Not my usual type of post but it's impressive every time how fucking shit liberals are at politics it's crazy. Liberals today have been dog piling on Chappell Roan for this statement. But what does blindly endorsing the Harris campaign do? Absolutely nothing, her audience is majority queer and already know about the GOP's platform to take away their rights, they aren't going to be voting for Trump. But if liberals keep on with "vote blue no matter who" and can't even bluff that your vote is up in the air around key issues, never willing to pressure politicians, we will never see liberals actually do anything meaningful in office.
An endorsement from Chappell Roan for Kamala Harris is useless, but saying "These are the issues I want the democratic party to address before endorsing them" brings more attention to those issue and actually builds pressure for them to actually listen to the people in their party.
Roe v. Wade should have been codified. LGBTQ+ protections should have been much more extensive. Liberals putzing around and arguing "both sides" as a genocide has been going on for a year now is disgusting and vile. These are all failures of the democratic party (and there are countless more). No wonder Chappell Roan doesn't want to endorse them! Liberals don't make the steps to actually put in place protections for vulnerable groups, and then act shocked every time Republicans easily roll those rights and policies back.
A vote is more powerful than I think a lot of people give credit to, but I think a lot of people don't know how to leverage that power effectively. An undecided voter (even posing as one) will get you heard out on the issues you care about a lot more than someone who votes blue no matter who. I do believe Kamala Harris will win this election in November. But to apply no pressure to her campaign as liberals point at Trump and say "he's way worse!" Yeah, obviously. Everyone even slightly left leaning knows that already. But the democratic party is never going to move forward if the only time they act is when their backs are up against the wall with fascist opposition. Let it be known what issues affect your vote, where the democratic party is failing, speak out on what matters to you. Do not be afraid to pressure your politicians just because the other guy is worse.

ok but . . . . . . . Could YOU be kira and win?!
based on how light formulated kira, it's impossible for kira to win. kira's 'new world' has no win condition - light never cleanly defines what criteria he would need to satisfy, so the new world is inherently aspirational, because deep down, light doesn't want to win at all, he just wants to play.
social reform via mass murder, especially in the way kira formulates it but really in any way, is also not only (obviously!!!) deeply, deeply unethical, it's also just fundamentally impossible for myriad reasons. again, kira can't win.
if you found the death note in real life, i would heavily advise against using it. i personally would not use it. aside from, again, the obvious ethical ramifications, it's just too fucking risky!!! the parameters of how the note functions, the potential consequences, the rules, the terms of the 'contract' you'd enter into by using it - all of these are unclear, even if you knew about death note the series. furthermore, even if you had access to the rules, which you don't, the rules explicitly state that the shinigami don't have to explain everything to you. not even the shinigami can access all the rules (only the shinigami king). and based on the a-kira short story, the rules can change and apply retroactively at any time. even if you didn't know all that, by choosing to use it, you would be submitting yourself to all sorts of unknown supernatural and non-supernatural risks. it's just not a smart thing to do. leave that shit Alone
kira is a hubris trap. the death note is designed to appeal to all the most unstable parts of a person's psyche. it's especially good at targeting one particular vulnerability in humanity, which is that people are generally much worse at considering how they would react in a hypothetical scenario than they think they are. anyone who thinks they could succeed in using the death note, even with a better formulated plan than light yagami, is falling victim to that trap.

TW for brief mention of abuse in the last paragraph (nothing detailed, just, a mention of stats) I'm dumping this here because I'm scared to have my name attached to it, but I quite firmly believe that you cannot actually be an ally to all trans people while also hating cis men. Obviously there is something to be said about how it harms trans women, but I don't fully understand the experience that comes with that, and I'll mostly be speaking about AFAB transmascs here because I'm AFAB transmasc. I'm also disabled and using my last spoons to understand and type this, so apologies.
I find that people take two routes as to how to approach trans men, when they hold hatred for cis men, in that they either divorce the idea of us from the idea of "man", or they decide that because of our manhood, we are both privileged, and they must hate us too.
When it comes to separating us from manhood, a lot of people will talk about "men" and "trans men" as separate categories, and you see it in things like "not you though, I didn't mean trans men", but you also see it in the way that people have completely different expectations of how trans men and cus men should interact with the world, particularly with women. I don't really have the energy to think about how to put it into words, so if anyone else can pick up what I'm putting down, feel free to add on, or I might come back and elaborate later. But I find that it completely alienates us from the concept of manhood.
