The salmon swam in a slow, lazy circle.
It would drift up, close to the shoreline, then turn, and batter once more against the world border. Sand and seagrass would stir in its wake, before settling, and the cycle would begin anew.
Grian could do nothing but watch it.
Wasn’t much else to do.
Up, shoreline, down, border.
It seemed cruel, to let this happen. To watch this salmon swim in its tiny pool of water- trapped in a loop it can’t escape.
It had been just upstream, a few days ago. It had hovered just outside the world border, before slipping inside- seemingly without even realising what it was getting itself into.
Without even realising it had doomed itself, with that one, fatal mistake.
The salmon suddenly switched, changed its path, and started looping in the opposite direction.
Down, border, up, shoreline.
Maybe it’s lonely. It’s been stuck in that section of the pool for a while, after all. Alone.
Maybe it’s hungry. Grian can’t imagine there’s much in the way of food down there. Yesterday, he gave it some bread crumbs. He only has two loaves left, now- acacia biomes never had the best land for farming.
Maybe it’s scared of Grian. He had been watching it for a good few hours today. He would be scared, too, in its place. Confused. Bewildered. Overwhelmed. Panicked.
Because it was so free, just a couple days ago. It could swim as far as it wanted up and down the riverbank, with all of its fishy friends. Now it was trapped. Alone.
Naïve little fish.
Has it even realised that its freedom is gone? That now it’s stuck here- forever powerless, under the scrutiny of a creature that won’t give it pity?
Has it even realised that despite all of its suffering, it will never gain anything?
Grian does not bother naming the salmon. In a few days, he will run out of bread, and the wheat will not have grown.
The salmon will be cooked crudely in a furnace, with sticks used as fuel- and Grian will ration its remains until the next crop harvest.
Then he’ll ration those crops until the next poor victim wanders in.
And then the cycle will begin anew.

uhh same anon as the one that sent in that other snippet (minecraft soundtrack headcanon). assuming i actually remembered to send in the other one.
i dont know?? what i ate?? to write this?? like am i cooking or is it just almost 1am and i need to Go To Bed.
in my mind the parrallels and forshadowing and implications are all on a corkboard being tied together with red string. the dots, ive connected them. its been salmon all along
Tumblr media
THIS HITS ANON I TRULY LOVE THESE SNIPPETS.... insanely flattered to be receiving them for hunger au 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 it really is all about those repeating cycles, huh. Smth smth the cycle of not only violence but also loneliness and isolation. And theres something so haunting about the idea that his hunger started even before he became a Watcher

Life updates from mid august:
Heatwave finally broke and now it's just normal hot instead of whatever circle of hell melts you to the pavement no matter how many fans you use
As a result of aforementioned heat wave I started carrying a folding fan with me and hoo boy am I a happier person when I have the ability to cool myself down
Kesha's new song Joyride fucks SO hard ive had it on repeat all day and I finally figured out that the chorus part reminds me of the R!TGO soundtrack
In the wake of all the articles about toxins found in tampons I finally bit the bullet and tried a menstrual cup and YALL I am never going back & I can't stop trying to take as many friends with me as I can
Fingers crossed I get home early enough this weekend to FINALLY do the reset clean of my room ive been procrastinating for 3 weeks because my brain desperately needs a living environment where I can see the floor and find clothes
I'm coming up on two years at my job and it'll officially be the longest I've ever worked anywhere. I still really love it, and I'm glad I left a terrible situation at my last job and found this <3
I've been trying to find things to love about every season so I don't spend all my time wishing whatever season it is would hurry up and be over, it feels like wishing my life away in 3 month cycles. This summer I've been avoiding a heat-induced depression spiral by appreciating how green and alive everything is and how much one of my dogs loves the warm weather (the other one is in my camp of strongly preferring cold).
Its a work in progress, but it's been nice to focus on how alive everything smells instead of focusing on how it's so humid that inhaling feels like being force-fed chowder.
I got new scrubs and I really love them :)

Welcome Back. 🥳
If you have to list most fave songs within album. How would each of the song rank in your list?
Thank you.
Hi @misslauwie! I assume you're asking about Face. If not, then so be it because that's what I'll be talking about 😄
I'll make this brief and not an in-depth analysis. I actually avoided Face for a while after its release. I did listen to all the songs immediately and as a first impression, I liked everything, but I took a step back. It's difficult to explain because I myself don't know exactly what was so odd. It felt like I'm listening to the music made by a stranger, but then again isn't a good thing when an artist reveals a new side of themselves through creative means? So why the cognitive dissonance? Well, one answer would be because all of us have this image in our head of that person. And while there is a general consensus, some things we perceive or make up in our heads will differ because we project onto them. And it happens often and really easy when we're focusing on that artist every single day. I find that it's a bit too much, at least from me. It was difficult to be able to fully understand, appreciate or even critique the music without some distance. Which is what I did and a couple of months later I decided that I can and want to listen to Face casually.
And I'll tell you what transpired. Like Crazy the English version is the only song from the album that I have added to a spotify playlist that I listen to everyday at work when I'm writing/editing. It's right there in between an IVE song and Kylie's Padam Padam. It's such a damn good song. From the musical arrangement, the lyrics (emotions on ice, let me have a taste???? Damn, I'd have that tattooed somewhere), the way Jimin sings. The entire production is top notch. I want to listen to it on a vinyl record at a party in an apartment at 2 am in the morning kind of vibe. An 80s throwback, but it also has that contemporary aspect to it. It's a type of song that fits well with the trends in the last couple of years, but impressive enough to stand out. If it had radio play, it would have become a hit with the gp. Like Crazy is that song that could have been BIG if only it got the means to it.
Second it would be Letter, but not for some deep reasons or whatever hidden meaning behind it. A lot of the times when I listen to music, I don't think about some back story. I doesn't mean I don't think about the meaning of the lyrics, but maybe I just like the melody and the voice. Letter initially made me think of a Studio Ghibli movie, something about adolescence and young adulthood in the summer. It would be perfect for a soundtrack. And now I also associate the song with that period in my life in March because who was on a 3h train ride running away from town because life is shitty and had Letter on repeat the entire time while crying and wearing sunglasses so the other people on the chairs nearby wouldn't see? Yep, that's Letter for me.
Coming in third, Set Me Free Pt. 2. No need to go into detail, I've written about it when it was released. But I don't listen to it anymore and I'm still not a fan of the rap part despite understanding the creative reason behind it.
Alone and Face-Off. Both good songs, but I don't think about them. For no particular reason, it's just that I'm not in the mood to have them casually in a playlist. But if from time to time I choose to listen to Face entirely (usually on a train ride), I don't skip them. I do the album entirely, beginning to an end (and skip Interlude: Dive).

