they've put almost nothing of the romance in the trailers. like the good stuff, you know? the stuff we know we're getting but they can't spoil it too much. the kissing and the lovey dovey stuff 🥲 we have so much to live for

I want a scene where Stede has to tell his crew that he won’t be able to pay them anymore and that they’re free to find some other ship if they want.
And then everyone is like “it’s fine you don’t have to pay us and we’re staying because you’re the best captain wait what’s wrong why are you crying Stede are u okay”.

Super pleased with how this Boneyard Sweethearts Hat by Tellybean Knits came out. For 144 tiny stitches in fingering weight yarn, it knit surprisingly quick.

My six year old plays Stardew Valley like this and then has the AUDACITY to ask why I have so much more money on my game than she has.
I dunno kiddo, maybe because I didn’t build a Saw-esque maze where treasure chests are hidden, each containing one of the vital tools your character needs and then have to navigate it every morning when your character wakes up
Also I have a bunch of fish ponds

i'm having an emotion. in the book, when francis and james make their trip to the cairn (the infamous "are we brothers" trek, though that conversation doesn't happen here) james asks francis if he wrote down where they were headed. and francis hadn't. he almost tells james this, with the explanation of "we're going to fucking die anyway so why does it matter" when they get interrupted by what they think is tuunbaq but turns out to be a juvenile polar bear. they wind up having a giggle and then talking, whereupon james tells francis "i've never had the honor of serving under a better commander or a finer man."
and this is where francis asks for the pen and ink back so he can add where they're headed to the message in the cairn. because he's decided he wants to live.
in the first sentence of the next chapter, the very next sentence in fact, we learn james has died. and the timing of that just makes me

i don't want or need a sequel at all, in fact, i feel like they nailed the ending even with the time crunch. i feel like it is a wonderful, grand closed book and i don't want them to try to pull, like, a 20 episode arc out of what is a beautiful complete story
however i WOULD take an epilogue that is just the Pack of Pixies doing the RueHob wedding and whatever blissful chaos THAT would entail. i'd take a one or two shot of that, for sure

PSA: Vox Machina New Blood
I, and like one other person (@acepalindrome), have decided that, for those of us who have not seen Critical Role but are joining the fandom with the The Legend of Vox Machina cartoon, it might be wise to have a separate tag so we can post our reactions/thoughts/theories with lower chances of running into spoilers!
thus, the hashtag #vmnb or Vox Machina New Blood was born
if you're entering the Critical Role fandom through the cartoon, use this tag and we can check out each others' posts and live safe from spoilers.
**if something like this already exists somehow, uh, oops & please direct me to that tag. if it doesn't, consider spreading the word for us? thanks lol

Sense and Sensibility 'what if?'
@bethanydelleman I hope you don't mind me tagging you in this post.
I wanted to have a bit of 'what if' conversation about S&S, mostly because this idea rooted itself in my brain and won't leave.
What if love interests were in fact a little different in this book? To be precise what if Colonel Brandon found himself interested in Mrs. Dashwood? Maybe it was her he heard playing the piano (let's be honest Mrs Jenkins is more than capable of talking her into performing music), or maybe they connected talking about less than ideal life circumstances. Colonel is about 36 in the book and Mrs. Dashwood is 40. He is much closer to her age than to Marianne's, and I think it would be a good thing. She would be his partner and his equal in everything. I think she is just as disillusioned with life as he is, even if at first glance it would seem she shares Marianne's love for romance and light-heartedness. She had to live through loosing her home, house and status, because her husband's son (a man she most likely raised when he was a boy, on who's wedding she was sitting along with his father) proved he didn't care about his family even a fraction as much as he cared about money and pleasing his greedy wife. I feel like these two would be able to find love, balance, understanding and unwavering support in each other. And maybe even a firy romance, because why not.
And what if at that point Eliza haven't yet made her disastrous escape with Willoughby? By marrying Colonel Brandon and Mrs Dashwood would be able to provide a stable and safe home for FOUR girls. Eliza is Brandon's ward but at no point was she living with him. I think there are a lot of reasons at play here one being obviously the fact she is an illegitimate child born to a disgraced mother, two there never was a woman able to care and bring up a girl child in Delaford. Since Eliza's heritage isn't widely know (all people have are indistinct rumors) I think Colonel could bring her home, claim she was a daughter of his cousin and more importantly under his protection. She is an educated young woman, beautiful (why do you think Willoughby secuced her), with a dowary (if Colonel provides it, which I think he could for all 4 of them) and society is willing to forgive a lot if you posses those atributes. Maybe she would have a chance of a better life, one her mother never had for herself.
I also think Marianne and Eliza would get on like a house on fire.
Plus can you imagine the face of Mrs Henry Dashwood when she hears the news? I think she might genuinely have an anurism.
My effort at organizing and analyzing all of the Sweepstakes links and Q&A. I was finding other guides to be less thorough or less clear than I wanted.

