someone on here will literally say "encouraging plastic surgery for the sole purpose of conforming to eurocentric beauty standards isn't actually feminism" and 200 other people will come out of the woodworks and chant in harmony LET WOMEN BE HAPPY and WHAT ABOUT TRANS PEOPLE AND BURN VICTIMS as if the post wasn't clearly 1. about womens' self image & insecurities being strongly influenced by the richest and whitest of society and 2. not about trans people or burn victims at all
#ive thought about it a lot and i know the main argument is that it's bodily autonomy and also having it more widely available makes it#easier for the people who really do need it to get it#but like. first of all the industry (and it is an industry) spends SO much money convincing women their bodies look wrong#if it wasnt advertised everywhere and if the expectation wasnt there to look 'perfect' according to the most recent trends#the amount of women getting elective plastic surgery would be drastically lower#second of all. yeah having more surgeons out there means more experience and safer treatments for those who really need it..#as long as they have the money#and for trans people as long as they have money and/or good insurance and/or all the required medical documentation and/or therapy#and at the end of the day you can criticize just part of something but not all of it. i feel like a lot of people forget that when they#start saying shit online. just stop and think and dont interact with people assuming the worst of them!!#when i criticize the beauty industry im never calling any woman who's ever worn makeup or gotten a facelift evil it's an INDUSTRY#it's systemic!!!#almost reminds me of how criticizing the patriarchy and systemic misogyny as a lesbian will get u painted as some man hating terf#i love men! i dont blame individual men for the system we're all a part of i just criticize its existence and try to work to dismantle it#and i know complaining on the internet is like a little raindrop in the ocean but still. it needs to be discussed i think

I know the autism warrior mommies are gross and annoying but you do know that they are most likely not talking about a kid who like, can't make eye contact and really likes dinosaurs right? You know that some people have kids with autism that completely uproots the family and requires outside support, right? Financial and emotional support? And it's not evil or ableist for them to say they need that? That the issue is with exploiting their child online and making it all about their own martyrdom, not the fact that they are struggling and need help? You aren't reducing autism down to its mildest forms and assuming nothing else exists because you don't see it on the internet, right? Right?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) offers numerous benefits for individuals with anxiety disorders. At the Therapy Center of New York, CBT helps patients identify and challenge negative thought patterns that fuel anxiety. By restructuring these thoughts, individuals can reduce their anxiety levels and develop healthier coping mechanisms. CBT also provides practical tools and strategies, such as relaxation techniques and exposure therapy, to manage anxiety symptoms effectively in daily life.
In addition to immediate symptom relief, CBT provides long-term mental health improvements. The skills and techniques learned during therapy sessions equip patients with the ability to handle future anxiety-provoking situations independently. This not only prevents relapse but also enhances overall resilience and well-being. The Therapy Center of New York emphasizes the enduring benefits of CBT, ensuring that individuals achieve lasting progress and a better quality of life.

Not "pro self-diagnosis" or "anti self-diagnosis" but a secret third thing (while there's nothing wrong with doing your own research and using it as a useful tool to find coping strategies to make your life easier, along with making you a stronger self-advocate during the diagnosis process, mental health is complicated and many conditions overlap in ways the average person cannot understand, particularly when you factor in family history/trauma/lifestyle/etc. so maybe see a psychiatrist before you diagnose yourself with a life-long neurodevelopmental disorder or other serious mental health condition and then use your incorrect self-diagnosis to spread misinformation about it)