Hipping and Hopping: I Was Raised By Hip-Hop
Today is a vitally important day for me in many ways. I am playing tonight as a launch party for my first track being released in collaboration with my friend, Ranj Kaler. It’s his EP and I played a part on the title track, Break The Chains. The pivotal link between another huge importance of today is that the sample I used in the track would not have come to use, were it not for the big birthday entity, Hip-Hop - which has turned fifty today.
So, what you read is not a test, I’m celebrating this feat.
I remember vividly the first time I was really exposed to the deeper side of Hip-Hop and the irony of it all. I would have been 12, with my more youthfully liberated friend Ceri owning an Ice-T cassette. Now, as a highly impressionable and sheltered kid - this was vastly different to Walk This Way and My Adidas, which would have been the only other tracks of the genre in my hearing experience. But while Ice-T and so many rappers of that generation were so scalded for their lyrics - the whole package was something I got hooked upon immediately.
And once one can was opened, I wanted to try all flavours of this new and edgy style of sound. After all, all I ever heard at home was a mixture of the Rocky IV soundtrack on repeat, ABBA, plus the fresher angle hip-hop’s sampling and verse. There was more to life than small town vanilla 2.4 family existence – there was a bigger world out there. Yet the South Bronx and the five boroughs which gave birth and rise to Hip-Hop may have been Mars in comparison with Llanelli in South Wales.
Tumblr media
It opened my eyes to DJs and the whole relationship between them and MCs. Although in those days, the MC was always the more revered, my path to turntablism had already begun years earlier, as I had quite a record collection - my grandmother used to give me 7” singles, donated from the DJ at the local RAFA club. There was no Sugarhill Gang, nor Afrika Bambaataa - clearly South-West Wales wasn’t ready for that in the early eighties. But The Jam, Madness and Blondie were the more reputable of the small-sized vinyl stacked in my bedroom.
By 1989, I was already ordering Hip Hop Connection magazine from the newsagent next to my grandparents’ house, plus my journey into the collectors’ category began by buying 7” releases of Hip-Hop singles. Then, recording tracks from the radio onto tapes via Jeff Young’s Big Beat Show on Radio 1. Yet it was a broadcast on Channel Four that year which scratched the DJ life into me. The annual Technics DJ Competition was broadcasted one night. London’s Cutmaster Swift and his amazing styling, cutting and scratching was one routine I watched over and again in wonder.
youtube
So, by the age of fifteen, I had already been encouraged to think differently about life and music. Already having seen examples of culture - obviously not all positive - in fact learning the way of the sword about slavery and inequality wasn’t something which went over my head – it made me want the world to be very different. Hence the sample used on the track, from an outspoken civil rights activist of the 1960s (you can do the research on this one – wink-wink), which many will recognise – many may not.
“To be a human being, to be respected as a human being, to be given the rights of a man; in this society, on this earth, on this day, which we intend to be which we intend to bring into existence…”
The words following those used in the sample and not used in Break the Chains – are the ones with which this great leader of the people became most synonymous. Public Enemy, one of my idolised bands along with KRS-One from Boogie Down Productions were the ones who made this recognition possible.
Since then – many versions of myself later; I’ve developed and merged my taste through a myriad of ages, of styles and from travelling and relationships; but the gravity of the most influential musical form from my own childhood remains. Alongside the invaluable memories – it took me until 2013 to finally see De La Soul live and until 2014 to see Public Enemy live. Both were done while living in Melbourne. The former saw my copy of Say No Go signed by the band, which is now up on my wall of frames. The latter was a sublime memory of seeing Flavor Flav play the saxophone during the set (many will still not know that he’s a multi-instrumentalist). But the politics, the samples, the effects and legal wrangles; the cutting, the scratching and the controversial law smashing – will always be a big part of my musical armoury.
Tumblr media
Thank you Hip-Hop and a happy birthday to everyone in the community.
Peace, love, unity and having fun is what Afrika Bambaataa and James Brown sang about in 1985. We need it now as much ever.

Loosemble one of a kind album review☆
1. Intro (A butterfly's signal) 🦋
4/10
It was cute. It's just a revamp version of searching for their friends. The train sound reminds me of flip that.
2. Girls night 🌙
9/10
It's my favorite song of the album. It's great with keeping up with the fast pace. It doesn't let up until the bridge. My complaints to why it's not a 10/10 was the "nanananna" and some parts needed more vocal stacks or vocal layering. It felt flat at some parts. They are still learning on how to a make song so I won't critize too much, it was good for a comeback and it was a song hyeju wrote. She is still trying to learn her style I bet.
3. Moonlight 🌕
7/10
I never doubted yeojin. My favorite song of their first album was colouring. I loved her parts of the songs. It was a great song after girls' night to slow down the pace. Again, the part where their vocals were stripped, it fell flat and sounded like there were mixing problems. It needed something else to make it full.
4. Boomerang 🪃
6/10
I didn't think I would like this song, mind you i don't like so what, hide&seek and oops. But it wasn't bad from what I heard from the highlight medley. I'm just bored of hearing these instrumentals being used, the hard base that carries the song. Yeojins sassy verse at 0:26 sold me and hyunjins vocals. Its kind of like baddie from Ive as well. But it's a fun song.
5. He said I said 💖
4/10
It's an okay song. After boomerang the album fell flat to me... it's not my type of song. I tried to like it but felt nothing in the first half of the song. The album does that, though the end of the song is where it gets a bit better. Maybe the high notes that hyunjin does that wins me over or the added vocals.
6. Truman show 💌
4/10
Again, it's not my type of song and this is just a slower version of he said I said. But more of an Ost soundtrack. Or a Disney soundtrack 🫤. It's alright, was hoping a faster upbeat song since girls night was the title track. I don't like the vibe too since it's trying to be emotional but their emotions in their voice are not connecting to the lyrics..
7. Starlight 🍓
5/10
This is just a mixture of he said I said and Truman show. The guitar, the cachy repeated words, and sentimental feelings mixed into one song. I was hoping they would mix things up but have the same sort of songs like girls night or moonlight but slowed down and the end didn't match with the three beginning songs...I don't mind these songs but I didn't like pale blue dot, universe, day by day and playback. They all have the same vibe to me and it's slow and boring. The vocals don't have the emotions they should have for a sentimental song. Like chuu's howl and wendy's when this rain stops is a good example of sentimental or heartfelt songs that show case good emotions. Also I'm not saying it didn't it needed more of it. Again it was falling short. Only part I like was the "every now and then yeah"
This is how I felt about the album it would be like if loosembles first comeback had a repackage and if you play day by day and reverse one of a kind album songs it would loop pretty good, kind of like loona's butterfly album repackaged. I'll give it a solid 6/10 overall. Boomerang should be showcased, I think, cause it's the only other song that sounds like a title track. But we know it won't happen. Other than that I hope they do hip-hop next like what hyeju wanted...or like the fx rum pum pum pum ☆

