love your blog! can you talk about leather/leather dyke culture?

THANK YOU! and yes … i can always talk about it.

in post-stonewall lesbian communities throughout the 70s, 80s, and early 90s, leather coincided heavily with BDSM. in a lot of publications with lesbian entries on leather lifestyle, such as the majority of pat califia’s work if you want a place to start, you notice a lot of commentary that becomes very political. a lot of lesbian activists were also, necessarily, feminists; the women writing on their experience in both leather and lesbian-feminist communities often express regret and anger that, in engaging with these types of sexual cultures, they were rejected by feminist groups and spaces.

BDSM was hugely controversial to many lesbian-feminists, a lot of whom were escaping closeted immersion in heterosexuality, and they identified sexual violence as an inherently oppressive, degrading patriarchal tool. to leatherdykes and other lesbians who practiced some form of BDSM, this rigid perspective was outcasting and alienating.

leather is therefore both sexy and political … studying publications from SAMOIS and On Our Backs, as well as the various works and photography by lesbian artists like pat califia, honey lee cottrell, morgan gwenwald, catherine opie, etc. demonstrates their belief that leather is not only erotic, but also a symbol of reclamation, subversion, and refusal to conform - its not just for men, or gay men. and sex between two women doesn’t have to be a watered-down, puritanical sapphic rainbow daydream - it can be rough, carnal, perverse. leather was a symbol of their sexual agency as dykes, a way to signal autonomy, confidence, and dispel ideas of passivity that women’s sexuality had suffered from for so long - and, as they believed, continued to be perpetuated by the new wave of anti-pornography feminists. when viewed in this way, the leatherdyke lifestyle was entirely compatible with feminism.

besides that leather is erotic, in my opinion, because it serves a dual purpose of both flesh and armour. real leather was once the skin of another living animal, and feeling it against your own skin, the way it moves and catches light, creates this primal, raw sensuality … it evokes the sensation of a lovers body pressed against yours. the “second skin” also acts as an impenetrable barrier, an armour-like shell inside which you are protected, it can deflect the world’s judgements and within it you can endure anything and persist, just as tanning of hide prevents decay and makes it tougher, almost unbreakable. i think for this reason it makes for the perfect accessory to any stone dyke. nothing will make you feel more resistant, indestructible, and sexy as walking through the city or on public transit (places of high public scrutiny) wearing your leather armour, and it tells the hidden lesbians around you that you command a distinct and powerful type of erotic, dyke sexuality.

Kokushibo and Yoriichi are the same thing being twins. Since Kokushibo is often associated with purple and Yoriichi orange, I found a fish that could match both of them. Both twins are Biota Orangetail Damselfish mers. Only Yoriichi has unusually more orange on his tail.

Meanwhile Daki/Ume is a Pink Dragon Siamese Fighting Fish mer because I liked how pretty and flowing the fins were and it seems to match her well.

Gyokko is a mutated Blue eel mer. That's it.

Hantengu was a tricky one. I know I already listed a WHOLE BUNCH of the Kny characters as Betta fishes but I'll go ahead and say that Hantengu and his clones would all be a pod of Betta fish mers related to each other because honestly Betta Fish can come in literally EVERY color. So Urami and Hantengu are black betta fish mers. Sekido is a red one. Urogi yellow. Karaku green but a lighter green than Tanjiro. Aizetsu blue. And Zohakutan is a dark purple color.

Urokodaki would be a common goldfish mer and Jigoro is like Zenitsu and Kaigaku an electric eel mer.

Hairou would be a blacktip reef shark mer.

IN MY ERAS ERA ~

It was rare, I WAS THERE. I went to the biggest tour in music history, yes! I attended night 2 (in the pit) and night 4 (tribunes) in Paris. Honestly, there is no word to even describe the experience it was. I'm a concert girlie and there is nothing that can even come close to The Eras Tour. It's not just the concert itself but the whole experience : the friendship bracelets trading (warning : can be quite difficult for introverts!), the outfits... I can say it was, hands down, the best concert I've ever attended. The icing on the cake was literally Paramore being the opener! My inner teen was so happy, even more when they sung Decode on night 4.

So for the nail art, I decided to do the album artworks for 5 Taylor Swift's albums. I like when my 2 hands are symmetric so I did the 5 same albums on my 2 hands. I really tried to reproduce the typo used for each artwork. I think I did quite a good job. I especially like the rep one. At first, I wanted to do a friendship bracelets nail art but I miserably failed so... lol.

For the concert, I did the Reputation and Lover eras for my outfit but if I have to do a top 3 of my favorite albums I would say : 1989, Reputation and Folklore. The order is just chronological because honestly I would be unable to really rank them lol.

Juice lets out a sigh of relief the moment Mickey walks into the room. The last time he saw him, back in January, the guy looked terrible. Exhausted. Overwhelmed. Hard to place exactly, but he’s known him long enough to know when something isn’t right. And something wasn’t right.