“it’s so cool that an electrician can install wires but a construction worker can only build a frame”
#ik it’s a joke and the true loves kiss thing is funny. BUT lemme be pedantic for a sec and say#that this dichotomy of ‘person that can give pills' as a neutral/positive thing vs#person than can 'ONLY' give what is assumed to be useless/frivolous 'advice' is such a microcosm of why online discourse on this subject is#ridiculous and reductive at best but harmful at worst#and this is not me defending psychology btw like it is an incredibly problematic field that has hurt many people and continues to do so#which is why i stopped studying it bc i couldn't reconcile all that#but the idea of psychiatry as a like... more pure/effective alternative to that is so????#like first of all they're fully different specialties which is what first annoyed me like they're literally just not the same field so ofc#they do different things... that's how specialization works...#but it's a joke so sure#but going further than that i think that reducing psychiatry to 'giving pills' as if that's a better solution than 'true loves kiss'#(aka cognitive behavior therapy i'm assuming aka coping mechanisms and plans to change your life/cope with what you can't change)#is like i said very reductive bc psychiatry is (similarly to psych) a field with deeply problematic origins and uses to this day#and medical determinism and the idea of all 'hard science' fields being neutral and without fault bc they're 'science' where psych and othe#'soft sciences' are flawed is a very harmful idea bc it lets hard science off the hook for all of the ways it is flawed and just as#subjective and vulnerable to cultural influences as psych#BUT this is silly . bc it's a tweet#it's just such a common idea and thing seen within most discussions about psych where this dichotomy is created and people speak about#'pills' and 'chemical imbalances' and 'serotonin' or WHATEVER as if they're inherent truths#the same way people speak about mental illness as an inherent truth#bc of this 'hard science' 'soft science' dichotomy that has been adopted into popular culture#even though it's a fallacy!#and a harmful one but again this is just a silly tweet so it's not that serious but the larger discourse is and i cannot STANDDDD it

Puttin a lil check mark in my back problem like Dealt With ✅
Now I just have my shoulder pains (which I've had for like 7 years now lol), the rib pains (which I've had for like 2 and a half years, give or take), and the possible fibromyalgia
Lmfao
One win is still progress
#speculation nation#like it's not 100% gone but it no longer hurts for general range of motion#and i can manage general upkeep on my own from now on#i realized that my shoulders problem could probably be solved with physical therapy. or at least made better#in which case i'd want to go back to this place. theyve been very nice to me#but i think my ribs thing is a bit more pressing lol. i used up all my old meds for it in the past few months to manage it#so for a time it wasnt as bad. but ive run out of the meds and it's definitely flaring again#doesnt hurt for general existence (most of the time) but basically my whole sternum hurts to touch lol#& the rib popping is always disconcerting. even if it makes my ribs feel better in the moment.#this at least is smth that should be solvable with inflammation drugs. much lower effort.#i just need to set up the appointment.#and also apply for medicare... im aging out of my dad's insurance next year (not this year as i'd previously feared lol)#so we'll see for the shoulders. ribs should be easier. i just need to set up the appointment.#should be easiest to go thru the school's medical stuff. much less wait time.#i just need to call lol bc the online portal Uhhh doesnt actually have an option for this lol#siiiince this is apparently an uncommon issue. gotta love it.#the possible fibro is probably later on my list just bc . idk it's just not a priority.#it's speculation to explain the general fatigue sensitivity to temperature and frequent aches#+ this rib problem is apparently common within fibro lol#also the fact that my mom has it and it's definitely hereditary 🤔🤔🤔🤔#lmao hope u guys love hearing about my medical problems bc i sure am sharing#honestly as someone who was essentially on mental illness tumblr in my teens it's kinda wild that the physical is much more of a problem#spent so long trying to deal with the hellhole of my mind. and ive healed i guess#so NOW it's dealing with the bullshit of the body. which is certainly not fun to deal with either lmao#definitely glad to have graduated pt for my back tho. AND i got out early enough i can go home and eat#very glad.... i wasnt looking forward to 6 hours of work without eating after pt........