@butterfly-mochi Rewrote this freaking thing thrice because it keeps getting deleted wth tumblr agjvahkfajkvk- I enjoyed writing it a lot tho and since I’m too weak to the characters I ended up writing for all of them (except for Sucrose, im sorry bb huhu, I ran out of brain power). This is my first time writing for so many of them in one go so please excuse me for any mistakes or blandness ywy thank you for letting me write for my baby Ganyu too hhhhh
Universe Reversal 2
Genshin Impact Character Reader and Modern Players with Zhongli, Childe & Ganyu (how they simp for you) (event masterlist / Part 1 / Part 3)
Tumblr media
Zhongli the F2P
Tumblr media
The most relatable out of the bunch because this man is still broke and can only rely on the primogems he can farm. And he had a LOT. The one thing he doesn’t have a lot on, however, is his luck.
So how did he manage to pull you?: Well after exhausting all his primogem on your banner with nothing but weapons and other characters, he has lost his resolve. But by some weird luck, there was a character bug that was fixed and in his email was the almighty consolation primogem. Enough for ONE pull. And by the Gods he FINALLY got you.
He’d nonchalantly post his screenshot of pulling you using a single acquaint fate in his friend group without any words and everyone else just loses their shit. “You got them in one pull?!” “Yeah” A riot.
This was partnered with the fact that not only is Zhongli an F2P player, but also barely has any five star characters.
He looks calm and apathetic over the news, but behind the screen he’s exhausted and relieved, silently livid.
He has no primogems left to squeeze for a constellation so you’re instead pampered with the best weapon suitable for you (because that’s all he keeps getting).
Zhongles spends most of his time farming for materials to quickly level you up, unlocking all your stories and voiceline, but he fucked up on your build (his artifacts are messy).
He follows communities, forums and videos regarding your character to know all the things he needs to perfect your build. You can barely make a dent against normal mobs, so he knew he was doing something VERY wrong.
Is the type of person to keep refreshing the page for new content, very updated.
Ask him a question about your character and he’s gonna bring you the word vomit that is his research. He’s not gonna stop- probably accidentally developed a copypasta for you.
Also follows your VA in both Tiktok and Twitter to indulge in every bit of content. He also has that screenshot of his pull saved and locked.
On his birthday, a friend of his gifted him a chibi plushie of you and he has treasured it ever since, treating and handling it like its a figurine.
“It is merely pure luck and grace from the gacha gods that I got this character, and I will make sure that they know I am very grateful for this fortune.”
Favorite Voiceline: Birthday Message
Childe The Whaler
Tumblr media
This lucky wealthy bastard with no remorse for his money whales for EVERY character. He’s making a collection, which is to get all the characters, especially the five stars. So when your banner finally popped up, he’s gonna square up and trigger a whole ass meteor shower.
How he pulled you: Money. His luck with this games are actually not the best so he always compensates with money, he got you halfway through the first failed pity, almost giving him a heart attack that he might actually break the bank just to get you.
And then he pulls more to raise your constellation lol.
The first thing he does is look over your character info and read through it all; constellation infos, your base stats, artifact compatibility.
At the end when he’s maximized everything, he would then focus on playing around with your character *coughs climbing noises coughs*
He thought you’d just be another part of his collection but playing with your character was very enjoyable and in-line with his playstyle- oops 100 screenshots with the Kamera-
Any and all merchandise that he fancies would be his, and he’s definitely flexing it to the other sweetie nerds who call themselves simps. He’s fighting for the simping title, and he’s currently neck and neck with this fanartist in Pixiv.
Speaking of that fanartist, he definitely commissioned an expensive and detailed portrait of you, full rights and everything. No one else was allowed to use it but him.
Was also the first one with the audacity to call out your VA to create an account on Tiktok to create more content with your voice. He was successful.
His obssession also comes in the form of self-indulgent contents, and had been keeping track of the ship wars happening. During conventions, he cosplays as the character shipped with you the most (or the character he thinks should end up with you).
Silently scrutinizing those who cosplay you, only ever taking pictures with/of the best looking one, sorry haha
Definitely flaunts that you are his waifu/husbando and will fight for best girl/best boy during debates or polls. Has mobilized the community to vote for you once. He’s very persuasive.
“Hm? Why I’m just the best collector in the game, and I am more than happy to let everyone know that I am their number one fan haha, everyone who claims otherwise is definitely wrong!”
Favorite Voiceline: More About (Y/N) I-IV, (Y/N)’s Hobbies...
Ganyu the Employed
Tumblr media
Ganyu, our dearest overworker, is one of the players in the older stage who actually has a job but still plays Genshin for their past times. The gorgeous sceneries and the music is her main focus in playing the game, not much of a try-hard but still decent in the combat mechanics.
How she pulled you: You came home within 50 pulls! And you appeared again after another 10 pull! Ganyu was so SHOOKT and so distressed because oh goodness, what does she do? She doesn’t know anything much about you!
Will rewatch your three trailers to try and understand your skills better, ended up saving the soundtracks from them because that was such a nice trailer music! Tnbee gains a new follower!
Ganyu will take a while before she can properly play or build you up because she’s so busy with work, she only ever plays when she feels fully done with her work.
During her break she plays with your character while multi-tasking on eating, earphones plugged in and sight on the phone as she farms materials and artifacts for you.
The moment she gets more help from her player friends tho, holy shit, you just ended up being so OP. She had so many good artifacts and weapons for you because she didn’t know what they were for before.
She loves how you’re so easy to use and can easily solo the enemies and even the boss fights. A huge breather, because now Ganyu can cheese the battles that takes a while, to give her more time to focus on the storyline and lores.
Since Ganyu plays for the story and aesthetic, she’ll find you almost always in her team. Still very proud of her pull, she makes the best screenshots of your fights or in the best angle through exploration.
Treasures you so much she starts talking to her phone- “Ah, no, please don’t fall.” “There’s violetgrass up there, let’s try and get it”
Blushes everytime you produce a sound when climbing, doesn’t change you anyways tho
Hums to your trailer music while working, and if permitted, would have the song on repeat while she buries herself in work. She finds it really refreshing and the time she spends in work miraculously flies by fast when she gets lost in the sound.
At one point, when she was given a day-off or if the convention was on her free time, she attends to look for cosplayers of you and take a picture. No one rejects her because she’s so adorable and cute when asking shyly.
Had brought a decent amount of merchandise, preferably the functional/practical ones like a phone cover, mug or keychain. Also has an earphones clamp with your little chibi self as the holder.
When asked, she would shyly announce that she likes your character the most.
“Their character theme and music really soothes me during work, it feels nice to have them, and I have not once regretted ever pulling for them. They are the best.”

I started this over a year ago and then never posted it. Sorry, my brain has been on vacation.
Thank you for the tag @senadimell! (And sorry for taking so long!)
Hmmm, favorite comfort things. Let’s see...
comfort food: Mashed potatoes. Always and forever mashed potatoes. With meatloaf or salmon cakes, or Swiss steak, or chicken, or beef roast, or anything really, or just by themselves.
comfort clothes: Something soft and flowy. Nightgowns and easy summer dresses. I would absolutely be a mumu person if it were more socially acceptable. In practice more often cotton t-shirts and cotton shorts. Soft soft soft.
comfort item: Unfortunately, my iPhone. There’s an addiction I need to beat. More healthily: a sketch pad and pencil.
comfort character: Phoenix/Jean Grey (X-men), Rogue (X-men), Catwoman (the Michelle Pfeiffer Batman Returns iteration), Eilonwy (The Prydain Chronicles), The Eighth Doctor (Doctor Who—particularly EDA-verse), Nienna (The Silmarillion—I know she barely appears but the idea of her brings me comfort), Wei Wuxian (MDZS/CQL—new addition but I love him and I suspect he’s a permanent fixture in my brain now). KOS-MOS and Shion (Xenosaga).
comfort song: Oh gosh. “Cumulus” by Imogen Heap (I’ve had that on repeat for days while I laid in bed with migraine), “To the Ancient Land” (first track of the Shadow of the Colossus soundtrack), “Figlio Perduto” (Sarah Brightman, La Luna, the tale of the abduction of a young boy by elves set to Beethoven’s 7th, Second Movement—like, can it get any better?), “Glosoli” (Sarah Brightman), “2000 Years” (Billy Joel), “Still” (Alanis Morissette from the Dogma soundtrack), “Mercy (from the Prayer Cycle)” (Alanis), the entire The Phantom of the Opera (original London cast, please), “Phoenix Rises” (John Powell from the X-men: The Last Stand soundtrack), “Dancing Mad” (Distant Worlds II cover of track from Final Fantasy VI, Nobuo Uematsu), “The First and the Last” (Xenogears, Yasunori Mitsuda). Honestly, I could go on forever here.
comfort youtuber: You know I don’t spend that much time on YouTube, but I once sat down and watched the entirety of Cooking with Dog, a cooking channel where a Japanese woman referred to only as “chef”, under the “guidance” of her dog, Francis, prepares traditional Japanese (washoku) and Westernized Japanese (yoshoku) dishes. This was my first exposure to Japanese cooking (outside of visiting an American sushi restaurant) and I was fascinated by the careful preparation of ingredients, often involving many small, deliberate steps taken to ensure each ingredient is exemplified in its best self as a part of each dish. Like watching any kind of careful and practiced craft in action, it was mesmerizing and really quite soothing.
comfort video game: Soooo many. Xenogears, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy VII, The Legend of Zelda: a Link to the Past, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Chrono Trigger.
comfort film: Moulin Rouge, Legend, The Lord of the Rings (all three), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Disney), Arsenic and Old Lace, Bringing Up Baby, Shall We Dance, Sunset Boulevard, Withnail & I.
comfort show: Star Trek: TNG, The X-Files, X-men: The Animated Series (look, how else am I going to get a Phoenix/Dark Phoenix Saga adaptation that isn’t a horrible dissapointment?), The Untamed (newest addition to this list).
comfort stim: I don’t know if I truly stim or not. I used to do (and still occasionally do) a thing where I had to twitch my toes in a certain rhythm.
comfort activity: Sitting on my porch or in my garden, walking through nature, driving through hidden backwoods and down old winding country roads, holding my cat (or any cat, anywhere, at any time).
Is comfort book not a thing? I am going to add it: Lord of the Rings, House of Leaves, The Prydain Chronicles, Cosmos, The Singularity Is Near (Kurzweil), Doctor Who: The Infinity Doctors, Arcadia (yes, it’s a play but it’s a play that reads as good as it performs)
tagging (with no pressure—I can’t remember who all did this the last time it went around): @thearrogantemu , @silver-grasp , @odense , @warrioreowynofrohan , @if-he-catches-me-ill

