ES Tarn Tragedy AU

Tarn stuck in a "the fuck do I do" mental loop. And just out of panic he makes the only decision he can be sure is good and worthwhile. He will protect the Terran children. From Optimus and Megatron both if need be. As well as any potentially interested Quintessions if the Presence of the Sharkticons and an artifact of Quintus Prime are on Earth.

Mech has no idea what he's doing with his life. If he abides as a Decepticon or becomes an Autobot again. But he makes a surprisingly smart decision, he has to know who he is before he can make that decision. He can't bear the thought of being swept up into someone else's chrisma again.

Alex the historian is having a feild day because he gets to talk/interview/kinda sorta-therapize/deprogram someone with a very unique perspective on the war. Legit gets Tarn to start writing his recollection of the war and the events that lead upto it. Create a primary source for future generations. Strip back the propaganda and go to the bare facts. Then reflect/journal on a second document in a more first hand natative style.

Dot is just eyebrow twitching because a brightly colored tank? How the heck is she gonna hide(and socialize) a brightly colored tank? With serious Optimus and Megatron shaped Daddy Issues.

Reread/skimmed my oldest Pharma apologism posts (mainly the ones about Pharma not being a functionist) and it just occurred to me that possibly another reason the fandom saddled Pharma with the "functionist bigot" label is because his introduction by First Aid says that everyone hates Decepticons, but Pharma really really hates Decepticons. Mix that with the portion of the fanbase that lionizes and whitewashes the Decepticons, and I can easily see it entering common fanon that "Pharma hates Decepticons -> the Decepticons are freedom fighters wrongly maligned by the Autobots/the franchise -> Pharma must be a bigoted functionist since he hates Decepticons who represent freedom."

The simpler explanation is just that Pharma is an antagonist and therefore gets the "everything about him must be evil and wrong" black-and-white analysis so common in fandoms in general, but given some of the bizarre Decepticon takes I've seen I can also easily see Pharma's Decepticon hatred being taken as a sign of him being bigoted and evil.

Though AGAIN in this case it would still be singling Pharma out as a bigot for crimes/flaws that multiple other Autobots are guilty of like.

Oh, Pharma hates Decepticons? Well a lot of other Autobots hate Decepticons too, First Aid's narration about Pharma even says "we all hate Decepticons"; for that matter, there are a lot of Decepticons who hate Autobots. It's a massive civil war that's lasted for a lifetime causing two groups of people to be stuck in a near-permanent blood feud, you can't assume that every Autobot who hates Decepticons (and vice versa) hates them because they're a bigot. Maybe there's been a war where both sides have been building an ever-increasing mountain of reasons to hate each other, so hating the opposite faction is a social problem caused by war and politics rather than a sign of individual moral failing.

Pharma worked at the New Institute so that means he must be evil/bigoted? Chromedome and Brainstorm also worked at the New Institute, but there's no widespread fandom shunning of them or headcanoning them as bigots.

Hell, even the very premise of assuming Pharma is a functionist bigot for hating Decepticons is ignoring the very premise of Pharma's motives, which are, uh... being blackmailed by the leader of the Decepticon Justice Division, who represents the ultimate form of Decepticon ideals to the point of literally wearing their symbol as his mask? So how were we jumping straight to "oh Pharma hates Decepticons bc he's a posh bigoted functionist" when there was a far more immediate interpretation/headcanon of "Pharma hates Decepticons because he's being tortured and blackmailed by one."

That's not to say that Pharma couldn't have hated Decepticons before Delphi, and I think you could make interesting headcanons/extrapolations based on either idea. But still. It kinda feels like people saw Pharma and just wanted to make him the Token Evil Autobot who's the opposite of our Good Heroic Autobots regardless of whether evidence from canon supported it or not.

Good riddance to bigoted functionist Pharma fanon, I'm so glad that the majority of Pharma fanon these days actually gives him a chance and puts him on equal footing as other Autobots.

The poor nurse is operating on the idea that you and Tarn will separate. Eventually. Sometimes, when the bitlets are mechlings (adolescents) and once they untangle the legal confusion of their marriage.

(Tarn is in a similar level of deep denial.)

Camiens have a lot of cultural roots from Seekerkin societies, so bringing the partner that shares coding with resulting bitties and/or claiming marks has deep familial connotations to extend/overlap the flocks. It doesn't help that you and Tarn are Resonants, which explains how the hell he was able to spark you up almost immediately after the first trio's emergence. People will be highly interested in that, especially when the union produces a clutch of femmes.

(Resonants are mecha parties with very deep spark compatibility, aka Camien version of soul mates. It's also a highly venerated trope in Camien media.)

