I could honestly go on for a REALLY long time about why I ship BurningCheese/GoldenSpice. But I'll try to distill/narrow down my thoughts the best I can so my answer isn't longer than the Bible

I adore the enemies to lovers trope and hero/villain pairings in general. I did long before Cookie Run and I will long afterwards

I like how they complement and contrast against each other, aesthetically + personality-wise + backstory-wise

I love how they interact with each other. I love how they talk and snipe at each other. Golden Cheese's frustrated yet unyielding confidence and wit VS Burning Spice's brash, raucous excitement is fun to see. (The back-and-forth they have during their fight in episode 6 is dangerously close to how I've written them in my fics, even before the episode came out. So technically, in a way, my fics have been canonized lol)

It's fun imagining them together in different ways. A one-sided crush/obsession on Burning Spice's part is fun in a dark way (my Yandere Spice). So is a mutual love and respect between them. Main canon for me is a slow burn romance and a slow redemption arc for Spice alongside it. I also have an AU where Golden corrupts and becomes a Beast herself, and they become an evil villain couple. I have another where Spice doesn't get better and Golden doesn't get worse, they just have the standard forbidden love affair that they hide from the world (the latter out of fear of judgement, the former just so no one can try to keep them apart). I've got a million story ideas with them. You can do all sorts of things with them imo. And I think it works because of how they bounce off of each other. Put them in different situations and see how their relationship changes/adjusts/adapts, see if love can exist and how

I like their size difference. Spice is significantly taller and wider than Golden and it's really funny to see lol

The way they and their relationship/dynamic parallel actual Egyptian and Indian mythology (the latter in particular) is absolutely unreal

They follow each other around in my kingdom almost 24/7. Literally every single time I log in they're next to each other or one is trailing behind the other while they walk somewhere. If they want to be together that badly, I'm not going to stop them

They are literally the cycle of life and death, they have the single most important connection of all the Beasts and Ancients, one simply cannot go on without the other for together they make up the foundation of the goddamn cosmos

It actually all started with me and someone irl joking about Burning Spice having a stalker crush when the very first trailer came out. Then I went "haha that could be a funny fic". Then I wrote it and went "wait this is an interesting idea". Then episode 5 came out and I went "wait wtf does he actually want her??? He's acting like he does in my fic!!!" Then I wrote more and got even more attached to the one-sided attraction dynamic. Then I started imagining them in an actual, normal relationship and how that might pan out. Then I started writing stuff for/about that and I got extremely attached to that. Now they have a fully fleshed out relationship and they're married and have two kids, and I have a billion side stories and AUs, and any other ship involving either of them viscerally repulses me. I unironically memed too close to the sun and immediately fell straight down into BurningCheese hell (but it's ok, I like it here and I don't plan on leaving ever)

-I changed Pinkie's major from film to just undeclared. I think she eventually does land on Film. She just has a lot of interests! Her dream has always been to one day direct films, and I think she comes to love them even more while developing ideas her with the group as she winds up in a Director/Producer position for most of them. BUT also every time she takes a class in a different program she cant help but fall in love with that way of making art too. So she has a hard time picking for a while and changed her major a couple times before landing on Film.

-Pinkie and Berrie bond a lot over a shared interest in vocal synths (tho Berrie knows more about them than her).

-The two made Pinkie's vtuber model together!

-the fandom wiki says PJ is from germany?? Idk how canon that is tbh but ive decided to embrace it i guess

-Rooney's canon name is Scarlet Rose, but i thought it was kinda lame especially when Rosie Redwood is also in this line sooo I renamed her! Stuck to the color name puns tho. Mar Rooney. Maroon. Haha

-Speaking on her though i love that shes from texas and likes writing scifi mystery type stuff and that being said i just Know deep in my bones that she was a Voltron Legendary Defender fan and Keith was/is 100% her favorite. She has a continued fondness for mothman specifically cuz of this.

-PJ and Rooney actually talk about fandom and shows/movies ALL the time. They dont have a ton of overlapping interests, but where they do? The two literally never shut up.

-Rosie is such a random character, like outside of her design she feels very poorly considered. So I scrapped the cosmetology thing and made her an illustrator instead! I think it works better with her love of making art in nature. I can see her being really into illustrated guide books. I think shes a bit snooty when it comes to art too. It takes being friends with other artists to become more open minded.

-I like the idea that Rosie is mainly friends with Rooney and Berrie ontop of that. The three of them often tag team storylines and how theyd interpret them into different mediums. Rosie will draw up a bunch of concept stuff while Rooney writes up a pitch bible and Berrie will start making shit move and throwing in her own ideas on camera angles and character designs.

-as an animation major Berrie was required to take a sound design class early on, which is where she met Oliver! Hes very laid back, and likes to go with the flow, but functions a little like the "mom" of the group. Often reminding the girls to take breaks, drink water, stop looking at their screens lest they get eye strain etc. He's multi-talented tbh but Music is his one true passion and he likes how the girls are always giving him collaboration opportunities.

-Oliver and Rosie like to talk sports a lot, both having played a bunch when they were younger and throughout high school.

