Obviously Sometimes You Hear the Bullet is the most important S1 episode in terms of setting the tone for the rest of the show, but I think that Ceasefire should be studied in political science courses. Because like... honestly, I think it might be the bravest episode MASH ever produced.

I don't really have a thesis statement or anything beyond uncollected thoughts, but listen:

In my opinion, Ceasefire is the most direct and timely political commentary the show ever made. Yes of course MASH uses Korea to talk about Vietnam, but the amount of time the show and the war actually overlapped is pretty brief. The last US combat troops left Vietnam four days after the final episode of season one aired. So season one was the show's diciest era, politically, and Ceasefire takes a targeted potshot directly at Richard Nixon.

In October of 1972, facing certain and overwhelming reelection as president, Nixon made a transparent ploy to boost his popularity even further by having Henry Kissinger announce that "peace is at hand" in Vietnam (Kissinger's choice of words, and Nixon was furious about it because everyone involved in the negotiations knew the negotiations were about to fall apart). Then, in December, Nixon secretly conducted the "Christmas bombing" campaign in which over 20,000 tons of bombs were dropped over North Vietnam. The Paris Peace Accords were signed in January 1973, with the exact same terms the US had proposed in October - aka, the bombing had accomplished nothing.

My dad, who was a long-haired college student in 1972, says that when he heard Kissinger say "peace is at hand" all he could feel was overwhelming disgust - it was so obviously designed to win Nixon re-election, and so obviously not true, that he didn't even feel a spark of hope. He just felt angry.

I think that Trapper in this episode represents people like my dad. I think Ceasefire offers the viewing audience a chance to sort of rage at the absurdity and pointlessness of the last few months of the Vietnam war. And I think that's really fucking brave considering that the head of CBS, William Paley, was being personally threatened by the Nixon White House to shut the hell up about Watergate.

To me, the fact that a show which had struggled ratings-wise for its entire first season, fought constantly against CBS's censors and higher-ups to be allowed to tackle more serious topics, and aired on a network being targeted by the men running the war it criticized chose to celebrate being renewed for another season with targeted (if veiled) political commentary is... kind of nuts. And I think Ceasefire stands as a message from the MASH creative team about what to expect from the next ten seasons: "fuck you, we're going to say what we want."

MISANO 2020: Franky’s 2020 Misano helmet paid tribute to Spike Lee’s iconic film Do the Right Thing, a powerful exploration of racial tension and social justice. Amid a year marked by global protests and urgent calls for equality, Franky’s design stood as a bold statement against injustice. On the back, the word “Equality” appeared in multiple languages, underscoring a universal demand for fairness and unity across cultures.

Do the Right Thing, directed by Spike Lee in 1989, is a landmark film that explores racial tension, systemic inequality, and community dynamics during a sweltering day in Brooklyn. Known for its vibrant style and unflinching social commentary, the film remains profoundly relevant decades later. After winning the 2020 Misano race wearing the tribute helmet, Franky received a phone call from Spike Lee himself.

VALENCIA 2021: In 2021, as Valentino prepared to retire from full-time racing, each member of the VR46 Riders Academy chose one of his iconic helmet designs to recreate as a tribute. Franky selected the 1999 Mugello Peace & Love helmet. With its colorful design and cartoon Rossi firing flowers instead of bullets, the helmet became a bridge across generations, celebrating not just a racing legend, but a philosophy rooted in joy, rebellion, and peace.

Because each academy member chose their tribute helmet independently, their selections offered a glimpse into their personal taste and values. The designs they picked weren’t just fan favorites, they reflected what each rider connected with most deeply in Valentino’s long and expressive career. Whether it was humor, protest, nostalgia, or creativity, each helmet told a story, not just about Valentino, but about the rider who chose to wear it.

The official poster for the 1969 Woodstock Music & Art Fair has become one of the most iconic images of the counterculture era. Designed by Arnold Skolnick, it features a simple yet powerful graphic: a white dove perched on the neck of a bright red guitar, set against a calm blue background. In Japan the next release is BT-20 Booster Over the X!

