This is supposed to be the outfit that "protects" Link from acquiring frostbite pfffttt
Between this top and the mandatory acrylics that come with the new arm, gotta say I'm loving how much Nintendo keeps leaning into GNC Link XD
MINI UPDATE: (Guys, I've already updated this post with the correct info. The "protects" part was supposed to be a joke about how skimpy the outfit was. I didn't realize the outfit gave an attack bonus at first, either. That was it. That was the post. You don't need to keep sending me messages trying to inform me about the frost attack. I know, I promise).
Update I: Just realized they gave him a set of blue acrylics for his left hand
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Link really do be out here serving cunt 💅💅✨✨
Update II: Many thanks to the people who pointed out that this outfit gives you a special frost attack when in cold temperature areas, it doesn't actually protect you from the elements. I'll be honest, I am purposely avoiding any guides or walkthroughs for my TotK playthrough (since I'm trying to replicate my BotW experience). When I found the Frostbite Shirt, I was just happy that I finally had a piece of clothing that I thought could protect me from dying of hypothermia (was chugging spicy elixirs like you wouldn't believe) so I didn't notice the attack bonus until a bunch of you pointed it out lol

Yandere Link reactions to Darling wearing their clothing?
I'm only my favorite dorks. I would put wind in here but he's a kid. and besides you're too big to even fit so..... ehhhhhhh
Also, there is slight NSFW on twilights part
Tumblr media
Wild-
Depends on what are you wearing?
My boy has so many clothes that even Barbie can't even keep up with. but let me tell you he will get so happy.
yeah... let's go with that.
But if you two wear matching outfits up to heaven he goes. He likes to see his god(dess) in his clothes. He likes smelling them after because it smells like you and him. He will wear your clothes no matter how small because he likes your smell.
(I think he has a smell kink don't come after me!)
He just won't let you out of the house if you wear his Vai outfit
he can only see that. only he can see you dressed like that
"Hey, y/n I got us some matching shirts! I thought you would like it!"
Sky-
AWWWWWWW you are so cute!
I like to think Sky's lover would be smaller than him.
He likes it when you wear his shirt. he likes that it hangs off of you slightly.
It shows everyone that you belong to him.
He would go feral if you two had matching outfits. but like those goofy ones.
Like you wear the 'I'm with stupid' and he is the 'I'm stupid'
You know that kind of stupid shirts.
He really likes it.
Or if you wear his old knight uniform in his Hyrule. Feral I tell you.
"Hey! I found this while going through my old room! I thought you would like it!"
Twilight-
So... Since this takes place after his adventure
You're fucked. No like literally
It's in a wolf's nature to... scent themselves. They also lick and boop noses when they like something. But you're now covered in his scent.
and he's Feral.
like when alone he'll drag you to an alley and nuzzle into you. Taking in your scent.
Wolves scent each other when they are mates (I didn't know this until I looked it up) so you putting on his clothes and getting his scent all over you while you putting it on his clothes, Pretty much is telling his wolf side that you want to be mates.
"You smell so sweet... nice to know you like me that much y/n"
Four-
Four is small
How do you fit? I don't know.
I like to think he wears baggy things.
So when you wear them he really likes it.
Another loser who likes matching with you.
kinda of a mix between Sky and Wild with the matching stuff. Really likes goofy shirts and silly pants but when it comes to big things like parties or victories you two will go shopping and get you two matching suits or dresses.
I like to think four wears your clothes whenever you're not around. Just to feel your warmth.
"Sorry... I just missed you... Don't leave me. Please. I like your warmth more then I like the smell of your clothes"

I’m so sorry to overwork you with three requests back to back
But like…
Time wearing the Gerudo Vai set????
Please?????
You don’t have to though
If you need a break, take one by all means
But like
I would be frothing at the mouth
*thinks about sending this ask*
THE BARBARIAN SET
TIME IN THE BARBARIAN SET TIME IN THE BARBARIAN SET TIME IN THE BARBARIAN SET TIME IN THE BARBARIAN SET TIME IN THE BARBARIAN SET TIME IN THE BARBARIAN SET TIME IN THE BARBARIAN SET TIME IN THE BARBARIAN SET TIME IN THE BARBARIAN SET TIME IN THE BARBARIAN SET TIME IN THE BARBARIAN SET TIME IN THE BARBARIAN SET
So…no vai set unless that’d be easier for you
But like…Time in the Barbarian set
*insert flappy hand image*
You’re completely fine! Keeping my brain busy rn with the request lol. ALSO YOUR MIND?! SO BIG BRAINED! Now I have to force the entire chain + the triplets (Wild, Sage, Cal) into a fashion show with reader, Malon, and Ravio as the outfit choosers!
A/N+Warnings: safe for everyone. We are gettin’ silly with this one. Written by Mishwanders - pls do not repost.
How in Hylia’s name did you convince the entire Chain to do a fashion show in Times living room? Truly, it baffled Time how much power you held over them with just a simple pout and puppy dog eyes (not to mention Malon was also helping you with that - make him extra weak to BOTH of you. Ravio not so much, but the Vet seemed to cave for him). He and the others caved quickly from the look on you threes faces to say the least.
Between Wild and his new found counterpart, Sage, they had more than enough outfits to go around for each of the Chain. You, Malon, and Ravio we’re going through the pile of the clothes, tossing them to each person, matching up the outfits you all thought suited them best. Time shook his head as you looked up at him from the floor, that mischievous plotting grin on your lips made him realize he was in for trouble.
“You’re wearing this!” You shouted, tossing him what looked like a set of Vai clothes from the Gerudo.
“And this!” Malon said, tossing something else at him that seemed a bit heavier even if there was little clothing. The skull head piece definitely added to the weight of it.
Time looked at you both in disbelief. “You can’t be serious.”
“Oh what’s wrong old man, too cucco?” Sage asked with a sly grin.
Oh no. He was not going to let the new Link call him a cucco. Not by a longshot. He huffed at his response. “No, I just don’t want to rip this nice fabric of yours and Wilds.”
Wild shrugged. “I think you’re fine, they haven’t ripped yet and I’ve fought Lynels in those!”
Cal’s eyes widened at the mere thought of his counter part wearing little-to-no armor against a Lynel of all things. “You WHAT?!”
“Don’t worry, we deal with much worse in the future.” Sage commented.
That made Wild’s head turn on a swivel. “We DO?!”
While the triplets were in their own little world, Time felt your hands pushing against his chest, trying to get him to move towards the stairs. “The others are almost done changing, now go! Get ready!”
“Alright, alright, I’m going, I’m going.” He chuckled.
Time made his way up the stairs to change, finding some of the others already dressed in the armor sets. Wars had dawned on the “ancient armor” as Wild called it - some reminiscent of those guardians he and Cal had discussed on length about. Sky was wearing the Snowquil set, happy as can be to be wearing something reminiscent of a bird, and Twilight was wear the Mining set, one that looked almost as heavy as Times armor.
“So which one did they give you?” Legend ask, coming out from behind the closet wearing the Zora armor.
Time held up the Vai pants, to which the other snickered.
“Get your laughs out now.” Time said, removing his own clothes and getting dressed into the Vai ones. “At least I make the clothes look good.”
Warriors shakes his head with a chuckle. “If there was one thing you were never short on, it’s confidence.”
“And height.” Time added, placing hair up in the golden tie.
There was a knock at the door before it opened, Four came in wear the Voe outfit, Hyrule with the Flamebreaker, and Wind with the climbing gear. Four looked around at them all and waved them all to come out. “Come on, they’re ready for us!”
The Chain filled out of the room into the hall, each one taking their walk (or rather, strut) down the steps to the lower floor. There was a series of cheers, ohs, ahs, and laughs as each one made their way down, striking different poses. The triplets even went down in an interesting series of fits that reminded Time of those dragons in Wild’s realm. Wild was wearing the blue Frostbite one, Cal in the red Ember one, and Sage in the green Charged one. When it grew to Time’s turn, he went down with Four, both of them striking a pose in their Gerudo outfits. Seeing the look of glee on your face as you snapped a photo of it and the pleasantly surprised one of Malon’s made it all feel worth it.
“Okay, now, OUTFIT NUMBER TWO!” Ravio spoke up. “Go back upstairs, you’ve got 5 minutes to change!”
The fact that they were all set on an imaginary time limit caused them all to rush back upstairs to their clothes to change. Time was quick to change out of his and into the Barbarian one, but he knew he was going to falter with the body paint. There was only one thing he could do to make sure it was on before their limit was up.
He needed to ask for help.
Time strolled down the stairs with the purple paint and paint brush in hand. You and Malon both turned at the sudden sound of his footsteps, looking at him with wide grins at his new outfit.
“Could you help with the body paint? I don’t know where it all goes.” He stated, swallowing what pride he might have contained.
You ran back up the stairs, grabbing the Purah Pad form Sage. Malon took the paint and began to paint the marks on him once you got a picture pulled up. Time felt his face turn Ruby red as you and Malon both meticulously worked around his body like this and he could have swore he heard the snap of the Sheikah slate from somewhere amidst the room (most likely Ravio - Time knew he was going to have to beg Wild to remove that evidence somehow). Regardless, it didn’t seem like you or Malon noticed the way you both had him flushed hotter than a Goron spring in his attempt to contain his embarrassment under this situation. But you two worked fast and thankfully the paint dried easily. As you two stepped back, admiring your work (and him), you both nodded in approval, praising how good it looked.
“You do look good!” Ravio spoke up.
Time did a double take. Did Ravio really just say that?!
“What are you wearing?!” Wars voice came from the stairs and Time could have swore he heard the click of high heels -
Time turned around to face him, seeing him dressed up in a pink wing that covered his eyes with a tall mushroom hat that almost hit the ceiling, along with varying other pieces of clothing. Time laughed at how absurd the captain looked. “What am I wearing?! What are you wearing?!”
“It’s called fashion.” Sage countered, coming down in his ancient knights outfit.
“Yes, yes, you all look good - but now we got reveal time, so go back up stairs and get in your positions!”
The chain did as you instructed, each one other in a single file line this time. Here was the line up: Twilight in the Zonait armor; Warriors strutting in his CeCe’s amalgamation; Sky in the Glide, flapping his wings happily like a bird; Wild sneaking in with the Sheikah stealth armor; Sage of course in his ancient knights outfit; Cal wearing his fancy lad royal guard outfit (one he was very comfortable in); Legend in the Mystic outfit, feeling reminiscent of his magical rabbit form; Hyrule and Wind both bumping into each other because they were unable to see with the Depths and Phantom armor on; Four crawling on the ceiling wearing the Frogfy fit, and finally, Time in the Barbarian armor.
Needless to say, the room was full of cheers and laughs as they all witnessed each pose and outfit.
To say the night stopped there - well, it didn’t.
After the little fashion show, some of the others switched their outfits to their favorite ones and took to the back of Lon Lon Ranch, resting out the abilities of each one. Things might have gotten a little destructive - no animals or buildings were harmed in the making of said destruction - but there is now a permanent crater in the back of Lon Lon Ranch, one that Time intended to fill with water and fish later.
It was an entertaining night to say the least. But hey, at least everyone got to relax for once.
It was fun.

It all started shortly after he first rescued princess Zelda. When he was with her he always made sure he was well dressed and behaved politely, however while traveling they quickly noticed how often people failed to recognize him, even people he had extensively interacted with previously.
It wasn’t until he stumbled into a stable after fighting both a Lynel and Hinox, covered in sorts and his clothes torn up that he realized what was happening. The travelers at the stable were excited to see him, claiming he hadn’t been around in ages even though they had passed through just days before. They all thought he was 2 different people!
He shared this discovery with Zelda, and after a while of laughing over the whole thing, they decided to make a game of it. What are the most wildly different impressions Link can give someone without them realizing he’s the same person. And so when traveling with Zelda he was The Champion. He wore the tunic and the master sword clearly visible, was a silent sentinel against all danger. And when she sent him off on errands he would revert to his most feral self. Travelers will see him through a bomb in a river, and then eat the dead fish raw, all while wearing a vai outfit and a moblin mask. Of course they never connect the dots.
When Zelda disappeared again he did everything he could to hold onto hope, needed to believe he would see her again. And so he decided to give her a gift, the greatest prank he could: he would save Zelda and Hyrule again, all without anyone realizing he was the chosen Hero.

Pinky Isn't Suffering
Chapter 2
Previous chapter - Next Chapter
Reminder these chapters happen between Enno cant get their crap together on @luimagines
Being a wolf in the desert is torture. Yet here Twilight was, in wolf form, waiting in the scorching heat of the desert. Luckily, the wait was almost over. After buying the things they needed, losing Pinky for a moment, then annoying Wild and Enno to buy the amber earrings she had pointed out, Twilight now had to wait here with Pinky outside of the city while Wild and Enno picked out a Voe outfit.