-Lavender Lynn is Oliver's number one "person who needs constant reminders to settle down" she is in a constant buzz of trying to get the best shots and is utterly obsessed with the process of artistic documentation. Everything must be documented.

-the whole school loves her for this actually, she has a whole side gig where other students hire her to help photograph their projects. She saves everything she earns from this for her future dream plans to visit paris. She has it set really, many of the artists who she helps photograph now will remain steadfast clients of hers forever onward.

-PJ and Lynn actually took a print media class together at one point. Which didnt at the time spark an everlasting friendship. But it did give PJ an easier in to ask for Lynn's help documenting a project the group was working on. One of Lynn's first times photographing them work happened to fall on a day where Rosie had planned to trick everyone into going on a nature walk sans devices... Lynn wound up really appreciating this outing and decided to continue hanging around the group even after that project had ended.

Taehyung is glaring at you.

“Quit being a brat already.” He rolls his eyes but you don’t respond, it irks him so much, he doesn’t like your silence.

Taehyung doesn’t know how to handle you, or himself if he’s being truthful. Your relationship with him is fragile, he knows, he can see it breaking into pieces that he won’t be able to pick up.

But he can’t let that happen.

“YN.” He calls out your name, “you know that I won’t let you go out so why are you even trying huh?” He grabs your face and caresses your skin gently.

It makes you sick, how can such a monster like him even try to act gentle with you.

“Don’t touch me.” You slap his hand away, he sighs softly, his eyes make you nervous, you know he’s holding back his anger.

I just like the concept so much of Vika and Saran. The drawing how he gets craddle knowing that he will get eventually eaten but they are so fluffy and healthy and tearing at the boys because AAAAHHH. Im so obsessed with this concept right now, maybe its my sick brain needing something to cling too. Tenderness in a darker concept.

And keeping it short. Do you get the concept of liking a character a certain specific way but everyone else i want to talk with about the character is just like "yea he is hot, yea he looks cool" but they never go into deeper character analysing ways and then i dont want to talk with them at all about that character.

i like to think vika and sarans relationship is like this whole "dark love" themed, but in a consensual, non toxic way as i usually like AHHA (toxic yaoi/yuri my beloved). the super early super first idea was to go into toxic iirc but as i fleshed out their dynamic, saran turned so soft and gentle with vika and i like this so much better. it feels like its supposed to be like this with them: love and tenderness in a gloomy/dark setting

theres genuine, tender, healthy love for each other, both being right there when the other needed it the most. all vika wants is to look into sarans eyes and bask in these feelings and sarans love he finds there, yet every look costs him minutes of his life. their love is literally eating at him but its what he willingly chose and what brings him happiness. and he knows even when his time comes and he will be devoured completely, he will be with saran beyond death. all they do, its all mutual, its all consensual, its all tender.

okay um........sorry. i love funny love a lot more than love recipe but i'll get into my reasonings about that.

i feel like it's PARTIALLY cuz i grew up with PFL but that's not exactly a valid reasoning to say it's better than the reboot so YEAH UM. PFL as a whole is just a lot more memorable. even rewatching it as an adult nowadays (for....maybe the millionth time) that shit is still such a fun time. the characters and how expressive they are, humor, certain episode plots theyre just all so good yk? but that doesn't mean it's not flawed. yes, PFL has it's very...questionable moments like i.e the weird stereotyping in some episodes but idk dawg it was the 2000s it's gonna have really ridiculous stuff in it 😭 but yeah overall i love how absolutely chaotic it is. i suppose that's just the pucca franchise as a whole though and i just love pucca's chaotic nature.

alright Love Recipe's turn. okay so i love love recipe, i really do but just really for (i know everyone and their brother has said this also) IT'S REALLY FOR THE PUCCAGARU MOMENTS LMAO. other than that everything else in the show was....meh. don't get me wrong, it's a very sweet reboot (with a banging ending theme. seriously, it slaps so hard i listen to it from time to time) but i have my gripes with it. for one, the humor is very. uh. haha. istg there's more fart/poop jokes than i can count and it is SO strange. besides that, the humor otherwise is like...i mean it's fine i guess. it's very obvious that uh unlike funny love, love recipe is blatantly directed towards a much more younger audience. anyways, characters. yeah i got so disappointed...sorrryyyyy. i don't like how they wrote most of them, majority of their personalities got butchered and became not very memorable. ring ring especially...😭 she's one of the best characters in funny love imo (which is so ironic cuz im pretty sure as a child i used to not like her LMAOOOO) and they completely stripped her of her personality in the reboot. i don't like how they made her so obsessive over garu like THAT'S NOT HER CHARACTER. i know a lot of people tend to misinterpret her motives in funny love and...love recipe made it worse BUT originally the times she would try to "win garu over" was solely to make pucca jealous cuz she wants to be better than her. that's all. PLR takes that to a whole 'nother level and i personally don't like it....but i don't completely hate ring ring in the reboot, she can be silly at times and i like her interactions with pucca. but yeah other than that all the characters' personalities are like....so flat. even the newer characters like the villains and stuff. im so sorry but the villains are so forgettable IT HURTS. like even tobe. the poor guy is so lame now. i like Edward though (scissors dude) he's cool! Ayo(/Eiyo whatever you wanna call him) is a good character as well i like that little guy and his dynamic with ring ring is so funny. oh yeah i don't like how they completely rid some of the characters from funny love either. vagabonds.....destiny....muji etc.

