FuGio Week 2023 Day 3: Video games - Phasmophobia with the Boys
Ao3
Quotev
Wattpad
Giorno had just finished his homework and was about to play a game on his computer until Fugo sent him a message on Discord.
“Babe, check your Steam. I bought you something,” it read.
He got on Steam and received a gift from Fugo. It was Phasmophobia.
“Thanks,” he texted. “But what’s this game about?”
“Four people hunt a ghost. Narancia and Mista want us to play it.”
“Mista’s aware that there will be four of us, right?”
“Narancia and I had to convince him it’ll be five if we include the ghost. I know you usually play a game at this time, but could you maybe wait and install this?”
“Sure, I already have it downloaded. It’s installing quickly.”
A few minutes passed, and Phasmophobia finished installing.
“It’s done,” Giorno texted him.
“Excellent,” Fugo replied in text. “Could you join the voice chat? Here’s the code to join our game.”
“Sure, give me a second.” Giorno searched for his headset, and once he found it, he turned off all the lights in his room and joined the call.
“Giorno, hey!” Narancia’s microphone sounded distorted.
“What the hell?” Fugo commented. “Why does it sound like your mic is in your throat?”
He giggled. “Do you want to know?”
“Sorry, I was getting some chips and a soft drink,” Mista said. “Sup, Giorno!”
Giorno brought the mic close to his mouth. “Hey, I’m doing alright.”
“No, Giorno!” Fugo cried. “Not you too!”
“Just do you know, I have no idea how to play this,” he said in his normal voice.
“Well, there’s only one available map to you,” Narancia explained. “Don’t worry. It’s easy. Just let us do everything.”
“Let Giorno help,” Fugo said. “Here’s the code to join us. Oh, and we’ll use the game chat to talk. Mute the Discord call unless you die.”
Giorno got on Phasmophobia, clicked on multiplayer, and copied and pasted the code to join their private game. Once he joined the server, he saw a blond-haired guy, a brown-haired guy, and a brown-haired woman.
“Giorno, change your player model,” Mista said. “If you want. Click on the board.”
“Wait, Mista, is that you?” he asked. “Are you a woman?”
“I don’t want four guys.”
Giorno changed to an Asian woman. “There’s three white men to pick from and no Asian guys.”
“Oh, I can change into a guy now. Except, I don’t want to. Alright, which map are we voting on?”
“6 Tanglewood Drive,” Fugo answered. “This is Giorno’s first time. I’ll also bring everything.”
“Everything?” Narancia said. “Sweet!”
“Don’t mess this up! I’m looking at you and Mista. Wait, where’s Mista?”
Mista was upstairs playing basketball.
“Ugh, let’s just go,” Fugo said. “Tell me him to come down here. Okay, Giorno, what equipment do you want? You can only handle three things, but you’ll need a flashlight, which takes up a slot.”
Giorno looked at the equipment. “I don’t have to buy all this?”
“No, I have everything covered.”
“I’ll take the spirit box and the camera.”
“Alright, so you’ll be in charge of taking photos of the bones and cursed objects. You can take a picture of the ghost, but I wouldn’t risk it. Also, if anyone dies, take a picture of their bodies. You can only take five photos with each camera. When using the spirit box, you want to keep the lights off and, depending on how the ghost will respond, either alone or in a group. However, some ghosts will not respond to it. Once we find the ghost’s favorite room, you’ll want a response as soon as possible. Any more questions?”
“No,” Giorno replied.
“Alright.” Fugo turned around to see if Narancia and Mista were there. They weren’t. Both of them were playing basketball. “Oh my god, these idiots.” He went upstairs. “Come on! We have a ghost to hunt.”
The three came down.
“Alright, click on the board when you’re ready. Since this is Giorno’s first time, we’ll play on amateur.”
Giorno readied up, and so was everybody else. The game then teleported them into a truck.
“Alright, do you see this board right here?” Fugo guided him. “This is the ghost’s name and how they respond to it. There are also optional things for us to do, but we’ll ignore that for now. It looks like Yoshihiro Kira responds to people who are alone. Oh, and as for the map, that’s important too. And that bar right there, that’s our sanity. The lower it is, the ghost will target you for it when it triggers a hunt.”
“Um, I think the ghost targets anyone indiscriminately regardless of sanity, except for the banshee,” Narancia said.
“Whatever. Just make sure it’s not low.”
“How long have you guys been playing this?” Giorno asked.
“I bought it a week ago,” Fugo answered. “But the others had it longer.”
“And somehow you’re a higher level than us,” Narancia commented.
“I played it by myself. That’s also how I’m filthy rich.”
“Hey, Fugo,” Mista said. “You’re not the richest guy in the group.”
“Oh? Please explain.”
“The game gave me 200 cameras, and I sold them all.”
“200? How?”
“I don’t know!”
“Alright.” Fugo walked to the truck’s door and grabbed the key. “Let’s go!”
He pushed the button to open the door and headed inside.
“Oh, Giorno,” Fugo spoke on the radio, “make sure you turn on the lights, or your sanity will drain.”
Giorno checked the blue room, and nothing was there. Then he headed to the baby's room, found a right humerus next to the wardrobe, and photoed the bone with his camera. “Found a bone in the baby’s room. Is the ghost here?”
“I’ll need to check,” Fugo said. “I have the thermometer. I was in the kitchen, and the temperature was 17 degrees Celsius.”
“I have a camera,” Mista said. “I’ll see if there are any ghost orbs.”
The lights in the room suddenly went off.
“Who?” Narancia panicked.
“Someone head to the garage,” Fugo said. “That’s where the fuse box is.”
“Ugh, I’ll get it,” Mista said.
The lights came on, and Fugo was there.
“Hey!” he said. “I could’ve gotten the lights, but I wanted to see how you were doing. Are you enjoying the game so far?”
“I wasn’t expecting to find the bone so fast,” Giorno answered. “What’s the temperature in the room?”
“That’s because the house is small. 14 degrees Celsius. It’s not here.”
“Freezing temperatures in the basement,” Mista said. “I can see my breath. There’s also a summoning circle. Giorno, you might want to take a picture of it. God, shit! The chair just moved.”
Narancia laughed. “I’m coming. I also got a lighter for us to summon the ghost.”
Giorno and Fugo came down to the basement.
“Okay,” Fugo started, “the ghost could be a demon, hantu, jinn, moroi, oni, onryo, revenant, shade, mimic, twins, or a yurei. Make sure you circle freezing temperatures. Does anyone have the D.O.T.S.?”
“I do!” Mista said. “I always carry one with me if I’m holding a camera. I’ll place a camera on one of the shelves.”
“Alright, we’ll have to leave Giorno here in the dark.”
“Wait, can I summon the ghost?” Narancia asked.
“Not yet. We want to see if Kira will respond to the spirit box. You’ll want to ask how aggressive it is, where it is, or an age-related question. If it responds, then circle the spirit box as evidence.”
