1. YEASYESYESYESYES!!! Jhad is my murder drones OTP. I thought of it one day when I realized that (in my own world of headcanon and shipping preference, anyways) Uzi has N, Lizzy has V, and Thad has nobody, which, as a Thad Stan(tm), I could not let stand. And I realized J exists, and I thought about it and was like, no, and then looked at it again and was like, YES. They’re such a random-ass pairing but I love them so much?? Like, it’s literally perfect. Corporate’s bitch with emotional problems meets adorably stupid sweetheart Chad who is physically incapable of being hurt or hurting someone. And the first time they meet, she’s trying to kill him. And also the second time. And the third. Basically all of their interactions.

2. Okay, so, there are two options we can take here, depending on how angsty we’re feeling. (I’m assuming that this is a scenario where Thad was turned into a DD at some point). Option 1 is J being really sad cuz her crush friend snack she’s just saving for later that’s all, go away, is cursed like her. He’s never going to get to see the sun again, or see a worker and not immediately think of the oil coursing below their casing. He’s cursed like her, to live in searing agony forever, without even the freedom of death. Chained to suffering for eternity by a monster with yellow eyes.

Also, bonus thoughts on if Thad had always been a DD:

I think Thad would still be pretty chill and friendly towards DDs, but also, our boy is an athlete. He would absolutely be a great murderer. I also think that he’d make little games out of it. Like, how many workers can he kill in a minute? Throwing a living one in the air, then flying up to catch and kill them before they land.

All of that would definitely not endear him to Serial Designation “Corporate Efficiency” J. But also, I think he’d grow on her by being his usual sweet (aside from the murdering) self, which she would then deny to herself because attachments are a weakness, especially where the Solver is concerned.

6. Do they have pet names for each other? Do they like them?

No, they don't. They are used to be called or with a nickname (V) or with their role or surname (Col. or Hansen), so they really really like to keep their first names for themselves. It's also a form of recognition for them, something like: “I see you for who you really are.”.

Yeah, knowing and using their first names is really important to them.

(In the fic from a certain point forward I also address them with their first name when they are alone together, and by the nickname/surname when they are with other people)

7. What's their most and least favorite thing about each other?

For him what he probably likes the most is the fact that she truly likes him, with all his flaws and dark sides.

But also the fact that she's not normally compliant but seems to make an exception for him (even if her stubborn and defiant side sometimes pops out, but that makes everything funnier!).

The thing he hates the most is that she's stubborn and can't accept any help even if she needs it.

Violet can't explain what she likes about him. Probably a series of many little things: his smell mostly, his voice and the way he moves. What she likes about him is very instinctual and irrational for her.

He's a crazy warlord, leader of a gang, and by now you might know Violet's opinion of gangs.

16. How do they react when the other is upset? How do they try to help?

They are both observant people so they usually notice quite quickly if the other person is upset.

He is more of a problem solver. So he tries to fix the issue that's causing her bad mood. Or he talks her ears out and tries to make her share what's the problem. Or, well, sex. He uses sex (and fear… they got hand in hand for them) to get her out of her head. It usually works.

She is more of a cuddler. Often the fact that “she sees him” being upset makes him feel important and noticed and that alone lifts his mood.

Other than that a lot of physical touch. A LOT, she's really touchy. And food. There's nothing that a nice meal can't cure in her opinion.

20. If they disagree, who's usually the one to compromise?

Guess who? Violet is more flexible and prone to compromise. She lets slide the things she doesn't like and is too obsessed by him to let smaller things get in the way of their relationship.

Five: Dexter Charming.

He's not a bad character, by any means. He just ... doesn't interest me as much as the others. But I like his interactions with Raven. They're not my OTP, but they're a cute couple.

Four: Lizzie Hearts.

Her design is creative and interesting, and I really enjoyed her "Off with their head!" running gag. I might like her more if I saw her in action in Way Too Wonderland; I've only seen clips of that special, not the whole thing. (Also, I think the attempt at an English accent was a bit dodgy.)

Three: Maddie Hatter.

She's a fun character to watch - cheerful and goofy, but not to the point of annoyance. She's a supportive, encouraging friend for Raven. She gets some of the funniest lines. Her design is really cool, especially her bouffant multi-coloured hair. And I like the fact that she shares a voice actress with Amy Rose. I love it when I find connections between my special interests.

Two: Raven Queen.

I keep switching between Raven and Apple for the top spot. (Which is amusing, because I also quite like how they switch roles - Apple sometimes acts like an Evil Queen even though she's supposed to become Snow White.)

Right now, Raven's in second place, but not by much.

Raven appeals to me because of her mixture of strength and vulnerability. She's strong because she stands up for what she believes in, and she's determined to make things better for herself and for others like her. And she's got cool magic powers to boot! But she's also vulnerable because she has to struggle against the assumptions people make about her and the boxes they want to put her in. And she's clearly deeply affected by her mother's notoriety.