The upside is that the sun was shining. The downside was that there was a man staring intensely at Pinky. Twilight was keeping an eye on this man for many reasons. Mainly for how he treated Wild when he was in the Vai outfit. It was clear that he was trying to create a game plan on how to approach her, but every time he would step close, Twilight let out a deep growl as a warning. The guy could come over but it’s not gonna look pretty.
A warm hand went through his fur. “Don’t worry too much Wolfie.” Pinky said crouching down to give the giant wolf pets. His tail started to wag as he leaned into her touch. “Aren’t you a cutie.”
Despite the distraction, he was still glaring at the man to stay away.
“He won’t bother us.” Twilight knew that in theory but there was a deep need to make sure Pinky wouldn’t get harassed. “When we get back, remind me to give Twilight his gift.” She pushed up his face to give a small kiss on his forehead.
Ah.
Twilight's mind went blank. He couldn’t even be mad that she got him something. Not that he could think anyway. Her kiss made almost everything his attention was on disappear. All his focus was now on how her hands felt through his fur and how sweet her voice was.
“Aw, is wolfie being a good boy?” Wild came out finally with Enno who looked like they were suffering.
“You guys got everything?” Pinky finally stopped her attack and gave Twilight space.
“Yep! Let’s get back before night time.”
The cool air made the track back to the oasis a lot faster and less grueling. The only downside is that as the night goes on the closer it becomes below freezing. Twilight couldn’t feel it but judging by his traveling companions he knew it was starting to settle in.
This had already been a long day. When they returned to the rest of the group it seemed the general agreement was to sleep and restart tomorrow. Which everyone was more than grateful for.
“Wanna cuddle with me Wolfie?” Pinky had asked when they all were heading to the inn. “Come on, it must be cold for you to be out here.” She says almost herding the big dog into the inn with her. Twilight didn’t know how to say no as a wolf. So he just accepted his fate and followed her, silently ignoring other link’s stares.
It was gonna be a long night and Twilight hoped that Wild wouldn’t kill him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The adventure moved on whether they wanted to take a break or not. A few days had passed since the ‘island into a hot desert’ disaster. They had dropped into Time’s Era for a bit and were a half day's trip away from Lon Lon Ranch. Everyone was quite happy to hear that. The mood of the group only dipped when they were jumped by a group of monsters.
A group of monsters with two Wizzrobes from Wild’s time. There wasn’t time to really make a game plan. Hell, there were too many to actually get to the Wizzrobes. The upside was that the monsters were all normal so far. As the monsters thinned out Twilight took a step back to assess the situation. Everyone was handling themselves and it was clear that they wouldn’t have any trouble. But their problems stemmed from the two spell casters in the back.
Unhooking his crossbow and taking out the Hawkeye mask, Twilight went to get cover. This was their best bet to take those guys out unless they wanted to keep plowing through monsters. Taking aim at one, he waits until there is an opening. He learned that these Wizzrobes in particular like to stop moving when they are about to set off an attack. So as soon as it stopped and started chanting, Twilight hit the trigger.
A second too late.
The Wizzrobe in question got off his attack before the arrow shot it through the head, killing it instantly.
The magic from the spell, however, went straight towards Wild.
“Cub!” Twilight tried to warn the other hero who was facing the other way.
It hit the younger hero, triggering a bright white light and puff of smoke instantly.
Twilight didn’t even register that it happened twice on the other side of the battlefield. He was too focused on getting to Wild’s side.
Pinky beat him to Wild, scooping something up in her arms. When he could clearly see the cub, it was a shock to see a small toddler resting in his sister's arms. Twi crouches down next to her. She looked up at him as if he could answer her question. “What do we do?”
Twilight sure as hell didn’t know. He had never seen a Wizzrobe set up this kind of magic before. “Hyrule! We have an issue here!” He called their resident medic. Luckily, Legend took care of the other Wizzrobe who was nearby a knocked out Sky and Warriors.
Goddess, they were lucky that the fight was over now.
Settling down in a camp further away from the battleground, it was time to assess the situation. Wild, who thankfully was fast asleep, was quite obviously turned into a child, while Warriors and Sky seem to just have different behaviors then normal. With their cook down, Twilight stepped up to make pumpkin and fish cream soup.
The game plan now was to get to Lon Lon ASAP. Mostly because they all knew how Wild was as a teenager. He would only be worse as a child.
Or he could have been relatively tame as a kid. Twilight was confused, holding the small hand of Wild’s while said boy also held Pinky’s hand happily. Twilight didn’t actually know what he was expecting. But something as calm as the kid skipping in the middle of them two was not it.
“Will there be horses at the ranch?” The child looked up expectantly at Twilight.
A familiar warmth bubbled up. “More than you can count cub.”
He gasped and then looked up at Pinky. “Can I play with them?”
“Um...” She was trying to think of the right answer to tell him. Horses could be dangerous around a child, however, Malon used to tell them about when she and the old man were younger and how they played with the horse. “You will have to ask first.”
Wild pouted. “Are we almost there?”
“Yes, we are very close actually.” There was something about this whole situation that was happening between the three of them that made Twilight feel...weird…
He had already made peace that he might like Pinky. Hell, it was the first thing he felt when he saw her. He liked her. He thought she was adorable. He liked how her laugh was light and twinkled like a fairies chime.
Yet having a child between them, having to take care of said child between them... it felt more domestic than what he had been used to lately. It got Twilight thinking and he didn’t even know where to start searching for these answers.
“Is that it?” The cub’s voice startled Twilight out of his train of thought as his hand was now free from the child’s grasp. Wild was pointing at the ranch in the distance. “Is it?”
“Mhm!” Pinky was natural with her responses. It made Twi almost jealous, he felt a bit out of touch with the babysitter he was in before his adventure. “Are you excited?”
“Yeah!!”
Ah... Well…
If she were having fun with it. He can’t help but play along.
Apparently, a shrunken hero and two new faces didn’t phase Ms Malon. In fact, when they had approached the entrance of the ranch, Wild had wiggled out of Pinky’s grasp to run up to the older woman, asking if he could play with the horses. Malon, the amazing woman that she was, smiled and showed the child the way to the pen.
The child was in awe seeing the animals roaming around. Twilight took everyone’s stuff off of Epona and brought her into the fence in an area to socialize and rest. “I’ll watch over him.” He gestured to the wild child.
“You can handle it?” Hyrule looked dead on his feet but still was concerned. He has been trying to reverse the spell. “I can help watch him-“
“Oh hell no!” Enno linked their arm with Hyrule, Legend on his other side.
“You’re resting” Legend scolded and the poor boy was dragged off. Twilight would feel bad but Hyrule needed to be taken care of. He looked around for a moment to see where everyone was going. It was as if everything already knew what role they had to play as they took up residence at Lon Lon Ranch. Pinky went inside with Malon to do who knew what.
“I’ll take your stuff in.” Time was already collecting everything before Twilight could refuse. “Keep your eye on him.” He nods his head in the direction behind Twi. Panic shot through and he whipped around to see Wild climbing the fence to get into the pen…
While the door to the pen was still open…
“Cub no!” Twilight practically ran to the child, Time’s soft laughter was ignored. He quickly scooped up the child.
Wild squirmed in Twilight’s grasp “I want to play with them.”
“You can! But don’t climb over the fence.” He lightly scolded, putting him down. “Come let's go through the entrance.” Instead of walking with Twi hand in hand, Wild bolted to the open entrance. “Cub!” He sighs as he followed behind.
It was interesting to teach Wild, of all people, how to be around horses. Twilight always considered him one of the most knowledgeable about them. So when Twi felt comfortable sitting back and watching, it felt nice to watch the kid running around with the pony’s.
“Mine if I join you?” Twilight looked up to see the old man approaching him. Twi looked back at Wild and shook his head. Time sat in the grass next to his successor. “How are you feeling?”
“About what?” Twilight honestly had a lot of feelings about this matter but nothing concrete to point out. “Wild becoming a kid? Or...”
“Or.” Of course the Old man chooses the hard answer to his question.
“Well...” Leaning back, he takes a moment to gather his words, sorting things out and getting the most important to the foreground. “How do you know when to stop?”
“Stop?”
“Adventuring, setting down and just...” He waves one of his hands to everything around them “living.” It felt weird to know that they could have something like this. A peaceful life. A place you feel like you can return to no matter how much you’ve changed. Twilight loves his family back home. Yet every time he went back to visit it felt foreign to him. The village he knew never changed, but he did and the man that exists now couldn’t belong there.
“I never thought about settling down much after my adventure.” Twilight admitted out loud at last. “I just thought that was how my life was supposed to be. Traveling around, helping where I can...”
When Time knew Twilight was done talking he finally spoke up. “It helped having Malon by my side.” He faced the scene in front of them both too. “Having someone there that welcomes you home no matter what, it makes you feel normal despite the trials that prevented you from getting there in the first place.” Old memories of the past were filling the older heroes' minds, reminiscing on the past of what was and what could have been in another timeline. “It was her and her father that welcomed me here and got me to stop traveling so much.”
Twilight hummed in acknowledgement, soaking everything his teacher had told him. His mind wandered to the people back home, the fear of them rejecting him felt almost silly now.
... He wanted to write Uli... Homesickness was starting to eat at Twi.
“I think Malon and Pinky are almost done with lunch by now.” Time slowly got up. “How about we gather the cub and head inside?”
Twilight took a moment before getting up himself. “Yeah.”
They both walk up to the small boy, trying to wrangle him away from the horses. Twilight didn’t think it would be so difficult. And yet it only took the mention of food to get Wild excited to go inside. “Mom!” The kid let go of Twi’s hand as soon as he stepped foot inside of the kitchen where Malon and Pinky were. Instead of running to Malon like Twi expected, Wild was latched onto Pinky’s pants. “Guess what me and dad did!”
Did...he just?
Twilight and Pinky share a look, both equally red faced and embarrassed. “W-What did you and Twi do, Wild?” She bent down to Wild’s height, who was practically bouncing.
“He taught me-” Twilight couldn’t even hear the rest of the kid’s sentences. The thought of Pinky listening to their child excitedly tell them about their day was too much for him. It was something Twilight really wanted in his future. All of this. A home he felt comfortable to come home to. A family he helped built.
A life he can live peacefully.
He had those all before…
So is it possible for him to have it again?
botw/totk link x reader part 1 out of 2 parts!
Masterlist
╔════ ⭒ ‧͙⁺-ˋˏ ༻✿༺ ˎˊ˚⁺‧͙ ⭒ ════╗
This was my first ever made oneshot! So, I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did writing it! Thank you so much for choosing to read this, my loves♡
(I also just had to write something about Link in his Gerudo outfit because damn...he's just way too pretty, like, it's so unfair!)
Please note that I also try to make my oneshots as gender neutral as I can, but this one does contain the word Vai for the reader seeing they're in Gerudo town, I hope that's fine ♡
‧͙⁺-ˋˏThen will I see you again? ˎˊ˚⁺‧͙
3k+ words
The warmth of the desert's breeze seeped into the thin material of my veil, causing it to sway to the melody of the grains of sand that fell from their golden hills that lay scattered across the barren sea. My feet sinking into its scratchy-softness with every step.
Ahead the wavy and heat, melting horizon, the Gerudo Town stood proudly with the sizzling rays of the slow, falling sun basking its sandy-coloured walls in a pale glow that reminds me of the golden, holy lights that shattered throughout Hyrule castle - the glow visible to the eye from all corners of Hyrule...but only for a defeaning screech of the beast that lived within to follow after. The beast that was known as Calamity Ganon.
A shiver slithered down my spin despite the heat that drooled across the sands, allowing me to close my eyes and slightly smile at the remembrance of the bittersweet celebration that was held after the horrors of the apprehensive battle from Hyrule Castle. The festival being at Hateno Village where lanterns of every colour filtered through the sky along with the cheers of the villagers that welcomed the young Princess and her Chosen Champion - "a young man blessed with golden tresses and crystalline eyes that could be seen for miles away and the way the sharp blue of his tunic emphasized their beauty was astounding - even breath taking", the gossipers I met at the inn of the Wetland Stable told me. But I could only playfully tease them for their quite...descriptive choice of words and chuckle at their blushing cheeks as they all denied their feelings for him.
I inwardly sighed in nostalgia at that awkward memory of the gossipers that crowded me after hearing that I came from Hateno, questioning if I had been there to celebrate the victory of the Evil Malice's defeat or seen the Princess and her appointed Knight during the festival or if I had even had the pleasures of meeting his 'gorgeous' eyes with my own - just like the few of them had claim to have met his stare with a 'loving' and 'swooning' gaze of their own. I chuckled at their jealousy that had filled their eyes as they awaited my answer but only for it to slowly melt away after I said that I had, sadly to them, left a few days prior to the festival.
