This is a weird thought I’m having so I wanted to ramble a bit but I don’t understand this weird double standards in fandom that I’ve noticed and it’s just. Idk.

JayVik is one of the most popular ships in the arcane fandom despite Jayce saying ‘he’s like a brother to me’

Meanwhile Genji says ‘you’re like a brother to me’ to Cassidy in one of their interactions and immediately everyone starts dunking on the ship saying it’s found family it’s this it’s that and now you can’t ship it. I think it mainly just comes down to ship popularity tbh like. It’s undeniable people like yeehan and JayVik a lot more than they like things like Spuriken and idk. MelJay? (only comparison I could think of)

I think with JayVik specifically it’s also that you get to see a lot more development between Jayce and Viktors relationship, so most fans would probably grow attached to it more despite what happens with Mel who we see a bit less of??

Idk about overwatch every ship just gets tablescraps I don’t even know where yeehan came from 😭 blizzard can’t even decide if it wants to push Pharmercy or Gency so I am so honestly over it at this point lmaoo

I have no issues with any of these ships do whatever you want I just think it’s interesting how people cherry pick depending on the ship/fandom ig?

(Obviously overwatch is not arcane and the fandoms/general fans/shipping cultures are suupppperrrr different I just happen to be in both and this is something I noticed while actively being apart of both fandoms)

Whomst the fuck 'agrees' that Pharah x Mercy is 'creepy' because of a 5 year age gap. For all the issues you could have with that ship, a 5 year age gap for people I'm pretty sure are in their late 20s/early 30s is kind of a stupid issue to have

"27 year-old young adult lad" you mean an adult?? an adult, a 27 year-old is an ADULT.

23 years is a pretty hefty age gap, sure, but these are fictional characters who are consenting adults. same as above, you can have issues with the ship, you can even have issues with the age gap in specific, but phrasing it as 'a 27 year-old young adult lad and a 50 year-old middle age man' is... is a weird way to put it.

i saw someone on twitter saying that they headcanon venture as transmasc and like… bruh they’re transneu??? and they tried to argue with me and others about it??? like wtf???

“transmasc non-binary people exist,” okay, that is true… but venture is not one of them.

everything about them is extremely neutral and blizzard took great care — for once in their goddamn existence — to make sure it was going to be that way.

saying they’re anything other than transneu is straight up erasure. full stop, point blank, period.

like yes, i will be the first one to say that we need more transmasc (and especially transfem) non-binary representation in media, but venture isn’t one of them. they’re transneu. end of story.

and this has nothing to do with me personally headcanoning venture as amab. i am not biased against afab venture, people can have their headcanons all they want (/gen) but the fact is that they are transneu, it is just the truth. blizzard doesn’t need to hold our hand and explicitly say it when the proof is right there in front of us.

A lot of fandom discourse could be solved metaphorically overnight if fandoms would remember that there's not enough room/time for everyone to get equal narrative spotlight and therefore it isn't some kind of bigoted insult to have side characters or not everyone get equal exploration

So far I've noticed something when it comes to Gency shippers, specifically when it comes to what platform your on.

If you're a gency shipper on Tumblr your usually chill and don't come for other people's ships, so when I see you it doesn't raise any alarms.

On tictok however, your either just vibing like everyone else or your making the fact that you ship Gency everyone else's problem. That or it's literally the only relationship you care about. So when I see a gency shipper on there I'm sitting here wondering wether or not they're causing ship discourse.

I think the reason for this is because Tumblr is seasoned with fandom culture while Tictok is usually filled with new fans, most of which are entering their first fandoms, meaning they don't know fandom etiquette.

Like not going onto other ship posts and commenting that another ship is better.

Or that fuelling a ship war is no fun for anyone.

This also applies to Pharmercy, Bapweaver, Yeehan and Cashe.

(Note because I know people will mention this; I know that this behaviour for Cashe and Gency shippers can be explained with homophobia, but I personally don't see those types of people as genuine shippers, they're just using a ship as an excuse to be an asswhole)

Grooming is a deliberate attempt to mold, indept and manipulate a person. This is often done to children. 2 adults that new each other when they are younger is not grooming. That belittles the evil of an adult deliberately trying to attatch a child to themselves.

However grooming, gaslighting and abuse can happen between adults. Young adults can abuse older adults. Ppl the same age can be gaslit and manipulated by one another. Between adults age is just a number. A clever manipulative 24 yr old can take advantage of a desperate insecure 60 yr old

Young adults can often be friends with kids, it happens in families all the time. Yes kiriko was a child befriending her moms students who we r e young adults

Their ages are based on the current year. Its still the same year in overwatch but its been 7 since launch. So no reinhardt wasnt born in 2016.

people who say roadhog and junkrat are brothers or even father & son have such a blatant misunderstanding of their lore and dynamic. and i don't mean this to be rude or condescending at all! i just don't see how people can look at their relationship and see that.

it's okay to not ship roadrat, it's okay to not like it, and yes… it's okay to be uncomfortable with the ship because of its age gap and/or other reasons. but to say their relationship is familial is just... incorrect?

how can you see that lifeweaver and junkrat interaction and still think it's familial? like, i am genuinely asking. they are so clearly romantically coded, and to me, it just feels gross to misinterpret that.

oh also speaking of overwatch and teamwork any game with a voice chat de facto mechanically disadvantages female players (& any player with a voice that reads as feminine) because one of the most effective ways to rank up is to consistently communicate and it is really hard to take advantage of that advice when it leads to being sexually harassed nonstop. A little info from lovingoverwatchguys - That Ph*rmercy theory was indeed started by a homophobe. The origin of that was a massive Twitter thread where the user complained of the writers/devs "catering to gay creators", which is so stupid that nobody would come to that conclusion for a reason other than homophobia. He was also one of the annoying straight people that complains about LGBT people "accepting bad representation". So. Mystery solved.

Listen, I always try and give people the benefit of the doubt, especially if it's a big group. It's why I specified that the two types of people who believe this theory were either homophobes or just people who are new to the lore. Cause misinformation spreads like wild fire in this fandom. However, this theory specifically has homophobic tones and undertones from the start.

Also the "catering to gay creators" argument has always been stupid to me, because if they were catering to anyone, especially with games, they would be catering towards the cis-het demographic, especially with FPS games like Overwatch.

Again I'm ok with Pharmercy, I don't really ship it for my own reasons, but at least I have valid reasons. Spreading misinformation about a ship just because, at best, you don't like it, is idiotic and harmful.