The three left, leaving Giorno to himself in the dark.
“What do you want?” he asked.
Kira did not respond.
“Where are you?”
Nothing.
“How old are you?”
Once again, silence.
“I asked three questions, but the ghost didn’t respond,” Giorno spoke into the radio.
“Yeah, about that,” Fugo said. “You’ll have to repeat some of the questions.”
“Can I summon the ghost now?” Narancia asked.
“Hold on. Everyone, make sure you turn off every electronic. Giorno, once Narancia summons Kira, you’ll want to take a picture quickly and run. The ghost will activate a hunt, and you’ll be unable to leave the house. Hide in a closet or something.”
“Wait, can I change my equipment before we summon the ghost?” Giorno asked. “I don’t like using the spirit box if I have to repeat asking questions.”
“You probably need to say the ghost’s name, but I should’ve figured you’d hate the spirit box. Narancia, do you have the UV flashlight?”
“No, I don’t,” Narancia replied. “I think it’s still in the truck.”
“Then what do you have?”
“The lighter and candle.”
“Do we even have the optional objective to have the ghost snuff out the candle?”
“I didn’t read.”
Fugo sighed. “Of course, you didn’t read. Doesn’t matter. Light the candle.”
“Giorno, could you hand me the camera?”
“Sure,” Giorno said.
Someone switched the lights on, and the three returned to the basement. Giorno dropped the spirit box and camera and headed to the truck, grabbing the UV flashlight.
“I can grab more things. What else should I grab?” Giorno asked.
“I placed a journal in here,” Mista replied. “How about another video camera?”
Giorno took the camera and sprinted back to the basement.
“Okay, good,” Mista commented. “Place the camera in front of the journal.”
He did as Mista said.
“Okay, we’re all set,” Fugo said. “Light the circle!”
Narancia lit the circle, and Yoshihiro Kira appeared. His skin was gray, he still had some of his hair, which was white, and his figure was slim.
“Run!” Fugo yelled.
Everybody except Narancia sprinted out. Giorno went to the blue room and hid in a closet. His heart pounded like the time he asked Fugo out.
“Narancia?” Mista called out on the radio.
The ghost’s footsteps got closer and closer but then went away.
“Is it gone?” Giorno asked on the radio.
“Wait a few seconds,” Fugo replied.
“Hey, guys,” Narancia spoke in the Discord call. “I’m dead and took multiple photos. You’ll need to get another camera.”
“Damn it!’ Fugo responded. “Alright, I think the ghost is gone.”
“We’re going to make that ghost pay!” Mista said. “Where’s the spirit box? I got something to say.”
“I’ll get a camera and photograph Narancia’s body. Mista, do whatever you want. Giorno, stick with me. I’ll take photos of the ghost’s fingerprints. By the way, where are you?”
“I’m in the blue room currently in the closet.” Giorno stepped out and saw Fugo heading towards the exit. He returned a few seconds later.
“Okay, so here’s what you want to do,” Fugo began. “Shine the UV light at doors, except for the exit, light switches, windows, keyboards, and mirrors.”
Giorno and Fugo wandered the house for a bit. They found evidence on the basement door and took a photo.
“Circle fingerprints,” Fugo ordered. “Since we have freezing temperatures and fingerprints, the ghost could be a demon, hantu, or jinn. Since nobody’s in the truck, Giorno, you head over there.”
Giorno returned to the truck.
“The bitch is a demon,” Narancia said.
“I think so, too,” Mista agreed. “And before we check off one last thing, I got something to say to Yoshihiro Kira. You are a nasty little fuck. You know that, leaving your fingerprints all over the place? Fucking clean after yourself, you piece of shit, dumb bitch!”
“Hey, dumbass, you’re talking on the radio,” Fugo reminded him. “Let’s go downstairs to see what he’s doing.”
The couple returned to the basement. Mista had the spirit box in his hand.
“I bet you have dick cheese, you nasty manwhore!” Mista continued to insult, causing Narancia to laugh. “How many kids do you have? One? A hundred? Do you hug your children? I bet you don’t! You’re probably a deadbeat dad who—”
Yoshihiro Kira appeared right in front of Mista and killed him.
“Damn it!” Fugo shouted. “Run again!”
Giorno hid in a locker in the garage.
“Guys, I’m dead,” Mista said.
“I think the ghost is after me,” Fugo said.
Everything was silent. Although Giorno couldn’t tell where the ghost was, he started counting down to guess how long the hunt lasted.
“The ghost is gone,” Fugo said. “Come on. Let’s take a picture of Mista’s body.”
Mista’s body lay next to Narancia’s.
“Perfect,” Fugo commented while taking the picture.
Giorno looked at the journal and noticed violent scribbles on it. “We got evidence of writing!” He brought his journal and circled demon as evidence.
His boyfriend took a photo. “Wow, this went perfectly.”
“Perfectly?” Narancia sounded offended. “We’re dead!”
The couple sprinted to the truck and left.
-
The game returned them to the lobby, bringing them to the board. Since Giorno had the ghost type correct and the team photographed the evidence, he now had more money.
“Should I buy anything?” he asked.
“No, you don’t have to,” Fugo replied. “Do you have 10 Ridgeview Court unlocked?”
“Yeah, I do.”
“Perfect! We’ll do that one. I’ll bring everything again. Everyone, click on the board. We’re heading to Ridgeview.”
Everyone readied up. When the four loaded in the truck, Giorno first took the strong flashlight and thermometer but stared at the sound sensors.
“I’m guessing these pick up the ghost’s sounds,” he said.
“Yeah,” Fugo replied. “We should probably use these to locate the ghost’s room. Hmm, what’s the ghost’s name.”
The two checked the board, and the ghost’s name was Reimi Sugimoto. It said she also responds to everyone.
“Since there are four of them, shouldn’t we all grab one?” Giorno was back on topic about the sound sensors. “I was thinking that Narancia and Mista use the EMF readers.”
“Well, I want one person to use the spirit box. Maybe Narancia can have the EMF reader while Mista holds the spirit box.”
“I’m cool with that,” Mista said.
“I have no idea how to use the EMF reader,” Narancia said.
“If it’s at four, run,” Fugo informed. “There’s a low chance the ghost could activate five. Don’t worry. Giorno and I will find the ghost’s room before you two can.”
“Oh, we’ll see about that!”
Everyone grabbed the sound sensors and left the truck. Fugo rushed to the basement to turn on the fuse box and place a sensor on one of the shelves. Giorno placed his near the master bedroom, while Narancia placed one near the garage. Mista planted his sound sensor somewhere in the second-story hallway.
“I just checked the basement room’s temperature,” Fugo said on the radio. “Not cold enough for it to be the ghost room. I’m going upstairs.”
Giorno went to the truck to fetch the UV flashlight while Narancia grabbed a photo camera. While on their way, they noticed the sensors picked up some noise on the second floor.
