One Lifetime With You (ep. 1)

a/n: okay so I’ve come up with a new fic concept: non-elf (mortal) Tolkien characters FALLING FOR SOMEONE WHO’S AN ELF! idk where it came from, maybe because for me elves have always been more distinct than other races in Middle-earth AND also the immortal x mortal concept?!!? I REALLY do hope you like this, plsss let me know (i’m nervous! 😬) and consider reblogging to support my writing! 🥰🥰💗💗

✨ EPISODE 1: BOROMIR ✨

at first he is very hesitant and careful

I headcanon him as being a little bit superstitious or something and he would literally interpret you as some omen and cautiously admire you from a distance

but the ringing sound of your laughter and the inexplicably magical way that you move quickly captured his hear; he generally falls in love fast but this time it broke every record

however

very soon he would start to feel insufficient for you and he would struggle trying to bury those feelings

but either he’s bad at hiding his true feelings, or you have some accurate elvish intuition/mind reading abilities, or both

and there’s just something in the way his eyes linger on you longer than it could be deemed appropriate

although when it comes to open physical affection, elves aren’t exactly on the same level as humans, you still very much enjoy how Boromir treats you, even though sometimes it makes you a bit flustered

it would be a lie to say that he doesn’t relish that at least a little bit

he’s still a bit insecure about fully approaching you because, after his initial hesitation, he finds you to be the most enchanting being in all of Middle-earth and nobody can compare

but the way you smile when he greets you in passing gives him a confidence boost, and as soon as the two of you start talking and spending time together more often, he can’t get enough of that, and insecurities are seemingly forgotten

your distinct aura drew him towards you, but your personality made him fall for you completely

he tries to be smooth, but it charms you even more if he ends up tripping over his words, but he would make a complete fool of himself just to hear you giggle

you can relax around him and neither of you care about others’ opinions

he is SO quick to defend you if anybody as much as breathes “wrongly” in your direction, literally like your personal bodyguard

you’re the more composed and cool one and he’s the more passionate, energetic one

he is definitely the slightly jealous type

does he ask Faramir to teach him elvish so he can confess his love to you?? you bet he does!!

and you’re amazed and your heart is melting even though the grammar is a bit off and his accent is coming through but who cares

from that point you make it your mission to teach him elvish

it’s more fun than it is successful, but you find it so endearing that he really tries

Boromir adores listening to you sing or speak in your language - it sounds as ethereal as you look

he all but lights on fire when he feels your loving gaze on him

his heart skips a beat whenever you’re being more physically affectionate, especially if it’s in front of someone

Boromir ADORES picking you up and twirling you around, no special occasion necessary

he’s generally so proud to be with you and he showers you with love and he would go to the ends of the very universe for you

he really enjoys just talking to you about everything and showing you his life and his world

Faramir is absolutely amazed by you and you grow to love him like your own brother

however, Boromir has a hard time accepting that you’re willing to give up your immortality for him and he will definitely openly tell you that

it even crosses his mind that, if he had known earlier that you’d have to do it, he would have just quietly loved you from a distance

because if there’s one thing he doesn’t ever want, it’s for you to be hurting in any way

but for you, giving up the immortal life is the only right choice to make because, in hundreds of years you spend in Middle-earth, you’ve never felt more alive than when you’re together

so yes of course you make that decision

and there are mixed happy/sad tears from both of you as you hold each other like you’re about to evaporate

literally the ultimate declaration of love

he proposes to you right then and there, hence more happy tears, but you wouldn’t want to experience that with anybody else

Boromir is a simple man who has always wanted love and a family of his own, but never dared to even dream to end up with a larger-than-life love story

however he ended up getting a very magical one

every now and then he wakes up thinking that it was all a dream, and he feels a combination of delight, relief and love when he finds you right there, looking as radiant as a spring sunrise

Life After Death

If there’s one thing that unites all cats, regardless of whether they were born of ferals or housecats, regardless of whether they belong to a Clan, a Gang, or are loners or rogues all on their own. One would have a very hard time finding a cat that doesn’t think there’s something awaiting them after they pass on. The exact nature of the afterlife is as varied as the cultures the cats live in. Reincarnation, living on as a ghost, or even being sent to another plane of existence.  However, it was not always this way.