But today, he’s practically glowing. All the guys gather around a round metal table in the visiting area of the prison discussing sales and alliances and cash flow, but Mickey’s not even here. Gazing off into space somewhere with hearts in his eyes. He’s lucky the rest of the guys are oblivious idiots because if anyone actually took one look at him they’d know they’re looking at the face of a man who’s madly, deeply, hopelessly in love. 

Juice has to kick him under the table when the meeting starts wrapping up. When some of the guys start heading out, a few staying behind and splitting off into multiple side conversations. He and Mickey are nothing new. Every one of the dudes is full of secrets. Some just better kept than others.

Juice shoots Mickey a nod across the table, face serious, somber, like he’s got something important to discuss. Something much more serious than his need to pry into what has his best friend looking like he could shit rainbows.

He leads them to a more private corner. At least private as you get in a prison visitation room. But he ain’t worried about the guards. Everyone who needs to has been paid. 

“What you been smokin’ and where do I get some?” Juice asks, all seriousness dropped as soon as he’s got his back to the room. He punches Mickey in the arm across the table like a baby brother.

“Fuck you talkin’ about?” Mickey grumbles, all put-upon grumpiness.

“Uh-huh, okay. Ope mentioned you ducked out for a couple days. What’s that about?” 

Mickey scans the room. Clocks the guard against the far wall. Opie and Jax in the opposite corner scrolling through photos of Jax’s kids on Opie’s contraband phone that no one gives a shit about. Then finally answers, quietly, “Took a little trip with Ian.” 

Juice’s feet dance with excitement under the table. He knew there was gossip to be had. And yeah, Mickey’s his best friend, he’d be interested in his life regardless, but especially now, he’s low on entertainment. There’s only so much whining about who’s whose bitch or who’s gonna get fucked first when they get out that a man can take. Makes Juice want to scream. He knows he won’t. Knows he’ll keep playing along. Keep keeping his own secrets. But fuck he could use something different to obsess over.

“Knew that smile had something to do with—” Juice lowers his voice to a whisper “—him.”

They’ve known each other for years. Done all their adult growing up together. Gone through all sorts of shit together, club related and otherwise. But Juice has never seen him this happy. This light. 

The guy has always had his demons. Never talked about them. They’ve all got their own shit. But Mickey’s haunted him differently than most. Darker. Deeper. 

Until now. Until this Ian dude showed up. Juice doesn’t know this kid yet, but he’s already so, so grateful for what he’s doing for Mickey.

“Nothin’ like a good weekend of fucking to cheer a guy up,” Mickey says, rolling his eyes like Juice is an idiot. 

“That smile ain’t just fucking.” Mickey isn’t getting off that easy. “Somethin’ else happened.”

Mickey rolls those eyes yet again and sighs. “Nothing happened, we just…” He trails off, reaching into his pocket. Seems confused for half a second when he remembers all his shit’s stored outside the security gates. Then continues on all flustered, cheeks blushing a burning red, “We just had a good time. I—fuck—I…”

“Come on. Don’t hold out on me now. I gotta go sleep in a cell tonight. A cell, bro. Gimme something,” Juice pleads.

“I fucking love the guy, okay?” It comes out quick, a hushed, annoyed whisper shot directly at Juice and Juice alone. “Spent a weekend away from those asshats with someone I love.”

Juice physically slaps a hand over his mouth to contain his would-be embarrassing squeals.

“Hate you so fucking much.” 

Mickey’s boot kicks him hard under the table. Juice jumps. The metal bench clatters. A guard looks over, faux threatening hand on his holster. Like the fucker has the authority to do shit around here.

“Happy for ya, brother.” “Yeah, yeah.” Mickey brushes him off but there’s still no hiding that smile. That look. Juice hopes one day he’s able to wear that look around everyone, not just here. Some day. Some place.

“Anyway, I uh—” Mickey clears his throat, letting his voice rise louder as he pulls an envelope from his pocket “—brought you a letter from your girl. One out in Stockton.”

“Oh, cool. Thanks.” Juice knows he isn’t winning acting awards but whatever. “Yeah. Miss that bitch.” 

He pulls out the folder paper and takes a brief peek. It’s a sketch of an unknown yet familiar woman, naked from the waist up. The strokes are in Mandy’s familiar style, the edge of the page roughly torn. Years ago, she’d taken a figure drawing class. Mickey had snaked her sketchbook from the course and has been slipping Juice drawings of this same model every now and then any time he’s locked up.

Little bits of something to tape up to his wall beside his bunk. Something to point at when some dude starts looking at him like that and say “Nah man, sorry, but my girl would kill me”.

Just one of the small ways they’ve looked out for each other. And now Mickey’s got one more person looking out for him, too.

It's Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day. 🌈💗 Jeremy, Opie, Cleo, and Nikki were the main 4 of my later childhood. I still remember the ones who passed when I was still a kid. The way their fur felt, even their scents are still in my memory. There are truly too many cats to name that have been in my life since before even I was born, but some honorable mentions here that I was able to find pics of: Sweet-Thang, Rabbit, Monster, and Angel Baby.