Nurse was very unhappy and needed private garrotting and dissection time with Deadzone's head when you figured out Tarn has weird Daddy Issues with Megatron. You can't tell if it's a deep infatuation, he wants to be fucked, if it's a bitlet howling for a scrap of attention from an emotionally distant/neglectful creator, or some bizarrely godawful combination that could be a medical thesis.

You didn't just meet Tarn's boss. You met his father. It's a fact that keeps you awake at night as Tarn snoozes away with the bitties curled up between you and him.

Should a meeting happen, then Tourniquet would absolutely adore Nurse's little embers.

The spouse, though? Not so much.

Tarn and Tourniquet have mutual poor personal opinions but do have high professional respect for each other. They have a new game of digging into tender or festering spots under each other's plating. They would need buffers. Otherwise, they'll get competitively heated, and the verbal evisceration will escalate to full-blown brawl and property destruction.

Tourniquet's colleagues/friends will get a rant over "darling balefire's terrible taste in mechs!"

no, actually my least favorite thing about watching thai dramas while speaking & understanding thai... is that the dialects never match up 😭😭😭 if a character is from a non-central province, they'll have their whole family speak in northern/southern/isaan dialect while the main character, who's played by an actor from bangkok, will unexplainably not have any remnants of his native dialect when he speaks even though he was born & raised in the area and often time never even left... that shit breaks the fourth wall to me, like... why even hire an actor who doesn't fit the role fully, I don't get it 😭

Service top Tarn this, service top Tarn that. But what if... not? Spoiler alert! I imagine pre-empurata Damus being an innocent flower and a hopeless romantic and saving himself for his conjunx. Post-empurata "Glitch" being an empuratee and not even considering an option for someone to desire him (and also saving himself for his conjunx, see "hopeless romantic" part). And as Tarn he is just being Tarn, saving himself for Megs. (And I don't think Megs has ever taken him to berth. I think Megs preserves his own bodily autonomy and doesn't want to use his sexuality as a tool to punish or reward his subordinates.)

And the second reason why he doesn't interface, if he ever needed another one, is 'cause he's an addict. The hell he knows what a good fuck will do to him. He'll become horribly attached to a partner. WEAK. Holy shit. But being so hooked on pleasure, he 100% has his array modded with extra sensor nodes. Like, his spike looks more pink than black because of nodes. And they are glowing, lol. So, he's super sensitive and probably gets super wet when revved up. And his sexual starvation is MASSIVE. Shame Megatron would never have him. There will never be a conjunx. Others too afraid of him or repulsed by his personality to try wooing him properly or forcing him. What is the Tarnma penpals au? I've seen you mention it a couple times and am super curious about it!

So the Pen Pals AU is an idea that I got a couple of weeks ago. Kind of self-explanatory by the name, but the idea is it's a post-war scenario with a diplomatic ending b/t the Autobots and Decepticons. One of the many efforts to normalize relations is a pen pals program that's set up to pair Autobots with Decepticons under randomized pseudonyms. The goal is to try and create positive relationships based only on these letters and not any preconceived notions based on faction or identity. (Also it's pre-Earth which means it's pre-Delphi for Pharma, so his normal non-traumatized personality features.)

Pharma and Tarn naturally get paired up under this program, and the first part of the AU/fic (yes I'm going to write it eventually) is them basically having their pen pals relationship turn from friendship to heavily implied mutual romantic attachment. Their individual daily lives are also shown bc each of them is dealing with their own identity-related crisis: Tarn struggling with depression and addiction in the aftermath of all the things he did for the DJD and confusion over why Megatron just had them change so suddenly. Pharma with the realization that his whole life has just been defined by his accomplishments and he's lived his life in a way where he's oft-respected and admired, but never loved for who he is as a person rather than what he does.

The whole AU was originally meant to be fluffy and slice-of-life-esque (there was even an arranged marriage component in the very first conception of the idea), but as I fleshed out the setting more, I realized I wanted to actually delve deep into the implications of a post-war setting. So the Pen Pals AU has taken a darker turn recently; not darker as in fluffy romance to dead dove, but it's more like, the fluffy romance develops and then the past/war comes back to haunt Tarn and Pharma's relationship in a way that's very (re)traumatizing, both for them individually and their chances of being able to stay together as a couple.