@secretheartmp3 tagged me to talk abt five songs ive had on repeat lately and honestly i couldn’t even tell you so i checked my spotify stats 😛
five- butter by bts
this one’s self explanatory it’s so good. that’s it that’s all i have to say about it.
four- today’s gonna be a great day from the phineas and ferb soundtrack
every song from p&f fucking bangs but ive been listening to this one like almost everyday kinda like a morning affirmation 😭 they’re like 🎵this could possibly be the best day ever🎵 and im yeah it could !!!!!
three- love to dream by doja cat
her new album is so good. me and my girlfriend first listened to it the night it came out. it was the night before my birthday and we were driving around looking for this specific cake and the windows were down and the weather was really nice. this is my favorite song from the new album (currently)
two- meet me at our spot by the anxiety (willow)
this is truly one of the best songs ive ever heard in my life and it makes me so excited that it’s by black ppl bc it’s exactly the type of song that i like to listen to but other songs like it are predominantly by white men or whatever so that’s cool
one- solar power by lorde
ok this one really grew on me im gonna be honest. when i first heard it i was like hey yk every artist has to put out a shitty song at least once. and then i heard it again and i was like ok this might not be her best song but in the context of the full album it’ll definitely sound better 😅. and now i fuckin love it it’s a vibe. i do kinda wanna fist fight lorde about the music video tho she really said black people don’t go to the beach 🙄 and then she said fine ONE black man can be at this beach if he helps carry my chair 😒 like ms girl…..read the room
anyway YEAH thats that. this is the most ive talked in a post in ages hi hello how is everyone hope u enjoyed. im tagging @alloutshirt @h-isforhome @2ghostsmp4 @28finelines @harrysboa @quependeja @bettysmp4 but if you wanna do it and i didnt tag you you can just say i tagged you and also if i tagged you you don’t have to do it :) !

just finished writing this and realized how long it got oh jeez i am so sorry. i promise it is just me rambling about nothing and does not require a lot of thought.
i made a playlist of r5's entire discography and am listening to it (in order) because there is something wrong with me. if only it had their very first ever ep on it (ready set rock ep you may have been slight garbage but i don't love you any less for it). oh god i realized i fucked up and didn't add the songs by "ross lynch and r5" from the austin & ally soundtrack. i'm already three songs into louder and they would have been between louder and say you'll stay. what do i have to do is actually one of r5's best songs and i'm pretty sure i remember ross calling it one of his favs fairly recently?? which was so valid of him. anyways. this is now an r5 song ranking. i'm bored and avoiding doing assignments. i'm going to name my top 10 r5 songs off the top of my head. source: me trying to remember every song they've ever released.
no. 1: easy love. nothing comes close. my fav song they ever made. they haven't made anything that even compares since (this is /hj. tde has some valid songs).
no. 2: wishing i was 23. what do you mean i only love this song because of my nostalgia bias no i don't.
no. 3: what do i have to do? i will not elaborate i do not know why i adore this song as much as i do it's just a cute song.
no. 4: repeating days. THE END. THE FUCKING END AFTER THE SONG ENDS THE "all i've got is cheap wine" PART ross sounds so vulnerable and him with just the guitar makes me so :(((((( it's so gorgeous that part makes the whole song and that makes it top 3 for me.
no. 5: i want u bad. THAT SONG FUCKS LIVE. I DO NOT WANT TO THINK ABOUT THE FACT THAT I WILL PROBABLY NEVER SEE IT LIVE AGAIN. (speaking of concerts i can't believe you bought concert tix and fucking forgot??? that is actually so fucking funny bella it made me laugh i will not lie)
no. 6: dark side. so so valid of them. it just fucks. it's so good. it makes u want to dance. u named a fic after a lyric from it which was so valid.
no. 7: did you have your fun? i love this song. no i will not elaborate. it is a sexy song. what's that one lyric from it that's hot. "love me, leave me, left me numb" some lyrics you love for no particular reason and for me that's one of those lyrics.
no. 8: f.e.e.l.g.o.o.d. this has alwayysss been one of my favs by them. since it dropped. some lore about it: the like crowd yelling that's in it they recorded live at a festival they played and i remember there being hype about this being an unreleased song when they had the crowd chanting "f-e-e-l-g-o-o-d" with no explanation. also another fun fact is that the final version of this is just a demo?? source: my slightly faulty memory remembering ross saying something about some demos being so good that you keep them as they are and it later being revealed this was the song he was talking about.
no. 9: i know you got away. sexy song. they released a vocals only version of it (that has apparently since been deleted?? i went to look for it on youtube and couldn't find it?? wtf r5) that has stuck with me ever since.
no. 10: loud. but more specifically the acoustic or live version. this was their encore song that they played to end every show. i MISS IT. it holds a special place in my heart.
honorable mentions: hurts good (a good song and THEIR LAST THEY EVER RELEASED VV SAD), wild hearts (fun fact almost picked a lyric from this song as my senior quote till i found out they didn't write this song), fallin' for you (YOU LIKE MISMATCHED SOCKS WITH POLKA DOTS YOU LIKE YOUR PIZZA COLD I THINK THATS HOT i never saw this song live and i'm still fucking pissed about it ok), do it again (it's such a sweet song :(((( "listen to the airplanes as we count the stars" gives me the same vibes as six feet under the stars), things are looking up (generally just a cute song!! this whole ep is just very good and very cute!! when i saw it live one time during the bridge ross was like "everyone shut up this is my favorite part >:(" and that was so valid of him) i can't say i'm in love (it's just a fun song!! it was a bonus track on sln from another country), trading time (this is the only song from the new addictions ep that i listed and u know what i'm Not sorry)
ok. i will spare you and stop rambling. other honorable mentions: if you have never listened to cool girl (feat. the driver era) by new beat fund i highly recommend. it's an okay song but it was one of the first songs released after they rebranded as tde and includes ross saying motherfucker with his whole chest. i will never again feel what i felt the first time i heard that song having listened exclusively to them as r5 whose songs they couldn't curse in because they were on a disney label.
in conclusion. i miss r5. ross saying fuck is kinda hot. i listened to the entirety of louder while writing this. i am sorry to dump this in your askbox. i still have multiple assignments to do and should probably go to sleep at a decent time. it feels fitting to finally stop writing while easy love is on. when i was 12 and this ep came out i thought "dirtbags" was a curse word and was scared to sing it. they changed it to "douchebags" live.
that's all. goodbye. have a lovely night. listen to r5's discography for clear skin thriving crops etc etc. sorry to lovepost about them in your askbox i only have (1) former r5 mutual that i still talk to (a very interesting but long story. she's the gemini bestie) and she will only lovepost about r5 once in a while. feel free to ignore my ask calling cody bellinger hot i was a different person when i wrote it i am now a changed woman. LOVE YOU MWAH - bella but she misses r5
hi hi im going to answer this with minimal thought because im tired but i dont wanna leave this sitting in my inbox forever but for the record all your r5 opinions are valid. ok lets go
1. easy love slaps ive heard it a couple times over the last few days (it played in the car today while i was driving sam n meghna to the airport) and it does fuck i can see why it's your fave
2. i do not know this song
3. A BOP A WHOLE FUCKIN BOP
4. oh i do love repeating days great choice i would have to hear it a few more times to get it in my head but i remember really liking it when i listened to the album it's on
5. also a banger and i'm glad my concert tickets situation made you laugh it made me laugh too imagine being this useless gldskfjgs
6. DARK SIDE FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS GIVE IN TO YOUR DARK SIDE YOUR DARK SIDE IIIIIIIII SEE THE WAY YOU LOOK AT MEEEEE
7. ANOTHER FUCKING BANGER this one is probably among my favorite r5 songs maybe top 5 LOVE ME LEAVE ME LEFT ME NUMB (guitar moment) DID YOU HAVE YOUR FUUUuuuuUUUUUNNNNN i feel the same way about this lyric as you
8. oh shit thats pretty cool i dont know this song tbh i cant remember how it goes i know ive heard it once or twice but. id have to listen to it again so i will keep you posted on that
9. i do not know this one either
10. interesting choice for top ten but i support you, this song fucks and ever since you mentioned it it's been in my subconscious and randomly getting stuck in my head i think i need to listen to it to get it out. it does hit ur right
11. i don't know hurts good or wild hearts or things are looking up or i can't say i'm in love or trading time well enough to say anything about them. but i really like fallin for you it's one of those cheap fun songs but emphasis on fun, and also really like do it again one day ill write a fic based on that song
i have not listened to cool girl i put it on my to listen playlist so hopefully i remember to listen to it soon ill be honest though i dont think im prepared for ross lynch saying motherfucker w his whole chest like i think itll take me out. so. anyway. i hope you got your assignments done. thank you for the r5 lovedump feel free to drop in anytime with more

