Phoebe Seiza (later Phoebe Seiza Liu), or Selen, is a character in the Giftedverse. Phoebe is sister to Helios (Sol Seiza), Eos (Akemi Seiza), and Astraea (Emma Seiza). She is one of the many heroes who works for Themis. Her "dayjob" is a fashion designer.

Appearance

When she was younger and before her Gifts manifested, her hair was black.

Phoebe is a slender young woman with dark brown skin, curly dark blue hair with white dots, and brown eyes. In the middle of her forehead is a white crescent moon. She also has black freckles that turn white when she uses her powers. Her hair is meant to resemble the night sky.

On her shoulder is a tattoo of a woman looking up at the moon surrounded by flowers. The woman in question is her fiancee Starshine (Jin Liu).

Her casual wear is dark and consists of a black front tie crop top with a purple skirt, dark purple jacket with a fur collar, and black heeled ankle boots. It is meant to match her night and serene color scheme and also to further contrast her wardrobe to her personality.

Personality

Phoebe is bubbly, enthusiastic, and bright. Full of nothing but positive energy, she always looks on the bright side of things and finds optimism in any situation. This also makes her a morale booster, as she cheers up or comforts others when they're feeling sad. Her optimism and positivity are a driving force for her career as a both hero and fashion designer as she wants people to feel good about themselves whether it be their powers or the clothes they wear.

She cares about others, especially her family and friends. She takes up a nursing role whenever someone is sick or injured-- often watching over her fiancee Jin whenever that happens to them. Phoebe also cares about how they feel and if they're doing ok, especially in a field as perilous and violent as heroics.

Phoebe is both compulsive and impulsive. She does things at random and without warning before she starts doing them repeatedly. This also makes her quite naive to things like strategy and planning, often sticking to something she did on impulse at first and then repeating it.

Phoebe enjoys what she does and makes the most out of her double life.

What are their names?

Currently I'm trying to figure it out, but I do know what I want for the names; Artemis, Diana, Callisto,Phoebe and Selene.

I'm leaning towards naming the Daughter, Artemis and the Mom, Selene. So I'll be calling them that for the rest of this post. Unsure if this will stuck for the rest.

What's their relationship with eachother like?

Their relationship is the rebellious teen and the worried parent.

Artemis would run out into the woods as kid and find a monster of sorts to slay and get the honor of their people. And Selene would look all over for her. Then when Artemis would get home she would be scolded by Selene, as punishment as making her worry, Artemis would have to help out with chores.

When Artemis got older (in her teen years) Selene let her help with making gov decisions. Artemis and Selene's idea of a perfect city are very veryyyy different.

Selene thinks that peace, advising technology, making trades with other cities, and making big changes to tradition is important and makes a perfect city. Artemis on the other hand, wants to honor tradition, and making things stay the same is far more important that anything else. She also wants to be the most feared empress in all of mobus. Artemis is pretty much the embodiment of old roman ideas and values, while Selene is has similar ideas to Roman Scholars. This of course causes fights, but that doesn't mean they don't get along. In fact they have a pretty good relationship. Selene loves helping Artemis train for Olympics, and Artemis lives for helping out mom govern the city. They both respect one another, even though their points of view clash.

But also because of their very different view the people of Mobupinchu start picking sides, I'll get into it bet more in detail later.

Are they specific to the sonic underground universe?

Not really. Mobupinchu is from Sonic underground, but this is like an alternate version of the universe. The universe is like the Saturday AM Cartoon, where princess Sally leads the Freedom fighters.

Mobupinchu it's self is old destroyed Roman city.

It's people praised the moon, and the sun. They city has Greek and Roman architecture. All over the city there are morning glory flowers and symbols of the sun and moon.

They also have many stories, myths, and legends, most where the current mobains don't know is they're true or not, the current mobains have come to agree that most aren't true.

