The Magician’s Protegee

Both of these stories are near and dear to my heart. Due to life obligations like school in the past, work, convention/merch schedules, I unfortunately haven’t progressed in these stories as I would have liked over the years. My dream is to one day create stories that impact people, as other people’s stories have changed me.

LOST AND FOUND CHILDREN

Synopsis: A search for their missing parents lead twins Flynn and Nate to fall into a deep darkness, unraveling secrets about their family and the country they once trusted.

Lost and Found Children is a story about mystery, overcoming trauma, blood family vs found family, the fear of growing up even in adulthood, the fear that you are not who you wished to grow up to be. The characters explore their identities in a post-war torn society, and witness their love being tested in that wildly changing world.

The story explores the horrors of war, and is also a study on the horrors of child abuse and when child rearing is left in the wrong hands, which can have devastating lifelong consequences. More importantly, it is a story about how love persists despite all odds.

Fun trivia:

The story has changed settings many times, from a tragic Victorian familial drama, to a modern school mystery, a 1920s crime drama, now it’s a historical fantasy.

This is a story I’ve been writing since I was 13 years old. The current iteration is from 2019, and I started revamping it as part of a school project. As it is a very old story that I literally grew up with, revamping it seriously has been a huge task, finding difficulty in deciding whether I should remove, keep, or add things like themes and characters. As of right now, a number of characters are still very much unrefined!

Flynn and Nate are not actually my oldest OCs.

Inspirations:

Growing up, I consumed a lot of Japanese media, and I mix what I learn from real world history with series that have impacted me a lot, like Fullmetal Alchemist, Pandora Hearts, Violet Evergarden. I draw influences from these periods: the industrial revolution in England & the west, late 1800s England, and early 20th century American history, especially the interwar period.

For the character designs, I'm inspired by historical fashion and JRPG aesthetics. My aim is to design them more simply and more humbly (a la Ryoko Kui style), but I still try for a whimsical old world look, bordering on fantastical. I do want a bit more steampunk look to my story moving forward, and that's an aesthetic I need to experiment with and study in my artwork a lot more often.

THE MAGICIAN’S PROTEGEE

Synopsis: In a distant, idyllic future where robots and humans coexist - a healthcare android lives day to day with his adoptive daughter, patients, and their ragtag android and human friends.

The story is a light-hearted, slow-paced, slice of life series - but it will also deal with complex topics like artificial intelligence, existentialism, and the fear of outliving the people you care about the most. THE MAGICIAN'S PROTEGEE IS UNDER HIATUS. (as of Nov 2023)

Fun trivia:

This story used to be about the Victorian occult (hence the title), also about a doctor who saves people from the ghouls that plagued Victorian society. However, without a greater purpose to the story, and only using the setting as a cool backdrop, it was a "monster of the week" series that I didn’t have any interest in writing. I scrapped the Victorian setting, in favour of writing a fantasy world I could fully have control of. It’s very different from LaFC, but it’s also a story I wish to tell from my heart. LaFC is like, the moody night story, and TMP is the sunny day story.

The current iteration is from 2020, also developed for a school project. As I was much older (than 13 haha) when creating this series, I had a pretty clear image of the story and its themes compared to writing LaFC.

Inspirations:

The inspiration for the world building comes from series like Eureka Seven, Kino's Journey, and Aria (Kozue Amano). I also draw a lot of inspiration for world building and writing from American post WWII/cold war society and culture, especially the boom in science fiction and spy fiction. I also take inspiration from early-mid 20th century Hong Kong, China, and Japan for worldbuilding and setting - their visual motifs, response to western technology and changing attitudes and culture.

Felix remembered the Eva of nine years ago, when he saw her off at the airport. Overjoyed at the prospect of seeing his cousin again has made his friends curious about the mysterious cousin. Even more so when she's nothing like he described.

Eva remembers Felix, the only cousin close to her in age, who lit up every room he stepped into. He's the only thing that doesn't hurt about her family anymore. And he's still the same as he was nine years ago, like he had been frozen in time. She's not.

note: this is my first smau so I'm excited to be stepping into unknown territory as a writer. this series is inspired by @hyuuukais "sunshine and strawberries" series, and I definitely recommend giving the series a read!

Ooh, I’ve been dying to ask you, do you remember when you first thought up Eva? Did you have any idea she would explode into the fandom the way she has? I swear she’s canon to me now!!