By the time I had reached the Town's entrance, night had began to take over the deep, orangey sky as the sun fell beyond the horizon line. A cool breeze slithering across my sweaty skin while the soft howls of wolves echoed through the sands - goosebumps scattering across my skin at the sudden change of temperature. And with a small nod, I greeted the tall-standing Gerudo guards armed in gold and violet as they stood beside the arched-opening of the Town with their delicately, carved spears in hand - both acknowledging me with a nod of their own.
Ever since the victory against Calamity Ganon, Gerudo Town had finally become what it should've been a long time ago. A Town filled with life and young children running freely through the streets without the worry of the harrowing Divine Beast and its skin-beating sandstorms that scared any who dared to near it with its thundering strikes of lightning. A distant memory that many have now forgotten - especially since after the battle, the Divine Beast could finally rest beneath the comfort of the golden sands once again as its purpose to aid the Princess and her Hero was now fulfilled. A promise that was failed a hundred years ago...
The central palm trees lightly swayed to the melody of the warming laughter and songs that filled the starry sky as the steady flowing water glittered and bathed beneath the silver of the moon. A sense of peace acting like a watery veil draped upon this scenic Town while inwards, the canteen was filled with the smell of roasting meats, vegetables and fruits and sounds of roaring voices as they all huddled together. The twirling flames of the hearth a warm contrast to the coolness of the night, wood crackling beneath its sizzling heat.
I smiled at the scene of the women all in the comfort of the inn - talking and dancing with one another without a care for the world, twirling to the swaying harmony of the violin as they giggled and drank. "Quite the sight isn't it, young vai?", a voice called, causing me to turn towards the bar where an aged Gerudo woman glanced at me with a soft smile spread across her painted lips, her head in her palm as she leaned against the counter. "It really is, though I must say it has been quite some time hasn't it, Aunt Furosa?", I smiled, leaning against the stone of the bar as I pulled a stool out for myself. The cheery music and the voices of those around me proved it difficult to hear one another. "Mhm it has, seeing you haven't been here for a while, I'll make your first drink a free one - just for you. What do you say to some Noble Pursuit? I created it rather recently as well", she asked with a raise of a brow and a cocky smile before leaning back and wiping her hands against the material of her apron. I grinned with a nod, placing my elbow upon the counter, "Why not and thank you, Aunt Furosa. It has been quite some time since I've had any alcohol. I need some change in my life once in a while." She hummed in agreement while turning around to reach one of the glasses from the shelves behind.
"We all do at some point."
I felt myself turning around and pressing my back into the coolness of the counter, my skin itching and prickling from the coldness of the hard stone against me. I sighed in content before leaning back and admiring the crowd that gathered together as they danced, holding each other's hands and chanting words in the Gerudo language in remembrance of the defeat of Calamity Ganon and the freedom they now had knowing that the Divine Beast has finally been put to rest. I couldn't help but smile at the scene, my foot tapping against the metal ring of the stool to the tune of the dancing melody.
"And all done! Let me know how it tastes", Furosa said as she slid the glass towards me, causing me to turn around and smile at her, taking the glass-made stem between my fingers, "Thank you very much and I will definitely." With that, I raised the beautifully, decorated drink towards my lips, allowing the liquid to pass thriugh my lips and into my mouth, my tongue tingling at the sweetness that suddenly rolled over it. Eventually the slight bitterness of the alcohol tickled the tip of my tongue but with the sweetness of the exotic drink it mixed with - it was perfectly balanced.
"This...this is amazing Furosa! Is that Voltfruit and a tinge of Hydromelon? And there's something else there too! Something more...fruity and sweeter! Perhaps Palm Fruit?", I exclaimed, staring at her in disbelief at the unique and catchy tastiness of the drink. She smirked, raising her finger to her lips where her purple polished nail reflected the orange flames of the fire while she shook her head, "A secret. I'm glad you like it, but just so you know- the next one is twenty rupees." She winked before twirling around and cleaning another glass with her dishtowel that was strapped at her apron while I took another sip, closing my eyes and savouring the fruity sweetness before opening them again with a smile before gently swirling the drink around - but only for a voice to haul me from my quiet thoughts, "Young vai, please join us! You're looking rather lonely sitting here." I raised my head only to stare into the brown eyes of a Gerudo woman whose fiery red hair slithered across the deep, beautiful brown skin of her shoulders - a warm smile spilling across her purple, painted lips and onto my own, "I mean sure!"
I smiled while taking a quick sip of my drink, allowing her long, slender fingers to wrap around my own and drag me out of my seat into the circling crowd that cheered and yelled to the words of a song I do not know.
She smiled at me, leading me towards her friends who greeted me with a grin, "Sav'saaba young one! How do you find the celebration?" A taller Gerudo woman asked, her hair pinned into a braided bun dressed with gold while her lips as red as a fresh Voltfruit.
I smiled at her. "It's amazing! Seeing everyone gathered her makes it seem as though the horrors we faced never existed", I said, leaning towards her to allow my voice to reach her ears over the chanting of the crowd, her delicate hand resting against the skin of my shoulder - her thumb lightly tracing my collarbone, causing me to shiver and slightly blush from her feathery touch. She hummed before pulling back with a smile, "Indeed, but the suffering was worth it in the end. We finally won. But the talk of the catastrophe isn't something we should be mulling over about it! My name is Touvute, and may I know what yours is, little vai?" I nodded with chuckle, "Touvute is a lovely name. My name is y/n and it's a pleasure to meet you and your friends."
The Gerudo - who never let go of my hand after leading me here - laughed before stroking a stray piece of my hair away from my face with a grin, "It's an honour to have such a beautiful vai to join us! My name is Esaru and this is Ovota and Tamir." They both smiled at me, raising their drink in acknowledgement as they were sitting upon the soft seats of the couches with one leg over the other in content. "Did you come here for the celebration?", Tamir asked with a smile while my eyes met her own, "Yes and no, I always loved this town since I was a child and coming here now and seeing it so lit up is such a welcoming feeling!" I smiled as Ovota spoke while nodding in agreement, "Agreed. We should hold annual events more often." Esaru grinned while Touvute grabbed my other hand, her thumb brushing backwards and forwards over my knuckles, "Come, let's dance now little Hylian! The real celebration is only beginning!"
My eyes widened in happiness as I laughed, feeling them drag me through the sweaty bodies that surrounded us before standing in the center of the inn and raising their arms while swaying their hips and head to the tune of the lively beat.
I raised my arms above my head and closed my eyes, feeling Touvute's hands slide around my hips while Esaru glided her fingers against the skin of my palm while we danced. Laughs fell from our lips at the sudden change of pace, "How do these changes happen so quickly? The pace just keeps on getting quicker and quicker!" Esaru grabbed onto my fingers, "Like the way life changes- you either hold on or let go, you just have to allow yourself to adjust to the changes! Don't overthink it little one, just do it!"
And with that, we all held each other's hands, twirling one another around before bringing our bodies closer together to where they nearly touched - only to swirl away with a chant and a grin, feeling the loud violin music pulse through our ears. Until the clinging of a fork against glass rang through the crowd in order to grab everyone's attention, even the violinist slowly came to a halt. "This is the third year of our freedom from the Evil Calamity! Next year it shall be held at the Rito Village to mark the fourth! First was the Gorons, then the Zoras and now us! Such a beautiful cycle of life we have created here! All in the name of unity and the Goddess Hylia!", a voice yelled from the crowd, creating a ripple effect as everyone cheered and clapped in response.
Esaru wrapped her arms around my shoulders, holding me close to her chest while Touvute had her hands resting upon my hips, smiles painting our lips while we turned to glance at one another before staring ahead at the woman who stood upon the central table with a glass raised in her hand. Her lucious thick hair tied with rings and emerald jewelry, "May this fine day last forever!" The people within the inn erupted in agreement, the violing starting off with an up beat that carried through the halls. Ovota came towards us with a nod, "A fine day it is indeed. Hopefully we'll be able to keep the flow of the yearly celebrations just as it is. It is quite the pleasing festival." I nodded with a grin, "I hope so too."
Eventually the crowd continued on with their dancing routines, their bodies brushing against our own as sweat dribbled down my forehead, "I think I need to retire a bit for some food soon", I said with a airy laugh, wiping away the liquid that dribbled down my skin with a playful huff, "I forgot how exhausting dancing can be."
Esaru's fingers danced with my own as she twirled me around with a laugh, "I don't blame you! Some meat skewer does sound a little tempting. Maybe you could speak to that young, little Hylian vai there. She hasn't moved from her spot since she arrived." Esaru directed her head towards the crowded bar where I spotted a bloch of blue a bit further from the circle of people.
I watched her twirl the liquid within her glass with the help of a toothpick as she was seated upon the stool, leaning on the palm of her hand with a distant look upon her veil hidden face.
"Maybe she's going through a heartbreak from the looks of it", Touvute voiced while standing behind me and placing her hands upon my hips, the sudden action causing my cheeks to slightly redden, "I'll go talk to her and see if she wants to join us?" Esaru hummed before turning to me with a smile and nod, "New company is always lovely to have, and maybe it'll help soothe her heart." I gave a firm nod in agreement.
With a small smile and a few sorrys here and there, I finally made my way through the crowd towards the patch of blue that stood against the gold and violet - and occasional colourful feathers - and grabbed my drink that stood beside my veil before treading towards her blue-dressed figure, "Evening...do you mind if I sit here?", I asked after taking a quick sip of my Noble Pursuit.
A blink and a shake of her head was the only answer I got, "Mhm, thank you." I smiled at her while pulling out a seat besides her in an awkward silence while I placed my drink upon the counter, "Are you alright?", I asked, gently placing my hand upon her sun-kissed shoulder, feeling the way her muscles tensed beneath my fingertips as she stilled, only to slightly relax before bringing her eyes to stare into my own with a nod and a what appeared to be a small smile from the way her blue eyes somewhat crinkled.
I silently breathed out in relief, removing my hand from her shoulders as her eyes stared into mine, causing my cheeks to slightly turn into a pinkish tint under her tense gaze. "I'm glad...We were a little worried that you were maybe going through a breakup and wanted to see if you wanted some comfort! You know like...girls to girls?", I said, my index finger running along the smooth, curved edge of the glass while glancing down at it before bringing them up to stare into her own again, seeing the way they widen at my statement - a small blush forming on the tips of her pointed ears.
With that she quickly shook her head, bashfully looking away and down at her own glass. I chuckled, shaking my head with a grin before looking at her, "Come dance with me." I extended my hand out, smiling at her as she studied it before staring into my eyes and nervously glanced to the side where everyone was dancing and singing, "I...I don't really know how to dance." Her voice was soft and low, but I smiled, gently taking her hand in my own and intertwining our fingers together - noticing the roughness to her fingertips and palms, "Don't worry, I'll guide you." With that she nodded while scratching the back of her neck in uncertainty, allowing me to catch glimpses of her golden hair that fell beneath her veil and the way her tresses nearly pooled around her shoulders.
"Keep holding onto my hand, you can easily get lost here as it seems to me that Esaru and Touvute have probably gone outside. So, it's just us two for now", I said with a smile while glancing at her from over my shoulder - her ears darkening in a redder shade as she nodded, avoiding my eyes. When her fingers tightened around mine, I twirled around, pulling her body against my own with a grin. Her oceanic eyes widened at the sudden action while my one arm wrapped around her waist and the other reaching for her calloused hand, "Is this fine?" She lightly nodded, her eyes avoiding my own as I felt the hard skin of an aged scar lightly graze against my fingertips when another violin piece began to play.
But only for me to I feel her fingers intertwining with my own and tightening themselves around my grasp, allowing me to lead her across the floor and twirl her around every once in a while - a smile dotting her features as we laughed and tumbled about here and there. And when I pulled her body into mine, I leaned over to whisper, "Seeing you smile is better than eating the food I was meant to get. I'm happy that you're happy." I could hear her breath hitch in her throat while my blush could only deepen. Slowly, she pulled back to stare into my eyes - searching for something I wish I knew the answer to. The intensity of her stare caused my eyes to briefly flicker towards the veil that covered her lips...hoping for a way a to see them and feel them against my own.
I don't quite understand this feeling...this intensity like a sizzling magnetic drawn to another. The way I felt the tingles of her touches as her fingers grazed my cheek - holding onto me before gliding her thumb across the skin of my bottom lip while raising her eyes to meet my own. My grip around her waist tightened, pulling her hips into my own while my fingers grazed down the seen skin of her cheek and down the blue veil that covered her face, hoping for a way to paint an image of how she looked beneath the thin cloth within my mind.