hi poosie 💞🌺💘 im going w 3 nights by dominic fike; emotional by okaywil; honest by the neighborhood; devil i know by allie x; sweet disposition by the temper trap; very nice by seventeen; moonlight by dhruv; rain by ben platt; home by phillip phillips; just friends by jordy; timebomb by walk the moon; cross my heart by marianas trench; shatter me by lindsey striling; paris is burning by st vincent; arrival of the birds by the cinematic orchestra; nyc girl by the orion experience; relay by fiona apple; dnd by glaive; sympathy by vampire weekend; december 1963 by frankie valli & the four seasons; and step with me by mika.
if ur thinking ‘h what the fuck’ you & i would b thinking the same thing. i kept adding songs bc im like ‘ah shit what if they hate the one i suggested?’ so i added 2 more. and then yk . i kept adding until my spotify app weirdly refreshed and i took it as a sign from god to stfu and finish the list so !!! that’s what i have !!! i hope ur having a lovely lovely day & that u like at Least one on this list 💓❣️💘🌺💞‼️
i’m gonna tell u what i think of each song BUT i’m putting it under a read more lkdhfbf
1. 3 nights: i realized i’ve actually heard this one BUT not the whole song so it’s ok! i like it it’s v chill v vibey it sounds like streetlights reflecting off a wet road <3 (i am incapable of describing songs with adjectives)
2. emotional: the instrument in the background of this is rly cool idk it’s like. it kinda sounds like hitting spoons on a glass but more musical & almost piano like? i rly like it tho, this song sounds like bright colors & peaches :D
3. honest: this one kinda sounds like one of those ones that makes ur brain go brrrr ‼️ its like. laced w something kfjbjsbfksnv musically it’s not rly my thing but i can appreciate it as a song <3
4. devil i know: i only know one allie x song (can’t stop now) so i wasn’t sure what this would sound like but it’s kinda insane??? the background vocals r so cool i love the humming :0 v sexie nd her voice is so beautiful omg
5. sweet disposition: this feels oddly familiar. i don’t think i’ve heard it tho. it kinda reminds me of say geronimo if u know that one? it sounds like adventure kind of, like it could be used in a travel vlog (complimentary)
6. very nice: aju NICE babababdadadabbabda!!!! i’ve heard this one but i don’t mind listening to it again <3 bop banger etc. good vocals amazing horns in the chorus also if u haven’t seen the choreo i would definitely recommend it it’s so fun
7. moonlight: this is so pretty omg 🥺 i got a mental image of like. sitting on top of a car w someone u love & watching a meteor shower on a clear night. very chill his voice is so lovely
8. rain: ben platt’s voice is gorgeous. this is not the type of music i would have expected from him though??? idk he doesn’t seem like the pop music type of person. i think i prefer some of his other music (cough grow as we go cough) but this is a solid song
9.. home: ive heard this but not since i was like 10 so the nostalgia i got from it,,,, :’) home also sounds like a travel vlog song a bit! i think its the oooohhhhhohohohs in the post chorus (?). this song just reminds me of my childhood i used to hear it all the time on the radio sitting in the backseat <3
10. just friends: I HAVE ALSO HEARD THIS BUT IDK WHERE the beginning played nd i was like wait a minute. OH!! its so nice i love how simple the instrumentals are & jordy has a rly pretty voice as well!! the melody is so addictive as well
halfway done! this is fun<3
11. timebomb: bop?? this could be used in the soundtrack to a romcom tv show directed at teenagers (once again. what are adjectives) it reminds me of when shut up and dance came out nd everyone was obsessed with it.. that was a better time i think
12. cross my heart: headbanging songs > the lyrics to this one r a little basic but thats ok not every song has to have deep profound lyrics that make u feel existential. this is certainly a banger yessir. the ending is cool too i love harmonies
13. shatter me: scawy... the imagery in this is insane "i pirouette in the dark" UM?? this sounds like a movie hello. imagine WAI HISNFVNKDNV THE DROP???? THE VIOLIN?????? i litrally just had to interrupt myself that was not an exaggerated reaction. ANYWAYS i was going to say: the movie scene im imagining is like. it keeps cutting between a girl doing ballet in dark, foggy lighting & a fight scene
14. paris is burning: dark alleyways & vintage movies!!! i enjoyed this more than i expected to? im picturing a girlboss character, maybe a spy? in all black & carrying a purse walking down the street. but she has to be wearing one of those black hats w a veil in the front & a flower on the brim, an ankle-length velvety black coat, & heels that go plonk on the cobblestone
15. arrival of the birds: THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL!!!! OMG! blue skies & green grass at a state park!!! i love it so much actually this went in my healing playlist <333 the way it built up in the best way.. tears
16. nyc girl: ok the guitar in the intro??? this is fuckign music truly one of the most songs ive ever heard. the bass fucks as well i rly like this one :D its so catchy im already bopping nd ik later im gonna b going "im gonna make u ma ha hine"
17. relay: the lyrics are so good???? its not a song that id probably listen to very often just bc its musically not my type of thing BUT i respect it a lot. shes obviously a super talented artist like i looked up the lyrics nd apparently she wrote the repeated line when she was 15??? i love what the song is about!
18. dnd: the production on the vocals is a lil bit strange but i like the song itself if that makes sense. its like mitam where the songs r mixed weirdly but i enjoy the songs anyway? i did think for abt a minute that the title referred to dungeons & dragons tho,, also i just looked up the artist and he is ALSO 15 what the FUCK
19. sympathy: the GUITARRRRR omg omgogmomg!! i rly love the whole intro like the first 30 seconds r just *chefs kiss*. OOH bass solo sexyyyyy i love prominent bass :D the instrumentals r really nice too & it reminds me of like. a heist? like a found family of thieves. this song would play as they were breaking into a museum or smth
20. december 1963: GROOVY! simply a fkin tune idk dude like this IS fun nd makes me think of roadtrips during the summer & also of walking along a dock in a harbor under the moonlight. very much floaty yellow dress vibes this song is just a mood booster
21. step with me: domestic. domesticity. thats it. no but the chorus is rly nice omg i like the melody!!! its so cute too the lyrics r so wholesome.. this sounds like an old couple thats been married for 50 years dancing to the radio in their kitchen <333 life goals

(Warning for over the top totallyyyy justified passive aggressive bullying towards one (1) ☝🏽 specific tumblr user. We’re chill I can do this and (probably) not get blocked ✨)
BRRRRREAKING NEWS! 🥺 Sometimes effort DOES pay off!! 🤩 It is with great pleasure that I announce that I have been t- ive been t— omg I cant even say it I’m so excited!! I’ve been tagged!! By @howaboutswords 🙈🙉🙊—!!! BABXBSB!! I feel like making one of those text weaving posts or whatever now about the joy you feel when at long last love is finally reciprocated!! 🤩 Everything is golden! I’m posting this from over the moon in every sense but physical 🌙 Anyway I already did this 10 song shuffle thing very recently but I’m doing it again (bc I was tagged by @/howaboutswords!! 😳🤭) But this time I’m going to rip a page out of her diary and say a little random smth smth abt each song tooo~🎶
1. Pearl Diver by Mitski. My 1st Mitski song and I had to listen to it a few times to really like it. I was reading Beauty by Robin McKinley at the same time I looped it a bunch and now the two are forever and always connected in my mind ✌🏽🐚 9/10
2. Help by Surveyor. Nice voice, fast paced and has the word “ocean” in it 😊🌊 9.5/10
3. All We Do by Oh Wonder. My 1st ever Oh Wonder song. It’s lost its splendor, I’ve listened to it so much but! Still very good. I just never need to hear it again you know? 💫 8/10
4. Another Thriller by Minimatic. One of the few instrumentals out there that manage to keep me mentally engaged the whole time! Funky and the most newly discovered song on this whole list. Makes me wish I was in space and I don’t even like space. 🔵🔺🔶♦️9.5/10
5. Lovit by Marian Hill. Marian Hill was a guilty pleasure artist for me back in the day before I almost totally stopped caring (abt feeling guilty for pleasure)🎵 8/10
6. Indigo Night by Tamino. Not normally into hypnotic soulful crying songs but wowza🎆 9/10
7. It All Depends On You 👊🏽 by Ruth Etting. Spotify recommended Etting to me once upon a dream ago when I was listening to the mfmm soundtrack on repeat a bunch. Catchy but not addictive imo :P I prefer Button Up Your Overcoat and Harvest Moon 🌑🌕 7/10
8. You Were Only Passing Time With Me from the Miss Fisher soundtrack! 🕰💔8/10
9. Holy Ghost by BØRNS. I just think it sounds neat :D 👻 8/10
10. Real Sugar by Minden. I had a brief and intense affair with this song a few years ago and then totally forgot it existed. I listened to it a bunch when I first discovered Gunka no Baltzar so despite being completely incompatible in tone with this war based manga I associate it deeply with said war based manga and its endearing grizzled MC🍬🔫⚔️ 8/10
Tagging: literally anyone can and should do it if they wish, say I tagged you in spirit! Join me over the moon! Spread the wealth! 🎼

