How’s Fields of Mistria? You mentioning it was the second time I heard of it, the first time being in passing, so I’m not too knowledgeable about the game.
AWWW THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ASKING!!
Fields of Mistria is SUPER fun, since there's not much to do in it after you've completed the first year right now, I've dedicated myself to breeding and collecting all the seasonal variants of horses so I can name them after the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse!
I also named all my barns after metamorphised lovers in greek myth because I have exactly one thought running through my head at any given point in time (Currently there's Crocus Coop where I keep my (gorgeous wonderful lovely adorable ouugh I LOVE THEMMM!!) blue chickens
Tumblr media
Cypress Barn where I keep my wonderful cows (who have been with me the longest and whom I cherish immensely! I'm not sure if Autumn cows are possible but I'm definitely aiming for a barn of all red and autumnal cows for obvious reasons)
Tumblr media
Minthe Barn where I keep all of my other large animals like sheep, alpacas and my very first beloved Chiron (black and white) and Iris (brown with spots) (the foal is Rigel) 🥺
Tumblr media
And Hyacinthus Barn where I have a collection of small animals like rabbits, capybaras and my PRIZED DUCKS LEDA (the pretty blue and green duckie) AND CYCNUS (the pure white duck meant to mimic a swan!!) Even though it's technically a coop, I mistakenly labelled it a barn when I was inputting the name and I never changed it LOL
Tumblr media
My farm is also named after THE metamorphosized lover, Daphne herself, so it's called Laurel Farm
Tumblr media
And I'm planning for my Seasonal Horse barn to be named after the poplar since I quite like Leuke's story and I think she's fitting of housing the horses that will be the steeds of War, Pestilence, Conquest and Famine :)
Bonus: My house is still small and eclectically decorated, but keeping in theme with my farm, I do hope to go for a flower/garden theme

THE TRINKETS WERE FROM HIM??? Dude. That adds like, a whole new level of creepy. I didn’t even realize.
one of my biggest goals with nexus aside from writing gratuitous smut was for the second reading of the story to make you go "ooooooooh."
there's a lot of things like that sprinkled throughout, but the trinket detail is one of my favorites. similar to xiao, i imagine blade being the type to leave little doodads as a sign of affection. it's low risk, high reward. out of all the characters i write for, blade is probably one of the worst at expressing care 😭 he is a mess. has no idea what he's doing. he doesn't want to know, either.

Oooh, I finally got contacted by the Avatar: the Last Airbender people about the figurine I won from the Braving the Elements podcast Live! panel I went to at Comic Con! Apparently, I won a Diamond Select Toys Uncle Iroh figurine that they’ll be shipping out to me soon! The whole panel was about Iroh, since his voice actor was one of the guests on the panel (as was Toph’s), so it makes sense.
Ha, I was so worried that I was going to be ghosted by these people, especially since my last name is commonly misspelled and my email address is just my first and last name, so it’s nice to have gotten contacted at least.
(Also, since I don’t know if I made a public post about this on this blog, when I was at Comic Con a couple weeks ago I attended a panel for the live recording of the Braving the Elements podcast that Janet Varney and Dante Basco (Korra and Zuko’s voice actors respectively) host. Since my mom is physically disabled, we were able to enter the room first and I got front row seats to the panel, and was able to book it to the line where they were doing trivia for ATLA. Now, I’m usually awful at trivia, but I am a fairly big ATLA fan, so I had some hope that I could get it. Luckily, the question I got was one I knew (at what stage of the siege on Ba Sing Se did Lu Ten die), and while I kinda didn’t get the question fully right, since I had no idea what they meant by stage, I answered that he died right as they broke through the wall and they were about to invade Ba Sing Se. Which Janet Varney accepted, ha. They told us to give our email addresses to a staff member to the side and they’d contact us about shipping out our prizes later, since they’re supposed to be a nice, more deluxe prize. After a week passed I was a bit skeptical about getting contacted, especially with the previously mentioned concern over my last name, but I finally got contacted which is a relief. ^-^)
(Oh! Also, I took video of them doing live script reads from the show, even though I don’t technically think I was supposed to?? No one has requested I take it down yet, though, so if you’re curious you can click on this link to see the YT video I made of it. They did three scenes, the one where Toph meets Iroh in season two, the scene where Iroh and Zuko reunite in the White Lotus Camp in season three, and the “father lord” scene also from season three. They also did a read of a comic book page with Iroh and June, but since I was on line for trivia at that point, the view is very obscured, and you can overhear the lady who was getting our signatures to acknowledge that we were going to be featured on a recording for a podcast. I also missed a bit of the beginning of the scene, but it was still cute, so I decided to add it to my video, ha. The actual podcast episode will be coming out at a later date?? From what I’ve seen of past live recordings, it can take months before they’re released, but if anyone does watch that podcast, you’ll hear/maybe see (if they post on YT) me answering trivia correctly for once, ha.)

