Echoes of Wisdom Headcanon Countdown
༺ Day 37▪︎ 62 Left
Rather than being the same incarnation, the Zelda in Oracle of Ages and Seasons is the successor of the Zelda in A Link to the Past. She bears a striking resemblance to her, OoT Zelda, and Marin (depending on what she's wearing, as her physical appearance seems to be a cross of each of them. In terms of Hyrulean history, she is less recorded and well-known in comparison to them. But with her sacred power to foresee evil, perhaps there are certain adventures of hers left unspoken...

Echoes of Wisdom: Timeline Placement
Tumblr media
First, we need to remember that the Zelda timeline was updated in 2017 in the Hyrule Encyclopedia. With that update, the Links that are the "same" in each game were updated. The Hyrule Hystoria timeline many are familiar with is from 2011.
Here we can see: ALTTP/LA = 1 Link OoS/OoA = 1 Link ALBW/TFH = 1 Link
Tumblr media
Maps: Close to each other but not exact. Very close to EoW and I've seen quite a few posts of similarities floating around so I'll move on. ALBW has a statue in the field or rocks while ALTTP doesn't, for example. OoA/OoS maps not relevant.
Tumblr media
Ganon's similarities across the existing games to EoW are pretty easy to see. He's got elements of all of them.
Tumblr media
Next up is Zelda:
Tumblr media
ALTTP and ALBW designs are very similar to each other, but not exact. Oracles Zelda also has some similarities, but stands out a bit more.
Tumblr media
Now look at all these similarities! At first you'd assume she's the same Zelda as ALTTP or ALBW, but that pesky purple girdle? girl-loincloth? Anyway, that's on OoA/S Zelda. Once again, her starting outfit is a mix of all three games.
Where does that leave us? With a high chance that Echoes of Wisdom is a new Link and Zelda, sitting somewhere before or after Oracle of Seasons/Ages.

Introduction
This is a fan analysis about the results of 24 polls posted on Tumblr by the user @zeldatourney. Huge thanks to them to have organized this tourney.
(Keep in mind my first language isn't English, so I might make some minor mistakes)
This is a long post with multiple graphs, so I'm putting a "Read more" button here!
For each game, the question asked was "How high does [game] rank?" with 7 answers possible to choose:
S tier (One of the greatest)
A tier (A favorite)
B tier (I like it)
C tier (Meh)
D tier (I'd rather play something else)
F tier (AWFUL)
I haven't played this game
The poll started on the 2nd of December 2024 and ended the 9th of December 2024.
Disclaimer: This is not a representation of the Zelda community as a whole, but a result of people who saw and voted for the polls between those previously quoted dates.
For the rest of this post, I will simplify each game's name by its abbreviations. For example, "A Link To The Past" will be named "ALTTP". The polls didn't specify if it contains the original games or both the original games and the remakes. They will be named as such:
[TLOZ] The Legend of Zelda
[AOL] Adventure of Link
[ALTTP] A Link to the Past
[LA] Link's Awakening (DX) (+ the unnamed 2019 remake)
[OOT] Ocarina of Time (3D)
[MM] Majora's Mask (3D)
[OOS] Oracle of Seasons
[OOA] Oracle of Ages
[FS] Four Swords (Anniversary Edition)
[TWW] The Wind Waker (HD)
[FSA] Four Swords Adventures
[TMC] The Minish Cap
[TP] Twilight Princess (HD)
[PH] Phantom Hourglass
[ST] Spirit Tracks
[SS] Skyward Sword (HD)
[ALBW] A Link Between Worlds
[HW] Hyrule Warriors (Legend / Definitive Edition)
[TFH] Tri Force Heroes
[BOTW] Breath of the Wild
[COH] Cadence of Hyrule
[AOC] Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
[TOTK] Tears of the Kingdom
[EOW] Echoes of Wisdom
Collected data
Each poll being independent from each other, the number of votes varies from one poll to another.
Tumblr media
For each games, I added the percentage (as picked up from the HTML for a better precision). The result is either 99.999, 100 or 100.001, so I sometimes cheated to add or remove 0.001 somewhere. Tumblr doesn't give you access to the exact numbers of vote per option.