We got some previews of what to expect! With Tamers from Digimon Chronicle and Chronicle X, Digimon Seekers, and Digimon Liberator, as well as Alphamon Ouryuken Ace and Zephagamon Ace!!

The Special Booster Ver. 2.5 will include serial cards WarGreymon & MetalGarurumon!

There will be a Celebration Event for Special Booster Ver. 2.5 The Event Period is February 21 - March 7, 2025 and all players will receive a BT20-090 Yuuki alt-art as a prize!

Here's another look at the first wave of official sleeves for 2025!

Next we have the illustration and logo to commemorate the global unification of the Digimon Card Game release! This included the Japanese, English, and Simplified Chinese releases.

The Release dates for the next Starter Decks, ST-20 Protector of Light and ST-21 Hero of Hope have been revealed to be April 18, 2025!

These Starter Decks will include double tamers for the Adventure cast, as well as "Scramble" cards of all colors with new artwork!

There will also be a Release Event encouraging people to introduce friends to the game!

Next up, the release date of BT-21 World Convergence on April 25, 2025!

This set will once again include Digimon and Tamers from all anime seasons, but now including Digimon Universe Applimonsters!

Now we also finally got to see the new [Link] keyword! This effect reads as follows, in this case for [Appmon] trait: Cost 1 (Plug this card from the hand or battle area sideways into the specified Digimon in the battle area.) In the case of this Gatchmon card, this will give the linked Digimon an extra 2000 DP!

BT-21 will also include Owen Dreadnought and Elizamon, and Zenith and Vemmon from Digimon Liberator!

We will also get the previously announced signed cards, and now get a look at the artist's signatures!

Next up, BT-22 Boster CYBER EDEN, a long awaited Cyber Sleuth set! This will be Aiba Ami's debut to the card game! Scheduled to release July 25, 2025!

The Third of October

Summary: Abby Langdon's intended weekend of relaxation gets thrown out the window when she has to go to the Pitt for a scary respiratory incident. Also on AO3

Notes: This is heavily inspired by my own experience being hospitalized last year - as such, I've basically cast myself as Abby here - heavy-set, White, two successful pregnancies but the occasional complications. The folks who took care of me in my doctor's office and the ER were great, but the experience was still harrowing. Thankfully, my husband WAS able to be with me as much as possible, and both sets of grandparents were a huge help with the children. This is set a few weeks after Season 1.

Warnings: descriptions of medical/respiratory distress, medical testing and procedures, bodily fluids, concerns about mortality, trying to avert a panic attack. I'm attempting to be realistic, but I know there was stuff going on while I was being treated that I was never actually privy to.

Thursday October 3rd, 2024.

Abby has dealt with her share of coughs, colds, and other respiratory nonsense, so she’s being sincere when she waves off her mother’s worries. “Mama, it’s ok,” she promises. “I’ll be able to rest since you and Dad are taking the kids this weekend, and I’ve got a follow-up appointment back at Direct Care in about an hour.”

Joan Green leans against her daughter’s car door, worry still dotting her face. With how pale Abby is, the bags under her eyes are even more obvious. “If you say so…” Abby had stayed over with the children at her and Peter’s house the night before, and Joan had heard the coughing keeping Abby awake.

“I do,” Abby says, giving Joan a hug. “Just don’t let Tanner and Chrissy watch too much TV?”

Joan hugs her back tight, but she backs off when Abby starts coughing again. “No promises, dearie – but we’ll make sure to get the dynamic duo out to the park for a bit.”

Abby smiles even through the coughing, and when she catches her breath, she nods her understanding. “Maybe it’s good timing that Frank’s already checked in – he can focus on his program, and I can focus on resting.”

If Joan is annoyed by the mention of her son-in-law starting at rehab the day before, she doesn’t show it. She simply squeezes Abby’s hand for good luck, and she waits to go inside the house until she sees Abby’s Honda pull off from Chateau Lane, heading to the highway.