Raven is arguably the main character of Ever After High. The overarching plot is kicked into action because she doesn't want to follow her destiny. Unlike previous Rebels, who kept their transgressions a secret, Raven makes her act of defiance in a very public manner, and it encourages others to follow suit. Her story could be read as a metaphor for a member of a marginalised group fighting to change a system that holds people back for no good reason. Raven's quite inspiring, in that way.

The only thing I don't like about Raven is her hairstyle. I don't think it's the most flattering look.

One: Apple White.

Oh, Apple. Some people love her, some people hate her. I'm in the former category.

Don't get me wrong, I know she's flawed. She's so focused on what she wants that she doesn't stop to consider what other people might be going through. She sometimes says really insensitive things because of this. She claims to be friends with Raven, but keeps trying to push her to do things she doesn't want to do (including, but not limited to, poisoning her). And sometimes her dialogue sounds uncomfortably smug.

But I think it's precisely these flaws that make Apple an interesting character. She symbolises the kind of person who's benefitted greatly from an unjust system, and is scared to shake things up out of fear of what it'll mean to them personally. It's the old "To the privileged, equality feels like oppression" problem. By spending time with her, we get to understand that mindset - and we're perhaps forced to confront it in ourselves.

There could be another angle to Apple's resistance to change: an autistic headcanon. She's a logical thinker who likes to follow the rules and do things by the book (unlike Raven, who's more of a creative problem-solver). I like the idea that Apple is anxious about the future and that change is a major cause of stress for her. It does complicate the privileged-ruling-class metaphor, but hey, I enjoy a bit of complexity.

I also find it really interesting that Apple is a hard worker. She doesn't need to be. She's got her future all planned out; she's guaranteed to be loved by all. But she doesn't rest on her birthright laurels. She studies hard in school. She takes on leadership roles as practice for becoming queen. She tries to help people and address their concerns, although she doesn't always succeed. Apple wants to become the most beloved queen ever, and I can admire that determination.

And then there's the headcanon that Apple is a lesbian and didn't realise it because of comphet. It's a kiss from another girl, not her supposed Prince Charming, that wakes her from her cursed sleep in Dragon Games. Can you imagine how much that would shake her up? To believe her whole life that she's destined to be with a prince, so she accepts it despite her lack of chemistry with her prince because it's destiny and destiny is never wrong, only to discover that she might actually be attracted to women instead?

Again, that would mix up the privileged-ruling-class metaphor. Imagine if Apple realising she didn't fit the queen-to-be mould as she was "supposed" to, realising she was closer to the oppressed than she'd care to admit, was the thing that sparked her change of heart from Royal to Rebel. Now that would be interesting.

(Oh, and her hair. I love her hair. It looks so thick and soft.)

Apple White is many things at once, and that's why I love her.

favourite thing: big fan of how the reveal about him being leonid was done!! it was very nicely paced and written props to weaver. of course it goes without saying i love everything about him but this is my favourite off the top of my head

least favourite thing: this is more nitpicky than anything but i’m sort of sad that he (or the demon, rather) broke character, per se, when talking to wes? i’ve always been a huge fan of overly formal/polite villains so i would’ve loved to see their conversation keep that politeness especially when they start physically fighting. not to say the moment when the facade fell wasn’t cool as fuck though, easily one of my favourite parts of the scene.

favourite line: chapter 26, panel 43:

Yes. Of course yes right good everything's fine hello. Hello good afternoon. I'm fine. It's all fine. brOTP: honestly? huge fan of him and ridder. yes they’ve never interacted but this isn’t going to stop me. they both take comfort in the whole song-and-dance of social customs and manners, i think it would be very fun to see them talk, especially with ridder being a fan of the strategic side of things. they’d bounce off eachother very nicely i’d reckon

OTP: you know me robyn. its wespendleona. pendle has (at least) two hands and with what he’s been through he deserves both of them held. them :]

nOTP: since divequest doesn’t really have a fandom i guess i don’t really have any? i am yet to see a dq ship i can’t get behind, especially a fanon one.

random headcanon: his third set of arms is actually vestigial! he isn’t quite a spider but he isn’t much of a regular bugfolk either, he’s more somewhere inbetween.

unpopular opinion: again. dq is a fandom of 6 people. i don’t think it’s possible to have an unpopular opinion as of right now

favourite thing: how clever he is at times. it’s especially clear in the recent few updates, which have been SO fun to read. sure some of his plans are stupid and sure he doesn’t harbour the most emotional intelligence but god can he be slick when the time comes. i love him

least favourite thing: i’ve never been much of a fan of his uh. glaring attraction. to many of the women in the series. i do think it’s a pretty iconic trait and it does fit his character but i’ve just never had much fun reading it, unfortunately.