What sort of things does V1 do to reciprocate the care that Gabe shows it? Like to contrast Gabe going out of his way to get it its gaming ice does V1 search out for things to keep him warm like quilts or firewood? or just random things that its magpie brain thought was cool?
(reference to this!)
oh yes!! v1 very much recognizes their opposite needs, with gabriel struggling to stay warm if he isn't fully dressed in his cape and armor, which of course he often isn't at home. v1 itself is typically very good at heat regulation, with its computer housed in an insulated box to keep it super-cooled while the rest of its body is made to deal with drastically varying temperatures - meaning it really only encounters over-heating issues if it's working its computer too hard (it could encounter extremes, but that's fairly rare). SO v1's modified the apartment to keep heat in, bolstered by a couple of space heaters it cobbled together to be sure it almost always feels like summer. and it does collect for gabriel when it goes out scavenging for itself, soon knowing his taste so well that the blankets and tapestries it brings back are as aesthetic to him as they are useful. in general, this is largely how v1 shows it cares, by working on projects that will make gabriel's life easier or by bringing home gifts - it's not any good with words and it knows gabriel's lost a lot, so its particular brand of affection works out just right

A concept I have dubbed the Friendship Bracelet Chronicles:
One day Solomon gives Ik a bunch of his old human-world things that he has no need for anymore. Mixed up in that collection is a box of some very pretty colorful thread. It'd be a shame to let that all go to waste, so Ik has an idea. She's gonna make friendship bracelets!
The bracelets are made and distributed to resounding success. Mammon cries. Belphie will kill you if you spill something on his. Diavolo won't take it off even for Very Important Announcements. Simeon wears his on top of his gloves even though it's a horrible fashion statement because he loves it with all his heart.
Ik thinks that's the end of it. Boy is she wrong.
One day Satan gives her a friendship bracelet of his own. He's made it with the same color Ik used for his bracelet along with little cat-shaped beads. Cute! Ik wears it proudly.
Then Levi notices and by the next day, he's made one with a goldfish charm. Then there's one from Mammon. Then Asmo. Then Beel. Then Belphie. And for a while that's it. Until one day at the breakfast, Lucifer walks in, and presents Ik with the most fancily woven bracelet so far. It's got little music notes embroidered into it. How the FUCK
It only escalates from there. The other exchanges won't ket their best friend status be encroached on and oh you know Diavolo has to get in on this! By the end of it Ik is wielding twelve bracelets, seven on one wrist and five on the other, and the others keep bickering about whose bracelet is higher in the pecking order
Imagine the added chaos if the newspaper club and season 4 trio got in on this....
this whole thing is so cute oml
om mephistopheles meets ik and when she shakes his hand he looks down and sees diavolo's friendship bracelet practically GLOWING up at him and he's just floored by the sight of it. meanwhile raphael thinks that the many bracelets are like, combat cuffs, and is extremely on-guard until simeon explains things to him
thirteen would be the first of the new trio to make ik a bracelet after becoming friends! it's pink-purple with little skulls and butterflies and bells that make it jingle. then raphael comes along with a pretty laurel pattern (painstakingly embroidered, because he's so good at that kind of thing). eventually, not to be outdone, mephistopheles produces a very elaborate silver thread one that looks like a dragon wrapping around your wrist
ik has to continuously rotate the order she wears her bracelets in because otherwise the others start play-bickering (and then real-bickering) about which one's the favourite

Can i see your interruption of hylia? Or maybe one of the golden goddesses???
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
going with hylia because im very much undecided on how i see the golden three, but post skyward sword i feel as though they'd be like how some christians view god as the world around them rather than an entity (just with their respective elements), if that makes sense??
i also think hylia would begin looking more owlish than human, but become more human (though uncannily) the further society progressed because 1.) humans (hylians?) believeing in gods that look more like them as opposed to something that doesn't and 2.) as their protector, she'd want to be more appealing to their eye (while keeping some of her owlish qualities) so she doesn't have to go through a "fear not my appearance" moment
because din has ganon(dorf)/demise and farore has link/the chosen hero, that would leave zelda/hylia with nayru-- at least in my eyes. since nayru -> water -> moon i think hylia would have a darker color pallete correspondant to that of the moon/night sky
also she's naked. and doesn't have breasts (instead pecs). as a god, what use for clothes do you really have? and as a being that wasn't mammalian to begin with, why would you have breasts?
her hair was supposed to be like owl feathers, but they look more like bubble braids and i like it regardless
she has longer and more muscular arms, thin waist, large pecs, slim hips but large thighs, and from the knee-down she how owl-ish feet
i also think that she'd have more moon/eye motifs ("hylia watches all," or something) but if i tried to draw it all on paper i think my hand would explode
(her face is more skull-like, so it can like UNHINGE unhinge, and i think thats neat)