So before ranking the games, I have to show you first what games are the most played. Adding all answers and doing:
Played (%) = 100 - "I haven't played this game" (%)
I'll use colours to differentiate 2D games (in terms of gameplay) to 3D games. I'll also highlight spin-off games and multiplayer games.
Here are the games played by more than 75% of players:
Tumblr media
We can already see a huge pattern. All the 3D games are there. And the only 2D Zelda game to be played by 75% of players is ALBW. BOTW and OOT are the most played games of the sample, as those were huge turning points and both cultural and commercial success.
We can also notice the difference of 5% between the least played 3D game (MM) and the most played 2D game (ALBW).
Let's continue to look at the other played games:
Tumblr media
EOW is most likely low as it's the most recent game, at this time, but also because it's not a 3D game. And the hype train was low compared to TOTK. (3 months of anticipation compared to 4 years)
Tumblr media
And finally, the multiplayer games are the least played games, excluding COH. Also worth noting that all the spin-off games cited can also be played with another player, but it wasn't the main focus of the communication. COH being a musical tactical rogue-lite only appealed to a specific part of Zelda fans.
If these polls contained the CD-i Zelda games, Link's Crossbow Training and Tingle games, the score would probably be under COH, but we never know!
I'll keep these colours as labels, to recognize them better in the next images.
Alright. Time to share the ranking. Here is the global result, sorted by release date in North America:
Tumblr media
It's kind of a lot to see! Overall, the games are pretty liked. So first, let's take a look at the disliked games:
Tumblr media
Please note that the X-axis was zoomed, so we can see the result better.
We can already notice that AOL makes a huge contrast. As this game is considered as the black sheep of the franchise because of how different it is, its reputation mostly came from the difficulty of that game.
Almost a factor of 0.5 divides the first disliked game to the second. TFH the second disliked and the original TLOZ follows.
ALBW is the least disliked, with under 1%, counting D tier and F tier.
But notice the F-tier (red) line. It varies a lot, so let's take a look at the most hated games:
Tumblr media
Yep, TOTK is third, this time. As I don't personally think it's awful, it definitively disappointed many by being too close to BOTW and having a lot of issues BOTW didn't have.
Nobody voted "F tier" for ALTTP nor OOT. Same for OOS but keep in mind this game was the least voted one too!
Alright, enough for the hate! Let's look at the most appreciated Zelda games.
Tumblr media
Yep, the majority of Zelda fans like 22.5 out of 24 of the games! (TFH being exactly 50, I half-counted it!)
TWW is being almost unanimously appreciated, with almost 97%, and the second one to get this score is TMC, a 2D game, with more than 96%!
You can notice some gaps, like between ST and COH, and then between the Oracle games and TOTK.
Now let's look at the most loved games:
Tumblr media
5 3D games are in the top 5, except for SS and TOTK. TMC is very close to beat BOTW and remains the most loved 2D Zelda game. Notice how SS and TOTK make a huge gap between the game before and the game after, like voters use them as references. The two Hyrule Warriors games are, in a funny way, between the Oracle ones.
Let's add a step forward and look at the S tier only:
Tumblr media
Nothing changes for the top 9 games. However, EOW seems more nuanced and is less considered as best than TOTK.
Final results
And finally, let's rank them using the Majority Judgment:
Tumblr media
The Majority Judgment was created to propose a more democratic way to vote. Each candidate has multiple mentions, and you (the elector) must attribute one mention to each candidate. Since this poll uses this exact method of vote, I decided to rank them all using the Majority Judgment. To count using the Majority Judgment, you must focus on the 50% axis, and look at the category that crosses it (more than 50%). That gives you the tier, and the best tier wins.
When two or more candidates get the same tier, there are multiple ways to rank:
The first way is to put a line at the middle and see which line has the higher percentage. (Less precise but more simple)
The second way is to divide it into multiple tiers by doing the first method again and again until each candidates has a unique tier. (More precise but less simple)
But since I didn't want to compare B++++ to B+++-, I used the first method. It's my democracy and I do whatever I want!
Just keep in mind that depending on the way to count these games may be swapped:
ALTTP and LA
OOA and PH
AOC and HW
SO, for the data. Top 5 is TWW, MM, TP, OOT and BOTW. To be honest, I imagined MM to be a more nuanced game, or at least more controversial, since it has a unique concept.