favourite line: i don’t know if this counts, but like half the things the voices say? the suggesters are funny what can i say. as for actual lines in-comic he says so much stuff i don’t have the energy to sort through and pick my favourite right now. he says a lot of fun things

brOTP: him and dompag!!! i am a firm believer in the headcanon dompag has managed to befriend everyone in the vault and acts as a shoulder to lean on, which i reckon muschio could really use. muschio has many problems and dompag has been shown to be a very good problem solver, as well as making up for the emotional intelligence muschio lacks. i think they work great together

OTP: again. i’m a very obvious person. muschio/ridder has planted itself in my brain since the hot spring scene and it has not left since. what am i gonna do? say no to childhood friends to strangers to enemies to friends to lovers? scoff. i’m better than that

nOTP: same as for pendle, i don’t really have one? he has a personality that pairs well with most characters and i don’t really have much reasoning to dislike any ships with him.

random headcanon: ok buckle up it’s volto biology time. as an amphibian he doesn’t exactly fare well during the colder seasons and tends to be far more sluggish and far less focused, as well as practically clinging to any heat source he comes across. if he had the choice he would sleep through winter completely but since he can’t so much as catch a nap he doesn’t really get that luxury.

unpopular opinion: divequest six-person fandom strikes again

Hi mutuals/followers, nice to meet you. As I’m getting friends in Pokeshipping fandom, I want to introduce myself. Cuz naturally, when befriending someone, we want to know their view on the fandom and other ships.

General things to know about me is : I’m an office lady in somewhere in South East Asia. I am working long hours from 8 to 10 hours/ day so this might affect my productivity. I will check my account once a week or a month, if I’m lucky I can check it everyday. I get art request a lot. Please don’t get offended. But, most of the time, I have to refuse simply cause I don’t have enough time.  EXCEPT when it comes to my OTP, your art request will be queued in my to-do list in chronological order. (I might not do it if I’m uncomfortable with the topic or I’m busy for my office).

Despite inactivity, I love making friends and am a chatterbox. Do not hesitate to leave me a message, I will eventually check this account.

My OTP and why i ship them

Pokeshipping (Ash x Misty)  : FOR ME, They are canon already.

They like & love each other. Ash showed jealousy when another guy was around Misty and tried to steal her attention (such as Rudy).

Misty also showed jealous reaction whenever another girl was around Ash. (Melody etc)

There are also scene where Ash explicitly state Misty looks beautiful.

Their adventure together has ended, but I believe they communicated a lot offscreen. The proof is : Ash held on to Misty’s lure as if he can’t live without it. So, eventually she has to send him a new stock, right ? How is she gonna know if they don't communicate regularly through email or phone? :D

OK Honestly I don't care if this ship sink. I'm going down to the deepest ocean with it.

Cavaliershippping (Dawn x Gary)  : Hello this ship is so HOT. First, Dawn is such a cute fangirl for Gary. she recognize him as  a reliable guy, a talented problem solver. I love how Gary showed his polite gentleman side with Dawn. He recognized her before she introduced herself. and he followed her whims when she wanted poetry (although he himself isn't a poet like Grandpa Oak).

I planned to write a slowburn cavaliershipping where Dawn was jealous of Gary’s playboy past . Eventhough he changed already, Dawn want to make sure Gary know only she is worth to become his only cheerleader. She would ask Ash to convince Gary and arrange a meeting so she could get the opportunity to get close to him! Ash will tease him all day. How cute. I was truly inspired by a fic in ffnet where Goh teased Gary and ask if Dawn call Gary as "Prof Oak Jr or Professor Playboy" Thank you author (I forget the title but I will update later)

Oldrivalshipping (Leaf x Rival, Green x Blue) : I see Rival/Green as different character from Gary, they just share the same character design.

When i played Pokemon FireRed years ago... I always felt that rival has the biggest crush on my protagonist, he was obsessed and he just didn’t want to admit it!

Palletshipping (Gary x Ash) : This ship is so hot, it burns the whole Pallet Town. what else can I say? Just like Pokeshipping, I am obsessed for years. Amazing development through series. Gary was a jerk but I loved him for that, and I knew Ash loved him for that too. Gary teasing Ashy boy all day is a method to express his attraction and we all know it succeed cause Gary stole Ash's whole attention every time he shows up.

Ok that's all my OTP

NOTP : Ok let me state this first. When it comes to my NOTP, I will not engage in it all. If you ship it, that’s cool. I support the shippers.

My NOTP consist of other ships beside pokeshipping. REASON : (Do not continue read if you are my NOTP shipper, I don't intend to bring down other ships, just voicing my opinion just in case my fellow Pokeshipper/Palletshipper want to know) I don’t ship Ash and Misty with anyone but each other. I have specific reasons but mostly because I felt that Ash and Misty liked each other already. So when other character like them, their feelings are one-sided.