can't we just (sleep)talk?
Summary: Chloe bears witness to Beca’s sleeptalking problem.
Word count: 3213
For @kimmania to fulfill the conditions of my Bechloe/Planned Parenthood fundraiser. Thank you to everybody who donated. I still have it open for a few more days, but in total with my own FB friends’ donations, we’ve raised $500! That’s incredible, so thank you all. I am going to slowly work through the prompts I have received.
I hope you enjoy!
Title is loosely based on “Talk” by Khalid.
Read on AO3 or below.
  i.
It is the night before finals at the Lincoln Center. The Bellas are all abuzz with jittery nervousness.
Chloe just wants to sleep.
She smiles at the sight of Aubrey gracefully accepting the pillow Lily offers her, though she holds it warily for a moment, like she does not know what to do it.
Her steadiness is gone in a flash, however, and her entire body relaxes just before she’s swinging the pillow with precision and deadly accuracy.
Chloe does a quick headcount and smiles to herself when she realizes who is missing from their impromptu Bellas gathering in hers and Aubrey’s room.
She slips away, unnoticed.
– – – – – – – – – –
 Right to Beca's hotel room.
“Hey,” Chloe greets when Beca opens her hotel room door. “You’re missing all the destressing.”
Beca smiles wryly and opens the door wider to allow Chloe in. “So are you, then. If you’re here.”
“No Bella should be alone on the evening of their first finals competition,” Chloe recites. She nudges Beca with her shoulder playfully when she brushes past, ignoring Beca’s grumbling in lieu of gasping when she notices Beca’s laptop and headphones. “Please don’t tell me you’re working on last minute setlist changes, Bec.”
Like she does whenever Chloe’s nickname for her slips past her lips, Beca’s brow furrows, but only for a moment. “I’m not,” she promises. “I’m just…” she gestures at the bed. “Listening to music.”
Chloe picks up on her tone right away. Following Beca’s lead, she perches on the edge of the bed and waits for more instruction from Beca – Beca who has been more open recently, but whom Chloe knows to be conscious of her own space at any given time. Beca glances up at her as she resettles on her bed. Beca grabs her headphones and just as Chloe thinks Beca is about to leave her hanging, Beca unplugs her headphones from her laptop and begins neatly wrapping up the cord.
“Want to...watch some YouTube videos with me?” Beca offers.
Chloe refrains from nodding quickly and leaping onto the bed with excitement.
“I would love that.”
– – – – – – – – – –
“Have you ever watched one of those hot dog eating contests?”
“God, please, no–okay, yep. We’re watching it.”
– – – – – – – – – –
“Oh, this twenty-five ways to tie a scarf video would have been helpful. I still can’t decide how I want to wear my scarf tomorrow.”
Beca snorts. “As helpful as twenty-five ways to cook a chicken?” A pause. “It’d be cute as a belt," she suggests quickly, then proceeds to avoid Chloe's eyes.
 – – – – – – – – – –
Beca’s recommended videos include a lot of movie soundtracks and top forty hits. Chloe swallows at the memory of how they had all banded together to help Beca put together an ideal setlist while also making up with Jesse.
Chloe tries not to be jealous, she really does. She wants Beca to be happy and safe and loved .
Chloe just doesn’t know how to show she can provide those exact things for Beca.
“Pick a song,” Beca says suddenly, startling Chloe out of her brief reprieve.
Chloe is disoriented when she comes to. The room is dark and she is snug and comfortable under the sheets. Her back aches a little bit because she is still propped up a little against the headboard, but a pillow was placed behind her lower back and the comforter was pulled up over her lap.
That would be sweet enough on its own if it weren’t for the fact that Beca – Chloe hopes it’s Beca in the darkness – is pressed up against her side, essentially cuddled into Chloe’s side. They’re barely touching, but they are close enough that Chloe can feel the warmth radiating off Beca’s back.
A part of her wants to lie down completely and wrap Beca up in her arms, but she figures that would be weird and crossing more boundaries than she already crossed when she barged in Beca’s shower. Not her proudest moment.
Chloe sighs and tries to figure out how to move from the bed without too much creaking or jostling.
“For you,” Beca mumbles.
Chloe blinks away the last dredges of sleep. “Beca?” she whispers. A quick glance past the gap in the hotel room’s blinds and she can see that it is still dark outside. Another quick glance over to the other bed in the room and she can tell that Amy is yet to return. “Beca,” she tries again, louder.
“Chloe,” Beca responds, sounding awake and yet, not. Chloe frowns and props herself up on her elbow so she can lean over Beca’s side, careful not to brush unnecessarily against Beca’s body. “Chlo,” she repeats, slurring a little on the lone syllable.
“Is that my nickname?” Chloe asks distractedly, trying to force her eyes to adjust in the dark. She isn’t even sure what she’s saying, ready to tease the hell out of Beca if she’s sleep talking. Beca continues to be an enigma – adorable and mysterious all at once.
“The vending machine.”
Chloe frowns at the change in topic. Or perhaps there was never a topic to begin with. She’s so tired. “Do you need something?” she asks.
Beca doesn’t respond for a moment, then she heaves a sigh as if she is irritated or exasperated. “It plays music,” she murmurs, somehow both reverent and impatient.
Chloe nearly sags in relief. It takes additional energy to further not burst into peals of giggles and risk waking Beca up. “You’re so cute,” she mutters, this time reaching over to gently touch Beca’s cheek to check if she is really asleep. Beca doesn’t bat her hand away. She manages to finally lie down comfortably, sighing in contentment when she does not jostle Beca too much. Instead, it is Beca who seems to wriggle backwards into Chloe’s side, uncomfortably trapping Chloe’s arm to her side.
As Chloe drifts off, she makes a mental note to tease Beca about it tomorrow after their performance. And maybe ask Beca if she wants to get coffee. Or maybe a quick bite for dinner. Just them.
“Just the way you are,” Beca murmurs, sounding more tired than before.
Chloe tries not to smile. Beca does not speak again for the rest of the time Chloe remains awake.
 – – – – – – – – – –
  ii.
Sometimes when Beca sleeptalks, she sings, apparently.
Chloe thinks it is the most adorable thing in the world. She barely restrains from protesting loudly when she overhears Amy complaining about being Beca's roommate – she complains about how Beca is always singing. Awake or dreaming, it doesn't matter to Beca.
The other Bellas giggle.
It is so beautiful to know that Beca lives and breathes music – that it thrums through her veins as poignantly as her own blood.
Chloe hopes to be able to hear it one day.
 – – – – – – – – – –
  iii.
"Grab me the keyboard," Beca mutters.
Chloe groans, blinking awake because she knows she has an early morning. As awesome as it is that Beca sometimes whispers when she sleeptalks, it is kind of inconvenient to Chloe now that they share a tiny cramped fold-out. Chloe had tried earplugs, but it had nearly made her late for her first day of work because she missed her own alarm.
She doesn't mind it terribly, she thinks as she rolls over to face Beca. Beca is lying on her back, breathing steadily. Her brow is furrowed like she's thinking hard about something important. Chloe hopes it isn't the residual strain and stress of her recent break-up with Jesse.
Slowly, Chloe reaches out to gently touch the furrow of Beca's brow, willing her to relax and slip back into a (hopefully silent sleep).
Still, never one to resist a conversation with Beca, Chloe scoots a little closer. "What are you thinking about?" she asks, wondering if Beca is done for the night. She slowly moves her hand back and away from Beca's face.
"Wait."
Chloe freezes.
"The jukebox," Beca mutters. "Song."
"The jukebox song?" Chloe asks.
Beca mumbles something incoherent, then shifts a little restlessly. Chloe quickly backs away, worried she overstepped an invisible boundary. She hates that her inappropriate crush on her best friend never really went away – she hates the late nights and long days pretending that she isn't completely in love with Beca Mitchell. Beca and all her quirks and music and the way she makes Chloe feel like she's doing something right with her life.
Beca doesn't respond again for another long while, so Chloe resettles on her side of the bed and mirrors Beca's position. She stares up at the ceiling for some time, wondering.
Then, just as she is about to finally drift off again–
"Chloe."
Beca's voice follows her into her dreams.
 – – – – – – – – – –
  iv.
Sometimes when Beca sleep talks, it is of great interest to Chloe. Not that she isn’t interested in literally everything her girlfriend has to say because Chloe could listen to Beca talk forever (awake or otherwise), but just, sometimes –
Chloe awakes to the sound of her alarm. She groans and slowly grapples for her phone off her bedside to hit the snooze button.
“Hey,” Chloe whispers, when Beca shifts against her back.
Beca groans, then mumbles something completely incoherent. Her arm tenses from where it is draped around Chloe’s waist, then Beca cuddles closer than before.
With how they're lying, curled up against each other, Beca is basically all wrapped around Chloe, her leg draped over Chloe’s thigh to lock Chloe in place. Not that she plans on being anywhere else. Not when Beca's body is warm and Chloe is essentially waking up to her own personal heated blanket.
Beca groans and shifts against Chloe’s back. Her groan sounds like a moan more than anything else.
Chloe especially loves when Beca has interesting dreams.
"Chloe," Beca whimpers.
Oh. Then there's that. The unmistakable whine in Beca's whimper and the way she rocks subtly against Chloe.
"Beca," she whispers back, whether this at all translates into Beca's dreams. Whether she is egging Beca along or slowly waking her up.
There is something in the way Beca says her name – soft and full of wanting. Like she has been dreaming of Chloe all night and she can no longer control herself.
As curious as Chloe is to see where this goes – to see what else Beca can say, she is more interested in what Beca can do.
So she twists in Beca's arms, causing her girlfriend's eyes to flutter open, revealing unmistakable desire behind the haze of confusion typical to somebody when they are just waking.
"Oh," Chloe says, gently nudging at Beca's body so she's lying prone. She presses slow, languid kisses to Beca's neck "Good dream?"