“Noise on the second floor,” Giorno said on the radio.
“Perfect,” Fugo said. “Aha! There’s a music box in the girl’s bedroom. Also, the temperature is the coldest here, but it’s not freezing.”
“Wait for me!” Narancia said. “I’ll take a photo of the object!”
Narancia sprinted out of the truck.
“I’ll get the cameras,” Mista said.
“I’ll get the D.O.T.S.,” Fugo said.
Giorno walked out of the truck and explored the house for fingerprints on the second floor. Meanwhile, he could hear Narancia communicating with the ghost, and Mista constantly went in and out of the house, placing equipment in the girl’s room.
“Are you friendly?” he asked. “How old are you? How close are you? Are you French?” Narancia would go on repeating the same questions.
“Hey, you might be at that for a while,” Fugo said. “Do you mind dropping your camera?”
“Sure.”
“Giorno, I’m coming to you. Where are you?”
Giorno headed to the girl’s bedroom. “I’m right here.”
His character model approached his. “Oh, perfect! I see you’re carrying a UV flashlight. We’ll be perfect together.”
“Wait!” Narancia stopped them. “If it takes a while for the ghost to appear, can I use the music box?”
“Yes, but you must tell us before you use it,” Fugo turned around and answered. He faced Giorno again. “Let’s check the bathroom and see if she touched the mirror.”
They checked the bathroom, but Reimi hadn’t left any prints yet.
“We have ghost orbs!” Mista said. “I checked the cameras on the truck.”
“I wouldn’t circle that yet,” Fugo said. “It could be a mimic.”
“D.O.T.S.!” Narancia yelled. “Oh god, fuck! The ghost!”
Everyone inside scrambled to find a hiding spot, causing Fugo and Giorno to split up. They ran downstairs. Giorno hid in a locker in the garage, while Fugo hid in the basement.
“I hate this game,” Narancia complained on Discord. “I died in the bathroom upstairs.”
It had been 25 seconds. The hunt should be over.
“Okay, I think it’s over. Circle D.O.T.S. and ghost orbs as evidence. Reimi could be a banshee, raiju, thaye, yokai, or yurei,” Fugo said. “I’m going to go back upstairs.”
Giorno got out of the locker and joined his boyfriend. Once he met up with Fugo, he used the UV flashlight in the bathroom, revealing that Reimi touched the mirror and door.
“It’s a banshee,” Fugo said. “We can go now.”
“Did you take a photo of my body?” Narancia asked.
“Yeah.”
“What about the bones?”
“Forget the bones. Let’s leave.”
They returned to the truck and left, returning to the lobby.
“Man, we can find the ghost quicker when we place those sensors,” Mista commented.
“Why was I the only one dead?” Narancia asked.
“Your body was in the middle of the room,” Fugo said.
“There was no place to hide!”
“Don’t run into the bathroom then. Anyways, are you down for one more?”
“Nah,” Giorno replied. “I’m exhausted, and it’s getting dark. Maybe tomorrow?”
“Oh, later then! I love you!”
“I love you too.”
Giorno quit the game and turned off his computer.

With hits like Palworld, open-world survival games are having a moment
The primary large online game hit of 2024 was Palworld, a recreation all people thought can be “Pokémon with weapons” however turned out to be an open-world crafting recreation the place you seize monsters — referred to as “Buddies” — and put them to work in your base, creating assets and tending to numerous areas. Individuals got here for Pokémon and stayed for the gameplay, to the tune of 19 million gamers reached throughout its preliminary January launch interval. Not too lengthy after that, we acquired Enshrouded, an open-world survival crafting recreation now in Steam Early Entry that places gamers in a post-apocalyptic fantasy world and duties them with operating round gathering assets and constructing out a base. Then, there was the gothic Nightingale, adopted by driving sim Pacific Drive. There are much more to return, too, with Lightyear Frontier, Outcast - A New Starting, Dune: Awakening (sure, that Dune), and one based mostly within the Terminator universe, to call just a few. The “Open World Survival Craft” recreation (as Steam labels it) isn’t the latest online game style on the block. Whereas they arrive in distinct flavors, video games like The Lengthy Darkish, Rust, and Conan Exiles have been preserving gamers occupied for years. Nonetheless, it’s trying like 2024 could be the yr the style hits a brand new excessive. With the shortage of blockbuster video games being launched and many individuals on the lookout for a change of tempo from the standard catalog of multiplayer dwell service or single-player linear experiences, open-world survival crafting video games may present the reply. There are numerous distinctive takes and ranging levels of issue on this area, however the thought is at all times that you simply accumulate assets within the recreation’s world and use them to maintain your self alive, make weapons and different devices, construct a base, or simply let your creativity fly. Most significantly, the participant must imagine that they will do nearly something. That freedom will differ on a game-by-game foundation, however guaranteeing that the participant has a point of it's key to preserving them taking part in for dozens — perhaps even a whole lot — of hours. Survival and crafting video games have made a superb pairing for years now, whether or not it’s in practically infinite sandboxes, like Minecraft, or one thing extra structured, like Don’t Starve. Nonetheless, there was a definite second just lately that appeared to reignite the keenness for these sorts of video games — each for the gamers and builders. Three of the individuals I interviewed for this text introduced up Valheim, a Viking-inspired open-world sandbox from developer Iron Gate, launched in Steam Early Entry in February 2021. Over its first month, it bought over 5 million copies and peaked at over 500,000 concurrent gamers, due to its sturdy crafting; seemingly limitless, procedurally generated open world; deep lore; and enjoyable multiplayer capabilities. Regardless of being three years into early entry, on the time of this writing, it’s nonetheless hitting 20,000 concurrent gamers.