So the fact that Tarn was in the DJD/oversaw Grindcore and did countless atrocities is very much an element of the story that's explored rather than shied away from. At first he deals with it on his own, and for a while he lives in blissful ignorance knowing that his pen pal is the one relationship he has with a "normal person" (he knows that his pen pal is a doctor, aka not a hardened soldier and criminal). Unfortunately things get complicated when his pen pal asks to meet IRL because he wants them to be more than friends, and Tarn realizes that he can't move forward with this new, blooming relationship without being honest about who he is. On Pharma's end, he has to grapple with the idea of choosing love over reputation, following his heart rather than his fear of social rejection/ostracization. Especially when the consequences of continuing to date Tarn could go from just "people judging him" to.... well, that's what me eventually writing the fic is meant to reveal. :)

TLDR: Tarn and Pharma meet as anonymous pen pals, end up having a lot of shared issues re: loneliness and isolated public personas, help each other solve their personal problems, share a mutual love of music, and fall in love, then realize who the other is. Complications ensue.

Long Story Short, I made up a whole Pokémon region around, like, three years ago. Complete with gym leaders, a map, and everything.

I thought the folder that contained all that stuff was lost forever, but apparently no! It was just gathering dust in some dark corner of my art program! Cool!

Now, this was when I just started getting into digital art, and felt like I had to relearn everything I knew. As a result, they look kinda, how do I put this, like shit. So, since I’m a big fan of doing things when I don’t have the time for them, I thought it would be cool to give them a redesign.

Ok so - I've been sleeping on Aftertouch for so long because I for some reason feel like I need to have a DESIGN for my ocs before I talk about them, but considering Aftertouch is important to Drillburst's, Glare's, and Pimpernel/Scotta's stories I'll just share ahead of time. Who cares if you don't know what he fully looks like!!!

Aftertouch of the Pious Pools is a high-ranking Autobot, loyal to the cause but notoriously empathetic. He's well mannered in speech and presentation, incredibly patient, and understanding toward his crew, which has made him a well respected commander. He has a love for music and literature, and plays the piano in his free time.

He's a triple changer who turns into a jet as well as a submarine. He's also a loadbearer, and while his armor stands at 40 feet tall, he's actually no bigger than 16 feet. In his true form, he transforms into a seaplane!

Before the war, he was a student at the Jihaxian Academy of Advanced Technology, learning how to use his outlier ability: he can read the emotions and sense the thoughts of any cybertronian when resting his hand on them (think mantis from gotg). He used to be unable to control his ability, sensing the mind-grating feelings and thoughts of everyone he walked past, but once he learned to tame his ability, he decided to use it to help others by becoming a therapist. His dream was to play the piano for his patients as they talked through their problems together, creating a soothing sound-based environment. However, come the war, he found himself drafted into the Autobots; and after proving himself to be a remarkable force to be reckoned with over the course of millennia, Aftertouch was gifted special loadbearer armor and appointed to among the highest positions an Autobot could have: commander of an entire fleet.

Aftertouch’s ship is called the Truthful Reclaim. It’s a little smaller than the Lost Light, but it’s still very huge. It has a hangar for smaller ships, a training deck, crew cabins, and other things that constitute a battleship. It’s top of the class in armor and firepower, but it’s not as fast. Therefore, it’s flanked by smaller destroyer ships that defend it in battle.

Aftertouch's mission is to quell Decepticon fleets and hunt down highly dangerous Autobot enemies, above all elite Decepticons (postwar, he fights fleets who have gone rogue and hunts elite Decepticons who have not yet accepted the end of the war). He and his special team are equipped with state of the art capture and stasis technology, and to date have brought dozens of high-risk Decepticons to the justice of Autobot command. His fame, or notoriety, marked him as an important target among the Decepticons.

While he's feared by many, Aftertouch is loved and respected by his crew. A notable Autobot under him is Pimpernel, an intelligent and kind mechanic whose occasional cluelessness adds to her charm. He's one of two who know that she's an organic in a suit; in fact, it was he who found her on Nebulos, alone and unaware of her surroundings. Since then, he has taken her under his wing, and assisted her in adapting to Cybertronian life. Aware of her fragility, he assigned her to mechanic duty aboard his ship, where he could always keep an eye on her. Another notable Autobot is Glare, a notorious ex-Decepticon in the process of atoning for his history of carnage. Glare was assigned to him by Autobot command to monitor with caution, given a special order to neutralize him if he proved too unruly or dangerous. Sympathetic and aware of Glare's softened spark, Aftertouch has never found it in himself to have to follow through.

While he may be a duty-bound commander and a powerful force, he's a soft-sparked therapist deep down. He still hopes that one day he can return to the dream he had before the war, but until the firm grip of Autobot high command loosens, he remains a powerhouse of deep space.

In Drillburst's story, he's the one who helps him learn to control his explosive outlier ability and channel it outward instead of inward :D