One of their myths is that there's a temple that holds a fruit that can cure everything from any sickness. (This one is important)

Moon represents nature, the hunt, the Olympics , and women. While the Sun represents civilization, medicine and sickness, and men.

The people speak the normal mobus language and Latin.

They live in a Matriarchy, where it also rules like a Monarchy. (They have only had one emperor ever, and he was okay he really didn't do much.) Artemis and Selene are the rulers, making Selene the Empress and Artemis is the Princess. They also have a court system for those convicted of crimes. The person convicted doesn't have to go to trial if they can prove their honor in a quest, but typically not done because it's basically a death sentence, and it's only occasionally done by people who really really want (and typically are) innocent.

But basically everyone else likes Selene and they kinda like Artemis, but they all think if Selene is ever poisoned or killed, Artemis probably did it.

What is their story?

Remember how I mentioned that the people start picking sides on how the city should be governed? Well, there are small group who basically made a cult about Artemis without her knowing. The cult hates Selene, and want her gone.

Well, one day Selene gets poisoned, she doesn't die she just becomes very ill. And everyone thinks it was Artemis, in reality it was one of the cult members. So Artemis is put in trail, of course the cult starts freaking out and causing riots, (remember that myth, told you it was important) and Artemis says she'll go to the temple and get the cure and bring it back to cure her mother.

Artemis then goes on her quest, with a few guards who are fully convinced she did poison Selene, so they hatch a plan to leave her out the wild and come back to Mobupinchu, where they'll tell everyone she got punished by the gods.

So they leave her out in the middle of the Forest, with no food, no water, only her claymore and her armor. In a few months she finally finds the temple, and makes her way inside and gets trapped inside, but no one knew that the time in temple worked differently than the outside world, so while she felt like she had only been in the temple for a few months, she was in there a few years.

While in that time Mobupinchu gets over thrown by robotnik, and everyone in the city becomes robotized, including Selene.

Artemis finally breaks free from the temple, with the fruit in hand, and runs back to Mobupinchu,(the thing about the temple, is that it also mabe her immortal, now this doesn't mean she can't die, she just can't die from natural causes, like a cold or the flu.) but only to see that everyone is gone. And when she learns of the robots, this fuels her hate for technology, but because she has no one else she becomes a nomad, and wonders around Mobius.

In the middle of the forest she find the freedom fighters, she wants to join but they use technology, but they do let her stay. After a while of just living there she eventually starts to understand technology and how it can be used for good, but she only trusts the technology that Sally uses, so she joins them in their fight against robotnik.

it almost seems like you woke up with a smile on your face. 

the giddy feelings from last night hadn’t faded away yet, and you didn’t even feel the inklings of a hangover. it was amazing. 

you rose from your bunk to ‘the only living boy in new york’ by simon and garfunkel playing from the main room of the bus, probably ezra’s doing. in terms of music taste, you were probably the closest to him. of course you liked all types, but ezra was really the only other one who enjoyed that folky-acoustic side. selene and ollie were more rockers than anything else. 

you smiled even wider. you haven’t woken up feeling like this is a while, you were more than happy to bask in it. 

you stumbled into the front room, finding everyone sitting around at the table. selene looked up from her writing, “it’s about time sleepy-head, its like 1pm.” she teased. “says you, it's a miracle you're even up before 3.” you jested back. 

“touche.”

you shot her a cheeky smile, walking over to the fridge to pull out a tiny bottle of apple juice. “you’re such a child, y/n. why don’t you just buy the regular sized ones?” ollie laughed. 

“because it makes me feel like a kid again. my childhood was brutally ripped away from me and tiny bottles of apple juice is the only thing that makes me feel good again.” you deadpanned, both of you breaking out into a stupid smile and a fit of laughter at your sarcastic monologue. most of what you said was actually true, but you liked joking about it more than you liked talking about it seriously. 