Abby’s annoyance is like humidity clinging to her skin as she drives south out of Butler on PA 8. It’s a beautiful autumn day, and she wishes she wasn’t losing it to this damn lingering cold. The cough has been with her for nearly three weeks now – it showed up soon after Frank confessed to her what he’d been doing at the hospital.  However, she’d been pushing through – coordinating with Robby and her parents to make sure that Frank could get into care and that the kids would be ok.

She’s proud of her effort, but she suspects that all that running around wasn’t helpful. She’s always been plump, and she knows that even if she were slender, her exercise regimen has gone to shit since Chrissy was born. Point being, her lungs are not what they used to be.

That annoyance morphs into concern as she passes the 228 turnoff – she realizes that her breaths have been shallow, and a slight bump in the road jolts her like someone slapping her right in the chest. Ok, not a problem yet, but good thing she’s getting to an appointment anyway….right?

Over the next fifteen miles, it’s like someone reaches into Abby’s head and chest and starts slowly tightening a vice…or even a noose. The coughs are coming more quickly now, and after each cough, Abby swears her head and chest are going to burst into flames from lack of oxygen.

By the time she gets to the bridge over the Allegheny, her world has shrunk to herself, her car, and her destination. All she can think of is that she has to get Direct Care so that she doesn’t pass out.

As she drives past the back side of the zoo, she prays that she doesn’t end up hurting anyone – thankfully the traffic lights end up being in her favor.

She’s not sure how she even remembers to lock her car when she parks in the Direct Care lot – hell, she doesn’t know how she’s staying on her feet as she stumbles into the building. Her heart is pounding in her ears, her guts are twisting, sweat is pouring down her face…  it’s only with assistance from Roseanne, the desk clerk, that she’s able to get to a bathroom before she throws up.

To her credit, Roseanne asks only very basic questions. Her main focus is on getting Abby into a wheelchair and upstairs to a spare room. There a nurse named Pam takes over and evaluates Abby’s sats – both Pam and Abby stare in shock as they see her O2 sitting at only 84 percent.

Pam has Roseanne grab an oxygen tank and cannula for Abby, and then her next call is to 911 to get Abby to the nearest available ER.

Given the date, Robby figures that the first ambulance arrival of the day shift will be someone coming from the Oktoberfest parties on Market Square – in fact, staying ahead of that is why he asked Shen to be with him on day shift today. He’s taken aback when Perlah calls out from the desk – “Robby, Shen, ambulance transport from Direct Care on South Highland, respiratory distress!”

“What’s our ETA?” Robby asks.

“Five minutes!” Perlah is already up from the desk and signaling Princess, Donnie and Kim to help her get ready.

Shen doesn’t look troubled, but neither Perlah nor Robby miss the confusion in his voice when he asks, “They’re coming here? I thought UPMC Magee was closer to that side of town…”

“It is,” Princess says as she tightens one of her hair ties. “But I bet that we have more space right now, for however long that lasts.”

The “kids” are all circulating with their various residents, but it’s Santos and Whitaker that have just come off a case. Robby calls them both over to assist – depending on the patient’s situation, he suspects he’ll need the extra hands.

When the ambulance pulls up, Medics Ziggler and Harley start unloading their patient. Perlah rolls her eyes a bit seeing Harley, but she still walks over, Whitaker and Santos and the other nurses trailing behind her.

The patient could be any random Yinzer you might see on the street – a short, distinctly plump White woman with dark hair and tired brown eyes. She has an albuterol mask on her face and those same dark eyes are scanning wildly around. Perlah can practically taste the anxiety rolling off of her. Every now and then she coughs in obvious pain.

“What do we have?” Perlah asks, and Ziggler pulls out an I-pad with her treatment notes.

“Abigail G. Langdon, 33 – severe respiratory distress when we picked her up from Direct Care. We got her on the albuterol in the ambulance, it’s keeping her in the low 90s.”

“Langdon?”  Whitaker asks. He and Santos look at each other, both raising their eyebrows. The name must be coincidence, right?

Alas, no such luck, and Robby speaks for almost everyone present when he asks, “What the fuck happened??”

