A rare atmospheric phenomenon where an observer's magnified shadow, encircled by a halo, is projected on clouds, also known as Brocken Spectre.
The "spectre" appears when the sun shines from behind the observer, who is looking down from a ridge or peak into mist or fog. The "spectre" is the magnified shadow of an observer cast in mid air upon any type of cloud opposite a strong light source. If the cloud consists of water droplets, a bright area called Heiligenschein, and halo-like rings of rainbow colored light called a glory can be seen around the head or silhouette of the spectre.