“to each their own, i guess,” ollie shrugged, returning to his sandwich with a half-smile still on his face. 

you slid into the chair next to selene, glancing over to what she was scribbling down. 

instead of words, you found a drawing. a drawing of ollie and ezra in the position they were in across from you. 

you nudged her shoulder. “that's really good, love. you should give it to them for their anniversary at the end of the week.” you whispered. she looked over at you with a smile. “that’s a great idea. i think i will,” she said, glancing back over at the scribbles on the paper. 

you took a sip of your juice. “so, what's the plan for today?” you questioned aloud. 

“well, me and ollie were thinking of going to see phoebe bridgers tonight,” ezra said, looking over to ollie. 

“oh sick! i wanna come if you guys are okay with a third wheel.” you said. 

“of course you can come! i think she goes on around 7 so you better have your ass ready or we’re leaving you here.” he pointed an accusing finger at you. 

“sir, yes sir!” you saluted as he rolled his eyes. 

you looked at selene, “you wanna join?” you asked. 

she looked up briefly from her drawing. “uh, no i think i’m just gonna walk around and explore tonight. you guys have fun though.” she said with a smile. 

“okay,” you said with a soft smile, noting that it wasn’t really like her to miss a concert with you guys. you pushed it aside however, knowing she would come to you if anything was wrong. “well, i’m gonna go get ready for the day.” you announced, grabbing your juice and walking off to the bunks. 

you flopped down on the small mattress, opening your phone, but then freezing when you noticed a certain notification, who’s contact name read “jake!”

jake!: my trailer, around 2? i want you to meet the guys :)

oh fuck, you thought, oh god, oh god.

you glanced at the time, 1:36

you jumped out of bed before you remembered you actually had to reply, typing out a hasty, “yeah! getting ready now”

before jumping back up again to file through your suitcases. 

what do you wear to go see a guy who you just met less than 24 hours ago to go to his trailer and meet his brothers? you picked out something but quickly realized it was way too much, before regrouping and giving yourself a mental pep-talk. 

okay. just be casual. wear what you would usually on a regular day, he’s not gonna care, it's fine. you spoke internally while you picked up an old faded woodstock shirt and pair of flowy pants without much thought. 

you threw them on quickly, slipping on a few rings and a necklace. 

you checked your phone again, seeing that it was almost 2pm now. 

you saw a new notification from jake telling you the location of the tour bus, and so you darted out of the bunk room and out into the main one, quickly gathering your things. 

“well, where are you off to?” ezra questioned with a raised eyebrow. you turned around with a giddy smile. “uh, jakes bus,” you smiled nervously. ollie squinted at you, “okay but no funny business, got it?” he scolded. you rolled your eyes, “yes, dad,” you joked as you turned around to finish grabbing your things. 

it briefly crossed your mind that selene hadn’t said a word yet. she’s just invested in her drawing. you told yourself as you focused on getting your necessities thrown in your tiny backpack. 

you rushed out the door shortly after, but not before getting a new bottle of apple juice from the fridge.

you weaved your way through buses, buses and more buses, trying to figure out just exactly where jake’s was. 

for some reason, a part of you just expected to stumble upon one with a big sign reading “GRETA VAN FLEET” but you knew that probably wasn’t the case. although you wouldn’t be surprised if there actually was, from what you heard about josh’s eccentricity. 

your heart skipped a beat as you finally approached a long bus, with jake leaning against the front of it. you felt your body warm up like a freshly stoked fireplace. 

as you walked toward him, you saw he was holding a phone up to his ear, eyebrows furrowed in frustration like he was arguing with someone. 

you stopped a few feet away from him, waiting for him to finish his conversation. he noticed you quickly, muttering “hey, i gotta go, okay? we’ll talk about this later....i love you too baby,” he finished softly, remorsefully, like he wanted to take back everything he just said. 

you felt your heart sink down to your stomach. of course he had a girlfriend, why wouldn’t he? a guy like him would probably have 4 girls on him at once if he weren’t taken. 

you pushed your disappointment down and willed it away. your stupid jealousy that he was in a relationship was not going to get in the way of at least being friends with him. 

you walked towards him as he was hanging up the phone, shooting him a nervous smile. “hey!” he greeted, rushing over and taking you into a hug. 

you were very taken aback, expecting literally anything else other than a hug, considering he just got off the phone with his partner. 

nevertheless, you tentatively hugged him back, looping your arms around his back for a few seconds before he let go. he smiled brightly at you, “uh, so i was wondering if you wanted to meet the boys? i mean your really cool and i think they would really like you ‘cause you're like really talented and-” 

“jake.”