I've also had similar from my own mother, who told me that it was hard to see me as a man, because I had such "feminine traits", like, being helpful. Kind. Thoughtful. Things like that, because she found it hard to reconcile the fact that I was apparently all of those things, while also being a man, which is apparently the bad gender. Because evil is stored in the gender, obviously. (/s)
The other way I mentioned is the way that transradfems most often take, in the idea that men always oppress women, and there is no situational factor to it, and therefore trans men are included in that, and are therefore privileged and so it is fine to hate us, because we're men, and therefore it is okay to hate us, and this will never cause us any harm. For example, being denied access to shelters for being men. For many transandrophobes, us complaining about this is us being whiny and privileged, or weaponizing our AGAB, whereas, to myself certainly, I can't speak for others, male victims are more common than most people dare to think, but there is a lack of shelters that provide for men, which is an even bigger problem for trans men, because we have extremely high rates of abuse, but nowhere to turn to without having to detransition.
I also maintain it'll always be a major threat to trans women as well. If you call yourself a trans ally but hate cis men, as far as I'm concerned you're one step away from turning on me because there's no basis on which you can logically claim cis men are categorically worse that doesn't also apply to trans women - like, is it because of how they're raised, how society teaches them to be? Because that sure sounds a lot like you're expressing a belief in male socialization! TERFs are wrong about trans women, but if you accept their worldview you can't take it halfway and expect it to make sense.

I wanted to talk about some Cradle stuff so I pulled this put of my drafts and polished it up a bit. This came out of my own musings as well as a conversation on reddit regarding what childhood and early sacred arts looks like for different people in the world.
We see a lot of different people with different types of paths but we don't know much about most of them or how children choose them. In some circumstances
For some Paths, it's obviously a question of tradition, while others are more utility, and more are products of ambition. But what does advancement look like when those things are absent?
As I organized my thoughts I ended up making some categories of what different upbringings with the sacred arts might look like.
The Traditional
This encompasses many of the Paths we see in Cradle. These are the well trodden and firmly established "Paths of the Clan". Here is your White Fox, your Grasping Sky, your Blackflame, your Stellar Spear. These are paths that the vast majority of the clan or family follow in unison.
Tradition and competition for resources weigh heavily on these paths. A path of light and dreams doesn't necessarily lend towards farming, but the Wei still overwhelmingly practice the White Fox. Every person on the path becomes a capable combatant under this method, and they might need to be.
Children start following this Path at Copper and follow it the rest of their lives.
The Lesser Clan
This is the path of clans like the Redflower, but also applies to smaller families as well. These paths bridge the gap between Tradition and Utility. The family path is not so heavily tied to the concept of honor or combat. Its a path that serves a purpose, and it's a purpose that you are born to. This is the path of "my father and his father before him." The path of "sixth generation farmer" and "my daughter will take over the family business." Whatever the parents do, the child can expect to do as well.
This path also starts at Copper.
The Great Clan
We see this in the Akura and the Arelius. These clans have resources and knowledge and their people follow a variety of Paths. There is likely an influence towards one type of path or another, purely due to there being more resources and knowledge regarding that type of madra.
Its hard to know how a path starts in these families—how much influence a parent takes over the path of the child. This is the path of options. A child here might delay starting their path until they have chosen the perfect one. A child might have the perfect path chosen for them and begin working towards it from a young age. A child might choose to develop their own path.
The age and level of advancement that a child is when they actually start on their Path could be highly variable, especially given the possibility of advancing through the lower realms via elixir rather than cycling.
The Mighty Sect
These are schools such as the Cloud Hammer or Jade Eyes. They have strength and resources and a specific Path that they teach, but they are not one family or clan. Prospective students are drawn from other families through a variety of processes. Its likely that some students' parents pay for them to learn from the sect, or else deal in favors to get their child admittance. Its likely that there is some sort of admission process in which children prove their worth to join the sect.
Its unclear regarding the age of admission for these schools. Perhaps they only take pure Coppers, or perhaps any artist below Jade or even Gold whose core can be converted to the path.
The Pathless
This is the path of Mu Enkai. Poor individuals with no resources or training that don't follow any real path. They harvest whatever aura is either most plentiful or most related to the work they are likely to be doing. Techniques are rough and not necessarily even frequently used. Remnant for advancement to Gold is likely a matter of opportunity more than anything else.