I also don't ship Ash with any guy except Gary. Cause for me they are epic together. Ash's chemistry with other guys are watered down version of Palletshipping.

But I’m ok with other ships with Gary and Dawn. I enjoy Ikarishipping, Rivalcrushshipping, etc etc. I am just not that interested in it. Unless maybe you can give me good reasons.

Now if you ask me if, why newer ships are not on my list ? It's not because I hate new characters or because I prefer OS. (My favorite new character is Regina (I love Ice Pokemon and I had a thing for one-time character like Giselle) and I love SuMo & Journey) I just don't have strong connection with them yet.

Oh also... the character I relate the most in pokeani is Erika. Modest and elegant, that is just my style.

favorite thing about them: Honestly? His focus. He's a problem-solver. He focuses on whatever task is in front of him, and while he's the golden child, I honestly don't know if he'd be the best fit for Steward because he seems to be at his best when he's thinking about concrete solutions to discrete problems.

Oh! The other thing is that he evaluates the advice given to him for what it is, not based on the authority of the advisor. He’s not going to accept bad advice just because it comes from a trustworthy source, and he’s going to be honest about his thoughts. So he’ll trust and respect the advice of the council of Elrond, but not to the point where he doesn’t ask questions or question things that don’t make sense (I’m thinking about Caradhras here) It’s a good skill to have as the de-facto heir to Gondor, and it makes sense that he’s not in awe of elves or Gandalf and acts among them as a guest but also as an equal at least in political status, though his experience is vastly more limited.

At the same time, he’s not arrogant or haughty. He's a team player. He’s supportive of decisions for the most part, though where the ring is concerned, things get skewy. He’s not the kind of person to rub mistakes back in your face. He’s compassionate and understanding (which we see even in the way he treats Frodo as he strives for the Ring).

least favorite thing about them: Honestly Boromir doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I suppose his positive traits are also double-edged swords. Focusing more on the advice than the giver sort of has Feanor vibes? And you can see where his focus leads him when he talks to Frodo about why he wants the ring and how he would use it. He can see his corner of the world (Gondor) and his place in saving it (political, but primarily military leadership), and it’s his practicality, drive, and focus that the Ring exploits. He’s too busy thinking about what he must do to save the day that he misses the grander scheme (yet he’s doing it because he cares! he cares!).

brOTP: Um, Faramir, I guess. Though I guess it’d be kinda sweet if he’s got a brotherly relationship with Bergil. I can easily imagine Bergil hero-worshipping Boromir, and so I think it’d be sweet if Boromir did acknowledge him and know him by name.

So I feel like there’s a bit of a structural problem with the LotR fandom. Characters are often written in pairs or as foils, and inevitably the comparison starts to turn towards “who’s better?” Then, if you don’t ship them, there’s a tendency to aggrandize one character’s virtues and minimize their flaws (which tends to happen everywhere), but then the comparison game starts. Because they have a paired character, the natural next step is to lionize your favorite by de-emphasizing the other character’s strengths and virtues (and sometimes also highlighting their flaws). (I’m not immune to this by far, btw, and am possibly about to engage in it.)

This happen the most with Frodo and Sam, but I think you also see it in Boromir and Faramir. Because obviously, in the books, Faramir is the golden child. Not in his father’s eyes, of course, but narratively speaking. And I have mad respect for him.

Most people don’t try and diss Faramir (because frankly. it’s hard. like, what are you going to say?), but there’s a tendency to downplay the fact that Boromir is his culture’s golden child, and Faramir...isn’t. Which isn’t to say Faramir isn’t beloved by those who know him, but his strengths are not valued in the same way that Boromir’s are. Faramir knows this. And given Boromir’s attitudes discussed above (how confidently he assumes his position in the world), I can’t believe he’s the 100% supportive, loving, sensitive, protective brother that fanon depicts him as. I don’t see how he can be.

Don’t get me wrong, I do believe the brothers love each other deeply. But growing up with siblings has taught me that it’s possible to love someone and yet be deeply wounded by them due to the casual and inescapable intimacy of your relationship? You can share more inside jokes and weird stories than anyone, yet you can never get away from how deeply they know you--not your thoughts, but who you are at home and who you were when you were seven and how you acted when someone broke up with you or what you did when your parents were furious.

You also know exactly how you match up against them, because you will always exist as a unit. And because your relationship is as natural as the lens  in your eye (you can’t imagine viewing the world without it), you forget about the other as a person and just say something and don’t think about how it hurts them. You can joke about this one thing and your sibling can carry around the hurt for years and you didn’t even know. And maybe the hurt isn’t even your fault--maybe they were just sensitive and you had no way of knowing, but the hurt doesn’t go away for the lack of malice. And even best-friend siblings are capable of malice towards each other at times.