“huh?” he snapped out of his rambling, looking in your eyes hopefully. 

“i would love to meet your brothers, jake.” you reassured. he let out a relieved sigh, running his hands through his hair. “okay! great! uh, they're in here so-” 

“I GOT A WOMAN STAYS DRUNK ALL THE TIME- I SAID I GOT A LITTLE WOMAN AND SHE WANT ME TRUE” three voices interrupted, screaming their lungs out from inside the trailer. you don’t know how you hadn’t noticed before, but now you realized there was also music coming from inside. they were screaming like their lives depended on it, as jake stomped in and screamed back at them “JESUS, SHUT UP A SECOND, WE HAVE COMPANY!” 

at the mention of company, you heard the volume turn down significantly, as jake shared a look with one of them, before he turned back around to you, giving you a smile and gesturing for you to come in. 

you climbed up the bus steps, stepping into the front room as your eyes landed on the three men, all of them smiling awkwardly in your direction. 

you noticed the record player in the corner of the room that was still softly playing, led zeppelin’s “coda” propped up in front of it. 

you snorted at their demeanors, giving a tiny wave their way. 

“guys..” jake said, “this is y/n. i met her last night on my way back from exploring.” he explained, gesturing to you. “ohh, so you’re y/n.” the other long haired one said, eyes narrowed at you with a shit-eating grin on his face.

he had a wild mustache on his upper lip, trailing down into a small beard at his chin. you could honestly almost compare him to the depictions of jesus.

“i’m sam,” he introduced, standing up to take your hand. “jake’s told us a lot about you,” he said, wiggling his eyebrows. 

you turned to look at jake with raised eyebrows, “so he has?” you said, turning back around to take sam's hand. “it’s nice to meet you,” you said, noticing his eyes soften from his sarcastic nature to a more genuine one. “and you,” he replied, before sitting back down next to another one of the boys. 

jake gestured to the one sitting on the couch. “this is-” “josh. i’ve seen you before,” you teased. he gave you a charming grin, standing up to shake your hand just as sam did. 

“well, i hope you’ve heard good things about me.” he smirked, taking your hand in his with a gentleness similar to jake’s. “just about,” you replied, giving him a warm smile and turning to the only other boy left. 

he quickly stood up and engulfed you into a hug, and you couldn’t resist hugging back just as tight. he had such a welcoming manner about him, you felt completely safe in his embrace. 

sam laughed, “and that's danny.” you pulled back with a smile. “well, hi danny,” you said, eyebrows raised with an amused smile. “sorry about that,” he apologized, “i tend to do that with sorta everyone.” he explained. “no, no you're fine!!” you actually found it really endearing, his entire manner and how he was so willing to just take someone in his arms. 

jake cleared his throat, “so uh, these are the guys!” he said, trying to find something to break the semi awkward silence with. “cool!” you replied, taking a seat on the floor in front of josh. 

jake looked at you curiously. “what? i like sitting on the floor,” you shrugged, taking a sip of your apple juice. “okay then, i’ll sit on the floor too,” he challenged, moving to take a seat on the other side of josh’s legs. 

“so, what band are you in?” sam inquired. “oh uh, i’m the lead guitarist and vocalist for a band called velvet eyes. we do mostly psychedelic rock type stuff but we’re kind of all over the spectrum.” “dope!” danny said, “can we hear some?” he asked eagerly. 