Tumblr media
Picture: Iron Gate Studio/Espresso Stain Publishing through Polygon Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, numerous indies made by small groups exploded in reputation, and Valheim was simply the newest to affix Amongst Us and Phasmophobia. With numerous video games getting delayed as a result of transition to working from dwelling, and many individuals being caught indoors, something that might add selection to digital socialization was welcome. As a substitute of simply hopping on a Zoom name, you possibly can log right into a recreation like Valheim and discover a public or non-public server with pals. And since it’s principally an off-the-cuff, nonlinear expertise, you possibly can do nearly no matter you wished. If you wish to discover, you'll be able to; if you wish to simply give attention to constructing the world’s tallest tower, go for it. Extra importantly, Valheim did away with numerous the standard boundaries to entry, like hunger, thirst, or shock fight. Survival video games are about utilizing numerous techniques collectively to maintain your character alive, and whereas individuals who’ve been taking part in for years are used to them, it’s powerful for newer gamers to be taught the fundamentals, particularly in the event that they boot up a recreation that doesn’t give a lot in the way in which of a tutorial, like The Lengthy Darkish (except you attempt its narrative mode). Whereas not one of the interviewed builders had been straight impressed by Valheim, its success proved that what they had been engaged on could possibly be profitable and had an viewers. “We began in 2019, so fairly some time in the past, however got here out, I feel, someplace mid-development. And we had been positively shocked as a result of we had an analogous route,” Antony Christoulakis, inventive director on Enshrouded at Eager Video games, mentioned. “It validated the overall strategy we took to survival, like being slightly extra pleasant on, like, you don’t die when you don’t eat. As a result of when you simply need to construct your base, you don’t need to be bothered with these sorts of mechanics on a regular basis.” “If individuals play Palworld for the Pokémon angle, perhaps they discovered they get pleasure from another video games as a style itself” Since Valheim, there was all kinds of those sorts of video games getting launched, particularly into early entry. Some lean into the standard mechanics of the survival style, with issues like complicated well being and wellness administration that mimic the real-world survival expertise. However numerous this most up-to-date slate cleans up the extra intricate and hectic gameplay to give attention to exploration, crafting, and typically co-op. These video games additionally present new twists on the style. There’s the stereotype of you waking up within the woods with no garments, a backpack, and a stick, which then results in you punching timber for some time. They are usually both in fantasy or post-apocalyptic settings, and perhaps there are zombies or different gamers who get in your manner, forcing you to lose all of your assets and begin from scratch. A few of these newer video games have these traits, however they’re both toned down or are turned on their head. Nightingale is an open-world survival recreation, but it surely makes use of “realms” — totally different worlds that gamers can unlock with random traits — as a substitute of the basic open atmosphere to get gamers exploring. Pacific Drive, an open-world crafting and driving sim, additionally eschews most of the basic mechanics, the large one being how little it's good to care about your character. Whilst you have a well being bar, you spend most of your time crafting elements to improve your rundown station wagon, which can in flip make it harder so that you can take injury and may also help you get by the eerie Olympic Exclusion Zone the place the sport takes place. Externalizing all of your efforts onto your automotive not solely supplies you with one thing new to care for, but in addition creates a way of companionship, including an emotional connection that tends to be lacking in video games solely centered on techniques. There are additionally a bunch of quality-of-life touches, like the way you don’t want assets straight in your backpack to craft one thing on the workbench or how your base is already principally constructed out within the type of a high-tech automotive storage. Director Seth Rosen, who additionally spent years engaged on Don’t Starve, mentioned a part of what tempted him to work on Pacific Drive was making an attempt one thing new within the style. “I don’t like survival or crafting video games, they’re actually not my jam. So due to that, in Pacific Drive, it was actually, actually necessary to me that we pursue as a lot as we humanly presumably may of this form of quality-of-life, ease-of-use stuff that almost all survival video games don’t trouble with,” Rosen mentioned. “I wished to make it as clean a crafting and survival expertise as potential.”
Tumblr media
Picture: Pocketpair Palworld was an enormous early 2024 hit for comparable causes. Nonetheless, that reputation began with a advertising and marketing marketing campaign that highlighted its similarities with different creature-collecting video games like Pokémon (for higher or worse) relatively than specializing in survival and crafting parts. Then, individuals realized it was recreation, in accordance with Simon Carless, founding father of GameDiscoverCo, a agency that analyzes Steam and console gross sales knowledge. Whereas the tutorial may stand to be extra sturdy, when you get previous that, the sport loop is straightforward to know. “Palworld’s success is right down to the developer being genuinely good at making survival craft-style video games,” Carless mentioned in an e-mail to Polygon. “I believe it launched some individuals to this style who hadn’t performed it a lot earlier than, and the gameplay loop was on level and well-constructed.” “If individuals play Palworld for the Pokémon angle, perhaps they discovered they get pleasure from another video games as a style itself, like on the mechanics aspect of issues,” Christoulakis echoed. That isn’t to say any of those video games are simple (except you’re speaking about Lego Fortnite, the final word simple survival recreation), however they will work as introductions to the style. Enshrouded, now in early entry, is one other nice possibility if you need an on-ramp to open-world survival crafting, due to the way it makes use of acquainted tropes, like waking up with no abilities or reminiscence, however walks you thru a tutorial the place you then go and begin punching timber. Nevertheless it additionally has a surprisingly easy-to-use settlement constructing system the place all of the items snap into place with one another. As you unlock extra recipes, the sport affords numerous particular items for constructing simply the way in which you need to, like blocks of assorted sizes. This has led to some actually astounding player-built constructions that may rival every other recreation with constructing mechanics, and it doesn’t require numerous data or a whole lot of hours of play. “I feel survival crafting video games are sort of essentially the most literal expression of I as a participant” These video games have rather a lot in frequent past how they ease off a few of the survival style’s harshest mechanics. I beforehand famous that Valheim featured a co-op mode that gave gamers a brand new expertise through the pandemic, however many of the aforementioned video games (minus Pacific Drive) have a multiplayer mode that enables individuals to share recreation experiences and work to finish duties collectively. There’s additionally flexibility to what you are able to do; as an illustration, some can go off exploring whereas others keep on the bottom. Nightingale is constructed with multiplayer as a basis because it began as an MMO, and the builders encourage individuals to go to realms on different servers and share theirs with pals. (Nightingale was controversially online-only when it launched. Inflexion Video games has since introduced it will work on an offline mode for solo gamers.) Relatedly, an enormous part of what makes the style so interesting is freedom. Open-world video games particularly have various levels of participant freedom and potential interactions, and open-world survival crafting video games’ give attention to techniques offers gamers much more selections. They will give attention to constructing fortresses in Enshrouded as a substitute of doing story quests; crafting particular automotive upgrades in Pacific Drive as a substitute of exploring new areas; constructing out a base as a substitute of discovering new Buddies in Palworld. Every has a nonlinear narrative (or, within the case of one thing like Minecraft, no narrative in any respect), so gamers aren’t on a time restrict. “Whereas there are narrative features to Nightingale it’s not a linear narrative expertise. You don’t begin after which we let you know the place to go. You'll be able to select to work together with NPCs, you'll be able to select to disregard them. You’re free to do no matter you want,” Inflexion Video games artwork director Neil Thompson mentioned. “That form of freedom to work together with the world that’s there and the power because of that to role-play your individual tales inside that world — that to me is the facility of the gaming medium.” The style can lean into interactivity not simply by letting gamers do no matter they need, but in addition by giving them a number of issues to do. There’s a motive why Steam calls it the Open World Survival Craft style and why there isn’t one other established identify: It comprises at the least three subgenres, together with most of the related mechanics. There’s crafting, base constructing, exploration, fight, survival, and typically ideas like driving. If performed efficiently, the participant gained’t be overwhelmed by the sheer variety of duties as a result of they’ll all work collectively to create a satisfying loop that encourages you to maintain taking part in. - Some of the games he found may or may not have been janky as all hell but that didn't mean you two didn't have fun
- And you also became great friends with Corpse so win-win
- Another win was that you and him proceeded to get closer and closer
- However, with miles and miles between you and only an internet connection keeping you within each other's proximity, it was hard not to wish to meet in real life
- Although, you did get a feel of how it'd be to spend up to a full day, a full 24 hours with Jacksepticeye
- And hell if it didn't make you wish you could actually do that
- At the time, though, you honestly didn't know how you felt but you thought you knew how Sean felt
- But, hun, you were so fucking wrong
- One day you hopped on Discord to surprise everyone even though you had said you'd probably not be able to join
- That's when you heard it
- "Is there something between Y/N and I?" He read, presumably from his chat, "Yes, there is! A very strong friendship! He's an amazing fucking person. So kind, funny, friendly, the whole nine yards. They've really made my life a lot better and I'm so glad I met them. And, shh, don't tell him, but he's super handsome too."