anyway er my bad i feel like all i brought up were negative points 😭. reassuring that i don't hate love recipe i just got a few problems with it. I HAVE been rewatching it for the first time in....i don't remember how long but my opinions didn't change. LIKE I SAID...IT'S STILL A SWEET AND CHARMING LITTLE SHOW. it has a LOT of cute moments between garu and pucca. some of the shots/backgrounds in the show are also so pretty and cozy. i like garu's house upgrade for instance. i know that's such a pointless comment to make but idk i'm a sucker for woodsy and cottagey looking environments like that and i think it fits him. i do like the introduction to the newer characters. like i thought giving ring ring a family member is pretty cool. LIKE YEAH! MILD CHARACTER LORE! BUT i think said new characters could've been written a little better. my favourite episodes has the be the finale where they have a cooking competition with dong king. i really liked what they did with garu's character, the ending had me squealing everytime i watched it. like look guys hes blushing at pucca hehehehe. genuinely i think that was the most i've seen that guy expressive throughout the entirety of PLR.

ALRIGHT....so i'm gonna get into the ahem. puccagaru comparison of the two shows. i know everyone will agree that love recipe's version of pucca and garu's relationship is so much better than funny love's and i don't disagree. they have more tender moments in the reboot and it makes my heart melt 😭 like it's way more obvious that garu likes her and all that jazz. i know for funny love, their relationship is so chaotic and all over the place that people will take it the wrong way like nooooo garu doesn't like her. honestly...PFL's interpretation of them is just funny asf. BUT ALSO they DO have moments in PFL where theyre shown to like eachother. granted, it's a little rarer than in PLR but it's literally in your face in most episodes. or if you're as mentally ill as i am you'd go out of your way to look for little instances of garu smiling at pucca (i'm looking at you, Up from the Depths.) or doesn't even mind when she's giving him the kissy wissies all over. etc. but yeah...you can see that he blatantly cares about her like in Slam Bam Birthday Bash or He Loves Me Not.

I also really like Garu's slight change in personality in love recipe. he's just a lot more chill but honestly i like both versions of garu, PFL and PLR HE'S SO UNHINGED SOMETIMES IN FUNNY LOVE AND IT'S FUNNY. pucca too. i absolutely adore her in funny love but i do appreciate the fact that they toned her ""obsessiveness"" down a bit in love recipe. i think the combination between that and garu's more chill personality makes for a more relaxed feeling in their dynamic??? if that makes any sense.

final thoughts....okay this isn't even a final thought cuz i literally said this at the beginning but yeah i like funny love better but love recipe also has a special place in my heart. i think both shows are charming in their own way.

i know the shorts weren't asked about but i think those are at the top of my list when it comes to puccagaru sorry theyre just so silly and cute in those and i love how theyre just the main focus the entire time

was rereading some of your posts for everyone bleeds red and GOD i am so invested in the potential of tanjirou and nezukos dynamic with ume and gyutaro, especially since gyutaros going to be on the mugan train at the same time as those two which means umes definitely gonna come out to help fight the two different kizuki and god the reaction and potential resentment of nezuko seeing the corps allow a full fledged demon to live even if its as a tool of the corps is gonna HURT. (and potentially lead to more internalized guilt because they werent going to kill her family until she rebeled against the corps. maybe theyd have let them all live if she just laid down and died like a good demon.) and tanjirou seeing a demon who presumably doesn't eat humans which given his reluctance and dislike of killing humans is definitely gonna strike some kind of cord in him beyond just the relating and wanting to help them immediately. also VERY interested in how the various demons will respond to ume, will they respond to her with the same 'filthy traitor' perception that the canon demons responded to nezuko with? i can imagine like all of them being pissed off at how shes muzzled and kept hidden away in a box for her 'protection' by her older sibling, unable to truly make her own decisions. (and won't that strike a cord with tanjirou and his own relationship with nezuko rn) and makomo, kyojurou or nezuko are definitely going to tell tamayo about ume and that begs the question, if tamayo knew about the traitor demon who hasnt eaten a single human, and didn't tell anyone, and how that'll rock the relationships around her. or if she didn't know about ume, what she's going do now that she does know about the full fledged demon girl (who she didn't know about being turned in the first place, so shes definitely one of kagayas demons) being used as a weapon for the corps. also in tanjirous eventual seeking out gyutaro to try and help him potentially revealing that gyutaro is doumas student, and if tamayo or any of the other kizuki caught wind of this and connected the dots, essentially paint a target on gyutaros back as the first lead on kanaes killer they've found in years. (and if douma has the same 'if ume eats someone i'll commit seppuku' rule for bringing her into the corps that giyuu had, which even if he does the likelihood of follow through on enforcing that isnt high but if its at least there for appearances, could lead to shinobu (or one of the other kizuki) trying to get ume to finally eat someone because its working towards finally getting to do something to hurt kanaes killer. and its doing the poor girl a favor, getting her out of the hands of the corps and finally giving her a proper meal after being starved for so long (potential mitsuri kinship) itd be a win win for everyone involved, really) and GODD im obsessed YOUR AU IS SO INTERESTING AND I CANT WAIT TO SEE WHAT MORE YOU DO WITH ITT. sorry if this ask is rambely or too much or any of the questions are too spoilery for you to answer (which is 100% understandable) your writings are just so INTERESTING they make me shake with excitement