“oh, uh- sure!” you stuttered. you’d never had someone request to actually hear your music before. you’d usually just tell them what genre you play, they would pretend to act interested and then the conversation would move on. they all actually seemed genuinely interested though, so you pulled out your phone and searched up your band on spotify. 

for the next 20 minutes, you all sat through and listened to some of your favorite songs you’ve made, telling them stories about the songs in between. all of them seemed so invested and truly impressed, something you didn’t get a lot of unless you were on stage. but here, in this close, intimate moment, being shown appreciation felt like the best feeling you’ve ever experienced.

after you were done, they all rushed to say their compliments at once, you laughing at their boyish behavior and telling them to all calm down. 

“one at a time please!,” you laughed, amused at their eagerness. 

sam went first- “so i really love what the keyboardist is doing- that organ solo was insane, nothing like i’ve ever heard before. it takes some serious work to do that. but especially the bass lines- y/n let me tell you i’ve never heard basslines like that in my life. whoever your bass player is, is INSANE because even i can’t imagine making my fingers go that fast. the whole thing is just- extraordinary. that was amazing y/n, you guys are amazing.” 

you blushed and laughed shyly, thinking of what ezra and selene would say. “yeah, they're really great. all of us have worked so hard to be here.’ 

“i can definitely tell.” josh said. you smiled warmly at him while you listened to all the others give their compliments.

somehow, a few hours later, you found yourself up on a cliff with jake, overlooking the entire festival grounds. 

after texting ezra that you probably weren’t going to make it to the phoebe concert, you followed jake up a steep path snaking around the sandy mountain. he had said the view would “knock your socks off,” and who are you to deny him?

“so this is what you meant by ‘i know a spot’, huh?” you teased. 

he gave you a grin, sitting down on the rocky ground, legs dangling off the cliffs edge. you copied his actions, leaning back on your hands and taking in the view. 

“don’t worry, you're the only other person i’ve taken here,” he reassured. 

“wait, you’ve been here before?” you questioned. 

he turned to you with a wide smile. “we come here every year. kind of like a tradition. i found this spot when i was checking out the grounds for the first time. it was a pretty rocky climb at first but, it seems like the path’s smoothed out over the years. i love to just come here and... look.” he explained. 

you smiled a warm, affectionate smile. “well then i’m honored i get to be the first person other than you to be here.” 

he breathed a laugh through his nose, turning his head back to the sun peeking over the desert’s horizon. you both sat in silence for a few minutes, humming along to whatever song was playing from your phone. 

after a bit, he turned to you, his face glowing in the golden, bronzing sunlight. “i know i only just met you, so this might be a weird thing to do, but, can i ask you a question?” you straightened a tiny but, preparing yourself for what he was about to say. “of course, anything.” you smiled, encouraging him to go on. 

he huffed, and you could tell he was contemplating how he should go about his words.

finally, he said them.

“why are girlfriends so... difficult, sometimes? like, i don’t mean difficult per say, it's just- she won’t listen to what i’m trying to say...” he trailed. “i mean i love her, i do.” he said with furrowed brows, and a hint of hesitation in his voice. “but i can feel us breaking. and i don’t want it to end like this. and like, i know this is a lot to put on you so early in our friendship but i mean, you're kind of the only other person i can talk to about this besides my brothers. they all say the same thing-” “break up with her?” 

“...yeah.”

“do you think they're right?” 

“no! i don’t want to break up with her i-” he put his head into his hands. “i don’t know y/n. it kind of seems like maybe i would finally feel free if i did.” he confessed, his body deflating like a big weight had been lifted from him by saying those words. 

you put a reassuring hand on his back. “look, i’m not gonna tell you what you should or shouldn’t do jake. but, i think deep down, you know what you should do. whether that be to break up with her, or figure something else out. you know deep in your soul what to do. even though it may not be what you want to do, you know it’s what you should do. you know what’s wrong and what’s right.” you said, leaning into him the tiniest bit. he took his head out of his hands, turning to you and smiling sadly. 