- His blood froze in his veins the second he heard your laugh echo on the VC
- You swear you could *hear* his silent panic
- "You got something to tell me, Jackaboy?"
- There was a moment of silence that you almost broke so many times with the laughter you were holding back
- "No....?" He sheepishly said, more as a question than anything else
- That's when you couldn't hold your laugh back anymore
- "I mean I did say what I said and I told them not to tell you but looks to me like they didn't have to say jack-shit, cause Jack went on and talked himself into some deep shit."
- "Awww, don't say that, Jack. I think you're very handsome too."
- There aren't many ways or things that make Jack blush, but that?
- That did the trick

HI RI! 🥰
How are you? Just out of curiosity what games do you play? 👀
HI HELLO hehehe i’m good, how are you doing !!
ok so, i've been hesitating to mention this on here, but i work in the video games industry (pls no one ask which one !!) so i have both played them for like research purposes and for work, but most definitely mostly for fun
but i play a lot
i put them under the cut cause 😁😅 i wrote wayyyy too much lmfao
horizon zero dawn
I LOVE THIS GAME IT MIGHT BE MY FAVORITE GAME EVER, to be clear: i mostly play story based games/rpg games cause it always felt like an interactive tv show with its story chapters and like side quests and this one's story?? amazingggg, i don't want to give anything away so i'll just say: the world building/lore is fantastic, and the scenery alone is to die for
i also love that for the most part what you are fighting are robots, but like, with a bow and arrow🤪 i loved being able to like sneak around and stealthily kill or dismantle them and get super creative on how i approached them it was one of my favorite parts of the game
the sims
okokok i srsly love to just fuck around on here and do literally whatever with a ton of mods, i love how customizable it is and the building houses/buildings/venues is unmatched and it just like takes me right back to my childhood when i would steal minutes playing this when my brothers weren't around to demand the controllers; i will add that the gameplay itself is fun for a bit but i tend to loose interest a lot quicker unless i'm doing a challenge
ghosts of tsushima
this game is absolutely gorgeous, stunning, and like so soothing!? basically you’re a samurai and you’re taking back the island from invaders, the gameplay mechanics are unreal, like they try to make the experience as seamless as possible so its like you’re just watching this play out in front of you while you push some buttons
i will also add that i felt like i improved with holding and using a controller with this game, there’s a lot of fighting where you have to hit the button at just the right time, and like it sounds kind of stressful when i put it like that, but the training sessions you do for them are just so well done that i felt i grasped the concept but it changed my gaming skill from that point on; had to sit down and like take a minute after that
Honorable mentions:
- portal 2 (that AI is funny as hell and the puzzles are fantastic) - last of us (have only done the first one so far, but this game🥲) - the witcher iii (one of the first games i’ve played all the way through) - journey (marvelous, soothing, short, beautiful, highly recommend) - assassins creed (but specifically that one in italy, love it) - little big planet (2&3 the user created levels on this are works of art) - fallout 3 (this game scares me shitless, so...when i’m looking for that this is where i go lol) - phasmophobia (also where i want to go when i want to be scared) - mario kart (how can i not put this on here) - first class trouble (my friend is too good at lying in this game but def look this one up its a riot) - jedi fallen order (playing this one right now, i like it but some gameplay mechanics don’t flow that well imo) - star wars knights of the old republic (best star wars game imo but since it can’t run on my operating system anymore i can’t play it unless i so some wild as hook ups) -tomb raider (the original one, was a ton of fun/classic rpg)
super special mention: garfield kart
ok look, this game is dumb as hell. like it glitches so bad you’ll get stuck against a wall; someone gives you a slight tap on the road? your roadkill; you literally fly too high in the air and it bitch slaps you until you’re eating that pixelated cement. its the stupidest, weirdest, most vindictive game i’ve ever played and i love it with a burning passion, if you ever want to spend the five dollars when they’re running a sale: do it. please. i’ll play the online multiplayer with you with a headset. i’m dead serious.

Three Isn’t Always A Crowd
Summary: A look into a life of being in a polyamorus relationship with Shoyo Hinata and Kenma Kozume
Pairing: Shoyo X GN!Reader X Kenma
Warnings: Haikyuu Manga Spoilers
A/n: So HinaKen is my favorite Haikyuu ship. IDK why but I love their dynamic and the fact their they're polar opposites but still love each other makes my heart melt.
Tumblr media
How It Started
Shoyo and Kenma were already dating when you met them. You had met them both because you were in the same college courses as Kenma. You often help tutor Kenma because he get caught up in his streaming.
You once interrupted one of his streams to tell him to study. You spammed his chat telling him to study. The chat also got into it, yelling at him to study.
Let’s just say that he wasn’t too happy with you during that tutoring session
Shoyo was very grateful to have you helping Kenma and asks you to come over to help Kenma study in person.
You and Shoyo hit it off right away with your shared love of forgein culture and many other things.
Kenma simply looked at the two of you like you were crazy. You and Shoyo simply made fun of him for not understanding the appreciation.
It didn’t take long for all three of you to start hanging out together. It was easy for all of you to hang out with each other. Something about your dynamic just made you connect better.
Most of the time, you just hung out at Shoyo’s and Kenma’s house since it was close to university and your dorms.
It was after you had been hanging out with them for a few months did they ask you to join their relationship.
They took the time to explain to you what they meant and how polyamory worked if you didn’t know.
They gave you enough time to think it over before you had agreed.
Dating Life
While you weren’t living with them at this point, you spent a majority of your time with them.
You all didn’t go out too much due to different schedules and classwork that was required to be done, but you made it work.
Saturday nights were declared date nights since Shoyo didn’t have practice the next day and Kenma didn’t stream until later in the day on Sundays.
You didn’t do anything too huge, mainly just going to see the latest movie, go out to dinner, or sometimes bowling. Even though Kenma states that he hates bowling, he still has a big smile on his face every time you do.
On the off chance that Shoyo has practice on Sundays, you’ll go out to breakfast on Saturday mornings after Shoyo’s morning workout and before Kenma’s meetings.