I brought my eyes to shyly stare into her own, "I've never felt this way towards a girl before...I want to kiss you. And I know it's very sudden-" Quickly, she stood back, shaking her head as regret began to fill her crystalline irises, "...I'm sorry. I have to go." And with that, she turned around but before she could leave my sight, I held onto her wrist, "Please...what's your name?" Her eyes darted from the floor back to my own and then to the people around us before shaking her head and bring her eyes back to me - the way her pulse intensified beneath my fingers caused a tingle to my skin, "then-then will I see you again?" She softly smiled at me with a nod, "Maybe." "I stay at Hateno Village!", I called out in hopes for her to have heard me. But with that..she was gone and I was standing here alone - my thoughts swirling through my mind at a speed I cannot control. My heart twisted and my throat tightened but before I could do anything, I walked towards the bar and sat down - wrapping my arms around myself.
"I don't even know her name..."
Since ToTK is out now and the idea I had for finding the masks is now irrelevant, I decided to share the basic idea of what kind of backstory I had come up with for how Wild got the FD Mask, cause I really liked what I had come up with but couldn't figure out the best way to implement it or the precise order of things happening.
In chronological order of appearance:
Link wakes up, gets told, "Hey, Link, you are this very specific character and your sole purpose is to go save Zelda"
Link doesn't really like this, but hey, what can you do?
Does the basic line of plateau to Dueling Peaks Stable to Impa to Purah to Impa, gets told to go follow the memories, finds the one with the DP in the background and the rock and is really disappointed in how it seems the princess, supposedly the most kind soul in Hyrule, basically directly insults Link's worth.
Thinks "Wow, that's what she thought of me? I must have been an asshole. Damn." and decides that if that's who he used to be, he didn't want to remember his past and risk becoming that again.
Awkward blank period I hadn't figured out leading into the Gerudo quest, where Link gets the Vai outfit and realizes, "Hey, everyone treats me like a different person now! This is pretty nice!" and begins questioning Gender among other things (now referred to as they).
Link goes into Gerudo town, does stuff, and eventually visits the old woman next to the goddess statue who points out the fact that Link is a voe. From Link's negative reaction, she feels slightly bad and decides to chat with them for a bit. This leads to her telling them about a stash of ancient masks that her family had been in charge of guarding for a while, but that her grand-(aunt? something) had lost the map with just a riddle left. Her reasoning for wanting it was that one of the masks would make the wearer seem like a Gerudo, and that espionage would be easy with it. She asks like to find the cache or the rotted/destroyed remains of the cache, and return the Gerudo mask to her.
The riddle was smart sounding and I liked it, but also could have been better as it just meant "shoot an ice arrow through that big skeleton's eye and the cache will show up," so Link thanks the woman and marks it down on the slate as a quest.
After some amount of time, Link goes to the skeleton and does the action, revealing a large crate with a fancy seal for a lock on it, used to hold the magic that made it rise, removes said seal, and opens the crate. Inside is a whole bunch of masks which bear resemblance to the masks from OoT and MM. I didn't get around to fully planing out this part, but this was the sort of vibe I was going for.
Link casually loots it all and puts the masks in the Sheikah Slate, for delivery to the old woman.
They return to Gerudo town and hand over the Gerudo mask to the old woman, who thanks them, and denies the returning of the rest of the masks as they would probably get more use of them than she would. She casually drops the existence of stage plays, which is the first Link has heard of them, and then explains they're where actors pretend to be different people to perform. This catches links attention.
Link eventually starts experimenting with this idea, wearing different masks or outfits and acting like completely different people, and because he is partially rejecting the idea of their only goal being to stop the BBEG and save Hyrule, they are usually more vocal, with exceptions (this doesn't mean they totally ignore their duty, and eventually leads to them beating Clammy Gan).
Eventually, Link visits the Deku tree and hears his (t)request. However, he notices something when Link later climbs up and talks to him from the StumpStool. This basically conveys the idea that the longer magic tools rest in place, the stronger they become.
This is how much I had thought out, and while I might finish this idea, due to the fact that there is now a Misiko quest that has you finding the pieces around Hyrule, I think I will have to revamp the story in order to fit ToTK better and to boost my interest again.
I dont know how much of the original plan will still be implemented, but I think there is enough stuff that I can carry over the ideas from into the new version. And so I will do this!
Eventually. . .
A King is Nothing Without His People
Chapter 7
CW:  Intrusive thoughts, breakdowns
<- Previous Archive Next ->
Link had woken up at five am as he always did and changed out of his Gerudo Vai outfit, being careful that Riju wasn't awake to catch him getting changed. He folded the garb up and put them in his slate for later use, dressing in his Snowquill Tunic and Trousers. He'd put the ruby circlet on when he got cold, but he left it in his slate for now. He kissed Riju's forehead and scooped Fostri up, the Korok not waking at the disturbance. The champions aren't around… I wonder if they're sleeping, he thought as he held the slate in his hand and opened it to the map screen. He maximized the screen and scrolled until he saw Rito village, tapping on the Akh Va'quot shrine when he minimized the screen.
He closed his eyes as the blinding blue of Sheikah technology covered him, opening them again when the biting cold of Rito Village met his skin. Behind him, he could faintly hear Kass playing on his concertina, playing a tune he'd normally play when he had nothing else to play. Fostri stirred and turned his head to look up at Link before moving to look around them. "Where're we?" He asked and slowly floated up to rest on Link’s shoulder.
"We're at Rito Village. I'm waiting for the others to wake up before doing anything," he quietly explained and turned around to watch Kass play. The bard was facing the setting moon, playing a melancholic tune. "Want to meet one of my best friends?" He asked the Korok, leaning against the railing of the landing. The wind was calm but there was still a chill in the air, enough to make Link think about putting on the circlet. Though the rising sun would be enough to warm him in a few hours, he just had to wait a while.
Fostri nodded and draped himself over Link’s shoulder, content to be drug around while he dozed off. Link smiled and stayed where he was for a few moments before pushing himself to stand, making his way to where the bard continued playing. Kass must've heard Link as he turned around, the music filling the air coming to a halt. "Link! It's so good to… see you?" Kass almost questioned, faltering when he turned to look at Link completely. Link tilted his head slightly, wondering why the Rito was confused.
Revali appeared behind Kass, almost startling Link enough for him to jump. "You know us Rito can see forest children right? It's not uncommon for us to be born with that ability, though usually fledglings are the ones who can see them as the ability fades with age." Revali explained, lazily looking around the area.
Link perked up and grabbed the Korok off his shoulder, holding him up for Kass to see. Said Korok gave a chime of discomfort, being abruptly woken and dangled like a toy. "You can see him?" He asked with childish glee, glancing at the Korok to make sure he wasn't accidentally hurting it. Maybe later if I can get Kass to watch over him I can visit Teba for an hour or two.
"Ah, I wasn't sure if you were aware he was there. Yes, I can see the forest child." Kass answered, setting his concertina on his belt as he didn't need it now. He hesitantly held two feathered hands out to hold the Korok, letting the leafy body rest on his feathers. Fostri protested at the movement, letting little chimes out as he fought to get comfortable again.
Link smiled at the sight, itching to grab his slate and snap a picture of the two. "We met a few days ago, he wanted to come along with me on my adventures so I allowed him to!" Link excitedly explained, though the excitement died down when he looked back at Revali and remembered why they were there. "I have to go talk with Kaneli, but I'll come back when we're done! He should be awake by the time we're done talking so you two can have a proper introduction," Link explained and walked towards the Rito, intending to get a hug from the bard before walking off to his inevitable doom. That, and it was starting to get a little too cold for his liking. Kass happily indulged him, carefully moving the Korok to one feathered hand and wrapping the other around Link.
The two stayed like that until the telltale clack of multiple talons hitting wood was heard. "I take it that's my cue to leave. It was nice seeing you Kass," Link said gratefully and bumped his head against Kass’s chest. He gently grabbed Fostri from Kass and cradled the Korok to his chest, waving to the fledglings who were now moving onto the platform.
"We haven't been here in a while, I hope that seagull’s taken care of my flight range while we were gone," Revali said as he materialized next to Link, making the Hylian jump in surprise.
"Stop doing that. Hylia, you guys pick the worst time to come out." He huffed in annoyance before continuing, "where are the others? Are they in my soul?" He asked as he began making his way up the steps of Rito village. Saki passed him and gave him an excited wave, getting one in return. She always made time for him, whether it was a simple wave and smile or a short conversation.
"Urbosa is still resting but Mipha and Daruk are somewhere within the village. I think they said they were heading up to Vah Medoh." The Rito explained as he lazily looked around. "They're probably looking over it now, so we can get right to work when you're done."
Link nodded and put Fostri on his shoulder again as they came upon more Rito walking around. The Korok, more awake than he was moments ago, held itself on his shoulder.. "Hopefully this won't take long, Kaneli seems docile enough to not put up much of a fight." Link muttered to the Rito, waving hello to Harth as he passed the Rito's roost. Harth barely gave a wave back as he was busy fixing a bow. I'll have to talk to him about getting more bowstrings, a few bows I have need restringing.
Link stopped walking when he didn't hear the sound of talons hitting wood following after him, pausing before he began climbing the last staircase. "Revali?" He called out as he looked behind him, noticing the Rito was looking at the landing next to them with a melancholic look.
What is he- oh. Link thought as he noticed which landing was next to them. Revali's Landing. "You know, I wasn't liked much among my nestmates. I was born too young to play with those in my year and too old to play with the ones under. Who'd think, a hundred years later and dead, I'd finally get the approval I've always wanted." He said bitterly, glaring at the landing with hatred only a dead man could harbor.
Link frowned and got off the steps. "If it makes you feel better, back when you were alive I admired your skills." Link said and moved closer to the Rito Champion, looking over the landing with him. "I know I didn't show it- or at least I don't think I did. But I was envious of your skills. I spent a week trying to master the bow but no matter what, I couldn't." Link said without thinking. Huh, he doesn't remember getting that memory.
Revali looked down at the Hylian in shock. "You… you did? I thought you were a stuck-up brat who only cared about himself and the Princess."
"Well, when the weight of a whole kingdom rests on your shoulders, you quickly learn to be quiet and endure the envy or give in and have your reputation ruined." He joked, but he wasn't sure where these feelings of hatred were coming from. He never hated his circumstances before. "Let's- let's go... see Kaneli," he uttered and almost stumbled as he turned around. But it was too late. The memory was already flashing in front of him.
He was with Revali in a forest clearing. Princess Zelda, Princess Mipha, Chieftess Urbosa, and Chief Daruk were faintly seen in the background, talking with each other and setting up camp. The Rito Champion was with Link and was boasting about his bow skills. "I'll have you know, I can shoot five arrows in one shot. And I won't miss a single target." He bragged, pulling out his famed Eagle Bow and praising the craftsmanship. I wish I could shoot as well as him… If only I had more free time to practice my shooting. Link thought as he watched the Rito. Revali has been at this for almost an hour, seeming to taunt the silent knight. Finally, Link had enough. He stood up abruptly and grabbed his own bow, a simple knight's bow he requested some months ago.
He made sure Revali was watching as he pointed to a few trees in the distance and readied his bow. He took out five arrows from his quiver and, after a steadying breath, shot each arrow in quick succession. Each arrow hit its intended target, sending the Rito Champion into a fit of disbelief.
Link let out a sharp breath as the memory passed over him. "...nk? ink? Link!?" Revali panicked, waving a feathered hand over Links’ face. Said Hylian hummed in response, leaning heavily on the fence. Weird… usually his memories didn't come with thoughts. "Honestly, are you even listening to me? Hello?" Revali snapped, covering his growing panic with snark.
"...hm? …Yeah… yeah I'm listening. I hear you, stop yelling," Link mumbled out and half-heartedly swatted at the Rito, glad Harth was too busy not watching him. "Just a memory, everything's fine." He said and straightened himself, almost sending Fostri tumbling off his shoulder. Luckily the Korok was able to keep its grip, just barely managing to catch itself on Links’ shoulder. Right as I'm about to go have an important talk, I get a memory, he thought bitterly and began climbing the stairway again. "I'll explain later," he added when he could tell the Rito was going to ask a question.
Revali huffed and began walking again, walking next to Link. "Fine, but don't think I'll forget." He threatened but was quick to quiet down when Kaneli's roost was in view. Link took a deep breath and walked into the roost.
Kaneli smiled warmly when Link entered the roost, pausing from rocking in his chair to greet the Champion. "Ah, champion descendant! How nice to see you again! I take it you've come to check on Medoh? The beast fired a laser a few days ago and hasn't done much since then, I think it's finally powered down!"