Hehe don't ever apologize for this kinda thing I looooove it!! (Sorry it took me a bit to answer, it's been a busy couple of days). Also, as a general rule of thumb, I'm more than happy to spoil things lol There are very few events in a couple fics that I fully intend to keep entirely hidden until those scenes happen, but for the most part, I'll spoil anything lol I love talking and also I personally enjoy spoilers for things haha So yeah! I'll do my best to answer!!

Fun little thing about the roleswap, it was a project I originally started for two reasons. The first being character studies for the Hashira (which was what all their backstory pieces were initially about, and you can definitely still see that influence in a lot of them). The second was to examine the parallels between Tanjiro and Nezuko and Gyutaro and Daki. It just... spiraled horrendously.....

That's to say that I'm also ecstatic for them to start interacting

Their first interactions are actually before the mugen train incident! They initially meet on Mt. Natagumo during that conflict. They're very brief encounters, but that is what makes them aware of each other's existence. Mt. Natagumo is an extremely messy conflict between a group of slayers, a group of demons not truly affiliated with Tamayo, and then Nezuko and co. During that meeting, they don't really process a lot about each other. Rui actually holds most of the Kamados' attention here, but they take note of Gyutaro and Ume

It's during the mugen train when they genuinely start to realize things about each other.

Nezuko still largely ignores them. She's too focused on Akaza and the fact that he is gunning for Makomo's head (and he very, very nearly succeeds). Tanjiro is the one who really zones in on Gyutaro, and starts to process the implications of him having a demonic sister and working for the Corps. It's mostly just.... immediate projection on his part. He comes to all these conclusions about them being forced to work for the Corps like his family was, but there's also those complicated emotions regarding the fact that Ume clearly isn't... eating people. There's a demon out there that isn't eat people. Yes, she's muzzled, the situation can't exactly be good. But... it's possible. And Nezuko has adamantly refused to even consider ceasing the cannibalism.

Once Nezuko does actually process the existence of Ume after the chaos of the mugen train (yk, Akaza almost killing Makomo, Kyojuro almost kill Akaza, Akaza learning she's a demon and freaking the fuck out), like you predicted. She is.... hurt, but mostly enraged. After her partial transformation during the Final Selection, as soon as the Corps finds her struggling through the wisteria, they immediately decided she needed to die. It was never considered that she could still work for them, still deserve to live. Why did she immediately get written off while Ume was allowed this? If it had been allowed, her family would still be alive. Tanjiro never would have had to train to become a slayer. What was so bad about her? Well, unluckily for Nezuko, she had no Hashira to argue for her like Gyutaro and Ume did (because Akaza doesn't count and also didn't know), and she was written off as a lost cause because of how... volatile she was.

As far as her feelings on Ume herself, she mostly just... pities her. Because while Nezuko is angry she was never given a chance and a choice, she is glad it never happened because she's happier with the Kizuki and is reveling in her hatred of the Corps. She pities both Ume and Gyutaro, but in a really... condescending way. The fact that they lowered themselves to groveling to the Corps, Ume starving herself and allowing herself to be muzzled... it's pathetic! (No one ask her if her anger is a front for anything else, why would it be?)

This ultimately leads to Tanjiro projecting heavily on them, desperately trying to "save" them to prevent another family tragedy, while Nezuko resolutely ignores them and the path they represent.

As far as the Kizuki as a whole, it varies. Most of them are disgusted about the muzzling, but don't think too deeply about her. She represents the direction that the Corps is trying to go with tamed demons, but they were already aware that was happening. Nezuko and Zenitsu have already proven that. She's just the first... genuine success. A sobering thought, but not the worst thing the Corps has ever done. It's difficult for most Kizuki to hate them anymore than they already do. But admittedly, the Kizuki who have siblings are a bit more sympathetic to them... Kyojuro, Shinobu, and Sanemi especially have some really complicated feelings, though they keep it to themselves for the most part

As soon as Tamayo is told about Ume, she almost immediately figures out that she must be a demon of Kagaya's. She can't find any proof of Ume's existence within the (frankly massive) hive mind, not even an old broken link. That raises a lot of questions.... because one thing about Kagaya was that he did not want to turn more demons. So why has he suddenly turned one now? Why is she with the Corps? There had to be a point, but what?