So Boromir is good at things that Faramir isn’t, and Boromir knows it. He’s probably ribbed his brother in what he thinks is a playful way about when you’re going to shape up, or do X, or do Y, or why do you do that, anyways, or do you realize that’s a little unbecoming? maybe you should stop that. You know Father’s going to think that you’re... And he doesn’t realize how those slights can add up over the years. I do think he’s said things to his peers about his brother that have ended up hurting him. No matter how pure and nice he is, that sort of thing is unavoidable, and due to his cultural upbringing I don’t actually think he’d question the appropriateness of his attitude/acceptance and glorification of martial prowess at the expense of those who don’t have it in the same degree.

I think this passage is really telling:

For on the eve of the sudden assault a dream came to my brother in a troubled sleep; and afterwards a like dream came oft to him again, and once to me. 'In that dream I thought the eastern sky grew dark and there was a growing thunder, but in the West a pale light lingered, and out of it I heard a voice, remote but clear, crying:          Seek for the Sword that was broken:          In Imladris it dwells;          There shall be counsels taken          Stronger than Morgul-spells.          There shall be shown a token          That Doom is near at hand,          For Isildur's Bane shall waken,          And the Halfling forth shall stand. Of these words we could understand little, and we spoke to our father, Denethor, Lord of Minas Tirith, wise in the lore of Gondor. This only would he say, that Imladris was of old the name among the Elves of a far northern dale, where Elrond the Halfelven dwelt, greatest of lore-masters. Therefore my brother, seeing how desperate was our need, was eager to heed  the  dream and seek for  Imladris; but since the way was full of doubt and danger, I took the journey upon myself. Loth was my father to  give  me leave, and long have I wandered by roads forgotten, seeking the house of Elrond, of which many had heard, but few knew where it lay.' 

There’s so much you can read into this. Faramir has this dream, and he has it many times. We know he’s a lover of lore and no less devoted to his kingdom than Boromir, though his love is expressed differently. He is “eager” to heed the dream. So would I if I was having prophecy dreams all the time.

But is Faramir a member of the fellowship? No. Why? Because Boromir “took it upon himself.” He wanted to do it, he thought himself the better candidate (and Faramir the worse), and he argued his way into doing it against his father’s wishes. Coupled with Denethor’s later attitude towards Boromir, I’m inclined to believe Boromir was uniquely able to obtain this quest for himself because Denethor has a soft spot for him.

I find myself inclined to disregard Boromir’s account of Faramir’s motive (”how desparate was our need”), because it sounds like he’s justifying the appropriateness of his actions.  If it’s just about the great need of the kingdom, it’s nothing personal that one brother goes and the other stays. That view implies  that Faramir’s interest in this mission is primarily utilitarian in purpose, with a little academic curiosity--that is, it’s nothing personal. Doesn’t matter who goes! Not as long as we protect the kingdom! Which...just doesn’t square with his description of Faramir having repeatedly cryptic dreams that he wants to understand. I can almost guarantee that Faramir wants to know what those dreams meant more than Boromir.

It’s a bit tragic, because ultimately Faramir was more suited for the quest than Boromir (tramping about in the wilderness doesn’t seem to be a problem, he’s also a team player, and he’s much more willing to accept the power of the Ring/not downplay its personal danger, and would be able to see it in a bigger picture beyond just Gondor). Ultimately, though, if Boromir was the one to catch Frodo in Ithillien, the story would have a veeeeeeery different ending. (Gollum would likely be dead, and I can’t imagine he’d be inclined to just. let Frodo and Sam go free.)

I kind of view their relationship as a much less antagonistic version of Agravain and Gwalchmai from Gillian Bradshaw. (Agravain is more of a jerk than I can ever imagine Boromir being, and has a wicked temper). 

Also none of this is to say that I don’t think he’s not protective of his brother.

So a lot of words to say: I don’t think the Boromir and Faramir relationship is as uwu cinnamon roll as it seems in fandom. I think they loved each other, but I think Boromir did have a tendency to take what he wanted when he thought he deserved it and not give it a second thought, even when it was at the expense of his brother. Sure, he’d defend his brother night and day, but I expect him to be a bit of a jerk, be unaware of the extent of his behavior, and also see little wrong with it (the ring quest seems to have crossed a line, by the way he justifies it).

Still, they do love each other deeply and genuinely. It’s just a little more conflicted.

Not a particularly creative association (and I don’t associate him with Connor at all), but his death comes as such a shock at the beginning of TTT and brings with it so many mixed feelings due to both their relationship and the circumstances of his death. Nobody’s mourning is straightforward: not Frodo, or Denethor, or Faramir, or Aragorn, or Merry, or Pippin. His absense is woven throughout TTT and even RotK, in plot and in emotion and in theme.