Link almost flinched at the amount of joy he could hear in the Rito's voice. Right… the Rito were grounded while Medoh was in the air. They wouldn't take too kindly to it flying again. "Kaneli, I have important news to tell you-"
"Why of course Champion descendant! What is it? Were you the reason Vah Medoh has turned off?"
"Well yes but-"
"Oh, how wonderful! We should hold a celebration! I'm guessing along with Vah Medoh turning off, you also defeated Calamity Ganon?"
"Yes to that too but Kaneli-"
"Wonderful! Oh, how absolutely wonderful! We most definitely have to host a celebration in your honor now! Oh, how wonderful this is!"
"Kaneli I have something really important to tell you-"
"Yes Champion descendant? Do you have any food allergies? We should get planning right away! Harth! Har-"
"I am King of Hyrule!" Link finally yelled, tired of being interrupted. He froze as he realized how loud he yelled out. Crap, I hope no one heard that. He hoped fervently before continuing to speak. "I apologize for that. As I was saying-"
"Yes yes, I heard you the first time. Congratulations. Now, do you have any food allergies? We will throw a celebration in honor of defeating the Calamity tomorrow!" Kaneli cheered, before shooing Link out of the roost. "Oh, and tell Harth to get in here!"
"I-I'll be back in a month with important information," he managed to get out before the elder shooed him down the stairs. Link glared at the shaking Rito Champion, daring him to say something. Daring him to laugh. "Not. A. Word." He quietly hissed as he began walking to Harth’s roost. He froze as he came upon five Rito staring at him as soon as he made it down the first staircase.
"So your highness, what can we help you with?" Saki teased, a sickly sweet and yet sadistic look on her face.
"Saki, don't." He whined and hid his face as he felt a blush covering his skin. His ears pressed into his skull without his permission, trying to hide them from the embarrassment he felt. "Harth, Kaneli said he wanted to see you," he mumbled out as the villagers laughed at him.
Harth nodded and stood up, placing the bow he was working on on the ground. "Anything else you require your highness?" He teased as he passed Link, bowing ever so slightly.
Link groaned and grabbed his slate, quickly pressing on the Vah Medoh teleporter. "I hate you, I hate you guys so much." He ranted as he disappeared into strings of blue, appearing outside Vah Medoh. Revali was cackling beside him, laughing too hard to even complain about the sudden teleportation. The embarrassment he felt kept him hot enough that even the frigid temperature near Vah Medoh wasn’t enough to cool him down.
Mipha and Daruk jumped as they heard the laughter, turning around to see what the noise was about. "What's so funny?" Daruk asked in confusion, taking the three in. Link was sure his face was still burned red with embarrassment while Revali was laughing so hard he was curling in on himself.
"Not. A. Word." Link threatened, which seemed to make the Rito laugh harder. He huffed as he waited for Revali to calm down, moving instead to check on Fostri. The Korok had fully woken up sometime during his conversation with Kaneli and had kept quiet. Unlike the Rito, he wasn't laughing.
"Well! You see!" Revali cackled, taking deep breaths to calm himself. "The old hoot wasn't giving him the chance to talk so Link here went and screamed to the world that he was King of Hyrule! And that's not the best part- the best part was five other Rito heard him and started calling him highness! Oh, that was amazing, truly amazing!" Revali gasped out, his laughter finally dying down.
Mipha and Daruk let out short laughs themselves, finding joy in teasing their youngest. "Alright, alright. Let's laugh at Link, I get it. Can we get on the stupid bird yet?" He huffed and moved closer to Vah Medoh. "Can you guys please not tell Urbosa about this?"
"Tell Urbosa about what? Tell Urbosa how you screamed to the world that you were King of Hyrule?" Link stiffened as a voice he dreaded hearing spoke from behind him, slowly turning around to face the person. There, standing behind him, was Lady Urbosa, Chieftess and Champion of the Gerudo. The rising sunlight illuminated her golden-red hair along with the deep brown of her sun-kissed skin. Her sky blue skirt danced in the wind, following a melody only the breeze could hear. And her face… her face was plagued with the ugly smirk of a smug bastard.
Link hissed and marched over to Vah Medoh, getting in position to activate Revali's gale. "Shut up and get me in this stupid bird," he grumbled out. Much like Vah Naboris, Vah Medoh was drooping over and deactivated. Its wings were almost folded into its chest and its head was hanging so low it almost looked like it would fall off.
Revali took a few moments to calm down before he threw his wings open to create a gale. Much like last time, this gale sent him much higher than he needed to go. He was sent flying over the top of Vah Medoh, affectionately called Med sometimes, where he could see the green backside of the beast. Remembering the beast's back entrance, Link steered the paraglider so he could land near the control unit. Much like Naboris' unit, Medohs was no longer alight. Link looked back to the Zora and Goron champions, raising an eyebrow at them when they continued to let out an occasional laugh. "Alright, what needs to be fixed up?"
And so, the six of them then went to work on repairing Medoh, the occasional laugh ringing out from within the beast. Around nine-thirty pm, there was a soft flapping of wings and the sound of something landing on Vah Medoh. Link looked to Revali, who headed up to check who it was. It only took the Rito a minute to come back, a confused look on his face. "It's the bard," he said when he came back to where Link was. Said Hylian was currently in one of the rooms in Medoh's wings, trying to fix the broken window. He nodded and made his way up to Medoh's back, wondering what Kass could possibly want.
"I swear to Hylia if this is about earlier," he grumbled as he climbed up the beast’s walls. It was difficult to get anywhere, multiple times Link had to rely on Revali's gale to lift him to the beast’s back so he could get somewhere. That's how Link found himself almost thirty feet in the air, looking down at the blue Rito bard. "I'll be down in a second!" He called as he closed his paraglider, falling a few feet before opening the contraption again. "Hey, Kass! Did you need something?" He asked once he finally touched the back of Vah Medoh, putting the glider back in his slate once his feet were on the gorund.
Kass smiled at Link and enveloped the Hylian in a hug, his feathered wings providing a warmth Link hadn’t known he needed. Link hugged back, though he wondered what prompted the hug. Kass must've seen the confusion in Link’s face, explaining, "after you disappeared, everyone was worried that they had taken the joke too far. They've been looking for you all day." He loosened the hug, allowing Link to step back when he wanted to.
Link looked up at the bard and hugged him tighter for a moment, before stepping away. "I've been here with Medoh the whole day. Me and the- the forest child have been repairing it. It's probably repaired enough that it can be turned on today," Link thought aloud as he mentally went over the various repairs he'd done. Medoh was much less damaged than Naboris was, though the outside had more wear than the inside did. "I'm sure if I fixed up the control unit a bit more, I could have Med running again."
Kass gave Link a concerned look. "Are… are you sure that's wise? Vah Medoh could still be under Ganon's control. Wouldn't it be better to have the Princess or someone more familiar with the beast look over it?" He questioned, looking down at Medoh with uncertainty. While the Rito trusted Link, he wasn't sure it was a good idea to reawaken the beast, especially after what it had done to the Rito while it was running.
Stiffening, Link turned away from Kass. "Right, I forgot. Kaneli didn't give me time to explain, so you didn’t hear." He started bitterly, preparing himself to explain what happened. This was Kass, the most reasonable person he knew! Kass would never judge him for protecting Hyrule...would he?
"After I defeated Calamity Ganon I was able to rescue the Princess’s body. Only her body. She was able to help me one last time in defeating Ganon but was already dead by the time I was able to defeat it. Meaning, the Princess is no longer alive. I learned from Lady Impa of the Sheikah that the Princess had plans for me to be king if she ever died. Kind of morbid to think about. She knew she would die so she made plans for Hyrule to be taken care of." He tried to keep his tone level as he explained, eyes firmly planted on the land he was responsible for. If his voice wobbled a few times as he spoke, no one mentioned it.
The land he would gladly die for again. He could barely see anything in the darkness of the night as well as being so high up, but he could see Hyrule Castle. The once-menacing building now held a certain air around it. With the Calamity no longer surrounding it, Link could see the building's age, could see the scars this whole mess had left on it. The green fields were barely seen over the harsh cliffs and mountains, covering the softness of the land he's grown to love.
"So no, we can't wait for the Princess to look over the beast, but I can get someone to come out and look over them in a few weeks. Someone who knows the beasts better than I do. For now, I'm only fixing them enough to check to see if the beast can still be turned on, but I'll do that tomorrow seeing how late it is."
Silence followed the explanation. Kass must've understood he hit a nerve as he didn't say anything, instead unbuckling his concertina and playing a familiar melody. The melody of his teacher's last song. Kass hummed along with the melody, wrapping Link in a blanket of comfort he so desperately needed.
No! I can't cry! I've already cried enough, I can't cry anymore, it's not kingly behavior.
"Kass?" Link quietly asked a few minutes later, sitting down and leaning against the bard's legs.
"Yes, Link?" He asked, looking down at the Hylian he's grown to think of as his fledgling.
"Can… Can I talk to you? About that day? You don’t have to listen to me, I should probably talk with Impa about this but I don’t think she’d understand. Not that I think you’ll understand any better but-”
He was cut off when Kass sat down next to him, letting the Hylian lean against his shoulder instead. “It’s okay Link, I’ll listen to whatever you want to tell me. You can tell me everything or you can tell me nothing. I will be here for you.” Kass said, placing his concertina on his lap and wrapping a feathered arm around his shoulders. Link leaned into Kass, closing his eyes as he took in the scent of feathers and wind.
“I loved her, Kass. I loved her and she loved me. And I couldn’t save her. The one person I loved, and I couldn’t save her. If I can’t save the one person I love, how can I save the whole kingdom I love? I already failed this kingdom once, what if I fail everyone again? I don’t know what to do Kass, why did she choose me?" Link cried out, squeezing his eyes shut as the tears began making pathways down his cheeks. He tried so hard not to cry and here he was, crying like a baby in front of one of his best friends.
Kass didn't answer him, only wrapping his wing tighter around the Hero. "I think you'll make an excellent king, Link. I'm sure the Princess left this all to you because she trusted you to make the right decisions for this kingdom. You won't fail this kingdom again because everyone here loves you. If you need help, I'm sure anyone would be willing to help you; be it construction, planning, repopulating, agriculture, or simply offering a warm bed for the night. You're not alone on this Link. You have a whole kingdom behind you, a whole kingdom willing to help you with anything you need."
Kass moved back slightly, making Link look up at him. A few tears escaped as his eyes were no longer holding them back. "You're not alone, Link. You'll never be alone again." He firmly stated, waiting until Link stopped crying to pull him into another hug.
While the two hugged and cried, the four Champions sat a distance away, giving the two privacy. "Would you look at that, it seems like I don't need to waste an arrow on making him cry out his emotions."
"Revali, shut up, please."
"Let him be Red, I'm sure Blue Jay’s trying to keep his own tears at bay."
"I am NOT about to cry! If anything, I'm about to laugh at his weakness!"
"But weren't you the one who always got concerned when he got a new memory?"
"The big guy’s got a point, you were the last one to stop being concerned over him whenever he got a memory."
"S-Shut up! I was only- huh?" Revali stopped himself, looking over at Kass and Link when he noticed something odd. Kass was handing Link what looked like a necklace made of rope. There were three thick coils of rope tied into the main coil, each delicately braided, though the braided rope was hidden behind beautiful feathers colored the shades of sunset yellow. The necklace- no. Revali knew what that was.
Kass held out the hair ornament, holding it up for Link to see. "I'd like to tell you a story, Link. Back when the Rito were coming to terms with the rest of Hyrule, there was a Hylian. Some stories say his name was Coron, some say his name was Dampé and some say his name was Frejor.”
"In the tales where he's named Coron, he was a Hylian born with the love of flight. He'd spend days with the Rito, watching them fly and soar through the clouds. One day a monster, one we could compare to a Lynel, appeared too close to Rito village. Coron risked his life defending the village and successfully defeated the monster. Goddess Nayru looked down at Coron and gifted him the power of flight with a single feather colored after his Rito soul. While wearing the feather, Coron could turn into a Rito like he desperately desired. So the first story goes at least.”
"In the tales where he's named Dampé, he was much the same as Coron. Born with the love of flight and risking his life to defend the village he loved. But instead of succession without fail, he fell along with the monster. Goddess Farore looked down at the valiant hero and forged his soul into the shape of a feather where it would be reborn into the body of a Rito.”
"Finally, In the tales where he's named Frejor, he was a Hylian who hated the Rito. He would go out of his way to sneer at them and insult them. Goddess Din became insulted for her sister's creations so she cursed him with becoming the very thing he hated. Only when he removed the single cursed feather would he become Hylian again, but the cursed feather was tiny and difficult to locate. He plucked himself free of every feather but could not find the cursed one. Only when he spent years with his Rito body did he realize where the feather could be hidden, but by then he came to appreciate the race he had been cursed as."