This week’s nail art is for the past week of Pride.

Every bottle from my Holo Taco rainbow collection is more than half empty, thick, and gloopy. I need to replace them, but I want to get the pastel and dark rainbow collections as well, so I’m holding off until I can afford the Rainbow Trilogy bundle. But saving up nearly $300 to spend on nail polish all at once is not easy when you’re an underpaid transcriptionist and other, more important expenses keep coming up.

It was me Dio with red glitter Pastel Dio with the stone mask and Dio's famous hand/joestar mark pose with black and multiglitter

-Need a keychain/keytag? Dio has your back. There's an embroidered one here and a little SDC Dio rubber one here and this hilarious "diodorant" acrylic one

-There's a DIO and The World kimono wrap here if you want to wear your man and his stand in public >:D or there's a super cool Dio sweatshirt here

-If you'd like a few more gothic vampire-inspired accessories, there's this bat and ankh necklace and these red teardrop earrings that kind of remind me of blood

-Keeping with the gothic vibes, there's this claw ring that reminds me of Dio's pointy nails

-For nail polish options inspired by dio, obviously you could do a basic black, but here are a few others:

Go Garnet Sally Hansen Insta Dri (almost black with a little hint of red!!! I saw it in person the other day and it was perfect)

For a shade inspired by Dio's nail color from JoJo World 2, I found the Sally Hansen miracle gel shade Hollaa-Gram (which has a green shift, which is a fun nod to his SDC color scheme)

Then this swatch online of OPI's "I'm Not Really a Waitress" looks very similar to the original product shade.

-To match elevated Dio's green lip, I suggest either Sephora's 70 Margs (which I have tested and it's good as a Jolyne lip too!) or a deeper shade liquid lipstick in Dark Forest

-If you're more into a blood red lip, here's a pretty Dior shade (because I've always though Dio's name influence came both from the band DIO and the fashion brand Dior)

-When Dio was younger in Phantom Blood, we saw him read books (specifically Araki's Gorgeous Irene in the anime and you can find a copy here) and he enjoyed playing chess (so here's a small magnetic set you can keep around and play to remind you of him)

-This one is kind of a joke reference, because I looked up Stone Mask and found beauty products instead of a JoJo replica xD but here's a Dio green stone mask you can chill in the fridge and relax with

-Dio enjoyed wine frequently as a young adult and then after turning, obviously, blood. If you're fine with alcohol you, can sip red wine to think of him, or sparkling red grape juice instead for a nonalcoholic alternative!

-You can also watch some classic vampire movies like Twilight, What We Do In The Shadows, Dracula, etc as a solo date night. Order in pizza and have your own private movie night!

-For Dio's musical name influence, you can listen to songs from DIO like Rainbow in the Dark and Straight Through the Heart

-As always, I recommend writing your f/o a letter (either in a journal or on @ jojolovenotes), sketching your favorite screenshots, rewatching the episodes your f/o shows up in, and making a playlist inspired by your f/o (including their music namesakes).

I had an amazing day. I spent the entire day with my sister. We spent four hours at the mall. We were on a quest for a few things, but we walked the whole mall and browsed stores, and even dabbled in some retail therapy. I was pretty good, though, and said no to a lot of things that were calling my name. Let’s see, in a beauty store I got some purple hair dye for when my color fades more, a nail file and buffer, and a bottle of OPI gold flecks that was on clearance; I got a Christmas gift for one of my nephews in Boxlunch; 2 new much needed bras in Victoria’s Secret (I had a birthday coupon and one was half off!; a drink at Starbucks using my stars and a drink for my sister using money on my Starbucks card; and lunch at a Chinese place in the food court. We succeeded in most things on our quest, and with everything that we bought and all that we did, we both felt very accomplished! When we got back to her house I played legos with one of my nephews for a while. He has this whole incredible story with characters and fleshed out ideas and we all keep telling him he has to write it down. So that’s what we were playing. After a while I looked at my Fitbit and saw it was after 5! I still had to go to Walmart to pick up a few things, so I agreed to come back over tomorrow afternoon to play video games. At Walmart I treated myself to a two-pack of Grogu slippers for $6. You can’t beat that! I’m currently wearing the rainbow pair and they are so soft and comfy. :)

Tomorrow I’m going to spend most of the day with my sister again. We are going to purchase tickets for a tricky tray that’s in a few weeks. It’s huge, with hundreds of prizes and well over a thousand attendees, and we all go every year. Then I have physical therapy for my shoulder.* After PT I’m going back to watch Ghosts with my sister and just veg before my nephews get home from school.

*PT yesterday kicked my ass, but I’ve already made progress. My passive range of motion has gotten better, but it’s nowhere close to full. I’m impatient and want it to get better, but tomorrow is only my third session. Today I’ve been sore from all of the work I did yesterday and I’m sitting here with ice on my shoulder/upper arm. The pain isn’t really in the shoulder, it feels like it’s my deltoid.
