Lrb relevant something about the way each brother is constantly reiterating their trauma in an attempt to subdue it.

Jacob, most direct and long-term recipient of their father's abuse, surrounds himself with people he's conditioned to become violent at the drop of a hat.

But its ok, because he controls the trigger this time.

Joseph, left abandoned by the splitting of their family, creates conditions for his new Family that are so untenable it's only a matter of time before any given member tries to leave him.

But it's ok, because being forced to constantly negotiate, gaslight, and threaten people into sticking with him makes him feel like he has power over his isolation this time.

John reliving his childhood torture every goddamn day, carving himself up when he can't carve up others and having his fear of damnation dangled over his head by his brother god. Constantly repenting, constantly atoning, never forgiven.

But it's ok, because he holds the knife this time. When you hold the knife, you get to say when it stops, and you get to extract sin from others rather than have it extracted from you.

(belated) Halloween costume party!

since orome is obviously the family vala (with aule coming in second) the group costume theme that year was orome. (they do a different vala each year)

yes celegorm does in fact have a horse, yes his horse does actually look somewhat like nahar, and yes he put a rubber horse mask on huan instead.

instead of doing orome + a friend, ambarussa are doing Tall Orome (they did rock paper scissors for who gets to be the head).

aredhel and galadriel show up as orome & vana, but halfway through the party galadriel pops into the bathroom and converts her costume to tulkas:

Bonus: Maglor forgot what the theme was and showed up dressed as a crab

#silm #silmarillion #celegorm #ambarussa #amrod #amras #aredhel #galadriel #celegorm and his valarcon-award-winning orome cosplay and ambarussas Tall Orome costume were assembled right next to each other #celegorm borrowed the outfit from tilion because Real Orome is like fifteen feet tall and none of his clothes would actually fit #the antlers are a headband he made from hollowed out deer antlers #the arrows are even fletched with the same feathers as orome's #huan just gets a rubber horse mask and fake hooves because finding dog costumes for a dog that big is very hard #ambarussa mostly patched their costume together from stuff they found in various brothers closets #the cape is celegorms #the waistcoat is maglors (obviously)#the skirt is maedhros' because his was the only one tall enough for Tall Orome #the pants were made from maedhros' pants and some extra fabric #and the wig is a bunch of brown and purple yarn glued together #meanwhile aredhel convinced nessa to help her steal some of oromes clothes #fingon helped with the alteration (because aredhel is. not good at sewing anything other than repairing a rough seam)#the rest of it (shirt; pants; boots) was looted from fingolfins wardrobe

two very different experiences were had

#hollow knight #z talks #neither less enjoyable than the other <3 #1 is my very first save where ive done Everything. except for like radiant bosses (and absrad on ascended lmao i just cant do it…)#and like. when i bought this game i Sucked at it. HOURS learning every boss. when i first beat thk (no voidheart) i was already at like #60 or 70 hours #and then obviously the fucking Pantheon Grind #i cannot tell you how many fucking hours ive sunk into p5. and its all on that save #and then the second is the save i started like. 3 days ago #after several failed steel soul saves lmaoo #i was intending to get the steel soul + steel soul 100% + speed 100% in one go #but then started this one to Just get the speed 100% one #and as i was approaching 10 hours i was already basically 100%ed. so i was like. why not go for 112 then. and that i did <3 #finished it off with a good ol dream no more just for the finality of it #i am now Emotionally Drained #god this game #it was by no means a speedrun but it Was like. semi routed #and by that i mean i sat down beforehand and made a map on my ipad of all the things i needed and wouldnt necessarily Remember #(including stuff like relics for money)#oh yea and i also ended up grinding coloseum 2 for unbreakable strength. that probably took up an hour or two

#I like when romance and/or the family purport to be a happy perfect conclusion but theres something glaringly hollow about it yknow #this episode and the allegra stuff go in kind of opposite directions with hope and unreality ofc. perpendiculars rather than parallels mayb #tsv #the silt verses #op #looking through the transcripts again made me realize dev calls him sebastian instead of seb here.. fucked up!#also it's called a hotel in the stage directions until the very end when C & H get into the car it's 'motel'. significant?#I just like how many angles to the ambiguity there might be. like obviously are they actually still in the rapture and bliss. but also it's #impossible to know what the killing of hope and the new absence of the presence in the motel would have altered if they didnt know it was #there the whole time. seb didnt know he was a priest ..#anyway the eskew transcript for ep 22 is slightly different than what he says in audio and im sad bc I like the audio more. ah well