As Kass explained the stories, he gently placed the hair ornament on Link’s head. He splayed the golden feathers of the ornament far enough apart that they could be mistaken for hair. "Kass- that's a great story but what's the reason for this gift?" Link asked, sitting still as the Rito prettied him up.
Pleased with how his work looked, Kass sat next to Link again. "Ever since then, whichever story you choose to believe, it has become a sacred honor for a Rito to bestow a feather ornament onto a Hylian. If a Rito gifts a Hylian a feather ornament in the colors of their Rito soul, which means that that Rito thinks of that Hylian not as a Hylian, but as an honorary Rito."
Link looked at Kass, tears gathering in his eyes again. "Kass, you don't mean that. You don't want me to be a part of your race, tell me you're joking." He almost pleaded, wishing this was a dream. He loved the Rito, he was incredibly honored to be considered one of them, but he wouldn't let them take him in, not when he was such a failure. He couldn't let them take in a failure that would only bring problems. "You can't possibly want me to be a part of your flock, I'm a failure to Hyru-!"
He was cut off when warm, inviting feathers wrapped around him, once again enveloping him in a hug. Kass is good at giving hugs."Welcome to the flock, Link. You'll always have a home here in Rito village."
The two stayed like that for a few more minutes, long enough for Link’s stomach to growl. He apologized, embarrassed that his forgotten lunch break caused a disturbance to a peaceful moment.
"Not to worry, Amali and Saki prepared dinner for you. It's in the kitchen. Saki also wanted to give you something." Kass explained, releasing Link from his hug of death. Link nodded, stepping back from the Rito.
"Thank you, Kass, I'll make sure to go see them. It was nice seeing you again," he smiled at the bard. He was truly blessed to know such wonderful people.
Giving the Hylian a once over, Kass nodded before turning around, wings spread as he prepared to take off. "It was nice seeing you again, Link. I'll see you tomorrow." The Rito gave one last smile before tipping off the side of Vah Medoh. Link hurried over to the side and watched as Kass glided down to Rito village, lazily spiraling to wherever he planned to land.
"Excuse me, but is no one going to talk about what we just saw?" He heard a startlingly bold voice ask from behind him
Link jumped and turned around, all four Champions were staring at him. "What do you mean?" He asked, moving away from the edge of Vah Medoh.
He was given flat glances, even Mipha gave him a look that seemed to say, 'you can't be that dense.' "Kass gave you a sacred treasure and you don't want it?!" Revali exploded, his feathers puffed up in irritation. "This sacred tradition that hasn't been performed in almost two hundred years and you! You're so selfish to not accept it?!"
"Now now boys, let's calm down and talk things through," Urbosa warned and gave the two stern glances.
"No Urbosa! I'm tired of him breaking our traditions and cultures! First, he broke the Gerudo law, then he wore Mipha's proposal without giving an answer, then he cheated at the Goron race, and now he's refusing a sacred gift?!" The Rito fumed, turning his wrath to Urbosa before switching back to his original prey.
"I was willing to put up with it when the others didn't mind but I won't stand for you to go and do what you want with my traditions! Why don't you want to be accepted into this flock?! Can't you see they love you?!" Revali screamed, his feathers puffed up so much he almost looked threatening. His face was now pointed downward, hiding the vulnerable look on his face. His flock never cared for him the same as this flock cared for Link and here he was, throwing away the opportunity to have a family because he was selfish and could only think of himself!
"I don't want to stain their flock with my failure. I already failed Hyrule and everyone in it, I don't want these guys to unknowingly take in a failure." He tried explaining again. Why could no one understand him? He couldn't let these innocent Rito take in the person who doomed Hyrule!
"They don't care about that, you idiot! You told that bard all of this and he still welcomed you in! The children look up to you! Saki and Amali give you food and clothes every time you visit! Harth always helps you take care of your bows! Bedoli and Larissa always sing their family song whenever you ask them to! Teba stayed around a few minutes after you boarded Medoh to make sure you were okay! They know you failed Hyrule and they still want you to join them! Stop thinking about yourself, for one goddess damned second, and think about the others around you. For once, push yourself to the back of your mind and push this village to the front of it!" A cracked voice marked the end of the sentence, flickering flames surrounding the angered spirit.
Right, he was only a spirit, destined to watch the world rot away into nothing with his only connection to the living being one Hylian. One selfish Hylian. "If you don't want to accept the gift because of yourself then fine, but accept it for the village. Accept it for the flock that wants you," Revali whispered before disappearing. Links soul felt a little heavier, a little more full of guilt than usual.
Mipha frowned and floated over to Link, a cold, ghostly hand resting just above his shoulder. "Don't worry, give him some time to calm down. Though it would do both of you good to apologize to each other when he comes out." She advised, her soft voice holding a stern tone to it. She glanced over her shoulder, sending a look over to the two champions behind her.
"I'll go get the forest child, we'll be back in a few minutes," Daruk stated, disappearing in a flash of teal flames.
A gentle shake of red caught his attention, making him turn to look at the Gerudo Chieftess. "While he was in the wrong for blowing up, he was correct on one aspect. You've broken many of our traditions and laws, though we have been able to overlook them as they weren't major or harming anyone. You should be more careful about each race's culture, things like this could start wars."
The three stood in tense silence as they waited for Daruk and Fostri to return. Link held a hand up to his hair and ran a gentle finger over the braided ropes, his hand tensing when it drifted to the three feathers that lay in one of the coils. Was he selfish? Would they really accept him?
He was startled out of his thoughts when an unexpected weight rested on his shoulder. He looked over and saw Fostri holding the Sheikah Slate, staring at Link’s hair. Daruk most likely told him of what happened as the Korok didn't say anything about the feathers. Link stretched his arms above his head, satisfying cracks sounding from most of his cramped limbs. He took the slate from Fostri and grabbed his paraglider before sticking it back on his hip. "Hold on tight, I'm going to jump off." He warned his Korok companion as he untied and retied the fabric of the glider. He wasn't sure if it would survive the fall. Maybe if he opened it at the last second?
Taking a quick glance at the remaining Champions, he got a running start before jumping off Vah Medoh. He let the air rip around him, his hair and clothes having a violent dance with the wind. As the ground came closer and closer, Link briefly imagined what it would feel like to die, permanently. He harshly shook those thoughts away, he could think them later when he wasn't about to become a pancake without a pan or cake. Besides, Mipha’s Grace was charged up, she wouldn’t let him die. Throwing open his paraglider, he slowly descended the last few feet he needed. Revali's Landing stood underneath him, the wood creaking under the newly added weight.
The paraglider in his hands broke as soon as he was safely on the ground. One of the support beams was snapped cleanly in half, the cloth almost falling off the opposite support beam. Link stared in shock at the now broken paraglider, the first gift he was ever given. He hesitantly ripped the cloth off the support beams and put it in his slate, wondering if the beams could be fixed, or at least repurposed. He ended up putting them in his slate too in case they had a use, something more than firewood. The cloth, he figured, could be used as a bandana or pillow cover.
The champions were quiet as he walked down the stairs to the communal kitchen, most Rito were asleep in their roosts. When he walked into the kitchen he was met with two very sleepy Rito and a warm smell in the air. "Hi Saki, hi Amali." He quietly greeted, hyper-aware of the five sleeping fledglings next to him. The two Rito chirped soft replies, the greener of the two sat up slightly and smiled at him.
"Eat dinner, we kept it warm for you. We knew you'd be back late," Amali motioned a wing to the crackling fire underneath the cookpot. The cookpot held what looked to be three servings of creamy seafood soup. The exact amount I usually eat, he thought as he got a bowl, ladle, and spoon off the cutlery shelf.
He had begun serving himself when he paused and looked up. "Are you two going to eat too?" He asked when he realized they may have made enough for all three of them to eat. Maybe Revali was right and I am selfish. I should stop thinking that everything is about me-
Amali shook her head, hiding a yawn behind a feathered hand. "We already ate, that's for you. You usually eat three servings so we made enough for you," she explained as she cuddled up to Saki, prepared to doze off again. Link was more than happy to leave the two to sleep, intending to wake them up when he was done.
Rito prefer to cuddle with strangers than sleep alone. Most Rito couples will share a hammock and siblings will sleep together when they outgrow their fledgling hammock. He recited, unaware of when he learned this information, but glad to have it. He was quick to finish his dinner, setting the dirty dishes in his slate and taking them out again. Setting the now clean dishes back on the shelf, he debated whether he should wake the two or not. Link decided not to wake them up, figuring they would rather be well-rested.
Link did, however, nudge Amali awake to tell her where he would be. It took a few gentle nudges before the Rito was aware of what was happening. "Amali, I'm going to go spend the night at the inn," he whispered so as to not wake the sleeping Rito next to her.
It was so fast that Link almost didn't believe what happened. One second he was kneeling in front of Amali and the next he was wrapped in an armful of feathers, his body half laying on Saki and half on Amali. "Why waste money when you could sleep with us. After all, Rito aren't shy about sleeping with each other." She said as she got comfortable, wrapping one arm around Links back and resting the other over his legs. Saki automatically readjusted herself too, resting both her wings on the legs that sat on her lap.
"Wait Amali, it's fine I can spend the night at the inn. You don't have to do this," he struggled to get up. The wings did a good job at pinning him down.
Amali ignored him in favor of running her beak over Link’s hair, careful of his new hair accessory. "Good night, Link," she chirped before laying her head over Links.
Said Hylian froze, wondering if what happened was real. He looked down at Fostri who managed to sneak his way into Link’s lap, curling up to sleep. Effectively trapped, Link had no choice but to fall asleep with the two Rito.
---
When he woke up, he was still trapped underneath surprisingly heavy wings. He shifted and looked around at his surroundings, blinking when he noticed Teba, Kass, and Harth were also in the building. The three Rito were quietly chatting with each other, Teba or Kass occasionally glancing back at the three of them. Link remained leaning against Amali, too comfortable to bother getting up. He glanced down when he felt something move, noticing Fostri was beginning to wake up. He rested his hand against Fostri, feeling the Korok grab his finger as he woke up more.
"And after I sang him the song, he disappeared for a few minutes before coming out of the forest riding a buck as big as him," Kass said, eliciting quiet laughs from not only Teba and Harth, but also Saki and Amali who had woken up without Link realizing.
"Back when he went up to defeat Vah Medoh, I almost didn't want to leave him up there. He's still barely a fledgling and the thought of someone so young taking down that beast? I can't believe I let myself leave that day." Link heard Teba say. Did Teba think he was weak enough to fall to Windblight?
"Well that test you gave him wasn't much. Honestly, dear, even Tulin could shoot twenty arrows in three minutes. Especially with how skilled Link is, I'm not surprised he managed to shoot twenty targets in half a minute." Saki disapprovingly chirped, her feathered hands rubbing circles over Links ankles.
He shifted around and let out a quiet groan, pretending that he was just waking up. Better to let them think he hadn't heard them. Fostri looked up at him before floating up from his lap, dancing over until he rested on Kass' shoulder. The bard didn't seem to mind, barely glancing at the Korok as he watched Link. Amali peered down at him, her yellow eyes keeping contact with his blue ones. "Good morning Link," she greeted and gently knocked her beak against Link’s cheek. He unconsciously returned the affection, knocking his temple against her feathered cheek.
'Good morning's were passed around as Link sat up, saying good morning back to everyone. "Why's everyone gathered here? You guys eat breakfast at different times." He asked, hiding a yawn behind his hand. Amali gently pushed Link out of her lap, helping him stand up. Sleeping on Amali's lap was surprisingly comfortable, he felt more rested than he's ever been.
"We wanted to check in on you. Kass told us what happened and we got worried," came Harth’s blunt reply. Blinking in surprise, Link looked over at Kass to see the blue Rito giving Harth the most disappointed look he's ever seen.
Making sure his slate was still on his hip, Link rubbed the sleep out of his eyes. What did today's plans look like? A quick breakfast- hopefully, then try to turn Medoh on. Oh, and apologize to Revali whenever he decided to come out. Speaking of Revali, where are the other Champions? He wondered silently before turning to the five Rito. "What did Kass tell you?" He hoped Kass hadn't told them everything.
"He told us everything."
Dammit. "Everything? As in, everything, everything?" He asked to double check. No harm in knowing what they know. He should also think of what time he wanted to leave. Medoh was basically fixed up, so he could leave as soon as he turned it on, if he wanted to.
"We know about the Princess's death, and we know you blame yourself for it. But Link, that's not your fault. If anything, it's the fault of the past king. He sent the princess and the past hero to their deaths. None of this has, or will ever be your fault, Link." Teba reassured and walked closer to Link, wings open to give him a hug.