The Tale of The Immortal One

Lifetimes and generations ago, in times long forgotten, death was final. There were no gates of heaven awaiting one’s soul, no bridges of rainbow or second chances. Once a cat was gone, they were gone for good. This led to a society so gripped by fear of the end, so tortured by grief, that it stagnated in its lack of curiosity and risk-taking.

One cat, their true name lost to time, decided enough was enough, and rose up to the challenge of finding a way to change the meaning of death itself. They would travel far from home, through plains under the scalding sun and mountains of cutting hail, until they would reach the highest peak that touched the sky. There, they would meet with beings beyond a mortal’s comprehension, so complex and otherworldly that a mere glimpse was said to curse and drive cats to instant doom.

The brave hero lacked sight, and thus was able to speak to one of those beings. They asked for a favor that only those above all mortals could provide. A second chance for all cats. The being, impressed by the cat’s courage, agreed to a deal. Whatever the cats believed would happen to them after death, the being would make it true. However, there was a price: the cat would have to give up their own right of joining their peers in the afterdeath. In a purely selfless act, the cat accepted, from now on being known as The Immortal One.

The Clans and The Afterlife

Of course, the Clans were no exceptions to this gift, and their belief would create an afterlife unique to them. Though the individual ideas of what awaits the cats on the other side may differ, all Clan cats believe in the same overall concept. The concept of The Two Planes and the importance of burials.

Exact rituals differ from Clan to Clan, however all four of them believe that the type of burial decides which Plane the deceased goes to.

An honorable burial sends a cat to Starclan, known by some as Silverpelt’s Plane. This is the Plane located high above the earth, within the darkness of the night sky. Cats who go to Starclan are expected to find lands made of pure starlight, filled with bountiful prey and the calming glow of stardust. It’s a place born of selflessness, but also governed by rules.

A dishonorable burial sends a cat to the Place of No Stars, known by some as Brightmask’s Plane. This is the Plane located deep underground, where the layers of earth eventually receede into a scorching realm of red. Cats who go to the Place of No Stars are expected to find lands made of ash and burning coals, embers glowing in the smoke-tainted air and with no life to be found. It’s a place born of selfishness, but also governed by freedom.

But what about if neither happens? The Clans believe that the spirits of those who were not buried within four days and four nights become detached from their bodies and continue to walk among the living, unseen and unheard. Many of these wandering spirits do not realise they are dead, causing them to get lost in search of their loved ones and often end up finding their way to one of the Two Planes. The cats of those Planes at first don’t realise the spirit is dead either, and treat them like any dreaming visitor.

That is of course, until the spirit realises on their own that they’re dead. This can happen in many ways. They can see their own body being mourned over by their family, or they may realise that calling to a still living cat yields no response, or even simply remembering they didn’t fall asleep before reaching the Planes. 

Once the realisation sets in, the spirit becomes locked to whatever realm they happen to be in at that moment. If they’re walking the earth, they will become a ghost, watching their loved ones from afar as nothing more than a mist until they are satisfied enough to move on and fade away. If they’re within one of the Two Planes, well... they may find that they can no longer leave.

✨ EPISODE 2: FARAMIR ✨

definitely the first contact between the two of you would be through Gandalf

Faramir would be very intrigued and I feel like he’ll have a million questions to ask you - I headcanon him as an absolute nerd

here’s the thing - he knows how things (don’t) work between elves and mortals and he would immediately forbid himself from catching any sort of romantic feelings for you

he would maintain some friendly curiosity towards you and you two would talk a lot, actually, and just spend time together

you thought it’s so cute how he always has questions to ask you and over time you realize you actually look forward to that so much

speaking in elvish together because why not? it gives him a chance to practice, reminds you of home, and it’s fun that basically nobody else in Gondor understands you

it becomes sort of an inside joke

not gonna lie, Boromir is at first a bit wary of you, but his little brother seems happy so he just lets you be (but secretly becomes protective of you over time)