Why ReiKasa is a (BR)OTP ship that’s worth more than a fleeting glance

[*caution: a continuation of a long reflective post with the sole intention to share a fan’s perspective through available representation through manga, anime, exhibition & etc. This post is not to convince nor argue where is its place in canon, but only to explore the vast possibilities of these two amazing characters that I love. In the end, if the series ends with Mikasa alive & ending by herself or with X character, then it means Isayama believes that X character is the one she’ll find that eventual happiness with and I’m all for that. Same goes with Reiner :)] Special thanks to @berumika​ for sharing some of the additional points that are included in this post. Years down the line after SnK ended, I’d love to have a post I can revisit of these two amazing characters & the possibilities that could have been from time to time. I’m having absolute fun in observing how much both of these characters have grown since the series debuted in 2010.

When I first got to know SnK/AoT, it was through the anime first before manga. Bad idea for me. My initial perspectives of Mikasa & Reiner were skewed and that was later rectified as I navigated the original source directly. Eren is the first protagonist that was introduced by the series creator but I was drawn to Mikasa & Reiner when I started the manga after Season 1 ended. 

Trainees

These top two trainees of the 104th batch are closely matched to each other in ranking. We don’t see them interact directly in the anime, but in the early panels of the manga, Reiner could be seen sitting down with Eren, Mikasa & Armin during mealtimes.

Sure, Mikasa can be expected to not converse with Reiner directly, but if her two childhood friends have their good friend sitting together for meals, at the very least we can expect them to have some brownie points in socialization.

Apart from being total gorgeous hotties, they’re both physically strong people, with Reiner always being second to Mikasa in terms of brute strength. Total muscle pairing and I could see them being at par with each other during physical drills. Reiner & Mikasa could go all out, even beyond 100% and the other would be physically capable to take/receive the force. Shadis would’ve tasked them to lead the physical trainings from time to time. They have been sparring partners, evident from the moment Mikasa threw Reiner across the field into Eren who’s sparring with Annie. Their fitness regime would be in-sync with each other. I could see them having mad respect for each other and secretly admire the other person’s prowess and skill. 

Connection through Eren

As highlighted primarily in Pt.1, Eren has been shown to look up or aspire to be high achievers like Reiner and Mikasa both. He wanted to be as strong as the two of them. The odds of the very same people he look up to, as the two individuals who would be able to stop him, I would suspect as very high at this point.

When they were younger, Reiner has always been the one that’s pulled Eren up when he’s down, nearly giving up & at the lowest points of his life. He was also the one who convinced Eren to ‘keep on moving forward’, which we’ll learn later was one of the most ironic moments that Reiner recalled as he feels responsible for everything that begun, which also pushed his guilt inside him to his near-suicide attempt.

Survey Corps

Reveal on Wall Rose

Mikasa, was one of the few junior SC members who were called in for the secret meeting with the unit’s top brass the night before the reveal. She was made aware of Reiner & Bertolt’s possible identity as the enemy after she assisted with apprehending Annie in Wall Sina. While Reiner was talking to Eren, Mikasa could be seen being highly agitated, hands shaking as she waited with unease breath for Reiner & Bertolt to make their move.

She was later seen questioning her hesitance on delivering the killing blow or at least enough to incapacitate them. Mikasa called Reiner & Bertolt “the plague of humanity” in anger and absolute disappointment. They were still her friends that she knew for three years & it had been difficult for her to kill them.

Thunder Spears Training

Mikasa could be seen reflecting in a combination of unease, sadness & regret as she recalled back the moment she was unable to break Reiner’s armor with her blades.

Return to Shinganshina

Mikasa was the one who crippled the Armored’s legs. She wasn’t as emotional as Connie, Jean & Sasha but there was a deep, painful rumination on her part the moment they assumed that Reiner was dead dead. She was also the one who noticed the sudden move from Reiner’s Armored Titan. In the anime, she could be seen angry & frustrated at Reiner’s refusal to confess that she pulled too hard on the bandage in her hands while she was helping Jean with his injuries.

Time-Skip (Current)

Reiner’s reminiscence & nightmares

Reiner’s reminiscence of Mikasa was indirect, but he highlighted her (and Armin’s) fierce, unwavering loyalty towards Eren. He had recurring nightmares of her & Levi that are the symptoms of his PTSD. The anime specifically used her shot to highlight the last image of her that he saw: anger.

Assault in Liberio

You could see the existing disappointment on her face when Reiner’s partially transformed Titan appeared, having to cross paths again in such a way after four years. She could’ve intervened the way she did with Galliard’s Jaw but she didn’t. Eren said Reiner’s out of any energy left to retaliate and Mikasa didn’t disagree. At this point, Mikasa is already affected by Eren’s actions in murdering the women & children inside the building that he shifted in and the destruction they all left behind.