Link looked at Kass incredulously. He tells them everything except perhaps the most important piece of information? Link almost opened his mouth to tell them the truth, when Revali appeared next to Teba, a sharp feeling echoing in his chest at the Champion's return. "Don't, Link. Rito are close minded, they wouldn't react well if you told them you were the original Champion. It was honestly a surprise how quick they were to accept you as king, my flock never would have accepted that." Revali huffed, looking around the kitchen at the five Rito.
Defeated, Link allowed himself to be hugged again. Cursed Rito and their need to hug someone, he mentally huffed as he allowed himself to relax in the embrace. Hey, it was still a hug. He'd get those whenever he could.
"What are your plans for today Link? Heading back up to Vah Medoh?" Kass asked as he plated- were those simmered fruits? When were those put to cook? The Champion wondered as Teba released him from his hold and sat down next to Saki, the two nuzzling each other. Fostri floated off Kass' shoulder and moved to Link’s, sitting and leaning against his head. Kass passed a bowl of the fruit to Link, grabbing another bowl to plate more fruit.
Link held his breakfast and sat down next to the fire, enjoying the heat that radiated from it. "Well, I fixed up Vah Medoh enough to where I think it'll run again. So I plan to turn it on, do some last minute repairs then head over to Death Mountain to see the Gorons." He explained as he took a bite of the fruit. Wild berries, apples and spicy peppers, he hummed internally as he took in the flavor of the fruit. The sweetness of the berries and apples covered the spiciness of the peppers while still allowing them to warm him up.
"Oh no you don't! You're staying for lunch at the very least!" Saki stated, a frown on her beak. Upon noticing Link’s shocked expression, she continued. "We haven't seen you in ages, at least stay for lunch when you're done with that beast."
Shocked, Link was only able to nod in agreement. "A-Alright, I'll be back for lunch." He promised, reminding himself to come back for lunch. It took Link fifteen minutes to finish his breakfast, and he was quick to excuse himself when he was done, placing all the dirty dishes in his slate and taking them out again.
"Revali? I'm sorry, for last night." He said when the two of them were alone next to Vah Medoh. "I didn't-"
Revali cut him off, an annoyed sigh leaving the Rito. "Don't. I shouldn't have blown up on you like that, I was annoyed but not at you."
"Why were you annoyed?"
It was quiet for a few seconds. Link wondered if he should've kept his mouth shut when Revali spoke again. "My flock was never accepting of me, I always had to push myself for the smallest bit of praise. But here, you have such a loving flock that accepts whatever you say without question. They trust you. I guess… you rejecting them angered me and I blew up." He explained, becoming visibly upset before straightening again.
"I shouldn't have pressured you to accept the gift, that was wrong of me. But don't take this as an apology, I'm simply telling you why I was upset." He huffed and turned away from Link.
A few seconds passed before a muffled laugh sounded from Link. "You have a talent for making an apology sound like an insult. I'm sorry for insulting your tradition, I'll be more careful about each race’s traditions in the future. Now, how am I supposed to get up there?" Link thought out loud. His paraglider was broken and he didn't have a fabric strong enough to withstand Revali's gale.
Fostri, who had been a little angel, spoke up this time. "That pink Rito put something in your slate before you woke up. She said it was a gift she meant to give you last night." He said and floated off Links shoulder, bouncing his way over to the Rito Champion where he proceeded to circle around Revali's head.
The slate couldn't leave his hip fast enough. Saki had taken his Sheikah Slate? He turned the slate on, immediately noticing the new item in his inventory. It was a new paraglider! Link gasped in shock, taking the glider out and holding it in front of him, slate shoved back on his hip.
This paraglider looked the same as his old one, the only difference was in the color. While his first one was maroon and white, this new one was a seamless blend of white to red. There had to have been some kind of dying process involved, there’s no way anyone would be able to cleanly combine these different colored fabrics together like this! The pattern of the original cloth stayed the same, a sorta moon shape in between two wings. The color stayed the same too, if a few shades lighter. There were seven different patterns on the moon and wings, each with different degrees of detailing. Whoever made the cloth itself clearly hadn’t created the seven different embroiders on the cloth.
Link stood in stunned silence, taking in the beautiful cloth in front of him. "Remind me to ask Saki what her favorite object is so I can get it for her." He was almost scared to use this paraglider. What if he broke it? Revali didn't give him the chance to doubt himself, creating a gale underneath Link and sending him skyward.
The glider caught the updraft and carried him up. The wooden beams felt smooth under the pressure but he could still keep a firm grip on them. In fact, this glider felt more secure than his old glider! Fostri laughed as he grabbed onto Link’s back at the last minute, his Snowquill Tunic whipping around in the air.
Eventually, Link landed on the back of Vah Medoh, the new glider safely put back into his slate. He held the slate up to the control unit, looking back to Revali. "You ready?" He asked the Rito Champion, receiving a scoff in response.
"Of course I'm ready. Seeing Urbosa mingle with Naboris has prepared me as much as possible. Get it over with so we can be done."
Link slid the slate over the control unit. The three of them waited in tense silence as Medoh refused to wake up. Oh no, did I do something wrong? Link panicked, staring down at the control unit.
An irritated huff was heard behind him, causing Link to turn around. "Wake up Vah Medoh, quit being lazy and wake up." Revali ordered, glaring at the head of the beast. Link almost thought it wouldn't work until Vah Medoh let out a cry. He stumbled back, the ground under him shuddering slightly with the weight of turning on. "How long do you think it'll take until a Rito flies up here and sees what's going on?" A bold, feminine voice said behind him.
"Five minutes, tops. Better question is, who will come up." A jovial and loud voice replied, followed by a softer, gentler voice.
"I think Teba will check. After all, he was the one who helped take it down."
"Are you three really making a bet right now? Ridiculous." Revali shook his head, "I think that bard will show up in a minute." He smirked before he disappeared in teal flames, though those disappeared soon after as well. The sound of wings flapping was heard after a minute, the minimal wind making the sound stand out.
Teba was the one who showed up, concern and suspicion on his face. "Link! Is everything ok? Why did Vah Medoh turn on again?" He asked and stayed far enough away to see both Vah Medoh and Link.
"Looks like Mipha guessed correctly."
"Yes, but Revali guessed when he'd appear."
"Don't worry Teba, I turned Vah Medoh on. I'll turn it off again before lunch, I wanted to see if it would actually work." Link explained, ignoring the Champions conversation. Did they do this sort of stuff all the time?
Teba looked unsure before nodding and backing away from the divine beast. "Alright, make sure you turn it off before lunch." He reminded before flying away, glancing over his shoulder once as he left.
With five hours to kill, the Champions, Fostri and Link played games and told stories around the control unit.
hmmm no vai outfit for link so we lose a major in game acknowledgement of a main (meant to be gender ambiguous) character cross dressing, a wife for sidon so we get compulsory heterosexuality which i can only assume was caused by pollution that turned the fucking frogs het, zelda’s complete loss of autonomy once again thru being fridged in the past ala typical misogynistic tropes, and ganondorf as once again the crowning nintendo achievement of a ridiculous over the top racist caricature, hmmm am starting to think nintendo put all its QA and focus groups on gameplay and stuck the nations leading racists on the main story 🤔
So I finished ToTK (although im still gonna be playing it for a long while to complete the shrines and stuff) and loved it. its a bit hard to get into; The mechanics are dense, but I got used to them eventually
But I'm interested in your perspective! You said your feelings were mixed, why's that?
Finished!!?? I'm on like....day 3 lol....
Okay, the rest of this answer contains some mild spoilers so I'm putting it under the cut in case someone hasn't played yet.
1- Zelda stole Link's house. While I kind of get the reasoning behind why for in game it's just....poor Link! He earned money and wood and bought that house (which I like to think belonged to his family pre-Calamity). And then he gave it to Zelda, or shared it and she slowly took over, or he decided he wasn't using it enough and passed to her.
Any way it goes, where is Link staying? Does he have a base or is he so on the road he doesn't see the need for one?
They mention Link follows Zelda around everywhere and I just...does he know anything else outside of helping the royal family? Of course, some of this doesn't matter in the game-verse, but thoughts I've had.
2- I was BAMBOOZLED with Gerudo Town! My favorite location! I was all excited to go explore it and showed up to a fricken wasteland of a town. Also, no vai outfit, BOO. I have heard there's new, lovely outfits, but have yet to find them.
4- A lot of the mixed feelings come from what's the same from the first game. I imagine a lot of the time went into Fuse, but considering the 4/5 year gap between SS and BotW and how MUCH they were able to put in, I feel like TotK should have more for the same time. The side quest A Gift for My Beloved in Hateno was straight up recycled with frogs instead of crickets. Again, I haven't gotten that far, so those thoughts may change.
I actually liked the move away from dungeons in BotW because I'm not great at them, so we'll see what disaster that turns into.
5- The puzzles in BotW just clicked and these ones are like shoving a square peg in a round hole for me. I've managed to overcomplicate...pretty much all of them. My partner says they're more spatial, 3D puzzles vs BotW, which could explain it.
6- You still cannot pet the dogs. Nintendo, you're killing me.
I think Fuse has the potential for a lot of fun, and I've barely explored the Sky islands and the Depths (Sky islands have been hard to reach; I need to bump up stamina or have more food on hand). I'm VERY curious about the story and I'm having fun making theories as I play. There's lots of opportunities for new fic ideas and headcanons. I go through phases playing in an afternoon where I love it, and then hit a point where it gets too frustrating and I'm done for the day. BotW I could play for hours; this, less so.
I'll be interested to see if my thoughts change as I play more and explore!
LoZ: BotW & TotK - My Thoughts on the Gerudo Vai Set
I've noticed that a lot of people have been upset over the absence of the Gerudo Vai Set even though there would've been really no point in having it in the game.
For one, Nintendo has pretty consistently been a non-political company as far as I've seen & putting that outfit in the game without there being a genuine reason like the last one, would've been leaning too far to one side. Which, I can actually appreciate.
Also keep in mind that Japan is generally a pretty conservative country, so it's more likely that the outfit was put in more as a joke than an actual statement. Kinda like how Bugs Bunny would dress in drag for a laugh. It'd also make sense if the Gerudo Vai Set just wasn't a priority in that case.
At the same time, I'm suddenly reminded of Twilight Princess where you couldn't transform back & forth between wolf & Hylian in front of people because it would've freaked them out.
I kinda wish that there was a thing like that in BotW where the game would literally stop Link from changing clothes within Gerudo eyesight because, if he did, logically they would realize that he was a voe, have him blacklisted, & bar him from entry even if he wore the Gerudo Vai Set again later. It could also result in stricter entry investigations. Though, I do think that as a result of last game, those stricter entry investigations would still be introduced, which, in itself, could be precisely why the crossdressing Vai Set seller is no longer there & you can't get the Gerudo Vai Set in this game to begin with.
I guess I just never, personally, really cared about the Gerudo Vai Set. It had, like, no armor, couldn't be upgraded so no set bonus, & was purely put there for what felt like a crossdressing joke, which I never really thought was funny to begin with. Plus, I've just never given a shit about crossdressing in-general, so I really just saw it more as a means to an end.
That isn't to say that I didn't appreciate it. Despite being a joke, they gave a good enough reason for it's existence & very little alternative. All things considered, crossdressing was, indeed, the most practical & straightforward solution to the problem as it was given, that would also be interesting as far as gameplay. I mean, I'm sure that Link could've requested an audience with Riju outside of town, but given the fact that Riju was still below the age of 18, so as per Gerudo tradition, it's not very likely that she would've done so.
Add to that the fact that I see Link as being a masculine male (not like uber-chad masculine, but more so regular guy masculine) & the sort who will crossdress in a heartbeat if he has to, but if he has the option not to, then he simply won't, because it just isn't his personal style. As a result, I tended to instinctively gravitate more towards the Desert Voe Set anyway.
I also like the new armors they put in. The Frostbite Set I don't mind as it's androgynous enough that if a woman wears it, it looks feminine, but if a man wears it, it just looks androgynous which I honestly prefer on Link anyway in lieu of a more masculine option. As opposed to the Gerudo Vai Set, which is very explicitly fem-coded.
I mean, I would've preferred something more obviously masculine & possibly even Nordic in style, but that's just me.
Actually, I'd have really liked a Nordic Frostbite Set design.
Did any of your clothes/armors from before come with you? I saw Tatl was rooting through the Purah Pad's inventory.
((ALL LISTED ARMORS have links to what they look like, friendos! Click through if you're curious or don't know! The last one is... eheh... it's a li'l easter egg~))
Quite a few. The Zora Armor comes to mind for sentimental value, especially after Yona restored it from the damage it took while fighting in it. I have some traditional Zonai clothing as well, though it seemed to have been refitted to my stature. No doubt thanks to Zelda.
