy is a lilo fake relationship that takes place during Christmas and it's really cute! Love The New Posh and Becks by that author too (love a good football au!)

The 2 fics that I re-read all the time are Let's Break the Internet, some excellent OMC smut... very unfortunately it's an orphan account so I have no idea who wrote it and can't tell them how I adoooore this one. The other one is To reach a port we must set sail by thedeathchamber.... Henry Cavill and Italy... what else???

I've probably mentioned those in my previous fic recs but A Tear in the Sky by zanni_scaramouche which is a story about a cult, omegaverse, Niall's POV and not smut/love story.

Zouis: To Catch a Thief by StormDancer; Favourite Boy and New York Kiss by wordsnnotes; Stuck In An Eternal Spring by flamboyo would be my top 3. See also a previous rec post and here. (Louis/OMC recs here).

I have opened and bookmarked SO many fics that I have then abandonned because honestly there's SO much. At some point I was reading only stuff under 10K. Recently I switched to IWTV fics, they have some excellent authors too and I feel slightly less weird reading fanfic based on a work of fiction. But I'm always grateful for some good recs :)

This was very hot and also I loved how they handled the situation? That might be a weird comment for a fic like this but it’s an awkward position to be in, and I really appreciated how the characters communicated and dealt with things.

Uncharted Territory - Lalalaartje - One Direction (Band) [Archive of Our Own] - E, 3k - canon, fluff and smut. Okay, wow. So this author wrote this as a prequel to one of my fics, and I’m incredibly glad I managed to inspire them because now we all have this to enjoy. It’s five times the length and perfect and you should all go read it right now!

leave my heart open - temerity (forsanethaec) - One Direction (Band) [Archive of Our Own] - E, 29k - canon. To be honest, I forgot to make notes for this one, read it almost two months ago and have a terrible memory. But it’s a long, plotty, canon Nouis fic with angst and pining, you know I’m reccing it for a reason.

You know you’re in safe hands with this author. 6. Work I’m most proud of (and why): Darling, so it goes. I’m proud of myself for finishing it, because it took about three years to research and write and I had about three bouts of horrible writer’s block on it during that time. And I’m proud that it’s exactly what I wanted to write and that I posted it even though I wasn’t sure if people would respond to it. It has the heart and warmth that I try to infuse my writing with. It’s me, on a page. 

7. Work I’m least proud of (and why): something to dream about. I still feel like reworking it, even though it posted in October. I don’t think it’s bad, but I think it could be better.

8. Share or describe a favorite review you received: I would say this year it was the experience of posting make you mine this season and getting comments and reactions every day. I’ve never had people engaging with a fic that way because I’ve never posted a wip before. I gave myself some anxiety a few times (Will people be mad I didn’t write the scene with Louis’ family?? Is this zarry ending the kind of happy people want???) but everyone was so kind and lovely and it really made my heart grow three sizes.

9. A time when writing was really, really hard: It’s kind of hard right now. I don’t feel very motivated or excited about writing, even though I really like my current wip. I think it’s because I’m having a hard time at work, it’s kind of killing my motivation to do anything, I just want to curl up on the couch and self soothe all day.

10. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you: In enough to make a girl blush, I thought it would be more of a slow burn before I got to the smut, but truly the first time the Louis and Niall characters hung out, they wanted to hook up right away, so that’s what they did!

11. A favorite excerpt of your writing: from like sun on the rise

“I don’t know if like is a strong enough word,” she confesses, continuing to open boxes so she doesn’t have to look at Louis while she spills her guts. “Like… if that was anyone else trying to talk to me about casting a circle, whatever that means, I would think they were full of shit. But with Harry, it’s like I can tell she really means it, you know? And I start to think, oh, maybe it’s not so bad, I guess I get how that might be comforting to believe in.”

“Whoa.” Louis stops unpacking the box and just looks at Nick.

“I know! It’s like, who am I?” Nick stops working too and sits on one of the unopened boxes. “With every other girl I’ve had a crush on, I’ve always kind of mentally edited out the stuff I didn’t like about them. You know? Like remember Ariana?”

“Yeah, she was hot.”

“So hot, and funny and cool and smart and–”

“Pretentious.”

“So fucking pretentious,” Nick agrees, running a hand through her hair. “So I kind of just ignored that part. That way, I could still have a crush on her.”

Louis shrugs, laughing. “Been there.”

“But Harry.” Nick blows out a breath. “Harry is different. All of her weird stuff, like auras and spells and whatever – that’s exactly the type of thing that I would usually just ignore. I do this all the time, I get a crush for a few weeks, I ignore some stuff, maybe we go out a couple of times, and then it ends because they were all wrong for me. But with Harry, everything I learn about her just makes me like her more. It’s… intense. And I know I haven't known her that long, but I’m starting to think that maybe this isn’t just a crush.”

“So why do you look sick to your stomach? Isn’t this a good thing?”

“But what if she doesn’t like me back?”

“Nick.” Louis levels her with a look. “Are you serious?”

