The Dawa
Dawa means “medicine” in Swahili, and this drink, which is now a favorite in Kenya, first came over from Brazil.
Ingredients: 1 teaspoon sugar  2 fl oz vodka crushed ice cube 1 whole lime, quarter with skin on 1 dawa stick, twisted in honey (any wooden stick, such as a honey stick, will work)
Directions:
Put lime and sugar into a whisky tumbler. Crush limes slightly, add ice and pour in the vodka. At this point you twist a dawa stick into some honey and add the stick to the drink. Muddle limes with dawa or honey stick. The more you crush the limes into the mixture and stir the sweeter the taste.

belated happy vesak! went to our local temple and participated in the saga dawa puja
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i also did a solo merit-making gubat banwa game!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the solo game, the Mantrika Busalian Rasru and their consort vajra Bladeweaver Bajregame travel on foot across a dense forest traveling to the Kuta Ragam in an island in the Gatusan Isles. While traveling, they came across a weeping diwata.
The diwata resided within a single spirit house in the middle of Utoragam Wood. It wept because a band of unmeritorious warriors from the nearby town were coming to destroy the shrine. Rasru and Bajregame were sensitive to the cries of the diwata.
The three warriors saw Rasru and Bajregame coming to the god's aid. Aggravated, they yelled their reason: "Raja Rangin must see to it that the diwata is pushed out, so that the new gods may settle in."
"But this diwata has been the steward of this land for centuries."
"Then they must be tired of their duties!" And the warriors entered violence. Unfortunately for them, both Rasru and Bajregame were inducted into the ways of both violence and of sorcery. They're Kadungganan, after all.
In the chaos of the fight, the diwata's spirit shrine was damaged heavily by wild swing axes from the large leader of the gang. But Bajregame's mastery over Eskrima Mahika proved true, and she struck him down quickly with an intricate flying sword combo to prevent harm.
The kamikam assassin wielding two knives leapt up immediately to imbue many bleeding strikes upon Rasru, who was busy performing mudras to ready his sorcery. With a flex of sakti, they unleashed scathing magicks that punctured and then bound with a slowing poison.
"All things have the right to liberation," Rasru uttered, as they defeated the last of the warriors, an archer too cowardly to fight up close. They were all incapacitated, one way or another, but not killed. With an utterance of a mantra, roots came to bind them.
With all the ruffians bound, Bajregame took them up and begins carrying them out to the nearby river, where they will awake discombobulated. Rasru performs obeisances to the god, and says: "May you walk in light."
The diwata spoke to them, then. "I thank you, and whatever illumination leads you! Here, take the offerings."
Rasru refused them. "I am no biksu, give them to someone in need. May the ancestors and the annusattva grant you joy."
"You speak in interesting songs. Pray, herald to me what vehicle you ride." And so Rasru spoke to him of the path of Annuva and the teachings of Kritanagara, Violence Annusatva, as taught to him by the Witch-Monk Sri Dvaya Sattva.
When Bajregame returned, the path of the Annuva had been sung to the diwata, who found it interesting at the least. "I will have to go to the nearest monastery, then," he would say. "Or perhaps find dewa (sky gods) to ask about this."
"I am glad you are interested in liberation. Walk in light." And with another bow and folding of hands, the two Kadungganan were off.
When the three ruffians awoke, still bound, the diwata spoke to them about the Law of Annuva.
"Proselytizing? I did not expect that to be among your list of skills," spoke Bajregame as they neared Kuta Ragam.
"Still the thought. Not one I have proselytized to. I sing and only I sing. Until all beings are free."

we are not numbers, a youth-led nonprofit and platform in gaza for palestinian youth to tell their stories, has lost THREE of their writers or former writers to israel's genocide just in the past two weeks: yousef maher dawas, mahmoud alnaouq, and huda al-sosi.
please read tributes from other WANN writers about each of them.
yousef wrote a piece called "who will pay for the 20 years we lost?" that was published by WANN on january 14, 2023.
mahmoud was the brother of WANN co-founder ahmed alnaouq. he conducted interviews that informed the piece "palestine and venezuela in 'one trench'", written by pam bailey and published on april 2, 2019.
huda was a member of the newest WANN cohort and had not yet published anything on the WANN webiste, but she published the following two pieces in the electronic intifada: "braving israel's bombs to hug my parents" in may 2022, and "gaza's queen of quilling" in august 2022.
please read these and keep their loved ones in your thoughts. they should be alive to share their stories themselves.