Other Saturday nights, you and Kenma go to Shoyo’s games to help cheer him on. It’s rare that you and Kenma do this because Kenma always gets recognized and can’t focus on the game.
You start appearing more and more in Kenma’s streams, but only when he plays multiplayer games or is in another server. Your favorite game to play together is Phasmophobia because you love to antagonize the ghosts and then get mad when they chase you.
Shoyo sometimes takes you to practice with him to show you around and introduce you to all of his teammates. You already know most of them because they come around to the house a lot.
The Backlash
Dating two high profile people isn’t always peaches n’ cream. A lot of rumors are spread around with saying that you’re using them or you’re trying to break them apart.
Both Kenma and Shoyo tell you to ignore it, but it’s hard when people at school start to spread rumors.
The media starts getting wind of the drama and carry it with them as well, saying things like “Mysterious Woman Spotted with MSBY Player Hinata Shoyo- Possible Cheating?” “Youtube Star Kodzuken Now Streaming With New Girlfriend” “Is Hinata Shoyo and Kozume Kenma Broken Up?”
When Shoyo and Kenma start getting questioned about it in person, they simply explain that they are still together and you have joined their relationship.
It was when the press started swarming you at school did things really take a change.
People quickly found out what dorm you lived in and started writing things on the dorm doors, sending you threatening letters, and at one point, someone had broken your window with a rock.
The Decision
After all that had happened, Kenma made you come move in with them. His house had security and no one knew what his address was, only his PO Box.
Shoyo and Kenma both made announcements asking everyone to stop with the harassment or else they were going to start pressing charges.
Soon, the love and support from fans, friends, and family outgrew the hate and made things much easier to handle.
You had switched to online courses with Kenma so that you wouldn’t have to worry about facing the press quite yet.
Kenma had given you the guest room to stay in, although you had hardly slept there and it was mainly just for storing your things.
Kenma bought a large bed for all three of you to share, which Shoyo greatly appreciated since he slept like a crazy person.
Daily Life
After things have calmed back down, you start a new job and do that during the days.
Shoyo is usually home by the time that you get home and Kenma is already streaming.
You typically come in and give him a quick greeting before you take a shower and eat dinner with Shoyo.
The two of you hang around for the rest of the day, either watching tv or playing a random game that was lying around while you wait for Kenma to get done.
Other times, you’ll join Kenma in his streams depending on what he’s playing.
Saturdays are still date nights and you usually start going out on those nights to get out of the house and away from work for a little bit.
For your lunch breaks, Kenma usually comes and picks you up before you both go get something to eat and bring something for Shoyo.
At night time, Shoyo usually goes to bed first. If you aren’t streaming with Kenma, then you’ll go to bed next and followed by Kenma.
If you are streaming with Kenma, most of the time Shoyo will have to brag you both to bed because you just want to stay up and play video games. Then he reminds you that you have to work in the morning and don’t ahve the joy of sleeping in like Kenma.
While you and Shoyo cuddle before you fall asleep, afterwards, he just moves around too much for you to cuddle with him. Luckily Kenma comes in not too much later so you can cuddle with him.
Sex Life
You and Shoyo both have higher libido than Kenma, so most of the time, it’ll be just you two, although you have to be quiet or else Kenma will get mad because he’s streaming most of the time.
On the few times that Kenma joins you, he is usually the one to take charge. He like to watch most of the time.
The only times he actually joins you is when he is frustrated from streaming or from one of his meetings.
It’s when Shoyo is away on tournaments does Kenma get more needy. You blame it on his need for dick, but he disagrees.
He’ll often send Shoyo videos of your -ahem- sessions.
Kenma even has a collection of toys that he likes to use on you.
It’s probably what Shoyo hates the most about Tournaments, all he gets is videos. Although he admits that Kenma does have the best angles.

Concept: Tater becomes a Twitch gamer in quarantine
He's the most likely to become a streamer in quarantine since he's an extrovert that would probably get bored with quarantine quickly
He'd start with playing by himself
People love his Minecraft playthroughs
but he'd get tired of playing alone all the time
Enter "Gaming with the Falcs"
He'd get as many of the Falcs on a discord server as he could
he would eventually add some of the Falcs' partners just to have more people
they'd play multiplayer games that are popular in 2020 and all of it is chaotic
Phasmophobia
Tater, Jack, Marty, and Thirdy
Jack likes this game, but it stresses him out
he has to take breaks from being in the building to look at cameras and keep an eye on ghost activity in the truck
Jack always gets the cameras and takes photos of the ghosts, the bone, and eventually Tater's dead body
Marty has gotten pretty good at the game
hes the one that actually figures out what the ghost is
Thirdy kinda just wanders around and yells the ghosts name trying to get other people killed
its always a coincidence if he finds any useful information
Tater always dies because he never stops screaming during a hunt
He throws things at people once he's a ghost, or he collects everything he can pick up into a pile
Among Us
Tater gets as many people as possible to play, getting both Falcs and their partners
He likes playing with proximity chat on because he likes delivering one liners before he leaves a room or kills someone
Tater and Bitty are an unstoppable imposter team
They are both masters at getting away with stack and group kills
they both suck at communicating for double kills though
Gabby, Snowy, and George are also amazing imposters
the worst imposter team is Jack and Poots
Poots always vents in front of someone and Jack rarely kills and sucks at creating an alibi
Bitty has definitely pulled the play where he kills Jack and asks who killed his husband when Jack's body is reported
as ghosts, jack and bitty follow each other around saying sweet things to each other
as ghosts, Marty and Gabby follow each other around and roast each other
Tater thinks both are hilarious
Snowy never does his tasks
George doesn't do many of her tasks, she just stays on cams
Poots has never gotten card swipe or Simon says right
Jack just wants to do his tasks. he never pays attention to where people are
he has gotten voted out for ignoring a body to do his task in that room before reporting
Raft
Tater, Snowy, and Poots
they share one braincell and the Snowy has it most of the time
theyre bad at communicating about resources they have
"who ate the fucking fish i was cooking?"
"...sorry, Snowy"
"Poots, I'm dying of starvation, you dick"
their raft is an architectural nightmare, with the exception of the one room that Tater built exclusively for a duck statue he fished up
Tater constantly dies trying to fight the shark in the middle of the water
they have to turn the raft around to go save him
Poots and Tater think its hilarious
Snowy does not
add more ideas if you have them!

Not really. I do want to get back into horseback riding, but as of now I neither have a horse to ride on nor the funds to buy one.

HALLOWEEN! That counts as a holiday, right, yes? I love dressing up, always have and since I do cosplay as well I feel it falls pretty natural for me to enjoy Halloween the most. I am fond of Christmas too, but that's just because I get to buy/make gifts for people.

I do! I play videogames most of the time when I'm not writing or busy otherwise actually. And I have a lot of favorites! 2016 Re-Cap!
