small PSA: if you shop at craft shows or artist alleys, please bring more than apple pay or a virtual card - especially if you're not comfortable entering your card number manually. not all of us have fancy card readers, so please also bring your physical card or cash, even if it's only as backup 👍

It Sucks For Both Of Us!#when i say there are small businesses in the artist alley i mean some of us are Small #i don't speak just for myself but for other artists who have this trouble as well. some folks are just starting out and some folks #just do this for a hobby and can't afford or can't justify the bigger terminals yet or at all #if i get into ACEN again next year i'll opt for a terminal but they're Pricey and not something to start out with y'know #if you want to be an artist's best friend though? pay in cash.#not to mention if there's technical or wifi trouble - cash just works 100% of the time. no reader or wifi will stop you from using cash.#semi related but i had someone try to pay with apple pay at my last show and i said they'd have to enter their number manually then #and they said they'd go find their partner and see if they had card/cash. and then while they were walking away from their booth #their friend asked why and they said it wasn't safe. on one hand i can't be mad because its VERY good to practice card safety!#on the other hand. you're entering it into the same app that would process a swipe payment. it's exactly as safe as if you'd swiped it #i promise as long as you're entering the number into a square app your card info is safe lmao #anyway yeah a lot of us aren't Big Businesses. please just be courteous and bring some traditional payment methods Just In Case

Jere phenomenon - the more he dorks around, the more smart he seems.

But seriously, the awareness and observation he has on surroundings at all times is scary. There were so many small moments when you can see him in split second deescalating jokes and making sure that everyone is comfy. I haven't been to a live concert yet, but even through the screen it's visible what level of crowd control he can pull. I bet he looks each of you in the face :D Especially for a man, this type of perceptiveness is very rare and requires a lot of hard work with yourself.

HI ok I gotta ask - your post has made me insanely curious - you mention having cash at hand while waiting for your new card (resourceful) but none of the sources of cash was a bank or ATM.

Where I'm from cash is still used a lot (as we minimum wage workers get paid in cash) and as a result there are multiple ATM's within walking distance at all times and banks no more than 15-20 minutes drive away. Is this... different where you're from? (For context I'm from Africa)

We get paychecks directly to the bank account here, and I usually just pay with my card everywhere I need to, because it's more convenient than having a lot of coins and bills around. While there are ATM machines here (there are several within a walking distance from where I live), you use them with your card, so without having one, I can't get money out of the money withdrawing machine. I don't know how you do it, but without a card I can only get money out of the bank account by (online) bank transfers, and that's pretty hard at grocery store register.

Our bank offices stopped handing out cash several years ago, of which I am still very salty about.

I got some cash from my mom, and I had a handful of coins left over from the last time I had used an ATM a while back, but that's kinda rare for me, since most places accept card.

#I used to have cash savings last year but that was specifically for a tattoo in a studio that preferred cash payments #so I saved up by withdrawing a little bit of money every month to stash in my book shelf #but other than that it's generally easier to not handle cash #but like mobilepay links to the card so I need one to use it #and so does this delivery service app I've used before #linking to a card instead of directly to your bank account is safer #even if it makes it inconvenient if you lose your card #(it is only afterwards that I notice there's an option to close one's card TEMPORARILY in my mobile bank app...)#(but by that time I had already called my bank and terminated the old card and ordered the new one)#(hind sight is great)

People often give me a hard time about accepting both cash and card, and tell me it would be easier / better to do just one or the other, and don't believe me when I tell them my sales are split pretty well down the middle. I didn't even realize how precisely down the middle until I looked at my entire history of square sales just now —

The difference between the two is $23.

Just had such an intensely annoying experience i instantly lost all further motivation to do shit today

#trying to do laundry in my new building for the first time #put the load in try paying with my credit card where it says Insert Card Here #keep getting ERROR back #try with different cards #no luck #machine used to have coin slots but they have been removed so no way to put cash into it #finally spot ‘refill your card!’ box on the wall of laundry room #this machine only takes cash. says it takes $5 $10 $20s #luckily I have cash in my pocket. try to put $5 in #machine spits it out. WRONG BILL. INSERT $10 #ok so there’s a minimum i need to pay #leaving my laundry in the washer run upstairs to get more cash. I have some 20s and some 5s and some 1s #ok trying a twenty! machine spits it out. WRONG BILL INSERT $10 #machine literally only accepts 10s #try asking a guy in the lobby for change he’s got $3 total #have to leave my laundry leave the building run to the (get this) laundromat next door #ask for change for a 20. am eyed with suspicion #laundromat next door has exactly one 10 dollar bill in the place #am able to go back and buy a card (this cost $5) and put money on it and pay for the washing machine #this building is run by sick freaks

Me when I'm listening to the most stupidest story about my mom giving my brother $1500 for a down payment for a 2nd car while his in the shop for a deer hitting him and him losing the nonrefundable $1500 cause he drove 2 hours away to a scummy dealership and he didn't get approve for enough credit from the bank

#like... idk maybe cause I don't have a son but does anyone else have experience with a mom acting delulu for their son???#like... 1st she paid $17k for the brand new 2022 which he traded in behind her back so he can get a 'fast car'#he got in an accident in the fast car mom put the parts to repair on her credit cards #since now the fast car wasnt pretty any more with mixmatch parts he traded in that car for a lexus for payments #which is dumb cause the whole excuse on why he traded in the 2022 cause he didn't want payments #he hit a deer with the lexus and i guess he thought they was gonna total the car cause he was already looking for a new one #but they gonna fix the lexus but he still went to try to get that car...#and that lady just agreed to it...#he owes her thousands of dollars...#she keeps on saying 'oh well he got a new job making $17 an hour and plus he's working a part time he's gonna pay me back #he's been saying that since he traded the 2022 and he barely paid you anything...#like why are you enabling his impulse purchasing???#he thinks these cars are like toys or something and you just letting him use your cash and credit like that...#then she's like... yeah it's not really ironic joking, not gonna lie i'm doing quite badly irl what with how badly the american education system is structured (especially medical education and how particularly hellish it can get). i don't wanna burden you with the sheer weight of all this horrible shit and i don't spend much time on here anymore. but thank you for the offer though, sincerely

#i need a therapist considerably but my parents are extremely against it and get angry to the point of yelling if i even try to bring it up #i think it's a cultural thing. seen as a sign of weakness and not being a 'good child'#the only reason i need to even care about that is because med school costs some $60k a year and they're directly controlling my funds.#the only thing i can use freely is the limited amount of hard cash i have since they have control over my credit card and see very purchase #i'm not making any money as a med student and we don't have any time to take on a job #i still have 2 years to go until my wages become maybe like $15 an hour as a resident physician.#the one parenting-related thing my parents can do correctly is use money on me. it's all that's standing between me and ridiculous debt #without that i'm sunk and potentially homeless (and many years of crazy amounts of studying become functionally useless)#fun and cool abusive and overly-controlling chinese parent-child dynamics #borne of generational trauma forced upon the new gen by the last gen. and that theme happens a lot in med education too. funny that.#i bet it all sounds so stupid but that's how it is.