“Is that a rhetorical question, or–”

“Of course she fucking likes you back,” Louis says, turning back to the opened box next to her and unearthing a bag of filters. “She’s been coming here to study every time you have a shift. You text constantly when you’re not together. You speak in shorthand, you two don’t even need to finish sentences around each other.”

“So you think–”

“I know she likes you. And listen, Nick,” Louis says, looking over her shoulder, “don’t fucking hurt her, okay? Or you’ll have me to deal with.”

12. How did you grow as a writer this year: By trying different things! I love challenging myself that way. I wanted to see if I could good alpha/omega girl direction smut (and I think I did!). And I wrote my first advent fic! After I came up with the basic idea, I had to think about how to pace two stories and interconnect them and keep each chapter short enough so people could read along if they wanted to, and I’m really happy with how it turned out.

13. How do you hope to grow next year: By continuing to try new things!

14. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc): I have SO MANY positive influences, truly my little community is an embarrassment of riches. I’m going to say @queenofquiet17​ who doesn’t even go here but always cheerleads my fics and helps me when I need it. She gave me a lot of suggestions for queer literature to include in make you mine this season, and then for my birthday she went to the bookstore from the fic and bought three of the books for me! When I opened the package, I cried. She always makes me feel like I’m part of the queer community and like I’m enough, and that means so much to me. 

15. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year: I wrote still, somehow after my husband trimmed my split ends for me. I was in the middle of a depressive episode and I didn’t realize until I was writing in Liam’s voice that I felt guilty about it, even though it’s not something my husband would ever resent me for.

Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year: I definitely feel more excited about the american tragedy au idea after posting about it, so I might actually attempt it this year even though it’s a darker idea and my fics always end up being nicer than I think they will.

thanks. Amelia!! This was such a nice ask to get <3 Okay, so I'm usually really decisive, but I had a hard time choosing my faves today. Here are the five I settled on:

we should open up (before it's all too much) Writing this fic made me feel less alone during a horrible time in my life and it will always be special to me.

this is my jam I think about the friend I wrote this fic for every day and I know it would have made him happy.

Darling, so it goes THE Grace Kelly AU. I'm not going to lie, I wish this fic had connected with more people (even though its stats are nothing to complain about). But it is exactly what I wanted to write and I will always love it.

like sun on the rise I just really LIKE this fic. I feel like it was me kind of breaking through to what I really want to do more in my writing and in girl direction specifically.

enough to make a girl blush I feel like I lived, ate, slept, breathed this fic while I was writing it. It was a hard mode to shift out of, and I just love what this fic became.

But maybe… maybe on some level she did know. She always gravitated toward Niall, she always felt safe around her, but she could never explain why. Maybe she had a crush too, even then. Maybe that was why.

thank you to @zanniscaramouche and @crinkle-eyed-boo for tagging me to open my current WIP and search for words to share! Since I have two sets of words, I decided to split them up between two WIPS.

feel

The moment feels big, monumental, like Niall has something important to say, but in the end she just gives Louis another quick kiss.

Niall laughs, and it’s the exact sound that Louis remembers, more a cackle than a laugh.

Louis buries her face in Niall’s neck, inhaling her outdoorsy scent.

home

There’s nothing to wear; her clothes were good enough back home, but she just can’t picture herself in anything she owns for a night out in the city with Niall’s friends.

“Are you ready?”

Louis glances over her shoulder when hears Niall calling to her from the hallway, but she doesn’t bother answering. She turns back to her closet, staring at the shelves and hoping that a new outfit magically appeared in the last five seconds. There’s nothing to wear; her clothes were good enough back home, but she just can’t picture herself in anything she owns for a night out in the city with Niall’s friends. They���re going to take one look at her and laugh her all the way back home to her small town. Louis sighs, burying her face in hands. 

Maybe she just shouldn’t go.

“Hey, there you are.” 

Louis startles when Niall wraps her arms around her waist, but quickly settles into the touch, leaning her weight against Niall’s body.

“What’s wrong?” Niall asks, kissing Louis’ cheek. “I thought you’d be ready and waiting at the door.”

“I can’t go,” Louis says, gesturing to her closet. “I don’t have anything to wear.”

“I’m sure you have something, baby,” Niall says, grabbing her phone from her back pocket and checking the time. “But we could stop somewhere if you really want to.”

Louis wriggles out of Niall’s hold, turning and taking a step back so she can see what Niall is wearing. Of course, she looks effortlessly cool in a pair of jeans and a plain white t-shirt. 

“You look great,” Louis says, tugging the hem of Niall’s t-shirt. “Everyone’s going to wonder what you’re doing with me.”

“Baby,” Niall says, gathering Louis up in her arms. “No, no, no, no. You’ve got that backwards, I promise. What’s going on, are you nervous?”

“Yeah,” Louis admits, looking down at the floor. “Yes! Okay? I’m really nervous. What if your friends don’t like me?”

“They’re going to love you,” Niall promises, kissing the tip of Louis’ nose. “You don’t have to worry about dressing for them, just wear something that makes you feel good. And, uh…”

“What?” Louis looks up, meeting Niall’s soft blue eyes. “What?”