“you’re really good with words, you know that?” he said, his eyes glinting in the setting sun. you rested your head on his shoulder. “i’ve been told that a few times,” you grinned, looking up at him. 

your faces were so close, it would be so easy to just inch forward the tiniest bit, and touch your lips to his. you had enough self-control to refrain though. he has enough shit to work out already, don't add on to it.

you were both broken out of your trance by a commotion coming from below you. squinting down, you saw that coincidentally, you were directly above the stage that phoebe bridgers was performing on. you gasped, jumping up and excitedly looking at jake. 

“i told ezra and ollie i was gonna go with them to see her but i had to bail! it looks like i didn’t miss it after all,” you grinned. 

you screamed loudly as you heard the opening chords of ‘kyoto’ ring up and out from the stage. you took jake’s hands and swung his around, dancing wildly with him wheezing out laughter at your actions. 

he danced along with you through the whole set, only stopping when she started playing ‘i know the end’, slowing down and catching his breath. he never took his hands out of yours though, simply leaning forward to rest his forehead on your shoulder.

you giggled and rested your head on his, closing your eyes and breathing in the moment. “i’m really glad i met you, y/n,” he mumbled, so quiet you almost couldn't even hear it. you smiled, a small, content smile. “i’m glad i met you, jake.” you replied, wrapping an arm around his neck. you teo slow danced for a bit until eventually the song sped up, the instruments getting heavier and all of a sudden it stopped and everyone at the bottom of the cliff screamed

you screamed it too, jumping out of jakes grasp and jumping around wildly, losing all concern for how stupid or crazy you looked. but he simply watched. he stood there, arms crossed, grinning like he was watching the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen unfold before his eyes. 

and in his mind, he was.

the rest of the night was spent with your head in jake’s lap, fingers threading through your hair and scratching your scalp while music from your phone played softly in the background. 

you talked about everything. everything and anything and nothing and all things in between. it seemed as though not a topic went undiscussed. 

there was no care for what time it was, or the places you had to be. just each other, and the desert. and as cliche as that might sound, it’s true. not a word was spoken about responsibilities or plans, not even a question of “hey, what time is it?” 

there was no regard for anything except each other.

eventually you started to get sleepy, and you think it was around the time you heard ‘terrapin’ by syd barrett come on. 

your conversation had dwindled down to not even words, but simply the movements of his fingers in your hair and yours drawing shapes on his legs. 

the last thing you remember registering was syd’s voice, and a very distant voice, so far away you were sure it was just a disembodied voice from your oncoming dreams, whispering ‘i love you’

I & J for the ask game!

(Answering generally for my OCs)

I) Do you prefer to keep them in their canon universe?

Yeah. Generally my characters are shaped enough by the universe they're in that I feel like I'd be losing something, making them a different character, just by moving them. That said, I like to think about what those crossovers would look like but not enough to seriously pursue the idea, or develop those new characters beyond musings.

J) Did you have to manipulate or exclude canon factors to allow them to create their character?

This one applies more to my destiny/video game OCs broadly than ttrpg characters, since canon is obviously malleable for ttrpg campaigns....

Yes, I usually have to manipulate canon to make my OCs work. Going back to the days of like, Fallout 4, I shifted around aspects of my Sole Survivor's backstory to make it personally compelling to me.

As far as Destiny goes, I very much consider canon to be playdough and me to be the kindergartner pushing it into whatever shape I please. (I suspect this is how Destiny is actually written, so perhaps its a fitting homage.) Generally I keep the canon chain of events, but my character's reactions, role in the story, and motivations are often not the ones assigned to the "Young Wolf"/"Guardian"™ by the narrative.

For example, I have no guardian who's been involved in every plot thread like The Guardian™. Selene was more motivated to restore peace to the Reef than avenge Cayde in the events of Forsaken. Lilith didn't obtain stasis willingly in the events of BL. Phoebe doesn't interact with the Darkness, period.