hi I love your tags so so much! they were so sweet and so interesting and creative and the whole Aphrodite type of beauty thing sounds really interesting do you have any articles and recommendations to read further into it??
-hogoflight
Hello my fine feathered (I am assuming possession of feathers if you are, indeed, capable of flight) @hogoflight! I'm always always happy to hear that people appreciate my frenzied rambling in the tags :D! I have a lot of articles and recommendations :D!! Ancient Greek notions of beauty and representations of it in their art and sculptures is a pretty well studied topic! There isn't any way for us now to know definitively what the beauty standard was (it varied widely from region to region and culture to culture after all) but here are a couple of my favourite reads about Aphrodite and what her representations tell us about idealised beauty!
Probably the most empirically extensive one I can list is Krönström's thesis which compares statues of Aphrodite and literary text referring to both the goddess and mortal women to determine physical ideals for women in five specific eras of Grecian antiquity. Including measurements of the statues there are many descriptions of Aphrodite as 'curvy' with a 'voluptuous figure' and with 'ample buttocks and bosom'.
"When the beauty traits are described in the texts, they are never extreme or anything that could not be found in normal people just that they are more beautiful in every aspect. Furthermore, the sculptures’ physical forms look healthy, they are tall and have distinct curves. Great examples of this are the Knida sculpture and de Milo (the Melian) sculpture."
Of course, these images are still idealised, and there was still a concept such as 'too fat' or 'too skinny' found in written records (and this thesis even includes analysis of pornographic writings and descriptions of the fashion and stylings of pubic hair of women from different regions!!) but from an interpretational standpoint? There is absolutely no reason why these can't refer to a fuller figure. Height was also a very important factor after all and over the course of many eras, it seems like being well proportioned in addition to the length and appearance of one's hair were the most important factors (and, like Apollo, greater beauty was given to those with curlier hair)
Mireille M. Lee's 'Other Ways of Seeing' essay which talks about the forgotten female viewers of Knidian Aphrodite which is also extremely illuminating on how Aphroditic sexuality and sensuality was perceived totally differently from the well documented male voyeuristic gaze (which was overly preoccupied with the statue's nakedness and therefore over-sensationalised the statue's physical appearance) vs women's perspective on the statue which is more centered on the beauty of simplicity in Aphrodite's garment and decoration and in her power and ability to captivate both in her finery and without it. I think it's especially useful in exploring the importance of finery, jewellry and adornment in representations of Aphroditic beauty.
"Some of the small-scale copies are heavily jeweled, especially those from the eastern Mediterranean, for example the Hellenistic gilded terracotta statuette in the Çanakkale Museum (Fig. 5) in which the goddess wears, in addition to the armband on her (right) arm, the following: a necklace with multiple pendants; cross-bands extending over both shoulders and hips, with a cascading pendant in the center; a coiled snake armband on the left arm and another snake on her left thigh, and a twisted anklet on her right leg. (The left leg has been restored, and might also have featured an anklet.)"
"Jewelry is especially associated with Aphrodite in Greek literature. As seen above, in the Homeric Hymn to Aphrodite, the goddess adorns herself with gold jewelry, dress-pins, and earrings in the shape of flowers (162–3)..."
Finally, and to me, the most important one in the argument for an interpretation of Hyacinthus as fat, beautiful and fundamentally Aphroditic comes from Brilmayer's brilliant brilliant thesis done on Aphrodite's work and influence in Archaic Greek Poetry which does away with all of that masculine preoccupation with physical proportion, measurement and bodily ideals for a focus on a Sapphic Aphroditic ideal centered in clothing, ornamentation and, most importantly cunning as symbols of Aphrodite and ultimately a feminine idealised form of beauty. This paper also discusses Pandora and Helen in these terms and it is just kind of a wonderful read tbh.
"Combining Homeric and Hesiodic elements with her own ideas, she [Sappho] alters the way female beauty is viewed. For example, the Homeric war chariot – a symbol of male, military prowess - comes to symbolise the totality of Aphrodite’s power uniting in itself male and female qualities. Having addressed the concept of beauty directly, Sappho then concludes that beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. With the help of Helen of Troy and her beloved Anaktoria, Sappho sets out to reinvent the concept of female beauty as a godlike, subjective quality that may be expressed in many ways, yet remains inspired by Aphrodite."
The conclusion to all of this of course is that Aphroditic ideal beauty is much more fluid compared to its stricter Apolline masculine standard. The nuances and understandings of both are of course, constantly being studied, analysed and scrutinised but really, if Dionysus who was both bearded and clean shorn, effeminate, birthed and rebirthed (and twice gestated!) and strongly associated with vegetation can be popularly portrayed as fat and handsome, why can't Hyacinthus?!
#ginger rambles#ginger answers asks#Once again I do not care how it happens or who I have to pay#I don't even care how much research I have to do#All I care about is more unique portrayals of Hyacinthus#Literally that's it#I will go through every academic hoop to make that possible if that's what peeps need TRUST#No because there's a genuine conversation to be had about a Hyacinthus who is split between masculine and feminine qualities#Likewise there's a wonderful conversation to be had wrt Apollo's fluidity in terms of presentation and how it does not reflect on his gende#the way Dionysus' fluidity reflects on his#Apollo is ALWAYS masculine no matter his ornaments garments makeup or action#It doesn't matter that he has the prettiest curls or wears elaborate dresses for his kitharody and dances#or values the deep dyes of the lapis - Apollo is ALWAYS male and that cannot be concealed by any finery or garment#Aphrodite however is an ally in this measure because through her beauty bridges the gap between the mortal and the divine#And we see this constantly in the way mortal beauties are able to attract the eye of many gods and how glory and ultimately immortality#are gained from these things#After all even after their deaths or betrayals or tragedies#We still tell their stories and remember their names#And what is Apollo if not the one who recites all of these beautiful memories - what is Clio if not the one who records these histories#ANYWAY PLEASE DRAW FAT HYACINTHUS#PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE#I AM ON MY KNEES I AM BEGGING (no pressure seriously I'm being very lighthearted) BUT ALSO PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEEEEE#TOGETHER WE CAN KILL THE PATROCLES/HYAPOLLO VISUAL PARALLELS WE CAN DO IT I KNOW WE CAN#ANYTHING SO THAT XANTHIAN DEVIL ARISTOS ACHAION DOESN'T GET ANY MORE PARALLELS WITH APOLLO P L E A S E#This is of course entirely because of my own biases and such there's nothing objectively wrong with comparing and paralleling#Hyapollo and Patrocles - however and I cannot stress this enough#P l e a s e#Thank you for the ask <33 Always a pleasure to provide more relatively obscure references mmhm#Hope this helps!#oh almost forgot