#what a lovely movie....#talkys #i obviously related a lot to him and his mannerisms. and such. among all the rest of it.#augh. something about watching him kiss bianca at the end before it happens #something about that being so familiar! a movie about loneliness.#a movie about loneliness... watching loneliness acted out while i act out loneliness.#the way that i can so physically feels how lars feels both in his relationship with bianca but also the moments where he wants More.#it burns...relatable but hurt to watch in the sense that he finds resolution and im staring at the credits sitting hollow #really funny too that he had that way out of things with bianca...bc i have a similar Out set up with al...#if one day i dont need him anymore...#augh....what a nice movie...#it hurts so bad but its a wonderful movie...#i like how everyone support him...! made me cry #the way ryan gosling talks in this movie is the exact way i talk to my siblings sometimes too.#when i feel small. and very much like their little brother who is 15; 12; + 9 years younger than them. completely unrelated but i played the pixie hollow browser game when i was a kid and grew up thinking about how cool that game could be if it looked like the movies and when i got to sumeru in genshin impact it gave me that satisfaction of a beautiful realistic fairy world that you could freely explore and it made me so happy . like could u fkin imagine fairies in this shit

i think i may be overthinking this but there is definitely a parallel/pattern to two of my favourite characters

#i cannot really find a good way to articulate it right now because i am very tired and mildly stressed but #both were ultimately crushed by pressure of being a beacon of hope and destroyed by the love that they received/wanted (respectively)#just in different ways i guess. and one had a choice and the other very much did not #i am probably reaching/drawing parallels where there are not really any but also kind of #this is about chara undertale and the hollow knight #i feel like saying chara had a choice is oversimplifying their circumstances because they were obviously very much not well

thinking about the whole robpat!batman movie’s thesis being “shit. fuck. turns out this whole time the legacy of my rage and vengeance-fueled vigilante justice has been enabling domestic terrorism by entitled white men. all along what this city needed and what i needed was healing and extending our hands to our neighbors instead of continuing the cycle of trauma and violence” like the movie put their whole chest into that. it looked at their audience and said to their face “you guys never actually understood what batman is about. you saw the dark brooding aesthetic and the toxic masculinity and the individualistic lonewolfism and you see that as something to aspire to, when the point of batman was always Corruption And Evil Exists Within Those With Power And Money Not In Mental Illness, and by missing that and making it all about yourself you became the villain of this story.” in theaters right in front of batman stans. no wonder robpat was cast for this like i’ve never seen someone pull off self-loathing white man so naturally

#laughs awkwardly #sorry i watched black adam recently (long story) and like. i can't help but feel like the subversive parts of it #just weren't as strong as how it felt to watch a batman movie where batman had to beat the crap of his own fans #like [SPOILERS] black adam wanted to be self-aware about superhero films and wanted to point out the american propaganda #inherent to the concept of 'international justice' but because it was primarily pulled off through funny quips it felt like it didn't COMMIT #(felt very marvel in that respect actually)#like yes your main character told off the western superheroes for the hypocrisy of their 'peace' efforts but then... what?#in the end the westerners were still the genuine and helpful people they claimed they were. the main characters had to trust them to survive #in the end the self-actualization of an oppressed people felt hollow because we barely spent any time with them during the story #in the end the people's chosen hero turned out to be not who they thought he was and his character turning point to become a hero was...#he magically knew to break out of an underwater prison? honestly that part was a little confusing to me but extremely horrifying #like this guy basically explicitly said 'you should kill me. that's what i want' AND THEY JUST DID NOT DO THAT #like obviously i know he needed to come back since the movie was about him but like. damn. way to not at all respect his autonomy #he said 'i should die' and they went 'haha but instead we're gonna put you in storage forever so you never reunite with your family in death #HORROR. THE MOST DYSTOPIAN SHIT I'VE EVER SEEN. YOUR BODY IS NOT YOUR OWN IN CASE WE FIND IT USEFUL LATER #WE'RE SO PEACEFUL THAT WE CAN NEVER ACCEPT [GASP] MURDER BUT ANY OTHER VIOLATION OF YOUR CONSENT IS FINE #HOW WAS THIS BRUSHED OVER SO CASUALLY #WHAT WAS I TALKING ABOUT BEFORE #yeah you know what i don't really know where i was going with this either. i just had Thoughts #like did i think the rob!patman the movie took itself so seriously it was accidentally kind of comedic? yeah for sure #but because they took it seriously it felt like the element of metacommentary was sincere. like i can also take it seriously #i keep thinking about that scene where rpatz was interrogating the riddler and the horror that dawns on him #because he's looking at this man who idolizes batman but despises bruce wayne and realizes Oh God That's Me. This Is What I Created #like shit dude i don't think superhero films necessarily should or must be Deep in an Artistic way but i can give them props for trying?