“It’s not the type of place that will have, like, aggressive alphas. So you don’t need to, um, cover up like you usually do. If you don’t want to.”

“Oh,” Louis says. She hadn’t realized that Niall noticed she did that. “Oh. Okay.”

“Is there anything you want to wear and haven’t had the chance to?”

Louis hides her face in Niall’s neck, inhaling her fresh, outdoorsy scent and noting in satisfaction that Niall still smells like her after that afternoon.

“I don’t want to say,” she says at last. “I don’t want you to laugh.”

“I won’t laugh,” Niall says, rubbing Louis’ back. “I promise.”

“I, um…” Louis toys with the hem of Niall’s t-shirt. “I’ve kind of always wanted to wear a black bra under a white tank top? Like on that show, you know the one?”

“The one we used to hide in my basement and watch in the middle of night during sleepovers? With the single omegas in the city? Wait, why would I laugh? That sounds hot.”

Louis pulls back and looks at her. “Really?”

“Really,” Niall says, leaning in and lightly nipping her lower lip. “You could wear a flannel or a jean jacket over it if you want, and if you feel comfortable taking it off later, then you can.”

“I have a flannel shirt,” Louis says, glancing at her closet. “It’s red. But there’s a rip over the knee on my jeans.”

“So? That’s hot, too.”

saturday snippet

I was surprised my brain let me write this week but it DID and I made progress on my fic for louis rare pair fest:

“So then the guy said that he was going to close his accounts, and Emily just looks him dead in the eye and asks if she can help him close them out then and there.”

Niall cackles. “I love Emily. Let me guess, the guy beat it pretty quick after that?”

“Yeah,” Louis says, shaking her head. She slows to a stop at the side of the walkway in the park Niall had dragged her to that morning and takes a sip from her water bottle. “They always think that threat is going to really scare us or something, but it’s just like yes, please, go away and never come back. We don’t set the interest rates, you know? Talk to the CEO.”

“Hey, let’s stretch here since we already stopped,” Niall says, already lowering her body into a lunge. She shakes her head when Louis rolls her eyes. “You’re going to thank me for this later.”

“I’m not,” Louis grumbles, checking Niall’s form and trying her best to imitate it. “I hate exercise.”

“You’re going to like it better when we’re done,” Niall promises, switching to the other side. “When the endorphins hit. You’re lucky, most people have to pay me for this.”

“Is this going to become a regular thing? You kidnapping me for exercise on Saturday mornings when I could be sleeping in?”

“Yeah, definitely.” Niall sits on the ground with her legs spread out in front of her a V shape. She waits for Louis to sit next to her, and then reaches to grab one of her feet in a stretch. “Working a desk job like you do forty hours a week is a great way to get out of the habit, lose muscle tone. I don’t think you need to lose weight or anything, but being active is good for you, physically and mentally.” 

Louis rolls her eyes again as she follows along with Niall’s stretches, but she knows from the smile on Niall’s face that Niall knows she doesn’t really mean it.

“And besides,” Niall adds, “you need the mental health benefits of exercise if you want to keep your cool with asshole customers like that.”

“Emily is so good with them,” Louis says, picking up her water bottle and abandoning the stretches that Niall is still doing next to her. “I kind of dread her days off, but Clark is good at keeping an eye out and walking over if it looks like I need help.”

“Are you still picking up a vibe between him and Emily?”

“Yeah,” Louis says, nodding as she takes a drink of water and looks around the park. She would never give Niall the satisfaction, but she can admit to herself that it’s a beautiful day and it’s nice to be outside. “Just like in the way they joke around and stuff. It’s weird, they seem like a really good fit, but…”

“But what?”

“But he’s a beta.”

“So?”

“So… she’s an omega. And I know she used to date Everett.”

Niall shrugs. “I don’t think your sexual history defines your sexual identity. Just because she dated an alpha doesn’t mean she can’t like a beta, right?”

“I guess,” Louis mumbles. What Niall said makes sense, and now that she’s said it, it seems pretty obvious. She sighs. “I feel kind of dumb. There’s all this stuff that I don’t know. That I never thought about before.”

“Come on,” Niall says, standing up and dusting her hands off before offering one to Louis. “Let’s keep moving. You’ll be too distracted to feel dumb for something you don’t need to feel dumb about. You don’t know something until you know it, yeah?”

“Yeah.” Louis takes Niall’s hand and tries to match her pace as they continue on the walkway. “I did some Googling this week. Like labels and stuff. It was kind of confusing.”

“Oh yeah? What was confusing?”

“Well, I mean, I always thought I was just, like… straight. You know?” Louis glances at Niall, relieved when she just nods, seemingly unbothered. “But then with you and me, I guess that doesn’t really fit anymore?”

“It doesn’t fit anymore or it doesn’t feel right anymore?”

“I don’t know!” Louis throws her hands up in frustration. It’s so hard to put everything she’s feeling into the right words.