Connection through Gabi

Reiner’s young cousin reminded Armin & Mikasa of a young Eren. The difference is that, Gabi had an early opportunity to be saved through the compassion showed by Mikasa and Sasha’s beloved family. The very same people who had every right to be sad, grieving and taking out their anger on the child who gunned down their beloved friend & daughter.

Mikasa doesn’t verbally express her emotions but it can be shown through her body language & facial expressions. I love seeing the tender way she pressed Gabi’s head onto her shoulder as protection and a symbolism of safety. It was a bit sad that this ‘bond’ was short-lived but what an amazing connection it would’ve been if Mikasa & Gabi had been given more space to develop their bond in canon.

Concern for Reiner & Annie

Usually when Mikasa verbally expresses something, it is usually important/significant to her. In ch.124, she could be seen asking Gabi about Reiner’s location. Why? It’s because she is concerned for Reiner’s safety. If his Armors were undone, he was vulnerable and with pure Titans and the Colossal Titans walking around, he would be in danger.

“We need to help Reiner & Annie.” She was heavily concerned with Reiner and Annie’s lives at the docks. But this moment is more important for Connie as a callback to the moment when Annie & Reiner both had saved Connie when they were trainees.

Adjacent Manga/Official Art Paneling(s)

In the current final arc of the manga, (several panels have been highlighted in Pt.1) it’s quite interesting to note that Mikasa & Reiner’s characters/panelings have been drawn adjacent to each other. I could also see the way Armin, Reiner & Mikasa (ARM) are getting primary focus by Isayama in this final arc.

Cool-faced Cookie (Attack on Titan Game)

When Reiner suggested the player to do a melee practice with two other sparring partners, he immediately spotted Mikasa & Historia. It’s very interesting to note that Reiner’s nickname for Mikasa is “Cool-faced cookie” as he hinted the player to ask Mikasa for an impromptu practice.

The blink and miss furtive glance(s)

In Lost Girls OVA’s ED by WIT, a screenshot of the primary 104th walking together could be seen. Mikasa could be seen sneaking a glance at Reiner.

In a scene during the fresh SC recruits discussing intensely about Eren’s role as humanity’s hope, Reiner could be seen glancing silently with concern for Mikasa, as Jean questions her vouch of confidence in Eren’s abilities.

In Snk OVA#3, Mikasa is grouped with Reiner for the excursion and they could be seen having good teamwork together. When Mikasa’s ‘sixth senses’ are triggered due to Eren being in danger, Reiner could be seen looking at her direction immediately as if sensing her distress. 

Characteristics & Zodiac Signs

Amazing/Compassionate with children

Known as the Shield of Marley, Reiner’s a caring keeper, a natural leader and a provider who’s naturally amazing with children. Everyone looks up to him. Would’ve made a good family man if the circumstances were different. Based on his characteristics & physical attribute, he reminds me of Mikasa’s father below, no matter how short-lived he was. I could see her admiring that side of him even if it wasn’t mentioned directly. They are both loving, selfless, protective towards their child/ward.

Mikasa, true to her name, an Ackerman, a genetically-enhanced super soldier/warrior of Paradis that wields their blades with the highest efficiency. Though she might not seem as natural with children, did come from a healthy & loving upbringing with her parents for nine years. Her real persona as a child pre-awakening is a curious, thoughtful and actually a warm-hearted girl. Post-awakening characteristics could also be contributed from the traumas imposed by the murder of her parents, the fall of Wall Maria, the death of Carla & having to shoulder the immediate responsibility as Eren’s new ‘guardian’/caregiver/problem-solver/mess-cleaner.

She shown her compassion towards Gabi, which in turn had proved to the little girl how there are good-hearted, forgiving people in the Island. Mikasa could be observed as being heavily concerned with Falco as she questioned Jean about the young  boy. One could see the anger on her face when she saw Connie took off and abducted Falco to be fed to his mom. She drew the line in harming children even if they’re trained enemy soldiers.

Aquarius & Leo’s Compatibility

Reiner’s a Leo and Mikasa’s an Aquarius. Their characteristics are too coincidental to their respective astrological signs to be disregarded completely.

He’s an extrovert (Ref: younger!Reiner. Older Reiner too but his PTSD’s and maturity have taken over his more outgoing personality) that compliments her introvert personality yet they both have their inner demons to deal with and could somehow understand that about each other. He’s a ray of sunshine that could enlighten her melancholic personality. Yet their dominant personalities, although might be clashing at first, eventually would lead them to respect the other’s perspective. This would ring true when they were younger. Currently they have grown older, wiser and more understanding of the other.