I am still listening to TAZ Ethersea and mostly enjoying it, but it might be the arc I like the least, even if I think the plot is stronger than in Graduation.
The big thing is the characters. They act so jaded, quick to anger, and use various kinds of force to get what they want. Because of that, no other characters really like them! Except for people established in their backstories!!!
As a group they never really connected and it’s only gotten worse lately. The Balance trio bickered but you always got the sense they still cared on some level, even from the beginning. This group is just... fighting. They don’t feel like a found family, they feel like coworkers who often, don’t even like each other.

you know how in school how every class would assign an hour+ of homework, claiming “it’s not that much” but seemingly forgetting that every other class is also assigning homework...
that’s exactly how all these adulting tasks you’re “supposed to” be doing add up. and you get well-meaning experts each telling you doing X only takes 30 minutes a day, seemingly forgetting that there are hundreds of important things you should do daily that only take 30 minutes.
mental health professionals talk about the benefits of meditation, journaling, creative expression. hair stylists warning you against going to bed with wet hair. physical therapists reccomend a 15-minute stretch routine. nutritionists toute the value of cooking your own meals. professional cleaners will tell you ten things you didn’t know you should be cleaning! dentists remind you it would be better to brush multiple times a day. basically everyone telling you to exercise.
obviously a lot of these things are important and none of them are that difficult in and of themselves, generally speaking, but it all adds up. each of these requires time, energy, or even money. plus all the stuff you’re already doing.
I feel like these kinds of professionals can get frustrated with people STILL not doing what they’re supposed to be doing. I just wish they would consider that every other area of life has a similar expert, who is similarly telling people to do more.

something I've been thinking about for a while is, the gap between thought and action especially with social justice or creating positive change in the world
or to put another way: how do people get from hearing about an issue, and actually doing something? from watching a video essay about walkable cities, to petitioning their local government for specific changes. from hearing about trash getting into the ocean, to attending a beach cleanup. from watching a tiktok about the bees disappearing, to planting native flowers.
I believe this gap is a HUGE part of why people feel hopeless about the future. because they see the problems so clearly, but either don't know how or don't believe they can do anything about it.
and of course disclaimer, there are some people who probably really can't do anything, and they need to focus on their own life for a variety of reasons, that's totally fair. But most people will be able to find *something* even if it's "small".
It doesn't really matter what it is--I mean, make sure it's not actually harmful (e.g. supporting autism speaks)--but other than that, just, pick something and make it your thing! do it when you can. it doesn't have to be challenging; in fact, it's better if it isn't, because something you can maintain is more important!
if this post can get even one other person to figure out soemthing concrete they can do, that would be amazing.
you know that thing where you're watching a show or reading a book and you can know, instinctively, that it was produced by a Homestuck? like sometimes there's very specific language used or concept present but sometimes theres not and its just a vibe you get, a character cracking a joke and you're like 'oh ho ho, this writer used to be a homestuck!'
thats how i feel about other mormon creatives, as someone raised in mormon culture. i'm not talking about doctrine or preachiness (though obviously when thats there its evident too) i mean, like... i only read three brandon sanderson books and they're clearly written by someone with big influence from mormon culture. Card too, awful as he is!! Twilight could have been written by a nonmormon but so much of her stylistic choices are clearly attempts to reconcile her mormonism with the sexy vampire trope. Napoleon Dynamic could not have been produced by a nonmormon though it would be impossible!!

there's a post in the tag about someone wishing to see more Omar in D20 and I agree, but it also reminded me about how a year ago a few RPG streamers I like started Power Play, and I never ended up watching it, and I just recently learned that Omar was in that and I could have seen what an awesome player he was long ago if I just had watched it
and then I got to thinking about how many cool actual plays are out there that don't have the budget that Dimension 20 or Critical Role have, but tell really cool stories with really good players regardless! And a lot of these players deserve recognition, but there's so little space to showcase new players for audiences who only watch D20 or CR
so anyway I compiled a list of every single actual play Omar has been in (at least, those I could find VODs for):