“Has anyone called Frank?” Shen asks Robby out in the hallway. Abby has been set up in Central 7, and Robby and Shen are giving Perlah and her team room to work, along with the gang from Respiratory Therapy.

Robby shakes his head. “Ambulance team left a message, but he’s been admitted less than 48 hours, he won’t have phone access ‘til tomorrow morning at the earliest.”

“Shit.” Shen looks around Robby’s shoulder and winces sympathetically – Donnie is attempting to place Abby’s IV ports in each arm, and Shen can see the tears running down Abby’s face from the multiple needle pricks. Donnie is usually able to place an IV in one shot, and Shen can only guess that Abby must be incredibly dehydrated if Donnie can’t find her veins. “So who do we call next?”

“Not sure,” Robby admits. “She’d mentioned to me a few days ago about having her parents watch the kids anyway, so I think they’re off the table. Just…” He scratches the back of his head, trying to think. “Just try to keep an eye on her case, yeah?”

“Will do, brother.”

Abby doesn’t know that she’s ever felt so off-kilter in her life. Nurse…Donnie was his name?.. has been able to place her ports, finally, and she’s had her first rounds of albuterol and antibiotics. However, the blood blisters are creating weird patterns on her pale skin, almost as if someone drew on her with a red sharpie marker.

She keeps wanting to close her eyes, like a good few hard blinks will have her waking up from this nightmare back home, where Frank would be there to tell her that she’s ok. Even with the pain from the IVs, Abby’s thoughts keep cycling along the same treadmill: “This can’t be happening…why is this happening…I guess this is happening but it can’t be…” Underneath all her worry, she can’t escape the feeling that she may have been closer to death than she knew.

It doesn’t help that while she had a rush of people around her earlier, the observation room is now empty. She’s heard more ambulances coming in – what if they forget about her? She got here at 10:30, and it’s now after 3 pm…

No one has forgotten about Abby, they just know that she’s stable enough that she can be left alone a moment. The OktoberFest crush started to roll in about thirty minutes after Abby’s arrival, including several cases of severe dehydration.

As such, when Shen recommends that Abby be put in line for a CT scan of her chest, instead of going herself, Perlah calls out to Santos in Tagalog: “<Trinity, you and your roomie get Abby a pregnancy test so we know if she can have her scan! Get her COVID swab too while you’re at it.>”

“<On it>,” Santos responds, and though Whitaker doesn’t speak the language, he knows an order when he hears one. He falls into step behind Santos as she grabs a urine sample collector cup and a nasal swab, and they stroll as quickly as they can to Abby’s room without running.

“Hi, I’m Doctor Santos, this is med student Whitaker – is it ok if he’s in with me on this?” Santos asks – admittedly, with more bravado than she’s feeling. Abby’s eyes light up in recognition, and Santos braces for the worst.

“I’ve heard your name, Dr. Santos – or should I call you Trinity?” Abby’s tone is kinder than Santos expected.

“…what else have you heard?” Santos asks.

“My husband may have creatively cursed your name and future progeny when he first got home from the Pittfest aftermath.” The less Abby says about that night, the better – Santos does NOT need to know how bad Frank’s ranting got. She seems nice enough, if a little aggressive. “To answer your other question, yes, Whitaker can be in on this.”

Whitaker smiles at Abby genuinely, and she smiles back. “We’ll take care of you, Mrs. Langdon, don’t worry,” he says.

“What does bring you two in here anyway?”

“Dr. Shen wants you to get a CT scan of your lungs, and we need to make sure you aren’t pregnant before you get rolled back to imaging, and we gotta check to see if this is COVID or flu or something else.” Santos holds on to the sample cup, and she passes the nasal swab to Whitaker. He looks nervous only for half a second, and then he helps Abby remove her cannula so he can swab her nose. After that, unhooking her from the IVs so she can go to the bathroom seems comically easy.

