Yes they did. Old...

What's interesting to me is the suggestion that being able to type was a common enough skill - or capability, anyway, speaking as someone who's hunt-and-pecked through a bunch of novels, short stories and screenplays - that these machines were worth installing.

(Ray Bradbury wrote the first draft of "Fahrenheit 451" on a coin-operated typewriter.)

This was part of my undergrad illustration thesis, which was illustrations to accompany the text of Shakespeare's The Tempest, repurposing aesthetics and imagery from the rural New Hampshire village where I grew up.

Reposting this piece from May 2020, because it is now available as a print, and Tumblr is being weird about letting me edit the original post to add alt text and a link.

Backspace key broke on my laptop so I'm not allowed to make mistakes anymore :\

#the only way to make it work is by slamming both pointer fingers down on it at the same time #which makes me feel like a cartoon mouse jumping on an old fashioned typewriter trying to write a letter #and then 1/5 times it gets stuck and starts erasing everything so I have to panickedly try to unstick it #and my brain won't stop hitting it because of habit and my delete key is in a weird spot #so yeah #no more mistakes for me #that seems like the most elegant solution #(genuinely this is fine and will be fine)#albie's corner