~~~~~~~~~~~
The rest of my ideas are only partially supported by direct text, and some of them are entirely the result of unsupported theory crafting and worldbuilding.
The Worker
These are people who know what they want to do, and choose a path that will get them there. Writers on Dream Paths, gardeners on Life paths, builders on Earth paths. These are the children that know that they want to be when they grow up and follow a path that helps them with that. Just like in real life, not many kids actually know what they want to do at the age of six and then happily stick with it.
The Ambivalent
This one is similar but different to the Pathless. Where a poor peasant might be denied the resources to advance beyond lowgold, there are probably a large number of people, particularly living in large cities, that just don't care. They are going to work jobs and live their lives in a way that the sacred arts don't really impact. They probably advance to lowgold like a child being pushed through high school. Maybe they select an aura type as a child based on their favorite color. Maybe they select a remnant based on the appeal of possible goldsigns. It doesn't really matter, they don't care, the sacred arts are merely an afterthought in their lives.
The Modern Middle Class
These are the Cradle Suburbanites. People that live in towns and cities big enough that they don't really have to worry about sacred arts battles for the most part. Their parents work at jobs and bring home scales and buy their children elixirs. The child advances based mostly on elixirs until they reach peak Jade, and are old enough to pick a remnant from the remnant store. Maybe they stop there, or maybe they advance, but they are old enough to choose for themselves at that point.
The Educated
This is the advanced form of Suburbanite. These kids go to modern style schools for the sacred arts. The school provides elixirs and training. The students are taught principles of madra and technique fundamentals. They have homework and quizzes and tests with practicals. When they get older they start to specialize and begin working more directly with the types of madra they want. The school library has information that the children can use to craft their own paths, or manuals from common paths for the children to choose from. The school provides a selection of remnants for the children to advance with and high level classes to help integrate remnants with the goal of advancement to Highgold at minimum before graduation.
The Village
These are children that grow up in small poor villages that don't have many resources or much knowledge and that aren't actively being oppressed by more advanced artists. There's not really a big push for advancement or any competition over it. Children might talk with different relatives, neighbors, and family friends before choosing a direction that sounds interesting. While not a Path persay, they do get taught little lessons on techniques and receive advice from the adults around them.
The Tutored
Inspired by Oz's childhood, these children are taught the fundamentals of the sacred arts by tutors. This can apply to a wide range of economic statuses, from the children of Lords with private tutors, down to village or city children whose parents pay the cost demanded by tutors of their status. Education is a blend of custom directed learning for the child and a direct passing of the knowledge of the tutor.
While im waiting for Kisame's design,,, do you have any hc for this AU you can share rn?,,,,
Hell yeah i do
Im actually working on he's design right now, so I'll try to finish it today.( ;∀;)
I am sure that the list below will be replenished
And you can actually write me you're ideas ( ´・ω・)
1. Obito
Tobi - In public (Deidara calls him this on a regular basis.).
Madara Uchiha - His teacher's name, which he uses in recitals.
2. Pain - His deputy, his right hand man.
Kisame - A close comrade
Deidara - More often fooling around together.
Conan is Pain's substitute.
3. His team call sign is (tsuki) moon.
4. Retains Toby's identity only under a mask, which he does not remove in public places.
5. Often overworked and tries to do his best.
6. Despite his desire to win, if someone on the team is seriously injured, Obito would rather take care of his comrade than continue the competition.
7. The least discomfort he feels in front of Kisame and Pain is when he takes off his mask.
8. Doesn't like it when Madara is mentioned, or attempts to make comparisons.
9. Catches panic attacks due to his claustrophobia.
10. He needs to be FORCED to rest.
1. Hidan
2. Suffers from various ailments due to his love of licking other people's blood. Kakuzu is tired of paying for his treatment.
3. Almost always walks around naked to the waist. He is always given sweaters and jackets, but he hangs them around his waist or neck.
4. A religious fanatic. (Obviously)
5. Before a round, he applies black paint to certain parts of his body. This is his "ritual", so his god Jashin grants good luck.
6. His team call sign is (kami) god
7. Always called first to perform, especially to wave his fists.
8. Asks Kakuzu to spar with him.
1. Deidara
2. Didn't like wearing big team coats, so they made him a more open, loose design that wouldn't interfere with using techniques.