Abby is not afraid of urine collection or blood draws - after all, she’s carried two children, and when her blood pressure spiked with Chrissy, she needed a check of protein in her blood twice a week . However, as she tries to position herself to take her sample, she can’t quite reach where she needs to be, and the twisting is making her breathing difficult.  On top of it, even though she hasn’t eaten anything since this morning, her stomach feels like it’s about to rebel again.

Santos and Whitaker have been waiting outside the bathroom to give Abby privacy, but the noise of her struggle is unmistakable. Santos knocks on the door – “Mrs. L, you ok in there?”

“No, please help, I can’t do this!”

Santos pushes the door open (thank fuck it wasn’t locked) with Whitaker right on her heels. Poor Abby looks like she’s going to faint either from panic or from lack of oxygen, and Santos grabs the collection cup from where Abby placed it on the sink. Whitaker takes Abby’s hand and helps her sit back down, and Santos takes the sample once Abby’s ready.

After the collection and everyone getting cleaned up, Whitaker and Santos get Abby back to her bed and reattached. “Thank you both,” she says. “I know that sort of thing is really undignified.”

Whitaker shrugs. “I grew up on a farm, I have seen MUCH worse.”

“It had to get done, and now we can know next steps,” Santos says. “Whitaker and I will run these back to the lab, you just hang tight and get your sats back up, yeah?”

Santos intentionally waits until she and Whitaker are out of earshot before she asks, “Ok, her sats got really low just in those few minutes, right?”

Whitaker nods. “Yeah, down to 88.”

“Damn it,” Santos mutters. “Sounds like pneumonia or worse.”

The pregnancy and COVID tests come back negative, the CT is done, and Nurse Kim pulls the results together to present to Shen. He can’t say he’s surprised when the CT does show pneumonia in the second lobe of her right-side lung. Combined with a comment in her chart about having had pre-eclampsia, he opts to not take any chances.

After having Kim give Abby a non-rebreather mask, Shen calls up to the ICU: “Hey, Maddox, it’s Shen down in the ER – how soon would you have a bed for a pneumonia patient?”

Robby has been in the weeds for a few hours now, and he does a double take when he sees Abby’s current set-up. Shen has just gotten off the phone, and Robby waves to him, asking him to catch him up.

“Non-rebreather on Abby Langdon?” Robby asks. “Has she had a downturn?”

“Not really, but I don’t want to take any chances – even if she were thin, she’s got complicating factors in her history, I just asked Maddox if he could take her.”

“What'd he say?”

“That he’ll have a room, but it’s going to be at least five hours before it’s open – and he asked if we were going to intubate.”

“So what did you say?”

“That I would call him back. For what it’s worth,” Shen says, “Her sats are great on the mask, she’s back up to 98 percent, and she seems less agitated.”

Robby’s expression turns thoughtful, and Shen asks, “What did you have in mind, brother?”

“Well, keeping in mind that she’s your patient and not mine – do you think we can manage to have her in a regular room? Esme’s team has been able to get ahead of the curve and clean a big batch of rooms on the fifth floor. And I know you said she’s less agitated now, but you know as well as I do that intubation is an agitating process – if we can find a way to skip it, I think we should.”

“Yeah, no kidding,” Shen admits. Referring to the computer, he says, “Respiratory is going to be back with her in 30 minutes for her next round of albuterol – if I take her off the mask now, put the cannula back in place and her sats are still steady, I’ll see if they’re comfortable having her in a non-ICU room.” Ideally, they should be able to do the handoff before the end of shift.

The cannula works just fine for Abby and Respiratory is ok with her room assignment…but the timing of it doesn’t work out as Robby and Shen had hoped. Even with Esme and the other members of Environmental Services doing their fastest work, transferring Abby is taking longer than intended, and it’s now after 7 pm.

Santos and Whitaker are getting ready to go home, but as they start walking out, they see the board still showing Abby waiting for her room. “Trin,” Whitaker asks, “we’re both off tomorrow – you think we should keep Mrs. Langdon company until her room’s ready? I think she might need it.”