🦋[Metal Butterflies]🦋
"The actions we took had consequences, it was our duty to take them responsibly"
In a world where Korra escapes from the South Pole and upon arriving at the Air Temple she only meets Tenzin, who is being overwhelmed by his new role as minister, he cannot go with her to train her because he promised to take over that position.
Why? Well, her niece, Dawa, is about to give birth and she must take her leave from the council.
Korra manages to be accepted on the island and now she will learn there, and she can also find out more about her mysterious teacher, a seemingly solitary Tenzin who only surrounds himself with his acolytes... Although, when the sun rises, a young lady with a sullen expression appears out of nowhere and calls her teacher "father."
Where did it come from?
🦋
Hello! I've come up with a rather ambitious AU, sorry if the approach is so ambiguous, below you will have some visual support for two original characters that "influence a lot"
🌻Dawa🌻
Tumblr media
I'm not going to be mysterious, playing connect the clues is Korra's job, not ours jsjsjs
Dawa is a 34-year-old airbender, a minister in Republic City, and the first granddaughter of Avatar Aang and the Beifong Clan.
She is a cheerful woman who is always looking for a way to help. She is going through her first pregnancy, so she has decided to distance herself from the council. Tenzin, being the good guy that he is, has offered to cover for her during her leave.
She has trouble seeing from a distance so she carries her glasses with her, Korra wouldn't meet her until the party that Tarrlok organizes.
Tumblr media
She was fortunate enough to grow up with Aang, she learned her bending from him, she spent a lot of time at the Island Temple so she is also close to the acolytes and her uncle Tenzin.
Yes, she is Lin's daughter, and she had her when she was around 17, so her upbringing was the responsibility of the entire family (Katara, Aang, Tenzin, Suyin, etc.) a group effort to allow Lin to finish the police academy.
Tumblr media
When Aang died Dawa was 18 years old, it was a pretty hard blow for her because she saw him as a father figure.
She spent years on pilgrimage as a form of therapy, not settling in Republic City again until he was about 28.
She often clashes with Lin, but they love each other quite a bit. She had a distant relationship with her father, Bumi, in her childhood, but they became quite close when she manifested her element.
She has problems relating to her siblings, and deeply fears that she won't be able to be a good mother, so she puts it off quite a bit.
🫀Yeshe🫀
Tumblr media
She is the second daughter, she is 17 years old and unlike her sister she did not live with Aang, she was barely one year old when he died.
She is very similar to Lin, both physically and emotionally. She was born and raised in Republic City, primarily in Temple Island.
Although she is almost the same age as Korra, she doesn't meet her until she arrives on the island. Their close age allows them to make friends fairly quickly; she is more of a bawd than she seems.
She has a very bad relationship with Dawa, but it's even worse with Bumi, she doesn't even call him father and avoids hanging out with him at all costs. She's a mama's girl through and through, she wants to be Lin's pride at all costs, she knows she can't be "the world's favorite" because unlike her brothers she doesn't bend air and she's self-conscious about it, but at the same time she's the only one who can be seen as "Just a Beifong" and she clings to that title with her nails.
Tumblr media
Lin was more present in her upbringing so they are closer, there is a conscious effort to not let Yeshe develop the same tendencies as Lin, but that's okay, Yeshe doesn't want to just "follow in her mother's footsteps", she wants to take care of her, so she will put on the uniform and stand up against crime.
When Yeshe was very little there was an attempt by Lin to separate herself from Bumi so he was not present in her daily life, that made Lin's work life difficult until Tenzin began to give support, Yeshe ended up seeing him as her father and refuses to take away that title.
Tumblr media
Yeshe may not really remember it but both Aang and Toph were present for her birth and pampered her to bits.
Aang was more aware of the damage he had done to his children through favoritism and misinvested attention; he did not want his granddaughters to grow up under that umbrella.
After all, they were both his little princesses.
🦋
One child is missing! But little Tsarlis will have his own post.
This is a rewriting job too so I'll take some time between each post about it (As with everything, I'm very scattered, you know that)
And that's it, we'll go into more detail about this story, but if you're curious about something, you can ask (?)
Anyway, we'll be reading each other again~

Really small question (please don’t ask why I’m spamming in your inbox)
Where the fuck were Amaris’ parents.
like yeah i guess they’re probably dead but like adopting exists or dawa was already an adult so he could take care of them but like wtf 😕🙏‼️
They abandoned them but yeah Dawa is an adult, in his early twenty when Amaris was 12.