What was Orianna like during her youth? and if she has known Regis for a long time what was their first meeting like?
Tumblr media
Warning! The following pov is strongly influenced by mun’s read and has no watertight proof in the games.
Since her birth Orianna was trained to be the next guardian of the gates, a duty of the Unseen Elder of Toussaint. Thusly, she was prohibited to leave Hen Gaidh until the ritual of adolescence; yet she interacted with other fledglings of her age, who returned to the designated part of the caves for rest and, generally, were raised up all together, similar to as bats raise their young. That was the time when she met Emiel Regis. Although, if asked directly, Orianna would confess, with a certain degree of annoyance - the sun-eyed did not like to dwell too deeply on her early times in Hen Gaidth - that she could not highlight any particular memory of their first meeting. It seemed that Regis had always been at her side - full of curiosity, practical jokes, and a craving to belong to...something. The time of their youth manifested those differences in a sharper manner - both were wild, unruly and driven by the desires they tried their best not to face alone, but rather drown in blood and thoughtless mayhem. Only Orianna longed to escape her role as the next Unseen, to 'un-belong' to the looming, sacred duty, while Emiel Regis would break his very fangs to be a part of something and feel at home. Neither were kind or wise enough to offer each other a way out, yet they found a certain connection, while hiding from their fears. While they could never understand each other, they developed a deep sense of trust, rare among cold and changeable immortality. No one ever judged another, however frightfully their claws crushed. They learned not to draw too much blood, never cut too deeply. They separated for what would seem an abyss of time that devour all old affections, during which there were shattered love affairs, being buried alive, stage performances, several wars, flowery toussaint coronations, an array of pretenses and self-lies - however, no matter what new ways of survival and moral dogmas they devoted themselves to, what new masks put on - Orianna and Emiel Regis realized they longed for each other's company more than ever - and began exchanging, in a classical sporadic manner of timeless beings, what would seem the most bizzare correspondence. Long, detailed travelling tales and memoir-like letters, full of sketches from one side and curt notes, accompanied by the works of art or common, mundane objects that fascinated the other. In the end, as with the poisonous desires that tore and their insides during their wild days, now they were connected with another kind of longing - a shy, budding love for the new, hostile and beautiful world.