The A tier only contains 2D games, except SS. TMC, ST and ALBW are the favourite 2D games. ALTTP and LA are always very close. The last one of the tier is EOW.
Only mainline games are in the S and A tier.
The first game of the B tier is a spin-off game, followed by TOTK.
TFH was one vote away from being in the B tier. And no surprise, AOL is the last one.
To sum up, according to the participants who voted for these polls:
S tier
🥇 The Wind Waker
🥈 Majora's Mask
🥉 Twilight Princess
⭐ Ocarina of Time
⭐ Breath of the Wild
A+ tier

Dungeon analysis! Part 2
The screaming owl statue
This statue is the same Twilight used to control in the future, to distract Wars and Hyrule.
Tumblr media
In Twilight Princess the Dominion Rod, is used to control Owl statues, another indicator that these statues are owl based.
Owl statues, like the dragon ones, could also be just a recurring hylian symbol of architecture. Since there also in MC,MM, Alttp, OoA+S, TP, Botw and Totk.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Columns with the ball on top
Those types of columns are often found outside of dungeons in LoZ 1.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But also in Minish Cap at the Palace of the Winds.
Tumblr media
Theory:
Since many things speak for Hyrule’s Era, there is the possibility that they really are in the Era of Decline, maybe at the end of that Era even.
If so, there are in a time long since Hyrule was alive, meaning the reincarnation cycle will take millennials to bring a new hero, which in LU canon would be Warriors.
The people in the future from the village, never heard of any calamity or tragedy big enough that a hero had to be involved. And I love how Jojo takes the long periods of peace in Hyrule in count for her story!
Also since these it what spook most to me: The moon cycle!
Tumblr media
Don’t think there will be any meaning to this but as a moon enthusiast I have to at least mention it.
Drink enough water your wonderful people!

This is a blog for sharing and spreading love for the smaller Zelda games in the fandom! See a full explanation here.
See the post with all the game infographics linked here.
CURRENT PHASE: POSTING!
The month of August is focused purely on created works, primarily new – we want you to make things! -- but also the old, we’re not picky.
Reblog the main posts we create with links to your works, or @thelittlelegends and use the tag(s) The Little Legends/thelittlelegends and whatever games you created for! We will try to reblog things we’re tagged in, but we still might miss some!
There is no such thing as a late entry! The posts will remain rebloggable indefinitely, but we may be less attentive once August is done in terms of reblogging your contributions back here.
IF YOU WANT TO TREAT THIS AS AN EVENT:
The “posting” month begins August 1st with Minish Cap, and ends August 31st, two days after Wind Waker is posted.
Hard mode: besides that this went up the day before... have every game entry done before the next game after it is posted.
Is there a reward? Not at the moment, but we will be deeply grateful and you will get showered with love for your services! If someone states an intention to try for completionism, perhaps we can work something out!
BRIEF GUIDELINES:
You may share other people’s work as well, but please find and @ the author on Tumblr (or comment on their AO3 if you can’t find a Tumblr url) if you do!
While we can't -- and don't want to! -- stop you from reblogging with stuff based in an AU, we ask that you focus on materials that highlight the setting and side characters of the game in question in the works you produce and share. Something that focuses on just Wind Waker Link isn’t as meaningful as something happening on Outset Island. A well-done Link’s Awakening Space AU (ala @ovegakart's short piece here) is very welcome!
Recommended tags for the games themselves usually follow these formats:
LOZ: [Abbreviation, eg. MC, AOL, OoA, LA, etc.] Legend of Zelda: [full name] [Full name] eg. Legend of Zelda (1986) or LOZ (1986) (Remember Tri Force Heroes is three words!)
I am unsure if there's a standard tag on Tumblr to disambiguate Four Swords (2002) from Four Swords (manga) but you can start using that if you'd like for this purpose!
Posting Schedule for games in August:
August 1st: Minish Cap August 3rd: Adventure of Link August 6th: Oracle of Ages & Oracle of Seasons August 8th: Cadence of Hyrule August 10th: Phantom Hourglass August 12th: Four Swords & Four Swords Adventures August 15th: Link’s Awakening August 17th: The Legend of Zelda (1986) August 19th: Link to the Past August 22nd: Tri Force Heroes August 24th: Spirit Tracks August 26th: A Link Between Worlds August 29th: Wind Waker

Which Ganon/Ganondorf lair do you think is the most liveable?