  v.
Beca is rarely delegated to the couch, but sometimes she just rides the every last edges of Chloe’s nerves and they say things they don’t mean.
Chloe can see the exhaustion in her girlfriend’s eyes, but it doesn’t dim the hurt she feels. It just makes her heart tense painfully. She wishes more than anything for Beca to just talk to her – for Beca to just let her in, but it feels like the walls get higher and higher.
Chloe doesn’t want to beg, but she’s not above doing just that. She can’t lose Beca – not like this.
Sighing in aggravation when she hears only the oppressive silence of her bedroom. No sound of Beca’s teeth grinding together. No sight of Beca drooling on her pillow. No sensation of Beca’s hand wrapped up in Chloe’s t-shirt tightly like she’s afraid to let go.
Chloe wraps her robe around her shoulders and slowly opens her bedroom door. She winces at each creak in the wood panelling, but each step means she gets to be close to Beca again.
She can see the lump that makes up Beca’s body on the couch in the darkness and as her eyes from the streetlights outside her window, more features begin to stand out to her.
Chloe sighs when she notices that Beca has kicked her fleece blanket to the ground. Gathering it up, she pulls it up to Beca's shoulders, ensuring Beca is neatly tucked in.
"Don't go," Beca says, a little loudly. Chloe startles and freezes in her ministrations. She waits a moment and realizes Beca is asleep. Of course she is.
Chloe waits another moment longer before sighing again. "Where would I even go without you?" Chloe replies quietly, knowing she is speaking to Beca's subconsciousness. Knowing that there will be more time for them to talk tomorrow. And the days that follow. She sighs and sits on the loveseat next to the couch, simply watching Beca's face for a moment. "What would I do without you?" she ponders, willing her tears to stay at bay.
"Hey, that's Chloe's!"
Chloe would laugh if she weren't feeling so sad about their fight. Beca legitimately sounds upset about something – verging on angry.
Chloe wonders for a moment how emotions manifest in a person's sleep habits. How emotions control the way your body reacts to new sleeping environments. How human it is to just want to be the subject of somebody's dreams – to be wanted and desired all the same.
"Do you know where it is?" Beca asks, voice muffled against the couch. Chloe smiles and shakes her head. She stands so she can gently move Beca's hair away from her face. Beca is practically pressing her entire face into the back of the couch.
"You're going to suffocate, nerd," Chloe comments, attempting to maneuver Beca's shoulder. She doesn't have to do much work because Beca is rolling over on her own. She sprawls as best as she can on the couch, similar to how she sprawls in their bed. Chloe is filled with utmost affection for the sleeping woman in front of her.
"Headphones," Beca says after a moment. "For your voice."
Then she begins to snore.
"I love you," Chloe murmurs, leaning down again so she can press a kiss to Beca's ear. She lingers, wondering whether touch can translate into sound. She hopes Beca dreams of the most wonderful things.
There is always tomorrow.

vi.
“You’re never leaving again,” Chloe declares. She wraps her arms around Beca’s waist and cuddles into her side, ignoring Beca’s grumbles about cold feet and cold hands. “I missed you so much,” she murmurs, pressing a kiss to Beca’s cheek, sloppy and light.
She is so happy to have Beca back in her arms. This tour has been grueling.
She tells Beca as much, only to receive an amused chuckle in response before Beca is pressing a kiss to her forehead, then to her nose, then with some playful coaxing – and Chloe’s playful grumbling – a kiss to Chloe’s lips.
Chloe sinks into Beca’s touch like it is their first kiss all over again.
Slowly, Beca allows Chloe to ease her back on the bed and remind her exactly what she has missed during her time away.
 – – – – – – – – – –
When Chloe wakes, she is disoriented because of how comfortable she is. She had been sleeping uncomfortably for the past two months because Beca had been away and she had gotten used to the sensation of falling asleep alone and of waking up alone.
She is not alone now, however. She does not need to open her eyes to know that she has her nose pressed into Beca's hair. The familiar smell of gentle, flowery shampoo and the accompanying sensation of Beca's soft, curly hair. Her arm is tucked around Beca's middle securely, like even in her sleep Chloe was unwilling to let her go again.
Good, she thinks, flexing her arm for a moment in a burst of possession and love. Stay forever.
"You're never leaving," she says aloud.
She doesn't expect Beca to respond because Beca's breathing is steady and slow, like she is asleep and resting fitfully. Chloe kind of expects that after all the travelling and performing. Beca works too hard.
She is surprised however, when Beca seems to sigh in her sleep. "Marry me," she says softly.
Chloe freezes. Her limbs stiffen and her brain seems to shut down. All that's left is the pounding of her heart.
She wishes so much for Beca to be awake so that she can give Beca the most enthusiastic and resounding yes she can muster.
But the fact that the thought is on Beca's mind somewhere is enough for the moment. It is enough for the moment that Chloe knows she can hope for that in their future with more confidence.
Of course, Beca would randomly propose to her while sleeptalking. It is so opportune. Chloe has only ever fallen in love slowly with Beca with these private moments – well, pseudo-private. Moments where she can dream and imagine exactly what goes on in Beca's mind. The things she doesn't tell Chloe. Random thoughts and ideas.
It feels kind of ironic that there have been all those one-sided conversations Chloe has had with Beca. Now she wishes desperately for Beca to wake up and join her so they can take this step together. It is additionally more poignant that Chloe has felt less and less inclined to react at all to Beca's sleeptalking because she finds that the real thing is so much better. Beca is open and vibrant and so, so beautiful that it bothers Chloe any moment that Beca isn't awake and making Chloe's day a little brighter.
She sighs and resigns herself to falling back asleep, at least until they can wake up together and decide what take-out to order.
Then, Beca shifts and turns in her arms.
Her eyes are wide-open and she looks a little frightened. "Chloe?" she rasps. "Did you–?"
It takes Chloe a long time to catch up because she's surprised to see Beca's eyes staring back at her.
"Are you asleep?" is what she manages to ask when her mouth catches up to her brain, even if Beca is staring straight at her. Beca, with messy hair and flushed cheeks and a blooming hickey on her neck. Yikes, Chloe thinks distractedly before she lifts her eyes back to Beca's face again.
"Chloe," Beca says softly. "Marry me."
"Am I asleep?" Chloe asks, weaker this time. Her heart continues to pound even as her body slowly unfreezes.
Beca looks like she's trying not to laugh even if desperation shines from her eyes like anchors keeping Chloe at bay. "Chloe," she implores. "Please, will you marry me?"
"A hundred times yes," Chloe finally manages to say. She pinches herself, then she pinches Beca. At Beca's yelp and the residual pain in her own arm, Chloe nods as best as she can, tangling her hair even more as it rubs against her pillow. She could care less. "Beca, yes. I just – I thought you were asleep!" she exclaims.
"I'm not asleep," Beca says. Her hands are a little shaky as she pulls Chloe in for a deep kiss. "I love you," she murmurs. "I love you so much and I never want to be without you."
"This isn't a dream," Chloe mumbles against Beca's mouth. She repeats it, eventually losing steam because Beca is covering her mouth more efficiently with her own and her hands start to wander. "But ask me again–" she pants out, as Beca's lips descend lower,  down her chest and stomach.
Beca does, over and over.

