Thinking about how Asakura had the highest body count, but even then he never got to kill and in some cases even really get to have a good fight the riders he really wanted to. Kitaoka specifically comes to mind for this.

Asakura never really got much of a chance to have an actual battle with Kitaoka that satisfied his needs.

Even if he killed the most riders compared to anyone else in the Rider War, it never mattered to him. Because he never got to add the specific riders he wanted to fight the most to said count.

He got to commit so much carnage, to fight as much as he wanted. Asakura was given a golden opportunity for a person like him when Shiro brought him into the fight. Now he can endlessly battle to his hearts content. Continuing that endless cycle of violence that he craves so much.

But it doesn't matter. Because he didn't get to have what he truly wanted.

And going back to Asakura and Kitaoka: He felt so dissatisfied, and angry, when realizing that he killed Goro instead of Kitaoka. Realizing that he was already dead, and that his chance to fight him and have that fight where his needs and urges are satisfied has long since passed.

So he snaps.

Being pissed off and not feeling satisfied enough, realizing getting what he wanted is impossible now, and then just rushing towards what is certain death for him in one last ditch effort to cause more carnage is a death that suits him from a thematic standpoint.

Asakura lived as a man who was always angry and never satisfied, endlessly craving to create more violence and destruction. It only makes sense he dies the same way too.

Chapter Eleven

The burn leaves no mark

The next few moments for Lloyd were a blur.

He remembered the rock giving way under his foot and falling, arms and a tail reaching out to grab him, a splash of white hot on his hand, and the world going black in a blink. 

It seemed like the journey back out the pyramid was much quicker than going down — although, they didn’t have to worry about any possible booby traps going off.

The first taste of the fresh night air slowly roused Lloyd out of whatever stupor he’d been in. And the warm sand under him shocked his system.

“...didn’t hurt anything did you?” Skalidor asked, looking Lloyd over. He turned Lloyd’s hand this way and that as someone else checked the back of his head.

“Unharmed,” said the Serpentine behind Lloyd.

“I don’t taste any blood,” said another.

“Seems to be dazed,” said a third.

“Does he still have the Fangblade?” Snike asked.

He was quickly shushed by a few others.

“Young one,” Skalidor said, taking Lloyd by the shoulders and gently giving him a shake. “Lloyd, are you alright?”

Think I enjoy Shadowbringers because the most I think about its people, its regions, its major players. The deeper the plot goes, the deeper the symbolism, the lore expands. Shadowbringers is the only expansion that "uses every piece of the buffalo". Nearly everything in it weaves back into itself. A ourboros of meaning, of everyone, everything, and everywhere being a shadow, echo or reflection of everyone else. Even the role quest is just a reflection of the one true struggle at the center of the expansion.

Hi! I loved the latest chapter (that Amir CG good LORD) and I’m really looking forward to the next Mori chap! I have a question that’s a bit heavier, so I totally get if you don’t want to answer, but I was wondering how our boys would be with an MC that struggles with addiction, like alcohol or really bad smoking or the like.

I can touch on this in a vague/general kinda way! Addiction is a topic that's had a big impact on me personally so I don't wanna shy from it- however, I do want to keep "canon" TCM's grungy but generally not harsh tone in tact, if that makes sense!

I think in cases of an obviously massive addiction problem that's clearly a threat to the MCs life, across the board all the guys would be insistent that some kind of outside help is brought in- though that will look different depending on the situation.

I think Mori would be the most understanding by far. However, I don't necessarily think he would be the healthiest influence on an MC with a substance abuse issue. He has addictive tendencies that can get out of hand if he's not careful and yall might be an ourboros of bad ideas when mental health dips and stressors rise.

Kazu is likely to be understanding but he's also probably the most prone to taking harsher measures to prevent you from indulging. I.e. literally taking alcohol or cigarettes out of your space or otherwise enforcing some kind of embargo on you. He's not one to be overly judgy but he is very black and white about like "This Thing Is Causing Harm Ergo Remove Thing" and you could cry and yell at him and hed' just be a brick wall with his arms crossed.

As for the rest of them (except Raath, who's maybe more along Kazu's vibe depending on what the MC's getting into and how bad it is), I think there's varying quantities of They Love and Support You and Chide You for Bad Habits to They're Asking You To Seek A Pro. All of them want the MC to be happy and reasonably healthy, so whatever it takes to get a really destructive habit back into the "Maybe Not Great but Not Terrible" sector.
