I am starting to run into difficulties to do with the fact that LotRO is an MMO (constantly updating continuous story always leading to new regions and expansions) and I wrote two characters whose character arcs are (and always were) going to take them back home where they will settle down and live quite happily in relative peace with only intermittent adventures.
#lotro#the leonys of rohan cinematic universe#the black book and the trials of the dwarves stuff were both very much like. leading into eventual adventures#the first game-assigned pc character trait ive had to totally reject is the 'wants to keep adventuring' one because they dont#they really dont#honestly before the new gondor stuff drops im going to have to actually pick a new pc to assign future questlines to as a general rule#i really did not want to send leonys and hathellang to gundabad that shook things up bad#but there were just too many things that lined up in that direction#including the fact that years and years ago i casually threw in a detail#that the bow that leonys used after her original broke in angmar#that she thought was of angmarim make since she took it from them#was actually stolen from gundabad#like random detail that i wasnt going to do anything with but it does add a fitting endcap to the story i think#as for the angmar stuff yes it will be leonys and hathellangs purview but i think i shall heavily au#push it back a few years at least#for various reasons#not least because#the very first time writing fanfic about leonys occurred to me i was in angmar#it wasnt like. a retelling of the plot of the game i was thinking about it was like. 'post canon' stuff#or what was post canon then#but it fit in real well with the angmar stuff#general shape of the idea is that (since a lot of the rangers who were in angmar went with the gc and died)#leonys would be an important resource as a hunter and guide who had been to even the worst parts of angmar#and thus would be involved in some efforts to like. shut down its eventual obvious resurgence#which would happen when the cultists there had to come to terms with the fact that everything they stood for was gone#plot beyond that janky and open ended; 2.5 scenes and vibe

no offence but the reason tumblr is “dying” is, well, yes, of course the cursed like/reblog ratio and the change in user behaviour (because of people being used to how instagram and tiktok work) BUT also the lack of weekly shows. i say it with my whole chest, they don't produce captivating and engaging stupid weekly tv shows anymore because streaming killed that so you have spikes of activity here when Something happens in general fandom or up to three days after a new season of whatever drops and then it's a wasteland. this is obviously an old woman yelling at a cloud missing supernatural and the vampire diaries and pretty little liars and all these other shows type of post but honestly give me back weekly tv shows where i have something to watch for 40 minutes almost every day of the week after work so then i can read and reblog it on tumblr give it back for the sake of my sanity

I don't see any angry, vengeful Dogday in the ppt community so I'll provide for myself beCAUSE IM STARVING FOR THIS, HE DESERVES TO BE ANGRY-- ahem. Anyway, heres an AU where after there is still fire in Dogdays eyes and him being saved fueled the fire and now he wants to keep fighting.

When you say "even in canon this character is acting OOC" do you mean it as in "this character's canon dropped the ball on internal consistency with them" or do you mean "this character I normally relate to made a decision that I wouldn't have made" or do you mean "this character isn't acting like the fanon we developed by rotating them in our heads for 67295 combined hours away from the source material"?

someone probably said this already but in spiderverse i think it's interesting how when pavitr was first introduced everyone thought something bad was gonna happen to him bc of how confident and optimistic he was. and then in the actual movie we see that something bad was supposed to happen to him (police chief dying!) but it doesn't! miles stops it! and miguel berates miles for this, says it's going to cause the universe to collapse or whatever.
there's this idea that tragedy is inherent to spidermans growth, and while it's true that some spiderpeople learn important lessons through loss, no one stops to ask, is it really necessary? yeah, maybe the chief was supposed to die. but why does spiderman have to be formed through tragedy? why do we (as heroes) have to let people die? pavitr didn't lose anyone, and he's still a good spiderman! maybe, if he doesn't suffer, he'll end up better off for it!
so while miguel is arguing for all this big picture stuff about saving the multiverse he's lost sight of what it really means to be a spiderman, he's not looking out for the real individual people. yeah it's just one person who would die, but that one person means something to someone. shrugging and saying "stuff just sucks sometimes, we can't do anything about it" is the opposite of what superheroes do. pretty obviously, miles arc is also a reflection of the struggles people face in real life, working within unequal systems, where it's easy to shrug and say "that's just the way it is" and not ask "but why does it need be this way? can't we do something about it?"
miguel is arguing that you can't have your cake and eat it too. presumably, miles and co. are going to find a way to get around that and change things for the better (and maybe that's why miles has that line about two cakes in the advisors office!)

This is one of my favorite minor details in Dungeon Meshi, firstly because what in the femme fatale, but also because it's one of those little things that raises so many questions about worldbuilding.
The Occam's Razor defense attorney in me says that Ryoko Kui gave Kabru a boot knife because she wanted him to escape from his bonds here. And Kabru is a very competent swordsman, why wouldn't he have a boot knife, sure. He's already got a dagger, he can have this too.
And yet: the implications. Kabru, why do you have that? That is not remotely something that could be easily accessed or used in combat. Nobody is pulling out a pen knife from the heel of their boot during a fight with a monster. It's useless in the dungeon ... unless you're the type of person who isn't just worried about monsters.
I've mentioned this before, but I consider one of Kabru's functions in the narrative as being the character who fully brings the idea of human ecosystems into the story. There's a reason why he's always connected to large groups of people (Toshiro's party, the Canaries). He (along with Mr. Tansu, briefly) introduces the reader to the social and political forces working on the dungeon, showing us that none of this is happening in a monster-filled vacuum. His confrontation with the corpse retrievers, who very nearly kill Kabru's party permanently with their reckless murder-for-money scheme, reminds us that monsters are not the only things that prey on humans. Kabru understands the ways the dungeon causes people to put profit over human lives.

We only get hints of it in the story, but like any gold-rush-style economic boom, it's implied that there is a lot of crime and corruption surrounding the dungeon.
So yeah, it really makes me wonder why Kabru keeps a tiny knife in his boot, meant to be carried on him even in situations where he would otherwise be unarmed. Stored exactly in the place where it's easy to reach, even if, for some reason, your hands are tied behind your back.

you know that thing people do whenever they get so pissed off that they laugh? i'm convinced percy has 100% done that at least once. maybe a camper said the wrong thing about someone he cares about, and his gut reaction is to hurt them. but he knows he shouldn't do that. so he just laughs for a few seconds, leave his sword on the table, and spends the rest of the day in the camp lake.