I came up with her in early 2021 when i was so bored during the pandemic that i was watching everything on netflix. It was the first three seasons of Peaky, the Dance of the 41, Dynasty, and a documentary about Benito Juarez' presidency that mentioned the Batallion of Saint Patrick who were catholics who deserted the us during the mexican american war.

i spent about half of 2021 saying i won't write an oc for this, I'm not even english and i haven't even finished it (i was in s5 by then, but the idea of Eva came when they took what little personality Grace had in s1 and reduced to her to Mrs. Planky Shelby in s3) but then i saw Oka Giner (Eva’s first fc) in La Venganza de las Juanas and said this is Eva (which then was short for Evangelina)

Other inspirations for her were Morticia,Eva (who is the femme fatale of a 1920s mexican film called la tigeresa) who pretends to be poor to seduce a lower class man only to leave him in the dust and drive him insane, and Dolores del Rio.

I had no clue she'd be this popular as ocs of color hardly get readers as a white oc does and frankly, eva is a bit of a mary sue given how overpowered and liked by the canon characters as i made her lol. Eva's popularity was a surprise even if like every fic writer we dream of the fic taking off to great heights.

Hiya Lee, I have a question for you. What do you think Scarlets relationship with Lilith would be like. I have an idea for a fic as I'm writing Lilith stories in little episodes from pre peaky blinders to post peaky blinders and I wanted to know A. If you have an idea what scarlet would feel about her sister given how close Lil is with Tommy and also B. If I can write a little bit for Scarlet now and again. Hi darl, tysm for the ask! I'm thrilled you want to know more about my OC and want to write for her! To answer your questions, I think Scarlett prob has mixed feelings about Lilith. Since Scarlett is older, she obvs loves her younger sibling, but it's complicated bc Tommy has always protected Lilith whereas he never gave that consideration to Scarlett, leaving her to fend for herself. Therefore, there's bound to be tension within the family when they're together. I'm not sure how you see Lilith's relationship to her older sister as one of hero worship or one of neglect seeing as how Scarlett left for was banished to America. I could see it going either way?? It's an interesting dynamic any way you look at it tho!

As for the Halloween costumes, I think Scarlett and Luca would go as a famous couple such as Aphrodite and Adonis bc Tommy and Eva would def indulge little Ruby in a costume party, but it would be done with the utmost class and style! @evita-shelby Don't you agree that they would throw some kind of themed party?

She dabbles in art, playing the guitar and taking care of plants, mainly because of Victoria's influence.

✈️ AIRPLANE — does your oc like traveling, or do they consider themselves a more homey person?

Given that Rosalie's main job is being a freelance Help Desk with no government restrictions or corporation restrictions; Rosalie travels a lot. However, she can be contracted for certain amounts of time but she always requests to be relocated so she can bring her daughter, Eva with her. She has a system and I'll deep dive into this later!

Rosalie's abilities are based on the song My Enemy from the Amazing Spider-Man 2 soundtrack. Not for the lyrics but the instrumentals of it.

Rosalie has the worst temper out of the Atlas' and Claire, she just doesn't show her anger or express it since she has so many resources and methods to keep her anger under control.

Despite her long toxic relationship with Christopher Lockhart, the first person she slept with was Nathaniel Lee, but the first person she experienced foreplay with such as heavy petting, long make-out sessions was @anomalouss 's Mattheo Abbott. (Kat expect a headcanon from this tehehe )

✈️ AIRPLANE — does your oc like traveling, or do they consider themselves a more homey person?

It's implied that being the CEO of Atlas Tech. Victoria does travel for meetings, however being a heavy introvert with a limited social battery, she does prefer being home and getting to decompress with her husband. When she was younger, she did travel more but it wasn't to well-known locations, it was mainly to be in nature and practice her witchcraft since her abilities are heavily based on the elements.

Despite us not completing the thread (that's my fault, man ), Victoria did die by the hands of Seonho's ex-girlfriend but was brought back to life by her mother since it wasn't her time yet. This will be explained in a headcanon later down the line so we can fill in the blanks.

Part of Victoria's introverted traits are based on me yes, but it's also based off of metal musicians! It's off the concept of clean vocals and dirty vocals. The clean vocals being them singing and the dirty vocals being the screaming you hear. It made sense after I heard Courtney LaPlante from Spiritbox and my best friend Jiselle telling me that Courtney sang like a fairy and screamed like a man. I took that joke and turned it to Victoria's personality traits because she THINKS so much, and speaks very little. Her words are soft, even around people she likes and loves but her thoughts are always SCREAMING in her head.