It's due to this that Tamayo encourages Tanjiro to try and connect with Gyutaro and Ume. She frames it as being supportive of him and sympathetic to their situation, but really she just wants more information on them, and Tanjiro seems like the person most likely to get through to them

Ultimately if Gyutaro and Ume fled the Corps, they'd be welcomed with open arms. Many Kizuki know the feeling of trying to get out of the Corps and how difficult that can be and all the complicated feelings that go along with it. It's just that, Gyutaro especially, is vehemently against any type of help and distrusts it and hates it and is angry and spiteful and and and—

Which.... causes issues for him and Ume.

But Ume is viewed much more sympathetically by everyone. She seems to have no autonomy, she's starving, she's very young, it's easy for many of the Kizuki to want to help her, especially the members that have big soft spots for kids

As far as Gyutaro technically being Douma's tsuguko, it is eventually found out (via Akaza lol good job for revealing that one buddy). Certain demons want to use that somehow (I'm sure you can imagine who...). But it's also been realized that Gyutaro is like. never with Douma (his saving grace, I can't lie). But that's just another motivator for trying to convince them to turn traitor. Then they'll turn on Douma and potentially reveal information on him, mostly places he can be found

The fact that Douma is currently public enemy number one for the Kizuki is something he is entirely unaware of, btw. But also lucky for him, he's not expected to commit seppuku if Ume snaps. He has no real emotionally attachment to them, this is an experiment for the Corps, if it fails, it fails, and they'll kill Ume and Gyutaro. Douma gets off with no consequences

I am so glad you asked because I do actually have a lot for that! Haha (:

Firstly I do draw him both pre-transition/top surgery quite a lot honestly since I find a lot of comfort in drawing him with similar traits to me as a transmasc myself ^_^ but I also very much enjoy dabbling with his post-op scars and stuff as well! In general I like to have a timeline for things so usually if I draw him pre or post op it just depends on where in the timeline I think the drawing is taking place 👍🏻 a lot of the time I draw him binding with wraps and things like that since I think he would but if not it’s usually because I’m drawing him in a more relaxed environment where he can have some space to decompress (binding is taxing from personal experience) I don’t see him starting to really start goals towards transitioning till he has joined the Golden Dawn where he has a better/safer environment to do that in and can come out to people at his own pace when/if he feels comfortable to. (Personally think William would be the first to know just because he is the captain and he isn’t exactly straight so he gets it I think) ^_^

Secondly!! I did play around with the idea since I kind of like to stay in a sort of period accurate headcanon but it’s fantasy so it doesn’t really matter too much to me lol but because of that I thought it would be cool to have like a magic top surgery operation haha it’s kind of what makes the most sense to me if it was like some sort of altering or transformation magic to substitute for a medical operation (to be honest I love black clover but sometimes the magic doesn’t make sense to me so I’m just making shit up) and I kind of made a design that resembled the symbols that he had when everyone was possessed by the elves in the elf reincarnation arc but I’m not completely satisfied with the design so I’ll more and likely change it later so for now he just has regular looking top scars like in my usual drawings

Thirdly! I am honestly as obsessed with William and Alecdora’s relationship as he is with William lol there’s something about someone wanting to devote their entire being to someone like that that makes me insane!! When Alecdora dropped that line where he was saying William looked like a deity to him I knew it was over for me and I fixated so terribly bad on them. Obviously their relationship wouldn’t be the most healthy thing and I don’t condone this kind of behavior irl but it’s sooo fun to think about in fiction. I guess their dynamic reminds me a lot of like a knight who is unwaveringly dedicated to serving their ruler, y’know? And Alecdora is endlessly devoted to William. I really like the one-sided aspect of their relationship because I’m a giant sucker for characters who yearn and yearn hard for someone without ever fully having had their feelings reciprocated back but still being very devoted to them regardless. But I also very much enjoy the scenario where William is reciprocative to Alecdora’s feelings and I think in that situation it could be a lot easier for them to figure out how to set healthy relationship boundaries with one another since there is more chances for communication that way ^_^ 👍🏻 so yeah!! Big fan of both yearning one sided Alecdora and full fledged relationship William/Alecdora.

Lastly! I honestly think when he’s by himself he just kind of sleeps curled up like you said or hugging a pillow or something but when he’s with William I think he likes to hug him while he sleeps 👍🏻 honestly if he lived in a time period like 2025 I know his ass would have a body pillow and weighted blanket he needs that kind of grounding.

I’m SOOO glad you feel like everyone is in character. 😭❤️❤️ I worried about that a LOT. Especially for Anakin and the clones. There’s just a certain way about them that you have to get right, or they become 2-dimensional if you don’t write their little quirks and ticks. And I LOVE getting to explore the clones’s and Mel’s sibling-like relationship. 😭 I based most of their personalities on how they act around Mel off my annoying brother (affectionate 😌💕😂). I’m also so happy you feel the Jedi are also in character as well, and that it feels like a comfort to read them, like you’re learning about them along with Mel. 🥺💕 That was actually a lot of the idea with this fic (besides me living vicariously through Mel to romance Anakin, of course 👀😂❤️) over how I would slowly write scenes to SHOW the audience the misconception about the Jedi/their culture/certain characters. I didn’t want to PREACH to them. I wanted to present them with the evidence that maybe the Jedi aren’t “repressive” and “emotionless 🙄🤢” as they might’ve been led to believe by a big chunk of the fandom’s harsh perception. It would be like it was happening in time with Anakin as his thoughts change into something better and less self centered.