3.The mouths on his hands are covered with gloves during normal stages.
He even has a zipper on his chest.
4. Always reacts violently to losses.
5. His hands often fall off at the worst possible moment..... which he blames on Kakuzu, not his own thoughtless actions.
6. His team call sign is (bakuhatsu) explosion.
1. Kisame
2. Fish ears...
3. Instead of Samehada, he has a Cricket Bat. (They still look alike)
4. Can perform melee rounds.
5. His team call sign is (Shaku) Shark.
6. Always seems overly violent to other teams, but among Akatsuki he is one of the most caring team members.
7. obvious babysitter for the Uchiha's.
8. cares about the overall health of the team.
9. I also want to give him a shark tail.... Yes.. What are you going to do to me? А?! WHAT?! GO AHEAD AND ATTACK.
1. Kakuzu
2. Usually does not perform, but will join Hidan and Kisame in a melee round if necessary.
3. All of the Akatsuki team's expenses come from his wallet. He allocates resources.
4. Usually patches up other people's wounds when needed.
5. Callsign - (Hatsu) Hearts.
6. Doesn't like solo performances in public, but may take part to blow off steam.
Good news! You aren't required to make your hobbies and passions "marketable." In fact, your crafts, hobbies, and passions don't even need to be public if you so choose. You don't have to spend all of your energy becoming perfect if you aren't enjoying the process. You are not a product, you are a person, a creative, and your work also does not need to be a product.
tbh without eric matthews being a bog-standard shitty cop like. nothing that happened in the course of the saw movies would have happened
if he doesn't frame amanda on drug charges then she never goes to prison, never becomes addicted, never pushes cecil to go through with the robbery that ends in jill's miscarriage
john's terminal cancer is inevitable but without gideons death he has his family and he has a reason to persevere. probably still a classist bootstrappy kind of guy, probably still resentful of those that he thinks don't appreciate their lives, probably not the leader of a small torture cult
and i don't say this to strip amanda or anyone else in the universe of responsibility for their actions, just to appreciate how this reflects the ways the carceral system can radically derail someone's life and create entire networks of suffering
the thing about being a disabled grad student is that if you want even half a chance you constantly have to not only reveal but interrogate and explain your softest most vulnerable parts. while people around you act like this is just completely normal and actually that is not the softest most vulnerable part of you and actually you are exactly the same as all of them. so you feel like you are in disguise as exactlythesame while also completely exposed. and you just have to live like that. absolutely insane
It's crazy that people still uphold show!Sansa as a well-written character and pretend that liking her is the pinnacle of feminism when it would be infinitely more impactful to acknowledge her terrible and misogynistic writing. This is the same character who, while written by two men, was thankful for the abuse she suffered because it allowed her to grow. The same character who we had to be told was smart because the writers were too lazy to develop or show her intelligence. The same character who had to rely heavily on the men surrounding her and ended up accomplishing nothing on her own merit ( and no, thinking that she deserved to be Queen doesn't mean that she earned it). She is not well-written, she is not complex, and she is not a feminist character. Which is fine! If you enjoy her then good on you, but please stop pretending that she's something she isn't just because you feel the need to justify liking her character
#anti got#anti d&d#anti show sansa#anti sansa stans#like literally one of the worst written characters on that show because they tried so hard to make her the most important#while being entirely incompetent and their only method of doing so was to steal from other characters which ruined the plot#the only arguable achievement was defeating LF but even then it's written in the script that she had to go to Bran to explain things#/she rallied the Vale army!/ no she didn't 😭 she wrote a letter to LF and he did everything. instead of showing her arc in the Vale and#her learning about politics to rally them herself they took the quickest route to give her a /badass/ savior scene#which only ended up making her look selfish + power-hungry for putting her brothers' lives at risk for not telling anybody about said lette#and idiotic in the aftermath after relying once again on LF even though he was very obviously manipulating her#/pawn to player/ sounds catchy on paper but without seeing that growth/development it doesn't work#Arya was terribly written but at least we /saw/ her training in a way we never did with Sansa#and people try to apply this same logic to the books and think she's gonna suddenly spring forth as a political mastermind#when that's not how George writes...we see characters develop and make mistakes on page and get actual earned growth#feminism isn't defending the writing of two men who gave her a rape plot not in the books because they thought it was /interesting/#when the only aspect of that plot they adapted was a woman suffering abuse :/#and as per usual with stansas their only /evidence/ of her being well-written is accusing you of being misogynistic if you don't like her
Anyway, if you're one of those people praising Oscar for standing on the top step in his second year compared to how long it took Lando to win, you should be writing Lando a "Thank You" letter for the years he spent slogging through races in a noncompetitive car so Oscar could prance in and capitalize on all that work. 🥰
Also, get well and truly fucked. 🙏🏻
Regarding the whole "Fandom Is An Escape, so why should I have to care this much about misogyny/racism/ableism/transphobia/etc." thing. Idk about the rest of you, but it gets kind of hard for me to "escape" when I keep seeing people say the same vile things about characters who share aspects of my identity that I hear all the time in real life.