Holy hell! A whole year of consistent development, it’s unreal. It’s been a lot of fun too. I started these dev logs back in December of 2015 as I was working a lot on Greg Green for a couple months. Greg Green was our main project because we had finally found a pixel artist. Until we unfortunately lost contact with them shortly after. So development paused and other games started blooming.
So let’s review this year! I think I will sort this by seasons. Starting with Winter.
Winter - The Beginning
Greg Green
As I stated earlier, I started these dev logs in December, while working on Greg Green. I think Greg Green deserves some status info after such a long silence. I want to get it clear that the game isn’t cancelled, or forgotten. It is just a project that is very dear to me and until we have the right assets, it isn’t time to start development again. We are hoping to start development again in the 3rd quarter of 2017 and release the game in 2018. Again, these are just hopes. (Pixel artists email us at [email protected]
Tumblr media
Spring - The Next Generation
We created a lot of games in Spring. It was almost like a new era of In-D Gaming considering most of my older projects were incomparable to these.
Advanced Tactics: Mini RTS +Expanded
It started with me entering a game jam called Mini LD #66 “Construct an RTS”, we had a week deadline. I found someone online in a previous jam announcement post’s comments who was offering his 3d modelling services to collaborate with someone for the jam. So I sent him a message, and we got in contact via Skype. That was fun, but the project was a little too ambitious (per usual jam entry). He created most of the needed assets but I did not have enough time to program everything and what was in the game worked clunky. It probably gave him a bad impression on me as a programmer, but I digress. It was a great learning experience for me.
Tumblr media
This project was similar to a project I entered for another Mini LD, “7-Day RTS (7drts)”, which had the same exact rules. This project was also bigger than my last 7drts, which while around the same level of fun, did not look as graphically appealing. I learned a lot of new things while developing both projects, and yet, both projects were also unfinished. I had plans to continue Advanced Tactics, just like my last project, but then I decided to cancel it, just like my last project. Also, very ironic. It was a fun experience working with someone in a jam though. The reasons for cancelling is because I am not very attached to the project, a lot of things would need to be redone, and I am also unsure of Kai’s current willing involvement. Maybe I will upload the source or leave it in my archive folder for messing with years from now.
Altruism: The Game
I also entered another jam shortly after called Ludum Dare 35. I created a small cute 2d metroidvania-esque platformer. Involving the need to guide 2 companions to assist eachother in reaching their goals until the level is completed. Definitely a fun experience, but the game wasn’t as fun as I intended. It’s gone through a few mechanic changes since the jam, and is even receiving a new update in February 2017 to celebrate companionship. This update will hopefully change a lot of mechanics in great ways, and fix a game breaking bug that was left in the game since then.
Tumblr media
[Old Gif Still Relevant]
CHax 2
In late April I started our game CHax 2. Which I released as early access on Google Play in May. Since then we have been updating the game every month and even reached over 20,000 downloads! It has been our most successful title and it is very dear and beloved to me. Thanks to ads we have been making enough to soon send the game to be reviewed for iOS to be available on the iTunes App Store. I hope to eventually create a good sized community with this game. It is my favorite project so far (besides Greg Green, of course).
Tumblr media
Later towards the end of spring, Online Multiplayer was added in v0.2.0. (image above)
Tumblr media
Then at the end of the year, the play menu looked like this. (image above)
Tumblr media
As of the time of writing, this is the latest version as of January 13th.
Phasmophobia
We started Phasmophobia as an entry to Mini LD #67 and like usual, we did not finish it. HOWEVER, we decided to continue development later and released the game in Fall. The original jam version ended up being mainly a tech demo. A lot of the main gameplay features and mechanics were missing but a lot of the visual properties of the game were there. It had the “basic idea” + some nice visuals and sounds.
Tumblr media
Summer - The Dark Days
This month was all progressive development of CHax 2 and Phasmophobia. It felt like they were both competing for my attention at the time (it still kinda feels that way). Not much to say about it.
Here are some old development screenshots:
Tumblr media
(Early Phasmophobia Build)
Tumblr media
(Early CHax 2 Build)
Fall - The Release!
This is when we finally released Phasmophobia: Hall of Specters and Phasmophobia VR. Unfortunately the launch wasn’t as big as expected and did not receive much attention. Nonetheless, we even updated the game, and more updates planned. Including a port to Gear VR. Stay tuned for more of that!
Conclusion/Resolution
Seems like those seasons got shorter as this post went on, but let me assure you there was a LOT of development going on in Summer and Fall but mainly to CHax and Phasmophobia. We have started a couple other projects on the side but haven’t finished or released anything publicly, except for O.C.D. Which is a game we released for a jam. (Which you can read about more in the December 2016 re-cap.) That game was a very small project, and it’s true name is “Oh! Circle, Dot.”. Feel free to check it out here. This year was an awesome year, and I am very proud of my self for staying consistent with my development and my monthly dev logs. I challenged myself to do it, and I did. This year I will make another challenge for myself to evolve as a game developer. I think my goal for 2017 will be... ...to release a game on iOS and Steam!
Challenge accepted!!!

Love For The Faceless
Corpse Husband x Youtuber!Reader(Female)
Warnings: Swearing
Genre: Fluff
Summary: Y/N is a YouTube gamer who has recently gained a much larger following thanks to the streams she does with her friends. Naturally, considering her faceless and bodiless nature, people are starting to get curious about her. When she finally follows her friend Corpse’s example, a lot more than her hands is revealed.
Requested by anon, you know who you are 😉 Thank you so much for placing a request and hope this fic fulfills the expectations you have for it.
“Hey!“ I greet the lobby as I finally hop into the Discord call after quickly saying ‘hi‘ to my audience.
I’ve been a YouTuber for four years now and I’ve only recently started streaming, encouraged to do so by my best friend Rae. She’s the one who got me in multiplayer games such as Among Us and Phasmophobia which led me to meet her amazing gaming squad that consists of some of the most famous names on the platform. They are all wonderful people and I will forever be in Rae’s debt for introducing me to them. However, becoming friends with Felix, Sean and the rest of the team brought not only a more fulfilled life, but also a small boost in following. Who am I kidding, it wasn’t small. It was overwhelming, terrifying even.
My YouTube channel had a little over a million subscribers at the start of quarantine and now....now it’s closer to three million. Speaking of three million, I’m about to reach it any day now and it’s really hard to believe. I’m a gaming youtuber and I’ve never considered changing my genre despite expecting to not get any attention whatsoever, with all the big names on the platform. I was convinced not even as many as a hundred people would stumble across my videos and now here we are.
My OG subscribers are very supportive of my sudden growth and are defending me when my newer fans ask for a face reveal or whatnot. While we’re on that topic I might have to mention that not even my YouTube friends, and that includes Rae have seen my face. I’ve been faceless and bodiless for the entirety of my time on social media. Some claim I do it to grab more attention or for dramatic effect, but the reason is beyond that. I’m not shallow. Actually, shallow people are the reason I don’t show my face. I’ve never been the prettiest, but my middle school bully thought that I wasn’t lacking self confidence enough. As a result, I ended up with a not so handsome scar on my right cheek that starts from the corner of my mouth and nearly misses my eye. Yeah, it’s a long and pretty noticeable scar that has thankfully become less and less obvious as the years have progressed. Still, it’s not something I’d like to show to my viewers.
