A Story of Supply Chain Excellence
Lora Cecere, the Supply Chain Shaman, is one of my favorite writers about supply chain issues. She’s always right on target with ideas and metrics that aid companies in the pursuit of supply chain improvements. And she’s the essence of simplicity; it’s never that complicated to do, though the ideas may embody complex interactions and reactions. This article is an example. Lora and her assistant,…

This is just not true. Lockheed Martin has a 10% operating margin.
Meanwhile Pfizer has operating margins on par with the video game industry of 30% (more profitable but still not nearly the most).
And even if they were the most profitable, the market on the whole suffers from pandemics and wars which is why companies look for stability when deciding where to exist financially.
Even if war and disease were profitable for those industries they would be opposed by every other industry that would suffer for it.

the thing about being a disabled grad student is that if you want even half a chance you constantly have to not only reveal but interrogate and explain your softest most vulnerable parts. while people around you act like this is just completely normal and actually that is not the softest most vulnerable part of you and actually you are exactly the same as all of them. so you feel like you are in disguise as exactlythesame while also completely exposed. and you just have to live like that. absolutely insane

before and after trying out that pinterest “hack” of painting the chicken wire black. it really does look so much better — and the further away you are the more dramatic the effect. I had spare paint anyway so this was totally worth it.
#weweantica#I’m going to be doubling the size of the run in the next few weeks and I’m so excitedddd#eggs are expensive so I’d love to expand my flock enough that I can sell and give eggs to folks in the community too#because I’ll be able to sell for a lot cheaper than grocery stores to cover the cost of feed#it was really hard to find chicks this spring though!!#on a normal year you can get as many chicks as you want just about anywhere locally for like 25-50 cents per bird#starting in like late February through mid summer#this year no one has them until maybe July or August!!#which means since chickens need to be like 6 months old to lay… and they don’t lay in the winter…#so if you were actually relying on these birds as a source of income means you won’t be seeing anything til next year#I’m in a community with mostly very small <20 acre family farms so our margins are usually razor thin as it is#for many it will mean a pretty significant loss#part of the reason for chick scarcity is ofc the massive number of birds that have been destroyed due to avian flu outbreaks#because most of americas chickens are raised by the millions by like three megafarms#so infectious diseases are catastrophic#but also… there is a new fee on transporting live animals via usps this year#$15 per animal#which like if you are trying to get 200 chicks (a normal amount for a family farm broiler operation)#means you’re going from like $.25 per chick and nominal shipping#to like $6+$15 per chick this year#which again means you’re not making fuckin profit at a small farm scale#luckily I was able to call around and locate a dozen chicks locally that I can bring home end of this month#which is all I need#this will triple the size of my current flock lol#I spend a lot of time thinking about chicken economics when I’m doing all this just to be able to give eggs away for free anyway lol

"If enough of us vote third party for president, we could actually GET somewhere with our policy goals!"
Baby girl you can't even get a majority of third party/independents in a single state legislature. In the past 30 years there have been seven independent/third party state governors, and of those, only three were genuinely independent. The rest either got elected as a R/D and switched mid-term when they alienated themselves from their state party, got elected as I and then switched to R/D during their terms (with some of them having served the R/D parties before), or served as proxy candidates with heavy backing and support from one of the major two parties. Even VERMONT, a relative stronghold for independent/third party candidates -- the place that brought you Bernie Sanders -- doesn't have a majority of third party candidates. And when I call them a stronghold, I mean they are the only state (I know of) that consistently elects (less than a handful of) Independent candidates to the state legislature; the place is still dominated by Ds and Rs.
"The highest power in the land can't actually be voted on so there's no reason to vote for the democrats"
Hey princess here are some high school civics question for you: How are Supreme Court judges nominated? :) By what process are they appointed? Who starts that process? :) Why is the Supreme Court considered reflective of who has won the presidency? :)
#the reason you 'cant get anywhere' with your policies is bc youre not the political strategists you think you are#some of you barely know how your own government functions and it fucking shows#and it would be one thing if i looked in ur bios and u were like. 15 or smthg.#but 30?!?!?! you're 30 yrs old and you dont understand that the rsn rvw was overturned under biden is bc trump got his foot in the door???#youre 30 and youll rant abt the long lasting effects of reagan's presidential policies but you cant fathom trump might have left#a similarly long-lasting legacy??#youre 30 and you think the echo chamber you put yourself in on the internet is proof that clrly a vast majority of ppl agree w u#and theres no need to play politics when the democrats couls just wave their wands and fix everything if they werent so evil#despite the fact that both of the ladt two elections about half the population was voting for trump???#the tight margins btwn repub and democrat in congress shld tell you that#you are 30 and dont understand what strategic voting is?#youre 30 and you dont understand the difference between state laws and federal laws#youre 30 and youre upset that joe biden is a 'fascist dictator' but not in the way that gives you everything you want?#youre 30 and youre acting like biden and the dems operate in a vacuum without interference feom political enemies and#moneyed interests that have thrown up lawsuits and obstructionist tactics and misinformation#everytime the try to do something good?#youre 30 and you think palestine will be saved if joe's not in office when the only other viable candidate in the running#was cozy with netanyahu and advocated 'finishing the job' re:palestine and moved the embassy to jerusalem#in a clr fuck you to any palestinian feelings?#youre 30??? youre 30 and you never outgrew the 'mommy and daddy made me mad so I'm gonna smoke to get back at them' mentality???