it is a nice little friendship that gradually gets built and you have so much respect and admiration for each other

he feels like you understand him and actually listen to him with interest, and it feels liberating to you to just be yourself around him without the heavy weight of expectations

but you find yourself growing strangely restless and even jittery around him which is nearly unthinkable for a composed elf

and you know what that feeling is, but you cannot tell whether it might be reciprocated, or whether Faramir is just a warm and friendly person, so you need to subtly investigate the situation

maybe you start to leave books and scrolls with the finest elvish love poetry in places that you know he will spend time in

do you maybe quietly sing about Beren and Luthien as you brush and braid your hair??

either way, Faramir is intelligent and observant and he does pick up on what you’re doing rather quickly

but he thinks he is also being delusional because why would you, of all people, fall for him?

from his perspective, he is just some man, and you’re almost a deity, an apparition, a walking dream

you’re scared of going too far and finding that he doesn’t feel the same, but you fall in love more and more each time your eyes meet, and eventually you become brave enough to at least leave him a neatly written note on his desk explaining what is in your heart

immediately after you need to go and get some air and calm yourself down

he reads the note and his heart simultaneously flutters and breaks - the former, because someone as incredible as you fell in love with him, and he can at last stop trying to hold his feelings back; the latter, because he knows that the ending of your story will be heart-wrenching, although it hasn’t even properly begun

he keeps and treasures that note until the end of his days

he runs to find you in one of your favorite gardens, as if he knows you so well (he does) to know exactly where you’d be

as soon as you sense him approaching, your feelings get the best of you and you literally run to him and hug him

he is pleasantly surprised, his embrace so comforting that you’re certain you never want to let him go

you can feel his heart thumping through his clothes as you look up at him; Faramir’s breath catches in his throat

he’d secretly read a number of romance books throughout his life (and wanted to have a sweet love story too), but the second that his lips touched yours, all of those stories were forgotten - the only one that mattered, no matter the ending, was right there in front of him

Suffering Awards: RWBY

Nora: So who do you think will win the award this year, my dear co-host?

Ren: Well, considering this is the first Suffering Awards for our show, anyone can win. But if I have to choose someone, I’d say it’s Pyrrha. (Camera cuts to Pyrrha’s ghost, dressed in her prom dress) Having been the last person to die after so much has gone wrong in her life, after being isolated for so long I think she’s got a good chance. What about you, Nora?

Nora: My bet’s on Yang! (Cuts to Yang in her new outfit, waving her artificial hand at the camera) Seeing as she lost both her moms, was disgraced by Mercury and had her arm lobbed off, I have no doubt she’ll win this award!

(Camera cuts to Glynda, who is carrying two statuettes crafted in the image of Guts from Berserk)

Glynda: In a surprising outcome for the first award show, we have two winners this year. And this year’s wards for most suffering in onelifetime goes to...

Nora: Oh boy! Ren, if I win this I get to be on top tonight!

Ren: What?

Glynda: Qrow Branwen and Taiyang Xiao Long!

*Congratlitory music pays as a spot line is shown on the two men, one passed drunk  and the other trying to draw as little attention to himself as possible. Taiyang lifts Qrow onto his back, walks up to the podium and takes the awards.*

Nora: ... What?

Ren: Huh, that was...unforeseen.

Coco: Wait, how do those guys get the awards? We barely know one of them. (Everyone chatters in agreement)

Glynda: Well, if you must know: Qrow was raised in a bandit clan, well aware of what the clan did to people was wrong. He lost his teammate Summer, his sister Raven ditched him, he lost Ozpin and nearly lost his nieces twice. He also happen to have a Semblance that curses people around him with bad. And Mr. Xiao Long lost both of his loves in quick succession, his brother in law keeps ditching him, he nearly lost his children twice with one of them being comatose and the other without an arm and then his youngest daughter abandoned him. He spent six months watching his eldest daughter wallow in depression all the while the two of the three people he had left in the world could have died and eh couldn’t make sure his kids were safe due to his responsibilities as a teacher.

(Silence fills the room until...)]

Nora: Well, when you put it like that...