And I HAVE actually received a comment on Wattpad from a reader that my fic helped change their minds about Mace and the Council! 🥰🥰❤️ And it was just… such a joy to hear. 😭❤️ That’s the idea with this fic. I hope to reach across the aisle towards EVERYONE—maybe anti Jedi fans will read my work and have their minds changed about their culture. Maybe someone who despises Anakin to the bone will read my fic on a whim and slowly grow to care about him/see the humanity underneath the surface, just like Mel has. And maybe by the END of this fic… I’ll have convinced some people that the Jedi are not at fault for their own genocide by “failing” Anakin—because the truth is that it was HIS choice. Maybe by the end of this fic, there’ll be fans who’ll read the work and grow to see that you can love a character while still criticizing them/knowing they’re in the wrong (ie; Anakin 😔💔), while ALSO still acknowledging that he went through such horrible trauma as a kid while a slave on Tatooine… but it still DOESN’T absolve him or give him the right to hurt others just because he’s hurting himself.

That’s what this fic is all about, after all. GENUINE growth and change. Not placating a man by changing a few moments that he won’t have to go through in the timeline that will suddenly make him all ��warm and fuzzy inside” and see the light. TRUE redemption and change means that Anakin will have to grow and ADMIT he was wrong while not becoming defensive when his actions (*cough* the Tuskens *cough*) are brought to light. Essentially, I’m trying to “Zuko-ify” him. (Loool, I know. Pretty high hopes for myself there. 😭😂❤️)

I’m also soooo happy you love and relate to Melanie so much. 🥹❤️❤️ Almost all readers have told me similar things, and it’s so wonderful to know that I’ve made a character that has been accepted by a small portion of the “SW/Anakin fandom”. 😆😁💕❤️ Mel came about when I was one day reading over an isekai story and just… not being able to fully immerse myself, because the OC’s reactions just didn’t seem realistic to me. 😭 And so I remember sitting down and imagining how I would react in such a situation (immediate freak out/think I was dreaming/would run in terror from Anakin’s hot ass at every opportunity 😌❤️‍🔥😂), and then that’s how Melanie Bains came into being! Haha. ❤️😁

So, while Mel IS somewhat of a stand-in for the audience (it IS an isekai fic after all 😭🤷‍♀️), it was still very important to me to make her three dimensional and—while yes, very relatable—also make sure she became her own character who could grow into herself. So a hero’s journey was important, along with giving Mel an antagonist (The Shopkeeper) separate from Anakin’s antagonist (Palpatine), because it was SOOOO important to have Mel have her own character arc/story AWAY from Anakin. It was important that Anakin wasn’t ALL she was about. Mel has friends (Ahsoka/the clones), she has her own plan she’s dealing with to try and save the galaxy while barely giving Anakin a second thought besides terror at first, and most importantly—Melanie is NOT begging Anakin to change. That was soooo important to me. She doesn’t have TIME to beg him to change. There’s too much at stake already, and if Anakin changed FOR Mel, it’s not even true change in the first place. Instead, as you’ve probably guessed from my latest chapter, Mel is INSPIRING him to change himself, because of the qualities about her he is coming to admire which in turn makes him take a look at his own selfish actions. This is always where I think “bad boy/I can fix him” writers get things lost in translation. It’s not true redemption if they change FOR the girl, because—as the Marvel movie Shang-Chi has recently shown us 🥶—if the girl ever dies… then the “bad boy/villain” goes right back to being evil. 😭🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️ What REAL redemption would be is meeting someone you grow to love who INSPIRES you to become a better version of yourself—not FOR them—but because you want to become someone like them. You want to stand by their side in the light and feel proud.

Anyway, I feel like I’ve ranted a lot. 😭😂❤️ But I just wanted to thank you soooo much again for your beautiful words that were so kind and truly brought a ray of light to my dreary days! 😭😭❤️❤️❤️ I only hope my long response time doesn’t discourage you from writing me messages in the future. 😅😓😭🫠 I’m so sorry again for the long wait.

I have been a long time reader of Orphic and I just seen you updated the sequel almost 11 months ago! I just started rereading and now as an adult I have a few new Headcanons that I wanted to say! I love you and I will be in touch for the upcoming updates ❤️

-If light never got the Death Note, him and the reader would have gotten together in a normal way. I think there was a natural magnetism they stare together and chemistry that works for them as teens and young adults. Like why was the first person the reader used to cover herself was light or why light almost immediately makes her an accomplice to scheme. Maybe in a different world they would have been a normal couple and not Yandere control trip that Death note light their in now.

-talking about teenage years, Light has always had a crush on reader. A smart, snarky, and independent girl who didn’t worry about hurting his feelings. There is no way he didn’t crush on her even if he wasn’t aware of it. Like the reader is a foil for Misa in every way, maybe why his obsession got more twisted while she was away. Distance makes the heart grow fonder.

