MFA Boston Returns a 2,500-Year-Old Necklace to Turkey
When the museum bought the necklace in 1982, it did not receive any provenance records.
The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston has repatriated a necklace to Turkey after scholars told museum staff that elements of the artifact were likely looted from an ancient tomb illegally excavated in the 1970s.
Parts of the disassembled 2,500-year-old gold and carnelian necklace, which has been on display at the MFA for more than forty years after it was acquired, were believed by researchers to have been taken out of Turkey after an illicit excavation that took place in 1976.
The necklace is believed to have been strung together and sold privately to the museum by a London dealer in 1982.
Prior to its return, an outside researcher contacted the museum about the necklace’s suspect provenance record, comparing its similarities to other beads and metallic elements of ancient jewelry excavated from a site in the province of Manisa located in Western Turkey.
According to Victoria Reed, the MFA’s Sadler Curator for Provenance, some beads from the looted site that were used as visual references by scholars to link the MFA necklace to it never left the country. They were instead placed in the collection of a local archaeological museum.
The museum’s internal staff conducted its own review of the object’s ownership record to confirm the outside research.
In a statement announcing the artifact’s return, Reed said, “It’s our responsibility to ensure that we are not holding onto objects that were unlawfully acquired.”
Representatives from Turkey’s government attended a repatriation ceremony at the Turkish consulate in Boston to retrieve the necklace earlier this week, where they signed a memorandum marking the occasion.

Movie: Cat On A Hot Tin Roof (1958)
Throughout the entirety of the film, a simple gold necklace with a dainty heart-shaped pendant is a staple of Margaret "Maggie the Cat" Pollitt (Elizabeth Taylor). The understated glam of the pendant and the simple elegance of her costumes designed by Helen Rose allows Elizabeth's performance to really shine through, especially since she is known for flaunting her legendary jewelry collection.
Her real-life third husband, film producer Mike Todd, had the necklace made for Elizabeth, along with an identical one for his mother, as a Valentine's Day gift. Elizabeth was photographed wearing it on February 12, 1958 during a press trip to Europe and the 1958 Golden Globe Awards.
The sentiment Elizabeth felt for the necklace was clearly attached to the fact that she received it shortly before Mike died in a plane crash on March 22, 1958. She wore the necklace constantly for almost two years after he died, including his funeral, her wedding to Eddie Fisher and as part of her costume in Suddenly, Last Summer (1959). It wasn’t until 1960 when Taylor landed on the set of Cleopatra (1963) in Rome that the necklace became less of a mainstay in her daily jewels.
Not much is known about the necklace's current location, but Elizabeth may have bequeathed it in her will, just as her former mother-in-law passed it down to her granddaughter, Liza Todd, Elizabeth's only daughter with Mike Todd since it is not part of any of the auctions to benefit the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation throughout the years as well as the Christie's live auction, The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor: The Legendary Jewels after her passing.

2,300-Year-Old Gold Ring Found in City of David
Israel Antiquities Authority says ‘emotionally moving find’ likely belonged to a boy or girl.
Archaeologists have discovered a 2,300-year-old ancient gold ring set with a precious stone in the City of David Jerusalem, which was reportedly made for and worn by a young child who resided there during the Hellenistic period.
The excavations were carried out jointly between the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) and Tel Aviv University (TAU) as part of the Jerusalem Walls National Park project, with the support of the Elad Foundation.
“It is an unusual and deeply moving find; not one that we discover every day,” the archaeological team told the Jerusalem Post. The red precious stone was apparently a garnet, and the gold is a refined material that was very well-preserved. Since its last use over two millennia ago, the ring hasn’t accumulated rust or weathering.
The gold ring was recently uncovered by Tehiya Gangate, a City of David archaeologist and member of the excavation team. She was sifting earth through a screen when something glittery caught her eye,

“I immediately yelled, ‘I found a ring, I found a ring!’ Within seconds, everyone gathered around me, and there was great excitement. This is an emotionally moving find. I always wanted to find gold jewelry, and I am very happy this dream came true – literally a week before I went on maternity leave,” she told the Jerusalem Post.
“The ring is very small. It might fit a woman’s pinkie or a young girl’s or boy’s finger,” IAA excavation directors Dr Yiftah Shalev and Riki Zalut Har-tov said.
Dr Marion Zindel added that the ring was made by hammering thin pre-cut gold leaves on a metal ring base. Aesthetically, it is characteristic of the common fashion of the Persian and early Hellenistic periods, dating from the late fourth to early third century BC and onwards. During that era, people started to have a preference for gold with set stones rather than decorated gold.

REBORN OC, HEEHEE!
Auriga is an ex-Meteor "Knight" who was personally trained up (and in the loosest definition, raised from when he was a young teen) by Sirius because he showed exceptional prowess as a Pokemon trainer.
More info under the cut!
Sirius disallowed Auriga from getting friendly with anybody and treated him with little patience. He never even called his protégé by his birth name, solely referring to him by his Meteor code name (which caused Auriga to only identify with his code name instead of his birth name which he hardly remembers). He trained him to become a cold-hearted and powerful trainer, though he was never allowed his own team—he was given rental Pokemon for missions, instead.
Sirius, Solaris, and Elias routinely drilled into Auriga’s head that Team Meteor was his family and he owed them for everything; therefore, he was expected to be completely loyal without question. However, the few times he spoke to Taka or Luna, plus Luna escaping and running away, one day, had him question this loyalty, and eventually added up to him defecting from Team Meteor and running from the Reborn region, for a little while.
Soon, though, he returned, determined to stop Team Meteor from carrying out their plans and ending them for good. From the moment he set foot within the region, he worked restlessly to fight Team Meteor at every corner, sometimes to his own self destruction. He uses prior knowledge and his own wit to maneuver through his journey.
Unfortunately, he doesn’t know who he is without Team Meteor, either. He can’t confidently describe what it means to be family, he hates to be left to his own time when he’s not chasing Meteors or training to defeat them, and has difficulty talking to others who aren’t/weren't part of the organization.