Brett, like basically everyone else, gets SpaceX contracts with NASA and the DoD wrong, and if I hadn't just swaddled myself into bed I would describe exactly why in detail. so you get the sleepy short version. I'd like to say first that there's merit to what he says overall, but he's suffering from very common (typically willful) ignorance around SpaceX and aerospace contracting.
In short: NASA has saved billions via SpaceX contracts. Not only that, but SpaceX is the sole reason NASA can get astronauts to the ISS, which would have been problematic in February 2022 to say the least. These billions in cost savings are because there are things that needed doing (launch services) and SpaceX was able to do them well and cheaply. There were no public jobs lost. None.
In general in space capabilities, outside of pure science there is not and has never really been a public option. The so called public options have in fact been massive government subsidies to key industries and corporations, and jobs programs for specific congressional districts. The latter especially is true today.
This has been the case since the Saturn V. These have caused technical limitations, high costs, long development times, and extremely unsafe vehicles that have killed people. Arguing that SpaceX is stealing from the public here is absurd; they are stealing from Boeing and to a lesser extent ULA and Blue Origin.
But there's more to it than that: SpaceX has been part of a huge push by a new generation of NASA officials against entrenched aerospace contactors and their friends and lackeys. This is because Commercial Crew has been the guiding start of a new method by NASA called "fixed price" or "firm fixed price" contracting. Basically NASA contracts someone to provide a service, and they get paid EXACTLY X amount of dollars and only when they reach specific milestones.
Previously, the gold standard in NASA contracting was to engage in Cost Plus contracts. this is exactly what it sounds like: the contractors bid on a price, NASA agrees, but they make assurances to the contractors that they will be paid for all the costs of development and operations, no matter where they go, Plus an agreed upon award amount. The contractor determines those costs. If it sounds like this would allow a contractor to take extra years to develop and artificially inflate costs to get more money for payrole and the company, that's because that is exactly has happened consistently with NASA cost plus contracts.
That era of NASA contracts is dying precisely because it costs way more than firm fixed price, and fixed price contracts create incentives for timely delivery of operational services. It has been an unqualified success and saved billions, and Boeing, Lockheed and Northrup Grumman (yes, the bomb makers are also the Apollo contractors) have been quite unhappy about this change.
SpaceX has saved the DOD considerable millions in launch costs and has expanded their capabilities, particularly those of the NRO and USSF both through the lowered costs and increased cadence of launches, but also through certain starlink capabilities that are still being explored. (Whether or not starlink in particular is providing a necessary service in these cases or is getting some good ol boy money is beyond my present knowledge, and I wouldn't be surprised either way.)
Whether or not you agree with those capabilities it's frankly absurd to act like the NSSL contract is a SpaceX subsidy. They have a smaller share of the launches than ULA (who btw had previously been the sole provider - do liberals like Brett just pretend that old school private contractor milking was patriotic?) and the scheme is being expanded to ensure that as New Glenn, Nova and Neutron become operational, they can go through qualification for NSSL launches as well.
As a side note: I don't think anyone has a real grasp of how much money NASA moves to contractors. SLS + Orion+ mobile launch tower has probably cost more or less 10-15 times all the money SpaceX has received or is going to receive from existing NASA contracts. I'm not even sure that would factor in the legacy constellation contracts.
When commercial crew contracts went out, SpaceX was the outsider winner and Boeing was the legacy contractor. SpaceX got half the money Boeing did for commercial crew and they started work at the same time. SpaceX has since delivered more than half again as many extra launches of crew to the ISS over what they were initially contracted for. You might have heard about Boeing's Starliner in the news recently; it is yet to have a single successful operational flight.

