gosh though. this event has been SO cute in general! I was wondering who'd get the focus for year 5; I could not be happier that the answer is apparently EVERYBODY. :D all the dorms get their own special songs! so many cute little scenes!!! the lowest of stakes bringing out the highest of pettiness in everyone!!!!!! it's excellent.

(also, because I will make literally anything about my diaboys...I know these events are typically sorta, let's say chronologically unmoored with regards to story. but the further implications that this takes place pre-episode 7/Malleus' Big Existential Crisis, and yet...some of these lines?)

i love the idea of sy transmigrating into svsss and being hailed as a seer or some sort of demigod or something. even better if he’s a disciple. he lets one weird thing abt the plot slip, it comes to pass, and suddenly he’s elevated in the sect, yqy is consulting him on major happenings, and sqq becomes fiercely possessive because that’s his head disciple, tyvm. he’s not spectacularly talented in martial arts or swordsmanship, but he’s incredibly skilled with musical and spiritual cultivation

he’s poisoned by without a cure during the demon invasion when elder hammer tries his stupid sneak attack on lbh. after that, lbh becomes his unofficial assistant, because all sy really wants to do is hang out and vibe, but he’s too valuable to the sect to be put on bed rest and somebody’s gotta make sure he takes his meds and doesn’t collapse alone on a mission. and sqq treats sy’s poisoning as lbh’s fault (lbh does too, sadly), so he makes sy lbh’s responsibility

It’s honestly possible that he’s wearing fake glasses, but I’d find it funny if he who “sees the truth of the world” couldn’t see shit lol. Farsightedness is also possible— maybe the old man needs his reading glasses (though unlikely bc he wears glasses outside the office too). Or maybe it’s just blue light glasses for staring at a computer all day

after some experimentation, i've found that "clean-shaven and hair hidden under a beanie" gets me gendered as male way more reliably than "hair loose, full moustache". no idea why long hair provokes such a strong "that's a girl" reaction, but there we go.

the way people are theorising a million ways it could possibly not be ace.... guys i think its over.... ace confessed already... the glove may still be missing and the scuffs may not be directly explained but teruko said that not everything has to be completely known (maybe it'll be like the note and be relevant in the future idk).... i already accepted that i have to see ace die next week dont feed my delusions drdt fandom /j

yeahhhhhh... i agree. i don't really think that there's any way to get out of Ace being the killer here-- not after that huge confession after the end of last episode, at least. i know that some people have been citing the fact that there wasn't a vote or execution last episode as "evidence" that Ace might not be the culprit, but ending the episode on a closing argument -> immediately starting the next episode on a vote is exactly what happened in Min's case.

i suspect that next episode (which is very likely both the episode of Ace's execution and the last of the chapter) may be a lot longer than Min's final episode due to whatever plan Teruko said that Veronika would see after the next person was murdered, but that it will kick off the post trial.

if someone else were to be the culprit at this point, i think it would basically have to be someone else who was blackmailing/otherwise coercing Ace to do it. otherwise, why the hell would he give up and confess? that would also open up other options of people who could have gotten their hands on the tape, but more importantly, the fitness band, which currently has no other substitute in terms of launching the ball over the rafters. however, we have no idea what could have caused someone else to have such power over Ace, which renders this idea very implausible.

you could also argue that Eden did it, but switching the target to her last minute would involve needing to either reveal someone else who saw the body before Teruko/Eden/Whit did or explain the see no evil concept, AND explain how the hell Eden would have gotten her hands on the fish. at the pace this trial has been running at, both of those things might take up an entire episode. possibly more than that if the answer was "she had an accomplice" (which I guess would probably be Ace, to explain his confession???) because then we would need to determine who that is and why. if there were that many changes to the murder coming up, i don't think that DRDTdev would make a closing argument for the Ace part. not for the sole sake of faking people out into thinking it's Ace, especially when the DRDT team was already working overtime to put the episodes out now.

so, y'know, i probably could have cut this ask off after "yeah i agree" and called it a day, but that's never been my style. but now, this post-- just like Ace's chances at being innocent-- is over.

I wanna take a second to analyze Darry and Johnny’s significance in GE because they’re so fascinating to me.

The theme of the song is obviously Pony having both great expectations for what his life could be AND going against people’s expectations of what mold they think he fits.

He picks Darry and Johnny to demonstrate the point (specifically the latter point), two people who exist on the completely opposite ends of the East Side spectrum.

Darry held the greaser equivalent of “golden child” in the sense that he had every advantage a greaser could have. Despite still living at/below the poverty line, he came from a home with two present, loving parents, was academically talented, athletically capable, and possessed a strong work ethic. He quite literally did everything right and by the book.

In comparison, Johnny is sitting on the lowest rung on the ladder. The complete opposite of Darry, with seemingly nothing going for him. His parents are physically abusive, he struggles in school, he’s one of the scrawniest in the gang, and is the target of extreme harassment and assault. Pony literally says that he has no chance in the world (but he could if he’d started from somewhere else).

Pony voiced previously before name dropping them that he worries about not being in control of his life. It’s because of what he saw happen to these two. It’s what they had no control over that determined exactly where they were to end up, a shared position: the bottom rung.

But ultimately, you’d have no idea the amount of sympathy and admiration that both garner from simply knowing their story if you don’t take the time to look under the cover. You’d lump them together as two poor greasers when they (and everyone else!!) are so much more than that.