Signs Your Psychiatry Medication Needs Adjustment
Psychiatric medications can be highly effective in managing mental health conditions, but it’s important to recognize when an adjustment may be necessary. Changes in your symptoms, side effects, or daily functioning can signal that your current medication regimen isn’t fully meeting your needs. Here are some signs that your psychiatry medication might need adjustment:
1. Your Symptoms Are Not Improving
One of the clearest signs that your medication needs adjustment is if your symptoms aren’t improving as expected.
Persistent Symptoms: If you’ve been taking your medication as prescribed for several weeks and your symptoms (e.g., depression, anxiety, mood swings) haven’t improved, it may be time to talk to your doctor about adjusting the dosage or trying a different medication.
Minimal or No Change: Even slight improvements are a good sign, but if you’re seeing little to no change in your condition, your medication may not be the right fit for you.
2. Your Symptoms Are Getting Worse
Worsening symptoms, despite being on medication, indicate that your plan for psychiatry medication management Salem might need revision.
Increased Intensity: If your symptoms become more intense or frequent, this could mean that your medication is no longer as effective as it once was, or it may not be the right medication for you.
New Symptoms: The appearance of new symptoms that weren’t present before starting the medication could also indicate a need for a reassessment.
3. You’re Experiencing Severe Side Effects
While mild side effects are common with many psychiatric medications, severe or intolerable side effects are a cause for concern.
Significant Discomfort: If side effects like nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, or weight gain are severe enough to impact your daily life, your medication regimen may need to be adjusted.
Dangerous Side Effects: Side effects that are potentially dangerous, such as heart palpitations, extreme changes in blood pressure, or severe allergic reactions, require immediate medical attention and a likely change in medication.
4. You’re Having Trouble with Daily Functioning
During the Psychiatry Medication Management Salem, if your medication is making it difficult for you to perform daily activities, this is a red flag.
Cognitive Issues: Difficulty concentrating, memory problems, or feeling mentally "foggy" can be side effects of some psychiatric medications. If these issues are interfering with your work, school, or other responsibilities, you should discuss an adjustment with your doctor.
Physical Functioning: If you’re feeling excessively fatigued, weak, or uncoordinated, and these symptoms are affecting your ability to function normally, your medication might need to be reviewed.
5. You’re Experiencing Mood Swings
Mood instability can indicate that your current medication dosage is not well-suited to your needs.
Inconsistent Moods: Frequent or intense mood swings, such as sudden shifts from depression to irritability or from calmness to anxiety, may suggest that your medication needs to be adjusted.
Cycling: For individuals with bipolar disorder, rapid cycling between depressive and manic or hypomanic states while on medication could indicate that the medication is not effectively stabilizing your mood.
6. You Feel Emotionally Numb or Flat
Feeling emotionally numb or flat can be a side effect of some psychiatric medications, particularly antidepressants.
Lack of Emotion: If you notice that you’re feeling disconnected from your emotions or unable to experience joy, sadness, or excitement, this might be a sign that your medication dose is too high or that you’re on the wrong medication.
Loss of Interest: A significant loss of interest in activities you used to enjoy can also indicate that your medication is dulling your emotional responses too much.
7. You’re Experiencing Withdrawal Symptoms
If you’re experiencing withdrawal symptoms, it could indicate that your body is not responding well to your current medication regimen.
Missed Dose Effects: Experiencing symptoms like dizziness, headaches, or irritability when you miss a dose could mean your medication needs to be taken at a different frequency or that you’re on a medication that causes dependence.
Tapering Issues: If you’re trying to taper off a medication and experiencing significant withdrawal symptoms, you may need a slower tapering schedule or a different strategy.
8. You’re Developing Tolerance
Over time, your body can become tolerant to certain medications, meaning the same dose is no longer effective.
Decreased Effectiveness: If you find that your medication worked well initially but has gradually become less effective, this might indicate that you’ve developed a tolerance and need a dosage adjustment or a switch to a different medication.
Increasing Dosage Needs: If you feel the need to increase your dosage frequently to achieve the same effect, discuss this with your doctor as it could be a sign of tolerance.
9. You’re Having Suicidal Thoughts
Suicidal thoughts or behaviors are a serious sign that your medication may need to be adjusted immediately.
New Onset of Suicidal Thoughts: If you begin to experience suicidal thoughts after starting a new medication, it’s crucial to seek medical attention right away. Some antidepressants, especially in young adults, can increase the risk of suicidal thoughts initially.
Worsening Suicidal Ideation: If you had suicidal thoughts before starting medication and they have worsened or persisted, your treatment plan needs to be reassessed urgently.
10. Your Life Circumstances Have Changed
Changes in your life, such as stress levels, physical health, or other medications, can affect how well your psychiatric medication works.
Increased Stress: Significant increases in stress due to life changes like a new job, relationship issues, or a major loss may require an adjustment in your medication to better manage your mental health.
Physical Health Changes: If you develop a new medical condition or start a new medication for a different health issue, this could interact with your psychiatric medication, necessitating an adjustment.
Conclusion
If you notice any of these signs, it’s important to talk to your healthcare provider about your current medication regimen. Adjustments might involve changing the dosage, switching to a different medication, or adding another form of treatment, such as therapy. Open communication with your doctor is key to finding the most effective treatment plan for your mental health needs. Never adjust or stop your medication on your own without professional guidance, as this can lead to serious health risks.