Most liveable? I would assume you mean “feels most like a home”.
So, we are immediately ruling out TotK Ganondorf’s lair because it is, quite literally, a hole in the ground. My dearest wife where ARE your standards 😔 FSA Ganon has a similar situation going on where his lair is in a basement chamber that he uses temporarily to fight Link...where does he hang around during the rest of the game? We don't know and the Deku Scrub super fans won't tell us. OoS/OoA Ganon also doesn't exactly have a lair; he gets resurrected and defeated right away...🥺
In a similar vein, we will rule out TP Ganondorf’s lair and HW Ganondorf’s lair since their lair is essentially Hyrule Castle that they took over. “But it’s a castle Bloo isn’t that very liveable?” you may ask. Sure, but in their case it’s more like it’s besieged, and until it is entirely claimed as his own there will always be that sense of unease that it will be taken back (and it does get taken back so). So, this leaves us with Zelda 1's Ganon and his lair in Death Mountain, ALttP Ganon and his lair in the Pyramid of Power, OoT Ganondorf and his gothic castle, and WW Ganondorf and his lair in the Forbidden Fortress. Well, I would say no to Death Mountain. It's more dungeon than it is liveable, and it is in a Hyrule where everyone lives underground because it sucks that bad. The Pyramid of Power, I would say, is a bit more refined of a lair. It has dungeon-like elements but it also seems like it has nice living accommodations, possibly. That being said, it is located in the Dark World, and it doesn't seem like the most "liveable" place if you catch my drift. That leaves us with OoT and WW. I feel like OoT Ganondorf's castle would probably have a liveable situation given how he redesigned his throne room (or organ room, to be more precise). It is floating over a pit of lava, and offers ample protection from enemies and unsolicited salesmen trying to get you in on a pyramid scheme. In other words, I do think OoT designed the castle to make it liveable for him so, as long as you like gothic edgelord architecture and design it should be fine. I feel like WW Ganondorf has a similar situation going on, where he redesigned the Forbidden Fortress to suit his needs while trying to find Princess Zelda. Personally to me, it feels more "homey" than OoT Ganondorf's castle. Maybe it's because he hasn't allowed his divine madness to ruin the overworld's landscape just yet, it is just a stronghold fortress in the sea. So tldr, a toss up between OoT Ganondorf and WW Ganondorf's lair. Personally I would prefer WW Ganondorf's lair.

Echoes of Wisdom Headcanon Countdown
༺ Day 8 ▪︎ 93 Left
Due to the difference in design and relationships (such as not knowing Link, for example), I imagine the Zelda seen in Oracle of Ages and Seasons is a different one than the one in A Link to the Past. She is more than likely grouped with her later on due to being closer in generation than many of her counterparts usually are to each other.
Post game, I imagine she becomes good friends with Ralph and the Oracles - to the point where Link feels the need to play the "chosen by the Triforce" card to go on important expeditions with the group in the future. Zelda doesn't mind, of course! Impa actually encourages they spend more time together, as there's a lot they can teach one another. Zelda can help Link to understand the Triforce, and Link can teach her about the past of Labrynna!

Ralph
Tumblr media
Design
Usually it's the girls who get unique and memorable designs, and the boys have to settle for a much more boring isekai mc-kun style look, but not here! This is amazing, bright blue frilly bell bottoms with purple stripe decorations! And the little wizard hat! And the 00's deviantArt OC edgy hair over one eye! The badass cape! Oh he has nail polish too! He is just great. In general he looks a little dorky but that's okay, it's a very memorable design. The cape fits the hero image he's trying to maintain, even if he's not very good at it.
The eyebrows are also a striking design element and even has plot relevance, but more on that later. So, uh, spoilers for Oracle of Ages? Or in general all of these potentially have spoilers for their respective games, not that I've warned about that before...
The frills and triangle pattern are elements that also repeat in the Oracles' designs. I really like this, they're all different so it doesn't feel like they're wearing a uniform, but it also gives the sense that the world has its own distinct fashion style.