-with that being said, I believe light has always seen reader as his queen of this new world he wants to create. Like with every other girl, he just knew he didn’t want them like he wanted reader. At some level, he as some kind of respect for her intelligence for figuring him out but also just kind of lusted after her in a way. Because why didn’t he just kill her when he had so many chances to kill or always kept her in the loop of his plans before L died, he just needed her to be a sound board without any real opinion. He sees her like Hera to his Zeus, she is a lesser god but it doesn’t make her less of a god to others. Well, the others thought he seen them as equal gods, the reader never gave Light the benefit of the doubt of thinking he thought she was an equal.

-At some level, the reader is lowkey into him being a killer tbh

-I think Light does love reader at some level even if it’s narassitic and self rewarding. Like when reader isn’t looking or is asleep, he watches over her like 🥺 because she never betrayed him or let it slip that he was Kira to anyone important. Light seems to love the loyalty and the “devotion” the reader gives without trying

will get to continuing the sequel once i graduate (my last degree ever) and have the time to for sure, but i think there's a lot to speculate on the reader/light dynamic and whether they actually love each other and their own kind of perspective and definition of love, and i tried to encapture its complexity (best i could when i was 17-18 years old haha) now that im so old and wise hopefully when i resume working on the sequel (which isn't planned to be as long as the OG) i can use my developed cerebral cortex to better show it. I think OFC she's lowkey into it - bc i think in light of the death he's caused there's just no logical way fear on its own keeps her with the killer of her brother and father. at that point, you lose so much, just fucking report him?? but no. another tough thing to juggle is light's relationships with others and how to capture someone in a relationship w/ someone when in the original IP he simply uses love and sex as another tool. But at the same time i think a huge draw to his char, reader and his relationship, and their whole dynamic is the ambiguity. unlike in the show, we can't get a read into his head (and lord knows reader is unreliable as they come) so we just have to be like . . . "light what was that . . . " Thanks for sending this in, taking time to write it all out, and reading the work i put into this world. i hope one day to be back to writing, as it sparks a joy in me that hasn't been filled since college.

Just wanted to say im absolutely obsessed with 'Once bitten...'!!! I'd been putting off reading it because i just couldn't wrap my head around the concept of this particular role reversal but now that ive read it - you not only managed to Make It Work. You made it work so well that adjusting my thoughts back to the original dynamic just feels Wrong lol You've seriously rewired my brain with that one!

And i adore your writing style, the Vox POV is so entertaining i'd gladly read 100k words about nothing but paint drying or grass growing if it was him narrating it.

This is such a great compliment, hahaha - man, I'm really glad that people are still reading and enjoying Once Bitten! I occasionally feel bad that I didn't finish it before residency started because I knew that the start of residency would slow my updates down so much. BUT, I'm excited to get back to it, hopefully another chapter in January when I'm on a rotation with normal humane working hours!

A lot of the appeal of AUs and role reversals for me is specifically in the drawing of parallels to canon roles, relationships, and vibes. It doesn't really work for me if the characters and their dynamics don't reflect key parts of what we find familiar about them, even in a completely different setting - so I'm really happy that I made it make sense for you even with a total role reversal!

Do u have any favourite artists or inspirations/influences?!??? gorgeous art aaa

i have a ton of people and things that inspire my art! honestly too many to list if im being honest. i can give a few highlights though!

a lot of my style obviously comes from the series i’ve been drawing fanart for…. which is super obvious now cause i just draw yugioh but i think some traces of the things i liked in the past still exist in my art! i used to be a huge dc comic fan and would draw batfam stuff a lot and i think that’s one of the most prominent lingering things just from my like… general composition and how i decide to stylize certain things like text boxes or my use of black for shading sometimes. i also used to draw a lot of danganronpa which i think impacts how i draw eyes the most </3 rip king

for more specific examples, growing up and learning to draw my biggest inspirations were artists like kirvia (which i think you can kinda see traces of in my art especially my older works with how they have those blocky shapes), 02png i ADORE the raw use of colour in their art and they had a huge influence on me in the past, although that’s kinda harder to see now haha, emilyamiao with just the incredible general compositions in their pieces and how dynamic and well drawn their characters are… for ygo specific artists though fushitas is one of my all time biggest inspirations i WISH SO BAD i could draw characters as easily and dynamic as them it KILLS ME. or someone like E_Volution who i want to have my art look like theirs one day 😭 ONE DAY!!!! or Baby999 who i am so obsessed with i saw they liked one of my posts on twitter and i genuinely lost my shit for like an hour. anyway

but tbfh i also just generally get a lot of inspiration to draw from my mutuals since i end up seeing their art the most! like…. emu is deadass solely responsible for me coming back to draw gx because they got into it and i kept on seeing their ygo art on their story or someone like xw who i want to steal their art style so fucking bad bro it’s not even funny i have to contain myself + many many more