Eight ‘hi’s greet me back, each making my smile grow wider. “Sorry I’m late guys. Technical difficulties.”
“Don’t worry.“ Rae’s voice dominates over the rest, “Corpse still isn’t here so we’re waiting for him.“
I mute myself on the Discord call and take a look at my comments. I’m most flattered by the comments about my voice. Seeing as how they don’t have much to compliment about me other than my content, they make the nicest comments about my voice, personality and humor. Those comments are the ones who warm my heart most. Even when people in my day to day life compliment my appearance I can’t find it in me to believe they are being genuine. I’d like to believe these amazing people are being one hundred percent honest when they tell me they like me for who I am and not for what I might look like.
“Sorry I’m late guys.“ A deep voice causes me to even physically jolt, switching my focus from the comments to the Among Us lobby where my eyes land on the newly materialized black avatar.
“Hi Corpse.“ Rae greets him.
“Hello mister who broke Twitter!“ Sean laughs, provoking the laughter of the rest of the players.
“Yeah, congratulations man. That’s a big deal.“ Felix chimes in.
“Thanks guys, but I think you’re forgetting we’re talking about a picture of my hand.“ Corpse chuckles timidly. I have noticed how shy he gets when someone gives him a compliment - like a snail slowly withdrawing in its shell. I find it adorable.
“That’s what makes it even better!“ I unmute my mic, sending my own congratulations.
“While we’re on that topic...“ Rae begins, waiting for the rest of us to shut our traps, suggesting she has something important to say. “Y/N, do you ever plan on doing a reveal like that? Not a face reveal. Just a body part reveal.“
I have no problem talking about the subject with friends but I get nervous when I’m supposed to discuss it with my fans. Seeing as how everyone, including myself, is streaming right now, I get a bit of a stutter in my speech. “Haven’t thought about it yet. But I guess a body part reveal is harmless.” I cringe immediately after letting the words leave my mouth, “That sounds so weird.”
Rae knows that I’m not too fond of my face, but I haven’t told her about my scar yet. I let almost all people I’ve met online think I’m using my lack of appearance for effect. For the mystery of it all. Mysteries attract people which equals attention. Attention equals views and the domino effect continues.
“Just a suggestion. No pressure.“ Rae adds quickly, knowing full well I get anxious when the subject is brought up in front of cameras. “Let’s get this game started, shall we.”
                                                          * * *
The idea dwells in my mind, sitting on the back burner even after I disconnect from the Discord call. I’m sitting in my gaming chair, which was a gift for my two million milestone, and weighing out the pros and cons of the action Rae suggested I take.
“It’s a picture of your fucking hand, dummy. How bad can it turn out?“ I say out loud, shaking my head at my indecisiveness. “You’ll be fine.”
In a blur, two pictures are already posted on my Instagram. The first one captioned ‘Took a leaf from my friend’s book. Did I do it right @ corpsehusband?’ and the second ‘Thanks, Rae. These are on you.’
Rae’s POV
As I’m watching a movie in my living room, I get a notification from Instagram, informing me that Y/N has posted for the first time in a while.
I scoff, “More like the first time in forever.”
The first thing that comes to my mind is the possibility of her reaching that three million milestone that’s been long time coming. I bring the glass of water that’s sitting on my coffee table to my lips, taking a sip as I tap the notification. The picture I see makes me hurry to put the glass back down so I don’t drop it. Y/N’s hand. Her fingers are covered with several thin rings each. And here I thought Corpse had too many rings, this girl has at least two on every finger!
Then my eyes land on the second picture she has posted only minutes after the first and my heart drops. I struggle to get the water that’s been sitting in my moth down my esophagus while my mind is struggling with the task to comprehend the picture I’m looking at.
Another hand is resting on top of Y/N’s. A hand also covered in rings but fewer and larger. The nails are painted black.
I think I know who it belongs to.
Before I can even finish the thought, I’m dialing Y/N. She picks up after the second ring, sound cheery as ever as she greets me. “Hey Rae!”
“Don’t you ‘Hey Rae’ me!” I practically scream. I hate being kept in the dark about anything ever so this is just driving me mad. On top of all, she’s my best friend, for fuck’s sake. “Is that Corpse in the photo with you?!”
“Ugh....“ the cheeriness to her voice is all but gone now.
I go on with my rant, not giving her the time to reply. Not that she would reply. I bet she doesn’t know what to say. “So he knows where you live?! Or was the picture taken at his place?! He knows what you look like?! You have seen him! He has seen you in real life but me, your best friend, haven’t!!! You are breaking Covid 19 protection laws to take pictures?! Are you fucking serious, Y/N?!”
There’s a long moment of silence which frustrates me even more but I literally have run out of things to yell and the power to be angry. I mean, I still am, I just can’t express it.
“Rae, sweetheart, please calm down. You’re scary when you’re mad.“ This girl has some fucking nerve! She’s on the verge of laughing!
“Listen here you...“
“Rae, please stop scaring my girlfriend.“ That oh so distinguishable, oh so familiar voice interrupts me.
I am flabbergasted, for a lack of a better term.
“Now that we’ve got you quiet, I can explain.“ Y/N pics up the conversation, “Corpse and I have been dating for six, almost seven months now. We started dating around Easter after talking for quite some time. We moved in together at the end of September. All thanks to you, Rae. You’re the best.” She pauses to breathe in real quick, “There, all caught up?“
I’m in no less shock than I was before she explained. Actually, I think I might be even more confused now. It all just feels like a fever dream. “Yes...no. I don’t fucking know! I need details, Y/N!”
“Details later.“ Corpse makes his presence known once again, “We’re watching Family Guy right now. Talk to you later.“
“Love you, Rae!“ Y/N calls out before the line goes dead.
My arm goes limp, dropping my phone on the couch next to me.
“Motherfuckers” I mumble under my breath.
Y/N’s POV
It’s been a week since Rae has stopped talking to both Corpse and me. I know she just needs some time to cool off. In the meantime, the rest of our friends were informed and, as oppose to Rae, were nothing but supportive and overjoyed. I bet Rae feels the same way though. Sean, Dave and the rest of the gang have confirmed that she’s incredibly happy for us and says she noticed a spark between me and him since day one, but she can’t help but be mad at us, and especially me, for not telling her sooner.
“Any regrets?“ I remember Corpse asking me when we hung up on her after dropping the bomb.
“Not being able to see her face when she saw the picture.“ I beam at him, feeling as content as ever.
He laughs, agreeing with me before leaning down to kiss me.