In the entire LoZ franchise there are remarkably few friendly older teen/young adult male important npcs, or at least in the "attractive anime twink" style Link inhabits, compared to the situation with the girls (when almost all games have at least Zelda in the main girl role). And Ralph is one of the few exceptions, which I welcome. Or like I said in Nayru's entry, he's actually a lot shorter than I thought and might even put him in the "kid" category, but I elect to ignore that.
Character
Ralph starts out reasonably enough saying how he counts on Link with Nayru's safety, but quickly changes to stating that he doesn't think Link's help is needed after all. After Nayru is kidnapped he pops up here and there through the story on his own quest to save her, repeats how he will be the one to save Nayru and usually has a pretty condescending attitude towards Link ("Well, if it isn't Link! Dawdling about, as usual.") But he does offer some useful advice during his appearances, so he's willing to help and share information at least.
Later Ralph expands his heroism to wanting to save the general population in addition to Nayru, and even gets a moment where he is ready to sacrifice himself for the greater good despite being scared ("Maybe it is terrifying… But if I must, I must. To do nothing and live just isn't me.") In general he feels like he's the typical hotheaded shounen hero of his own story.
Towards the end of the game Ralph has to eat some humble pie when Link saves the day. After this Ralph apologises for his behaviour, praises Link, admits that he was the one who didn't accomplish anything, and outright says that he now considers Link his friend.
In general Ralph gets surprisingly much character focus for a character in a GBC game, he gets to show a lot of different emotions in different situations and even gets noticeable character development.
Role in the story
I would say that Ralph has the most well developed role out of all the characters in both of the Oracle games, which is peculiar since he isn't even the poster girl. He's the only one to get a proper arc, and has a lot of presence since he shows up in OoA regularly. And most importantly after Nayru gets saved after dungeon 6 out of 8, he is actually the final damsel in distress for OoA. The execution is a little different since Nayru's predicament is the usual kidnapped girl fare, while Ralph has to be saved from himself since he rushes to fight the end boss on a suicide mission. You see, after Nayru is freed from the villain's possession, the villain possesses the queen (in the past) instead, and it is revealed that Ralph is her descendant. So he intends to kill queen even if it means that he won't be able to be born. The way this works is a little clunky here since he already knows Link is able to undo the possession, so his sacrifice feels kind of dumb and reckless. Also he only survives because of plot armour because the villain could have killed him before Link takes over the battle but just chose not to. But points for trying I guess, this is still way above the writing the other characters in either of the two games got.
Considering how much focus Ralph gets and how actively he tries to contribute, it's a little shame how his actions don't really amount to anything. The most you can say that he works as the game's hint system because sometimes he points where the player should go next, but it would be nice if he got to do something more notable too.
I feel that he is similar to the original Pokemon rival (Blue) in that he's this cocky rival that shows up to mock you through the game, and the in the end you get to feel vindicated when they're defeated. Both of them are even actually helpful by sharing information too! Though I do feel kind of bad for Ralph since he's just so crushed at the end and just lies on the floor lamenting how he looks like a fool now.
I like that the revelation that he is the queen's descendant is foreshadowed a little (with how he knows about a secret entrance to the palace) and isn't just dropped out of nowhere in the finale.
Relationships
Ralph is a childhood friend and self-proclaimed protector of Nayru, acts kind of jealous about the possibility of someone else doing the protecting, and spends most of the game running around trying to save her. I don't remember instances where his behaviour could only be interpreted as romantic so make of that what you will.
Tumblr media
Surprisingly his most interesting relationship is with Link. Or he is the main character, but at this point of the franchise he usually doesn't get nearly as many character moments with even the main girl of each game so it's pretty big.
Ralph strikes a one sided rivalry with Link about the Nayru rescue, and then behaves in a condescending manner when they run into each other. However I find it interesting that he doesn't blame Link at all for Nayru getting captured in the first place, because it was Link who brought the disguised villain close to her in the first place. Or it wasn't Link's fault since nobody know about the disguise, but I would have imagined that Ralph would hold it against him.
