Split Life: You get two health bars, both of which tick down from different sources of damage. Pvp, fire/lava, and drowning/suffocation for one; Fall damage, mobs, and explosions for another. The Void is instant death. You can survive with only one health bar intact but after it hits zero regen for it is locked.

I can actually imagine this leading to some interesting and unique traps lol.

OHH yeah... once you know your enemy is completely used up on one health bar after a bad nether encounter, what's stopping you from just... giving a friendly high five?