my thoughts: IT'S FUNNY, I... I FEEL LIKE I SHOULD FEEL WAY MORE STRONGLY ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF THEIR RELATIONSHIP BEING ROMANTIC THAN I DO? especially considering that "eccentric and traumatized manic pixie nightmare guy obsessed with fulfilling some fictional archetype x his more cynical and worldly friend-slash-colleague who starts out supportive but eventually finds himself way out of his depth" was pretty much the Exact dynamic of the last ship i was invested enough in to call an otp. so far though, any moments they have together don't get much more out of me than "ooh, interesting, i wonder if/how that's gonna come into play later," or "oho, i think my friend who ships barnwally will get a kick out of this," or "aaaghghg fuck.... buddy comedy angst...." i think my thoughts on them right now can be best summarized as ... i am excited for when there is enough About them in canon to finally make me as emotional over them as i am about, like, franklydear or wally and home. but also even if their relationship is never explicitly or even implicitly romantic then i have more than enough reason to believe it will still be just as emotional and rich with Themes. TL;DR: i know they're gonna fuck me up Some day, but that hasn't happened yet.

What makes me happy about them: they genuinely like each other! i feel like with welcome home's whole Thing of its characters' predetermined roles coming into conflict with their reality it'd be really easy to have one of them secretly hate or resent the other from the get-go, but - no, wally trusts barnaby to always have an answer for what he's feeling or experiencing and barnaby is gentler and more upfront with wally than he is with almost any other character (although considering his general personality that may not be saying much HAHA.) it makes it a lot easier to get invested in them and subsequently dread what effect The Horrors will have on their relationship.

What makes me sad about them: so, like. wally probably knows why he and barnaby are friends to begin with, i.e. he probably knows that A Higher Power decided that they should be friends, and so it was done. the possibility that wally can exist beyond what his audience/creator(s) expect of him does not seem to have ever occurred to wally himself. what i'm getting at here, is that. wally may genuinely like being friends with barnaby, yes. but liking something because you chose to seek it out and liking something because you are under the impression that you will somehow cease to exist without it are Two Very Different Things, and the latter is. very dangerous for any kind of relationship. and, fuck, barnaby - if i was barnaby and i found out that that was how my best friend (who i may or may not be in love with) saw our friendship the whole time - if i found out that was the truth and i never noticed it? i would never be able to forgive myself. even if that friend ended up doing things that hurt me or other people or themselves and i was rightly upset with them for that, there would always be that little voice in the back of my head telling me that if i had just looked closer for two seconds i could have fixed it. i could have helped him. i could have shown him i was a real friend.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: i don't seek out WH fic all that often, but i remember when it first became a thing a lot of explicitly romantic barnaby/wally fic made barnaby a little too earnest/mushy for my liking? like yeah, he cares about wally and is gentle with him and everything, but he is also very quick to tease wally and to dress up pretty much everything he says in at least on layer of irony/clowning around. this pooch does NOT have the emotional self-awareness for the things you want him to say!! i also dislike when authors make another character (usually home or. howdy?) like, over-the-top abusive towards wally so barnaby has more incentive to get with him, but i just don't like character assassination/flanderization in general, so.

Things I look for in fanfic: honestly, just, like. more stuff that actually interacts with WH's canon. i feel like a lot of the stuff i see for them is either AU fic or smutty oneshots that don't do a whole lot to incorporate canon elements. which, like, do whatever you want forever, but i'm Starvin' over here.

My kinks: y'know i was gonna be like "teehee, wrong blog! you're not getting that here, silly!" but. i actually have no idea what kinks i would consider Only in the context of wallaby. uhhh. ask for my nsfw blog if you wanna hash that out i guess.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: i'm very curious to see if canon is going to end up making a case for laughingstock. i don't know if it will but i think it would be very funny. as for wally... [looks at his relationship with home] uh. [looks at his relationship with W/the WHRP] umm. [looks at his relationship with the audience] fuck. maybe work on yourself a little bit before thinking about sharing your life with someone again, buddy.

My happily ever after for them: an animated music video set to on melancholy hill by gorillaz. it opens with wally sitting in front of home's burning remains at night, gazing mournfully into its eyes one last time. the only sound we hear is the crackling of the fire. we smash cut to black for a split second before the song begins to play, paired with the visual of wally driving down a long highway at sunset, in what is very clearly a hastily painted over mail truck that used to belong to eddie's post office. after the opening instrumental of the song, the footage alternates between three perspectives: wally traveling to his unknown destination, complete with all the hitchhiking, gas pumping, pit stopping, and otherwise less glamorous parts of road travel; the other neighbors trying to put their lives back together after The Bullshit, in particular following barnaby's melancholic point of view as he visits each one/attends their various get-togethers; and finally, the neighbors Braving The Horrors back in the day to fight for a life that best fits their needs rather than that of their long-dead makers. as the song begins to roll to a close, we see the mail truck pull up to an unfamiliar looking house, with a handful of neighbors hanging out on the porch and barnaby leaving out the front door to grab something. the entire scene takes place at sunset once again, meaning everything in is in silhouette. barnaby stops dead in his tracks when he sees the truck, and the others soon follow his gaze. wally opens the door and steps out, his body language hesitant as he takes one step towards barnaby. barnaby begins to walk towards him. we smash cut to black on the final note of the song. the end.