#gotta say: it doesn't make me feel any better getting ignored/disparaged on account of my gender irl and then seeing every fictional woman#also get ignored/disparaged when there is no material difference between her and popular male characters other than her gender#how do I escape from irl misogyny if y'all keep willfully ignoring and flinging gendered insults at 99% (<-lowball estimate) of#female characters? how do I put aside the ableism I face in real life when y'all discuss disabled/mentally ill characters in the most#absolutely out-of-pocket way? how do I forget about biphobia when the 'arguments' you make 'for fun' about bisexual characters#in fiction sound EXACTLY the same as the things people say about my bisexuality outside of the internet/fan culture?#and then obviously this gets compounded if you are trying to even simply EXIST in fandom as a poc or a trans person or an intersection of#any or all these varying identities/life experiences#like yes caring about fictional characters is not the same as caring about real people OBVIOUSLY I can't BELIEVE I have to keep clarifying#that. and at the same time!! because multiple things can be true at the same time!!!! engaging in behavior that enforces pre-ingrained#societal biases and prejudices!!!!!!!! does not help dismantle those biases and prejudices!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in a real-world way that DOES#involve caring about actual people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#it's also. interesting. when people go on & on about how some newest show about thin cis white (male) gays is So Important & Revolutionary#So We Must Do Everything To Keep It Relevant And Visible and then act this way about women/poc/trans people/disabled people/fat people#in media. so like. you DO agree that seeing a variety of life experiences represented in fiction is beneficial. you DO believe in the#value of depicting marginalized people. interesting that that only seems to apply to a VERY narrow and specific category of marginalization#(ugh remember when I talked about this and someone called me a straight person good times)
always bugs me when people go like. wildly out of their way to no romo steve and robin's relationship. like. we all get it, we all know it's platonic (with a capital p) but some people seem like. actively worried that steve saying i love you to robin or robin calling them soulmates is going to be read as romantic? like we all make fun of straight people being like haha i love you dude- no homo! and yet everyone is doing it with stobin?
you don't have to be like ooh steve and robin are platonic soulmates! they love* each other (*as friends)! they're platonic with a capital p! you have just say steve and robin love one another, that they're soulmates (if you insist) without tripping over yourself to make sure some weirdo doesn't think you ship them. it's so exhausting to feel as though people have to diminish their relationship or call attention to how ~weird~ it is for a man and a woman to be friends, by specifying that it's not romantic, because we all know! we all know it's platonic!
steve and robin have established IN CANON that there are no romantic feelings between them, that they both understand and accept this, and while other people might not get it, they don't care. they only have to specify to people because the other characters cannot fathom a reason they wouldn't be dating, but steve and robin know, so steve and robin do not have to justify their feelings to themselves, and likewise, we as the audience also know and understand this, so we as the audience do not need to justify that within ourselves either!
it's not weird to tell your friends you love them! like what are we trying to achieve here by saying you *have* to specify you mean it platonically every time? romantic love is not the default, even between a man and a woman, no one is out here reading your fic and getting to a bit where steve is like 'i love robin' and going onto a rage because you didn't go "platonically! it's platonic! obviously i mean it as friends and not as romantic partners!" you shouldn't need to do that! do you fucking go to your friends and go "hey i love you but not in a romantic way" every time? do you go "oh yeah me and my friend? totally platonic. no romantic feelings here between me and my friend"?? i mean maybe but it just screams a lack of trust and understanding idk
go tell your friends you love them but like. be normal about it. because it's not weird to love your friends. jesus.