Steps to makin a robot
Deconstruct the figure into pieces using your mind and do it lego origami style
Start with basic shapes in 3D Modeling software
Look at reference photos
Rinse, repeat, RECONSTITUTE THE BEING THAT IS FICTIONAL INTO REALITY AS YOU ARE THE BEHOLDER
Your whole 3D model is off by .25 mm and you need to readjust every part or start over from scratch
You end up starting from scratch

We all know that S3 is gonna be about the Second Coming-slash-Final Judgement blah blah blah blah blah but what i NEED is for Jesus to radiate so much little sibling energy™. I need them and Crowley to be a chaotic-sibling-bestie duo ok??? It's one of the only ways i can heal
#good omens#crowley#i need jesus to be a very chill dude (gn. they could be a little girl for we know) who pops out of the silver plane and surrounded by CIA#angel bodyguards and then they see Crowley and just fucking runs up to him to choke-bear hug hybrid him the way only little clingy sibs do#and then the angel operatives freak out#jesus: GASPS!!! HI BESTIEE🥰🥰🥰!!! how are ya doin?#crowley: what#angel mafia: !!!! AKDSKSDHASDJKL#and then crowley proceeds to kidnap him and then babysit him. they go to the barbie premier and the Eras tour and the bahamas and just went#around the world. leaving chaos in their wake. we're talking about confusion bafflement and maybe a whole ton of buffets being suddenly#replaced with fish and bread that could feed 6000 people. and then they fuck over governments without even trying and giving the poor the#queers the conspiracy theorists and all of the marginalized peeps everything they WANT#and where was aziraphale in all of this? stuck on heaven's top floor just seething that he can't go out cause the metatron locked him in.#the metatron angel-proofed the whole building just so aziraphale cannot leave. they're in lockdown and everyone is panicking. Aziraphale#the pedantic loophole-obsessed bastard that he is. was like "If they fucking angel-proofed superheaven then I'm gonna escape the good old-#fashioned human way. He then demolishes the glass with his bare fists. everyone screams and he walks out of heaven wearing#his tartan and shades because cool bamf angels don't look at the chaos they unleashed.

I wish timeslots were infinite! Because I'm enjoying this reread, but I'm also like, "okay but the time I spend on this is time not spent writing my fanfic, or writing tags on other people's posts." And then I was writing a reread post and IN THE MIDDLE OF IT got obsessed with Ganju and now I want to write Ganju fanfic. So I was like, okay, maybe I should pause the reread and write the Ganju fic while I'm here in this part of the canon! Use this as a pause function!
But then I was like, I AM ALREADY WRITING A FANFIC. And while it's not as though I haven't written other fanfic while writing this one (this being true of all of them except for the first two, from before I even joined this fandom), I'm like, okay, but I want to finish this WIP ever, though. I really do. Plus reading is usually easier than writing, so sometimes I can convince myself they are different tasks even if they live in the same task slot ("fandom")? (Though "reading" opens its own door into 'I am enjoying this reread but I also want to read fanfic!') Having too many active processing running in one slot ("fandom") really stresses me out. XP
I think really the takeaway of this story is 'I am bad at task-switching,' but my point still stands: I WISH TIMESLOTS WERE INFINITE. that would cure me
There's just too much Bleach that I wanna be Bleach-ing, at all times!! Bleachbleachbleach

hate how many fanfics that focus on The Smart Character boil down to “he is correct about everything and everyone who ever made a move against him is Wrong and the entire rest of the world agrees once they see sense so they rise up to punish the Wrong in defense of the special boy while showering him in all the praise and apologies he deserves but never got”
like damn dude maybe i just wanna read abt the smartass being a flawed but lovable idiot just like he and the rest of the cast always are, or perhaps an interesting and nuanced plot that doesn’t blatantly favor the author’s blorbos and reduce the characters they don’t like to convenient caricatures/punching bags

yknow the most unbelievable thing about star trek isn't the aliens, isn't dodgy dialogue or cheesy aesthetics or bad CGI, but rather the fact that the Federation, self-proclaimed "paradise", operates a prison system

Me at work this morning: You know, today seems like it may be manageable. My to do list is starting at only halfway down the page, and there are only like, three things I anticipate adding to it. This might be okay.
Me: *receives one message unrelated to work that requests I use executive function*
Me: *nearly breaks down in tears and has to spend the next hour and a half doing breathing exercises while I work in order to stave off a meltdown*
Me: Nope! Nevermind! This is still not okay!