It is part of Victoria's story that she does track down the person who indirectly caused the Witch Hunt on her family and confronts them. In this interaction, we'll see a shift in Victoria's personality and behavior, it effects how she approaches things as an adult. When interacting with Adult!Victoria, she speaks with confidence and is a little less introverted because she overcame a HUGE obstacle in her story.

Cooking and Baking, anything that involves being the kitchen and making something. We'll discuss the baking in the facts!

Working out/going to the gym - it's an outlet for his emotions. The only toxic trait Tyler has is not going to therapy, simply because he's an emotional guy and if he talks about it things go ablaze.

Helping his sisters, defending and protecting them.

Travel HATES traveling, but its mainly because he's a mama's boy (not in a weird way). Given that the Atlas Monarch, Michelle Atlas is a music artist, he missed his mother a lot and hated seeing her go away for tours. He associates travel with being left behind and forgotten. So he likes to stay put in the French Quarter but will travel if need be, such as playing CEO when it's his turn to play CEO.

Tyler is based off of two things, an old fire demon that I made but completely reconstructed and my best friend Gabe who is also referenced for Rosalie's Knight, Gabriel. Gabe is reason why Tyler is mainly into Rap and R&B. Gabe has such amazing music taste ranging from the silliest of things to some tracks that have deep messages. So paying homage to him, Tyler is based off his music taste in some ways but how I wanted the "perfectly imperfect" guy to be. Tyler is just a big mesh of all the important male figures in my life with added features!

Even though Tyler is an excellent cook, he's not the best baker. I imagine that he often texts Sarah Miller ( @unbearablyindifferent ) for help when it comes to baking, given that Sarah gives him jack-of-all-trades vibes when it comes to the kitchen. Tyler can cook ya a 5-course meal, but desserts? baked goods? Yeah, he follows instructors to a T and asks Sarah for advice when he can't understand bakery lingo. ( EXPECT HEADCANONS )

The main story I'm trying to tell with Tyler is; that sometimes all the self-care/mental health tips you get in your life don't apply to every situation. Example being, Tyler doesn't do professional therapy sessions. He doesn't like his emotions, at least the negative ones. I get this idea from my father. He's a U.S. Marine veteran, the man does NOT talk about his feelings. He vents and uses various hobbies to keep his mind off of whatever is bothering him. So I write Tyler having all these hobbies, looking out for other people because it's a way for him to cope. I have written some examples of him almost losing control and you can see he has different methods to calm down. In a thread with @revivedwilcox, Tyler gets triggered by the thought of NPC Christopher Lockhart since he witnessed abuse towards his little sister. Instead of talking about what he was feeling, he just stepped back and sung lyrics that reminded him of a happier time. I want Tyler to be another angle of mental health; that some times you have to find other ways to cope with your problems and it's okay to not do whatever everyone else is doing. As long as you're not harming yourself or others, do what works for YOU.

✈️ AIRPLANE — does your oc like traveling, or do they consider themselves a more homey person?

Ever since Claire became a hybrid and stopped aging at 30, she has taken advantage of traveling, mainly by foot. She has no problem running at full speed in different towns and seeing the sights. In addition, by the time she's an adult, she has come to terms with vampirism and uses her compulsion for materialistic gain. The woman has told people she's jumping on a flight to Paris to stay in the fanciest hotels and living the high life.

Claire is a perfect mix of all three Atlas', the friendliness of Rosalie, the anger of Tyler (due to being a hybrid) and the logic of Victoria. She's the best of all three characters.

During Claire's early twenties 21-25, she is struggling HEAVILY with being a hybrid, however, 26-30, she learns to cope. She sees it as an opportunity to learn more about herself, taking advantage of things she never had and using her abilities to help others. Another reason why she took up being an OBGYN, bringing life is such an important thing to her since her life was taken from her.

Claire's story is about accepting who you are, overcoming your traumas at your own pace, and learning to love yourself. Life events happen and alter everything you had planned. It's the main reason why I had her die on her birthday, it set her back a couple of paces, yes. She had to drop out of college and start a new one, but she was still able to complete her goals. So I use her as a way to let readers know that even if things don't go your way, you'll end up on top one way or another. I still have some more details to work out that's why you'll see minimum interactions and more headcanons because I am figuring it! So stayed tune for Claire updates!