Once Link is the one to save Nayru while Ralph did nothing he apologises properly, and starts preparing to take down the villain, even if it would cost him his own life. And then he starts throwing lines like "May fate bring us back together!", and later "Umm… Link… Don't forget me. I mean, I think of you…as a friend…" when preparing for his suicide mission. If this was a more popular and recent game people would ship these two way more but now they only have 5 results on ao3. Even the villain refers to him as Link's "dear friend".
Once the day is saved and everyone is hunky-dory Ralph comments how Link is amazing and apparently teases him for the embarrassing statue the queen put up for Link. Then they get a cute cutscene in the credits where Link tries to teach Ralph to do the spin attack with the sword, but he spins too much and gets dizzy. So we end on the note that they're friends now, with Link taking a mentor-like role.
He also gets a brief scene with the queen, with both being proud about the relationship, though the queen takes offense at being called grandmother. It's a shame they don't get to interact more, but it's nice that their relationship didn't go completely unaddressed.

Marin's timeline
ok, no one asked for it but-
In my AU, Marin was reincarnated as a seagull after Melody (alttp/L'sA Link) awoke the windfish, as in canon. But then, she goes into Linkle's area (as it is in hw : legend), but she doesn't stay. She comes into Waves' (tww/ph Link) area. That's why Waves knows Melody, because Marin told him about his friend/lover (also the king of ocean is, in my AU, the incarnation of the windfish in the adult timeline). So she still loves Melody despite the fact Koholint vanished because of him, and she traveled through the 3 timelines.
Also, (nothing to do with Marin) Ring (ooa/s Link) knows Woods (OOT/mm Link) because I assume that he's Raven from the OOA manga but in the defeat timeline. (He would be still alive after Ganon beats him, but was severely injured and quit Hyrule after the demon was sealed by Zelda and the 7 sages)
(and Raven is my fav character I love him !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Note
7, 11, and 15 for the ask game?
7. What's the weirdest thing (character) has done/ would do?
You didn't specify so random Link again... Hibiscus! (the Link from alttp, oos/ooa and la).
The weirdest thing he's done? That's a very long list of experiences to sort through XD Having an entire adventure be a dream was certainly up there though, as was repeatedly traveling back and forth between the past and the present-day. The current multiple-versions-of-yourself-time-traveling-disaster is probably one of the weirdest though. Meeting his successors is weird.
11. What's (character)'s opinion on their Zelda?
Randomly picked a Link again... Kaleidoscope! (Link from plain-old four swords).
Kal is really close with his Zelda, he's her best friend, and they've known each other since they were little. He respects her a great deal, and knows she's going to be an excellent ruler when she's a little older, but he also worries about her a lot ever since the whole Vaati mess. Once got into a bar fight on her account.

GEAR POST: HEADSTOCKS
Tumblr media
/it's time fuckers rambles under the cut
Left to right, top to bottom: (be aware that i can't describe very well)
Sequel (Hero of Legend - AlttP/OoA-S/LA):
4 string bass, left handed, based on fender. On the back, there's a small hibiscus sticker at the wood part.
Nelson (Z1/AoL):
fender left handed guitar. He puts the capo along the headstock (so that it doesnt points outward). His capo has a straight side and a round side, with the round side facing towards him. Capo color is similar to the Magical Boomerang (like in Z1)
Willie (TP):
has two main bass that he uses. Bass 1 is the shape shifter bass (right handed). Glowy neon blue ish on gray, my reference is Ibanez's GSR200B.
Other bass is based on a fender bass (left handed, precision bass). The paint is slightly chipped off and on the back, there's carvings of something similar to an owl's claw, as well as what looks like facial markings.
Has a fret wrap and capo is in his pocket (or he steals from Warehouse)
Warehouse (HW):
gibson-looking headstock. Capo is put right at the nut (where it Should Be according to him. Will fight if anyone says otherwise)
Boons (FS/FSA/Hero of Men):
based on the fender 5-string Right Handed precision bass, the one with the tuners to the headstock are completely black. Colored strings (green/red/black/purple/blue in that order, usually.) /no lore reason for the order i just think it looks good edit: I have lore reasons now and this is officially ret-conned. I will use a new color
Ton (WW/PH):
I never actually draw it, but I always imagine he plays acoustic. Slotted headstock with the capo put on top, and it sticks out. (his capo has two straight sides)