Santos gets that look on her face where she knows what the right thing to do is, even if she doesn’t necessarily want to do it. She sighs and says, “Yeah, Huck, we probably should. We did promise to take care of her.”

The company does end up being exactly what Abby needed – even with knowing that she should be moving soon, the isolation has been getting to her. Now that she’s a little less anxious, she shows Santos and Whitaker pictures of her kids, and they confirm with her that her parents have been kept in the loop.

It’s finally about 9 pm when Abby can go upstairs – Ellis has gotten in, so she leads the merry caravan and presents to the upstairs night attending. The nurses help get Abby into bed, and Santos and Whitaker make sure she knows where the remotes are for the TV and the lights. Santos even plugs Abby's phone in for her where she can reach it.

Finally, FINALLY, Abby can sleep, even with the sats check-ins and albuterol treatments, and she can’t deny the relief she feels when she wakes up around 7 the next morning to a voicemail from Frank.

I did write that, it's less a cunty powerpoint and more forty pages of compiled tumblr posts with a multi-thousand word count; it's linked in the pinned post of this blog and if you go to ms-demeanor.com one of the bullet points on the main page is "PDF resources" and it is linked there along with the death book and some other stuff.

Hazbin Hotel||Alastor X Reader||When You Are Under the Weather||Sickness Comfort

It's a pure torture to be unable to do your usual chores or take care of yourself the tiredness is overwhelming. So, take it Easy. Though, I know the illness would recover if Alastor was there in your room.

You didn't ever feel the need to be worried about your body needing extra sleep, because the tiredness was overwhelming, or your body failed to perform the chores it usually did.

The Early October season, your father would run to the supermarket, to pick out medicine, and get fresh herbs to feed you green tea every evening, or if it got too bad you would drink them two times a day.

It was like he expected you to catch the virus. Well, that much hasn't changed, how nostalgic. But you really wished after in hell, your body would develop the immunity after being in a place that is clearly not for comfort.

You had gotten really lucky on that note also, really grateful for that. Alastor, ever the charmer.

He took really good care of you, it would sometimes strike worry that he is a sinner demon those red eyes, his sclera, irises are a proof of how many souls work under him.

But you had never found such a safe place than in his arms, although he isn't always for physical assurance.

"No, I'm not going anywhere today My dear, my schedule is all cleared up, maybe later in the evening to treat the sinners to a broadcast, but other than that I'm all yours." Alastor, changed the cloth on your forehead, "It's such a lovely thing the age-old napkin dipped in cold water to ease the heat!" He commented,

"Alastor?"

"Yes, my dear?"

"I'm a little hungry..."

"Say no more My dear, although you did worry me when you refused to eat my well-cooked dish this morning."

You heaved a sigh of relief, he was astonishingly patient, it made your heart feel like a swarm of butterflies danced there, it also made your stomach sink a little when you felt like you were bothering him too much."

"My dear, sit up now." He instructed,

You pushed yourself, still feeling your head pound bullets, you received the cream soup with a grateful smile which made Alastor push your hair behind your ear,

"I'm really sorry for bother--"

"Nonsense my dear, it doesn't feel too good seeing you in such a weak state." He honestly replied.

The day passed, by watching some movies despite, Alastor's Proclaims of not wanting to indulge, "In Noisy picture box activities." He did, for you, I told you he was a total sweetheart.

He prepared a bath for you, and changed the sheets so you could sleep better.

The entire gesture made your eyes well up in tears, only for Alastor to shush, and as the last step brought you a little closer to him, yes, you were ridiculously short.

"No one had ever taken care of me, like this... except at.. m-my home... It's so... I miss this, so much" You sobbed,

"Come now my dear, I'll take care of you as long as you need. I'll cancel my broadcast if that's what you need."

"But I want another audio."

"Shall it be a little different?" Alastor asked, brushing your hair, to distract you for a while.

"Different?"

"Since, you like my voice which is very flattering I think you can add this to your again very flattering collection."

The movie finished at 1am, before you fell asleep, and a few minutes later Alastor just lightly opened the door to check on you, filled your water bottle before closing the door.