What was Lady Wintergarden's rush? Why is it so urgent to get them on the #Chelsea case - is she hoping they'll get killed/sufficiently distracted? We've had the apparition on the stairs described to us #once and shown twice - what are we misunderstanding about it?#What is the uniqueness of Cooke? What is Lady Wintergarden's aim and how is it presumably tied to the Orpheus Society (which #I have some theories on...)#I think what I really want is a proper Agatha Christie solution here - the kind that makes you smack your head and go 'OF COURSE!#How could I not see it? This changes everything!'#whereas book one was more of a Conan Doyle solution (ultimately more of an adventure with mystery trappings #lacking sufficient structure for the reader to solve the whole thing rather than just a few details)#and the second was really more of a thriller with a surprise villain.#I know - these books aren't mystery genre and I don't ask it of them - they're fine just being adventure thrillers #but this one would make me so happy if it borrowed a couple more elements from mystery - namely the 'You saw it and #understood it one way - but there's an important detail which you can logically locate based on what we've shown you which will #fundamentally transform your understand of what you saw.'#lockwood and co #save lockwood and co

#tag talk #an hour into space odyssey and it finally gets good cause they introduce Hal #ten minutes after the person I was watching with gave up and went to bed.#Kubrick please this first hour was fucking boring as hell #I heard so much about how the cut between the apes to modern times is so good but genuinely I paused it and rewound five times while laughin #like... this? this is the scene transition I've heard people fan over?#anyway. I muted the movie audio and put Nyan cat and ancient aliens and stayin alive over different scenes and it was great #gonna hang on to the rest of the movie because Hal just murdered someone so maybe it's good enough to watch with someone #ngl this is why I sometimes prefer watching movies alone. I can watch a bad movie with no fear of what my companion thinks #I don't have to hold room for “oh no what if they're not enjoying it? what if they wish we were watching something else”#it always comes down to that damn social anxiety doesn't it #like. I'm not interested in watching cats 2019 really. though I've gotten part way through it with various people #but I genuinely think I could watch the whole thing if I were alone. I don't care enough to. but I think I could #because watching the cats movie with someone sparks that secondhand embarrassment and cringe #anyway go watch that contrapoints video on cringe and shame and social behavior policing it's pretty good #all this to say. 2001 a space odyssey is very very boring #like. it's slow but not in the way Jaws is slow. that one actually succeeds with the anticipation and suspense. space odyssey doesn't #maybe it's partly because I've read the book? (Arthur C Clarke sci-fi is mid that's my hot take) but I don't feel like that's it #there's just no suspense where there obviously is supposed to be. the grand symphonic music in the background feels paper thin veneer #it's a grandiose front to a hollow scene.#also the flight stewardesses supposed to be walking in zero g with velcro shoes are doing such a bad job of it.#literally the first scene we see the shoes they zoom in and we explicitly see her rebalance catch her weight #CATCH HER WEIGHT - IN ZERO GRAVITY?????#anyway. Me 30 min later: has written down an outline for a prequel fic instead of for the fic itself