Biz Markie
Tumblr media
Marcel Theo Hall (born April 8, 1964), better known by his stage name Biz Markie, is an American rapper, beatboxer, DJ, actor, comedian, television personality and spokesperson. He is best known for his 1989 single "Just a Friend", which became a Top 40 hit in several countries. In 2008, "Just a Friend" made #100 on VH1's list of the 100 greatest hip hop songs of all time.
Markie has been called the "Clown Prince of Hip Hop."
Early life
Markie's career began on Long Island and he graduated from Patchogue Medford High School in 1982."Biz Markie Shows, Concerts, & Tickets 2020". EventBrite.com. Retrieved March 29, 2020.
Career
1980s
Biz Markie was interviewed in the 1986 cult documentary Big Fun In The Big Town. Markie released his debut album, Goin' Off, in 1988, which attracted a fair amount of attention, largely due to the lead single, "Make the Music With Your Mouth, Biz". The album also featured the underground hit singles "Nobody Beats The Biz", "Vapors", and "Pickin' Boogers".
On October 10, 1989, Biz Markie's second studio album, The Biz Never Sleeps, was released on Cold Chillin'/Warner Bros. Records, produced by Biz, his cousin Cool V and Paul C. The single "Just a Friend", in which he alternates between rap and singing, became Markie's most successful single, reaching #9 on the Billboard charts.
The song interpolates the 1968 song "You Got What I Need" by singer/songwriter Freddie Scott, whose basic chord and melody provided the base for the song's chorus. "Just A Friend" was ranked 81st on VH1's 100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders in 2000, and later as number 100 on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop in 2008.
The music video, directed by Lionel C. Martin, chronicles the rapper's woman problems.
1990s
Markie's third studio album I Need a Haircut was released on August 27, 1991, on Cold Chillin'/Warner Bros. Records and was produced by Biz Markie and his cousin Cool V. Sales of the album were already low when Markie was served a lawsuit by Gilbert O'Sullivan, who claimed that the album's "Alone Again" featured an unauthorized sample from his hit "Alone Again (Naturally)". O'Sullivan's claim was upheld in a landmark ruling, Grand Upright Music, Ltd. v. Warner Bros. Records Inc., that altered the landscape of hip-hop, finding that all samples must be cleared with the original artist before being used. In accordance with the ruling, Warner Bros., the parent company of Cold Chillin', had to pull I Need a Haircut from circulation, and all companies had to clear samples with the samples' creators before releasing the records. This development reflected the increasing popularity of hip-hop and the financial stakes over which releases were set. Biz responded in 1993 with the mischievously titled All Samples Cleared!, but his career had been hurt by the publicity emanating from the lawsuit, and the record suffered accordingly. Additional bad news came when the video for the track 'Toilet Stool Rap' was labeled Worst Video of the Year on the Fromage show from Canada's MuchMusic.
For the remainder of the decade, Markie occasionally made television appearances, including guest appearances on In Living Color (including as contestant Damian "Foosball" Franklin in the recurring game show sketch "The Dirty Dozens" and as Marlon Cain in "Ed Bacon: Guidance Counselor") and in a 1996 freestyle rap commercial on MTV2. He also made numerous guest appearances with the Beastie Boys on Check Your Head (1992), Ill Communication (1994), Hello Nasty (1998), and their anthology The Sounds of Science (1999). He also rapped on the song "Schizo Jam", on Don Byron's 1998 release, Nu Blaxploitation (Blue Note/Capitol) and worked with Canibus on the first track on the Office Space soundtrack (1999). He also rapped on the track "So Fresh" alongside Slick Rick on Will Smith's 1999 album Willennium.
In 1996, Markie appeared on the Red Hot Organization's compilation CD, America is Dying Slowly, alongside Wu-Tang Clan, Coolio, and Fat Joe, among others. The CD, meant to raise awareness of the AIDS epidemic among African American men, was heralded as a masterpiece by The Source magazine.
In 1997, a sample of a Markie recording appeared in the Rolling Stones' song "Anybody Seen My Baby?" from their album Bridges to Babylon. His part was shortened on some radio versions. Biz also teamed up with Frankie Cutlass on his third single and music video titled "The Cypher Part 3" with some of Marley Marl's Juice Crew veterans.
In 1999, Markie appeared on Len's song "Beautiful Day" on their album You Can't Stop the Bum Rush, as well as on Alliance Ethnik's album Fat Comeback.
2000s
In 2002, Markie appeared in Men in Black II, with Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, essentially playing an alien parody of himself, whose native language sounded exactly like beatboxing. Between 2002 and 2003 he appeared in episode 5 of the TV series Fastlane playing himself as a nightclub DJ. In 2005, Biz detoured from his recording duties to appear on the first season of the television show Celebrity Fit Club which challenged celebrities to lose weight by a combination of diet and exercise. Biz Markie lost more weight than anybody else in the competition. That year, he was also in an episode of The Andy Milonakis Show.
Biz Markie was a cast member on Nick Cannon's Wild 'n Out, seasons 1 and 3. Biz also does the beatboxing segment, Biz's Beat of the Day on the Nick Jr. show Yo Gabba Gabba!.
Biz Markie began 2008 opening for Chris Rock's "No Apologies" tour. Biz Markie's act includes spinning records ranging from old school hip hop to Lynyrd Skynyrd and then performing "Just a Friend". Biz Markie's playlist includes the following: "Children's Story" by Slick Rick, "Rapper's Delight" by The Sugarhill Gang, "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson, "Holiday" by Madonna, "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" by Wham!, "It Takes Two" by Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock, "The Breaks" by Kurtis Blow and "Robot Rock" by Daft Punk.
In December 2009, Biz Markie appeared in a RadioShack commercial, repeating the line: "Oh Snap! Guess what I saw!" from his song "Just A Friend". That same year saw his debut with Andy Milonakis in television commercials for the commercial Internet service Tune Up.
2010s
In 2010, Biz Markie appeared on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, providing commentary throughout the series. Biz Markie himself was not included on the list. On November 9, 2010, Biz appeared on The Aquabats! new EP, Radio Down! in the title track. On November 11, 2010, Biz sat in with The Roots on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and performed "Just a Friend" with actor Jeff Goldblum.

He voiced rapper Rhymez and his DJ, Tiny Timmy Scratch It, in the Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja episode "Hip Hopocalypse Now".
He guest starred in the SpongeBob SquarePants episode "Kenny the Cat", in the episode's title role. His voice acting work also includes the voice of Snorlock the Beatboxing Slug in an episode of Adventure Time.
In 2014, he appeared in the Syfy network movie Sharknado 2: The Second One. That same year, he threw a ceremonial first pitch for an Oakland Athletics baseball game.
In 2016, his song, "Just a Friend" was featured in the Netflix Series Love as an ending theme for episode 4. He also makes an appearance in a song titled "The Noisy Eater" off the album Wildflower by The Avalanches.
In 2016, he appeared on the Fox TV series Empire as himself, where he performed the song, "Just A Friend."