The Climbing gear I had found was too useful to ever get rid of. Good grips on the gloves and boots, fantastic breathing room while climbing in the chest... it was perfectly made for ease of movement.
I do also have a ritual outfit that... well. It's hard not to say it's Rauru's given the amount of times I'd seen him wearing it. It's Charged with electricity in a way that it imbues weapons with lightning if it's ever storming around me. I have another that I'm... very fond of that seemed to fit the same feeling of being made for rituals. Wearing it in the cold doesn't warm me up. It makes the cold invigorating to be in, like I'm wielding Frostbite itself.
Speaking of other cultural outfits, there's the traditional Vai dressings made for Hylians by the Gerudo. They accepted me once I came to begin calling myself Lianka much more publicly. And it was... key to regaining my memories when I had at one point lost them. And there's the "Snowquill" brand of Hylian wear made specifically by the Rito folk. I'm quite fond of this set. It's a warmth I forget I need sometimes in more ways than one.
Oh, right. The Shiekah people made sure I didn't go without their own culture's set. Wearing it seems to erase almost all sound your body makes, it's eerie. Which can be very useful when in underground caverns. Especially ones thousands of meters below the surface. Though sometimes, I just needed to fight while down there, and the very armor I was gifted in those Depths was a boon. It looks just like fabric, but there's a magic in them I couldn't be without.
<You are WORDY when you wanna be. And yet you've still not said a dang thing with your actual mouth. You just like talking about things that aren't yourself, don't you?>
... Writing also feels so much better than speaking. And it's a slight step above from using sign language.
There's one other... far more Ancient piece of armor... I think it was something of an armor set that a hero of eld wore eras ago. Maybe even the very hero that fought in a war that took place before even Rauru was King of Hyrule. I say this because it holds a lot of the same Zonai design that I'm used to seeing. Mineru even wore a lot of similar pieces... But... it...
... Something must've changed in it over the years. I've read stories of an old hero of Hyrule facing off against a masked being using their own masks as weapons. They were able to channel the skills and forms of other races into their own fighting styles. And I feel like that was always the intended effect using this armor.
But it feels rather off, all things considered, because I don't quite think this was the form they had in mind when this armor was put onto a Hylian.
Hi there, just wanted to say that I’ve been “lowkey stalking” your blog for a while now and I really enjoy your works. I also use them as inspiration since I JUST fell into the Link fandom and this blog is a great place to look back on. I will say that I’m only really familiar with Breath of the Wild since that was what got me into the fandom ever since I saw Link in that one outfit that makes him look like a girl but that’s fine by me, femboys need love too. Anyways I’d thought I’d share with you my ideas that I have of Link, so this isn’t really a request, but rather a conversation that maybe others can relate to if they please. I’m certainly in the process of writing a juicy story where Link, (who’s an high functioning mute in my imagination- don’t ask why) gets jelly when my oc brings over a friend who looks more like a prettier boy that Link is and he gets sad. Then my oc tries to make him feel better by showing him all the love that Link deserves. Also I have a thing with Tall Queens and Short Kings… cuz I’m tall myself, about 5’8” or about 69.6 inches (nice) and my oc is 6’1” or 73 inches and Link is 5’2” or 62 inches. Long story short, Tall Queen makes Short King Link feel loved and cared for like the real person that he is, also there’s a rope involved. Still working out the details. Sorry for rambling like this, I talk to much all the time, just wanted to say hi, enjoy your work, keep going for it, and rest when you need to… Also I’m Dianna by the way, nice to meet you. Have an apple 🍏 c:
oh you're so sweet!!!!!!!!!! hi!!!!! im kore, nice to meet you!!!!
i headcanon that wild/link is selectively mute and autistic!!! i am also autistic!! i think he signs!!!! i also think that he only speaks to his partner
THE VAI OUTFIT IS IN MY TOP 3 FAV SETS FROM BOTW!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love that ur a tall queen!!!!! i love tall queens theyre super beautiful and attractive!!
i love feminine men they are my type!!!!!! im a whopping 5' 1" but its okay cause me and wild can be small together !!!!! ofc i love big strong men too (read: twilight) my bf is the perfect mix!!!! he's 5'2" but he's jacked as fuck i miss him i wanna sit on his face!!!!!!!
i love apples!!! thank u so much ur such a darling!!!!! i wish you the best of luck with your piece
So. The “Miss Vai battle pageant” little mini battle in Age of Calamity where the women all spar to determine who is the strongest. I have thoughts about it.
So the first time I played through it, I played as Zelda cause she was the strongest out of all the characters I was able to play, and honestly she kicks ass especially with her goddess powers, but that’s not particularly important. I played through defeating the others (Impa, Urbosa, Riju, Mipha, and Tera) and I beat them all and I was expecting the stage to be over.
But no. No, there was one last contender. And keep in mind, this stage takes place in Gerudo Town. Link runs in, all dolled up in their pretty little Gerudo Town outfit, ready to fight for the title of “Miss Vai”.
Anyway I take that as Link being canonically genderfluid that is all.
The Guardian of the Legend
The Barrier between Realms pulsates. If it shatters, the entire world will be plunged into unending chaos. I, Guardian of the Legend, am tasked with protecting the Temple of Time. It has been relatively simple: prune and water the Tree of Sky and pull any weeds that grow, harvest the Sky Fruit and store them in the cellar for later sacrifice to the Goddesses, collect any rotten or corrupt fruit that might have fallen from the Tree of Sky and cast them into the fire, reinforce the magic seal on the Doors of Time, polish the Mirror of Twilight, recite the Ballad of the Hero, ward off intruders and trespassers, meditate, and await the arrival of the one who wields the Blade of Evil's Bane, among other common tasks.
It's lonely in the Temple of Time. The other Guardians abandoned their promise 11876 years ago, and visitors disappeared shortly after, so the only intruders and trespassers I ward off are birds, deer, and other wildlife. I have not seen what lies on the other side of the Doors of Time, but from what I have been told, it is the entryway to the Sacred Realm.
Anyway, right now I'm meditating in the garden, which is where the Tree of Sky resides. I hear footsteps. Hylian footsteps. Coming from the entrance to the Temple. I stand up immediately and grab my weapon, a sword called "The Shattered Fractal". I race to the entrance, making sure not to make a sound. When I get there, I see a young Hylian adult, no older than 17, wearing the sacred garbs of the Hero. I stand in front of the Doors of Time and say, "You who trespasses on these sacred grounds, what makes you think you can wear the sacred garbs of the Hero? Did you take them from him? Did you beat him and slay him, only to steal his tunic?"
My words frighten the young man, and he retorts, "What? No! I didn't kill him! Why would I have done that? My name is Link, and I was tasked by the Princess to retrieve the Master Sword from the Temple of Time. I was given this outfit by Impa."
"Well then, it seems you will die."
"WHAT!?"
"You lied. I know the Princess, and she is very slow to trust. She'd only appoint someone she knows very well to retrieve the Blade of Evil's Bane. As for Impa, she has no right to bestow those garbs to anyone."
"What are you talking about? I am the Princess's appointed knight, and Impa is not only her closest advisor, but also the chief of the Sheikah Tribe."
I hesitate before saying, "So… everyone I knew… is dead?"
"Perhaps, but I could bring you to Hyrule Castle, so you can meet Princess Zelda."
"No. I cannot leave the Temple of Time. The Princess… of my time… ordered me to watch over the Temple until the day I die. And since I was blessed by the Goddess Hylia with immortality, I shall remain here, in this Temple, until the end of time."
"So… will you let me pass so I can get the Master Sword?"
I do not respond. Instead, I turn and go up a flight of stairs to a balcony that looks over the room. I watch Link as he plays the Song of Time, and then the seal on the Doors of Time breaks. The Doors open, and Link takes the Master Sword. He leaves with the Sword, promising to return with Zelda.
Three weeks later, Link returns with Zelda, Impa, and a Gerudo. During those three weeks, several monsters invaded the Temple. By the time Link and the others arrive, I've set up two pairs of stone guardians to defend the entrance to the Temple of Time. I wake up to hear a struggle just outside the entrance. I take my sword and see who is out there. Upon realizing that it's just Link and the people he promised to return with, I unalive the stone guardians. After everything calms down, I apologize for almost killing them. The Gerudo says, "For a vai of your size, you have some pretty strong magic."
I bow and lead the four of them into the Temple. Link introduces me to each of them.
He introduces Zelda first, and I immediately drop to one knee and bow to her.
"Your Highness, you may not know who I am, but I was tasked with protecting this Temple by one of your ancestors who went by the same name as you. I have honored my promise and kept the Temple of Time safe for the past twelve millennia."
Zelda looks surprised and somewhat concerned. "How long have you been alone here?" She asks.
"Oh, only about 11 millennia, 8 centuries, 7 decades, and 6 years."
Link is startled, Zelda is concerned, the Gerudo is amazed, and Impa is impressed.
"Uh, well… this is Urbosa," Link says as he gestures to the Gerudo, "and she insisted on coming, despite Impa,"-Impa raises her hand in greeting-"telling her not to."
"Hmm. Well, it is nice to meet you," I say.
"Who was with you the first 128 years? You said you've been alone for 11876 years out of the roughly 12000 that you've been here, so who was with you for the first 128?" Impa inquires.
"The Guardians of Time, Sky, and Twilight. After 32 years, Time betrayed his promise and left to return to civilization. After 64, Twilight made the mistake of letting a being of evil steal something sacred, and so he was banished. And after 128, Sky stole sacred fruit from his own tree, which angered the Goddesses, so they smote him and banished him from this plane of existence," I respond.
Have you played Tears of the Kingdom yet? If so, what are your thoughts?
YEA I DID (haven’t finished it yet tho)
-> this ask keeps getting postponed because when it came in I just started playing for a few days and made a list of some highlights but then I found more stuff while playing and it got longer, and longer…so
TDLR
game good, I keep getting distracted by EVERYTHING, Rauru >>>> Rhoam, I like how they changed all the things that would’ve been deliberately sought out by returning players like the towns or Satori yet kept the rest the same enough to not feel alienating, Zelda‘s voice actor did not need to go that hard on the blood moon clip (though I‘m not playing with English dub since dubs are generally pretty good here which is nice :3)
Also here’s the list:
I miss my ice module anon. I miss her a lot
Also one of the new enemies gave me a total jumpscare. Like, an actual jumpscare, I was just walking around some random cave collecting stuff and then BAM. NIGHTMARE FUEL. They did not have to bring deadhand back like THAT man ;-;
LOVE the new towers, it’s such a cool way to see stuff and travel fast
Not sure if I should hate or love the fire temple- on one hand, the intended way seems convoluted af and I could not understand where I‘m supposed to go with the carts for the love of me- on the other hand, there’s so many ways to go through this dungeon on your own
Surprisingly did not run into any Redeads yet despite doing a good chunk of the maps and 3 dungeons but it can stay that way NVM I FOUND THEM. OH HECK NO.
Whoever decided one of the most horrible enemies of the entire series should be reimagined from undead corpses to the insects feasting on said undead corpses is both an utter genius and I hope they get cursed for the horrors they unleashed upon the world
Also unlike the promo art Gdorf isn’t green in the scenes I’ve seen so far which is…interesting- is that smth they did with the other versions too, and greendorf was just nostalgia bait? Is it censoring? The green just a side effect of the evil goo I haven’t seen yet? All of it?
Speaking of I THINK I JUST FOUND THE FRICKIN OOT SPIRIT TEMPLE!??? I‘d recognize that main room with the stupid middle light anywhere, took me WAY too long to figure out how to get on the middle platform-
Can’t wait to jump into a well and get jumpscared by the goo hands =)
Between Rauru‘s name, the temples, and the whole thing with Ganondorf essentially being the first part of oot all over again there’s lots of ocarinas here for something that mostly referenced skyward sword so far-
RIP Wolf Link,at least even in the Sacred Realm he still gets to hunt and bring insane amounts of meat to Link :(
Where is Kass. Seriously where is he. I didn’t find him on the road or in Rito village is he ok-
F to the Sages of Shadow, apparently they got fired
BOTW DLC ITEMS IN BASE GAME LETS GOOOOOOO
Also the details that‘re here because of botw, like NPC’s recognizing Link or that one town existing, paints a really interesting picture of the "canon“ botw run: mainly that Link did most shrines, talked to every main quest npc, helped with the town, saved his house from destruction and gave it to Zelda (or they took SO long to demolish that Zelda could buy it herself, but the first one‘s cuter)
but also that Link never talked to any other non-important npcs, and that he did the whole thing without buying a single piece of clothing other than the Hyrule set. My man did the entirely of death mountain and the desert purely by chugging potions and eating food. (And a vai outfit lying around somewhere or sold, presumably. So weird that you can sell clothing, does anyone actually do that? They’re so expensive to buy)