At the current Final Arc, this has been highlighted in Part 1, recent chapters have shown older Reiner and Mikasa’s unspoken respect and understanding for each other. The current Reiner’s natural leadership as a born Leo is very apparent. Reiner was being very mindful of her feelings as Eren is a very sensitive subject & Mikasa took in Reiner’s words with serious consideration. 

It would be great to see more of their combined synergy as Reiner & Mikasa’s teamwork could be seen once again in ch.135. Aquarius & Leo would take turns to take a back seat while letting the other leads.

They are actually very physically and sensually compatible with each other & could potentially be an unstoppable force if they were to fight for the same side. At the moment, I’m hoping to see this potentially deadly combination once again in ch.136 onwards. They could’ve overtaken Eren’s Founding Form is it wasn’t for OG!Ymir’s one-sided overkill powers. To the real God who created the parasite worm, please take powers away frpm this uncontrollable grandma in a little girl’s body.

Since this is SnK and not Berserk/Tokyo Ghoul/insert other josei manga titles, no one’s having sex directly haha In an ideal world, Reiner & Mikasa’s physical attractions for each other will almost be off the charts. “When they find true emotion, Aquarius might actually end up respecting the king”. In current arc, this can be observed. She respects Reiner & his words.

The above describes both Mikasa and Reiner respectively. Mikasa does not reach for heroism directly but it can be seen indirectly from the way she had inspired a child Louise through her bravery, protecting Gabi and rescuing/protecting the Azumabito Service crew from the Jeagerists. Reiner has always been born to be a hero, regardless of the circumstances of his conception or birth.

“If they end up fighting for the same cause, they could turn down entire governments and use their incredible force to change anything in the world.”

Even oppressive, destructive supernatural, God-like powers? Ymir & Eren, better be prepared. 

 “To get there, these two would have to stop the battle they have with each other.” Check and Check.

“Leo -- has the ability to give clarity to any situation.” Ch.133. That was not Reiner projecting. He’s always been Eren’s counterpart. He’s telling the readers that there’s a part of Eren out there that still wants to be stopped since he has surrender his will to Ymir. This could ring true for the younger Reiner & Mikasa.

Reiner and Mikasa both are indeed strong, selfless individuals in each other’s eyes. This can be observed in Ch.133 & 135. Reiner feared her but respect her strength & feelings when it relates to Eren nevertheless. Even Reiner was taken aback by Pieck’s ultimatum in blowing the Founder’s neck, although Armin had suggested the same thing the night before.

“Just like the Sun and the lightning don’t go together, Aquarius should take over on a rainy day, in a depressive crowd or in places where they both feel as if they would drown. This is where Leo needs to give in and let their partner rule the sky--”  It wasn’t a rainy day or depressive crowd in ch. 135, it was a chaotic shitstorm and they were all not drowning but dying. Period. Our dear Mikasa took charge like a BAMF Queen that she is. She was putting her life on the line to protect the four injured men behind them. She aimed to buy them more time if she could as everyone expected it to be the end. As highlighted in Pt.1, you could see the helplessness on Reiner’s face when he saw Mikasa’s breaking point.

Final Exhibition

The Final Exhibition highlights the Last Stand: the direct final confrontation between The Founding/Attack against The Armored, with Mikasa being in the middle of the confrontation, tipping the scales of the outcome. Before, she assisted Eren against Reiner. Currently, she is working with Reiner to stop Eren.

Trio(s) Parallel

An interesting panel from ch.97:

EMA & RBA have always been lauded as the main trio of their respective sides. We have seen Armin taking over Bertolt’s powers & is potentially promised a future with the girl that Bertolt had feelings for. Recognize the probable pattern?

Guy from trio 1 ate Guy from trio 2′s Titan & is promised a potential future with the girl he cares for/have feelings for/close with from the trio.

Only one between between Eren & Reiner will remain. What if the story begins with Eren but will end with Reiner all along?

SnK HighSchool AU / Breakfast Club X-over

In the movie, the Jock (Quarterback!Reiner) ends up with the Rebel (Goth!Mikasa). He looks past her eccentricity & see her for who she is. This is a fun crossover by Isayama but very interesting to see Armin, Mikasa & Reiner work together to save Eren in the fake previews.

Whether the combined strength and perseverance of the Blade of Paradis & the Shield of Marley be enough to save the world from total annihilation? It remains to be seen very, very soon.

No matter how the series ends, whether both Reiner and Mikasa survive or not, I’ll be looking back in pride upon seeing their journey, growth & dynamics as either individual or together in this beautiful series by Hajime Isayama’s brilliant mind. Because of him, these two characters inspired his readers, myself included, to be brave and fight for what they truly believe in: humanity & its continuation. It has been an incredible ride and I will continue to enjoy writing for this OTP/BROTP, that I’ve fell so deeply in love with and their vast possibilities.