(Much thanks for @spotty-is-slumberous for lovely art for this holiday card! :D)
This is a very special time of the month for many Buddhist traditions. Just a few days ago, on May 8th, the Japanese traditions were celebrating Hanamatsuri. Today, May 15th, the Chinese traditions like the one I took refuge and precepts under are celebrating Fódàn. On May 23rd the Theravada traditions are celebrating Vesak. And on May 26th the Tibetan traditions are celebrating Saga Dawa.
All these various holidays and festivals celebrate the birth, enlightenment, and/or passing into parinirvana of Shakyamuni Buddha, the buddha of our current age and founder of all of our traditions. I hope all buddhists, whatever date they celebrate, can take this timeto reflect on Shakyamuni's story and draw from it inspiration to continue their practice.
Like all buddhas and bodhisattvas Shakyamuni was an ordinary being once, that through continous effort across countless lifetimes achieved the greatest accomplishment. The ultimate promise of his message is that if we follow the path prescribed by him we too can achieve it.
南无本师释迦牟尼佛
Homage to our original teacher, Shakyamuni Buddha!

game concept art 2023 - EARTHSHINE - part 1 - characters
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is part 1 of my campaign design project from my concept art course last year, called EARTHSHINE!
I designed all these concepts for a top down space fantasy alien RPG called EARTHSHINE, inspired by Undertale, Deltarune, and Omori. The aesthetics were based on sci fi and retro futurism, pop art, black light photos and arcades, and a spacey aesthetic in the vein of Super Mario Galaxy and Slime Rancher.
In a reverse Solar System populated with aliens, many are racing to claim the empty planet, Earth. But no one seems to be consulting its moon, Luna, who's people adore it as part of their culture.
Dawa, an alien from Luna, is on a quest to claim Earth for their home, meeting new companions Ferni from Mars and Destiny from Mercury along the way.
More info about the characters under the cut!! vv
PLAYER CHARACTERS
DAWA - Dawa is a humble farmer living their life with their mother on her lunar grape farm. They're quiet and have a tendency to throw themself into work and hobbies. Because of this they come off as anti-social. Dawa can be blunt and snarky, but they just say what's on their mind and will act on an idea if they're certain of their goal. It’s why they left home to confront the leaders about the planet they orbit, as they feel their home and the locals should also have a say in claiming it. Dawa is an ambush and heavy hitter, using their strong legs and quick movements to immobilise their enemies.
FERNI - Ferni is the owner of the Aresi Cosmic Curio Shop. She's taken up the role of a historian, and her first job is to learn about Earth from the locals on moons and Mars. Ferni is a fountain of energy and incredibly sweet, but she can be an overwhelming presence. It only takes someone slightly mentioning anything Earth related for her to go into a full information dump. Upon hearing about Dawa's quest, she immediately tags along, eager to learn about the Earth's history. She's a little too excited to fight battles, but at least she has the spirit and the heart! She’s good at targeting faraway targets, and earned the role of wild card.
DESTINY - Destiny is currently one of the only small spaceship drivers on Mercury aboard the Wings of Felestian Spaceship. Destiny takes on an older guide role for the team. She's highly sociable due to the nature of her job, but is very comfortable hanging back in the ship alone. She's resourceful and has a habit of proposing new ideas and upgrades for the ship. She plays support over communications for the team, offering advice and updates when she can. Generally a charming, reliable presence.
NPCS
LEADER ACACIA - Leader Acacia, or just Acacia, is the Leader of the Jovian Colonies, a proud and stubborn alien with a penchant for snapping at others. Despite the slightly arrogant demeanour, they are under a lot of stress due to the arguments they have been having with the Captain of Neptune about Earth. Other Aliens have unfairly painted them as cocky, while Jovians mainly see them as just a stressed, if not a little goofy leader, who enjoys a cup of tea in their spare time.
CAPTAIN BERA - Bera, or Captain Bera, has certainly made a name for herself among the solar system. She commands the raging Seas of Neptune aboard her submarine. One thing that makes her a fierce leader, is her competitiveness, which drives the other planets' leaders insane in her sheer confidence over her right to claim Earth. Bera's actions are as bold as her thoughts, yet despite her reputation, she seems to be well respected by the people and her crew.
KEEPER PLASMA - Keeper Plasma is notoriously mysterious. They were a respected figure amongst the Solar System, but nowadays very few know of them. Those who do engage describe a rather bitter and reclusive person. Plasma has been asked what their opinions are on the Earth space race, and it's always been the same answer, "Petty squabbles are none of my business.". They're a keeper of knowledge and history for the Solar System, so there could be information not even the great leaders know of.
