P5R PMD AU because i am insane!!!

So I have many a thought in my head and with Spike Chunsoft dangling the idea of a new Mystery Dungeon entry in front of my face this past week I have more thoughts. Especially about the Mystery Dungeon AU's I create with every fandom I join.

So um Persona 5 PMD au (with some visuals).

Also this will contain major spoilers for Persona 5 Royal and Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon.

First, this is a rewrite of PMD Super, because I will not write a new story for this and also because I always see Explorers get the crossover au/rewrite treatment (as it should tbh) and we gotta switch it up!! Now with the main plot not really changing we can jump into the characters.

1. The Heros

The hero role is filled both by Akira Kurusu and Goro Akechi, both being human and both losing their memories respectfully after being isekai'd into a foreign world. These bitches gay, so I think it's funny to throw them into another god killing situation.

The role stays true to the plot, get chased by Beheeyem, get adopted, join the guild, etc. it would just have more banter between characters in between.

Akira:

At first you may think, "Wouldn't Zorua fit better? Isn't that the black and red trickster Pokémon that fits the overall aesthetic really well? Wouldn't it have been cool for an Akiren that could summon fake illusion personas???" Because I thought the same things until I realized I cannot draw Zorua!

I also think even though Floragato doesn't really fit aesthetically, it fits in every other aspect of joker persona. Silly little jester cat.

I also thought Zorua would be too much of an awkward fit in the group just, vibes man, he's too small. Once you see my other picks you'll get it. You get silly little jester cat take it or leave it.

Goro:

STUPID BIRD!! THE CHOICE IS OBVIOUS!! FUCKIN,, CROW MAN!! CORVISQUIRE SWEEP!!

I also made him shiny because it matches his color pallete. Literally easiest decision in the world. I was originally going to go with rookidee but again, too small.

2. The partner

You thought these bitches were doing this shit alone?? NO!! THEY NEED A SILLY FRIEND!! WHO ELSE TO PUT IN THE ROLE OF THE WEIRD ADOPTED ORPHAN THAN WEIRD ADOPTED ORPHAN FUTABA SAKURA!! Also going forward no other character is human, very important pmd shit.

Futaba:

Similarly to the p5 plot, Futaba is still grieving her mom while getting adopted by Sojiro. Wakaba died in an "unfortunate accident" while doing research for a guild on the grass continent. The last thing left in Futaba's possession is her harmony scarf. Unlike p5, Futaba didn't actually see her mom die since she was in Serene Village while her mom was doing research. She still somewhat blames herself for her mother's death but is motivated to find the truth behind it.

Futaba's social anxiety would prevent her from joining a proper exploration team, until of course she gets two new neighbors that are reminded of someone in her and feel obligated to help (THE HEROS FROM BEFORE IN CASE YOU DIDNT GET THAT). Also in Super, the partner doesn't join a team because everyone fucking hates them and I thought wow! That's way too mean! And not in character!! So I changed that.

Anyways JOLTIK FUTABA, SMALL CREATURE. The only one allowed to be teeny tiny.

I originally was planning to go with a Dewpider since I knew for a fact that I wanted her to be a bug type but then I saw Joltik and thought "wow, this bitch has so much mischievous energy" and it stuck.

She'd probably run a support build of some kind in preparation to be backup.

3. Nuzleafs replacement

Takuto Maruki.

If you thought anyone but him I would tell you to replay Super Mystery Dungeon BECAUSE I THINK IT FITS SO WELL.

Also because it's weird that Nuzleaf was like unemployed, I also made Maruki Audinos replacement as the school nurse. He can be in a weird cult and work at the school at the same time.

Yes Maruki is the one who sends our protagonists to hell! After his childhood friend Rumi never truly recovered from an accident, Maruki turned to the help of Yveltal, believing that the limbo-like state is better than suffering for a lifetime. This happiness can be easily achieved if only he had a human that could destroy the barrier on Revelation Mountain, then their plan would be foolproof..

Also important to note that actualization doesn't exist because personas and the metaverse wouldn't exist in Pokémon.

FURRET MARUKI SHAKES YOU. His ass looks normal until he STABS YOU IN THE BACK!!

4. Classmates

Ok I got a little burnt out at this point so I don't have references for these ones but the gist is they're literally just the Shujin guys. None of them would join the exploration team (sorry :() but they would still get little side stories. I also tried to match certain characters with their metaverse powers as a little silly.

Ann: Braixen. Literally makes so much sense. Strong girlboss fire wizard like get it queen!! Fuck yeah!

Ryuji: Luxio but specifically with rivalry instead of intimidate purely because it's funny.

Makoto: Houndour. Honestly went with this because of vibes and also because she counters and covers Haru's weaknesses because I am a Makoharu stan frfr.

Haru: Galarian Ponyta. See Makoto.

Mishima: Please suggest a Pokémon for Mishima. I do not have one.

Shiho: also up for suggestions

Sumire: Eevee. Since actualization doesn't exist, she still knows she's Sumire, but is still strongly advised by Maruki to follow in her sisters footsteps considering she trained her entire life as a performer, why shatter your dreams and pursue something that has the chance to bring you pain? Specifically replaces Espurr in this au since she's being manipulated by Maruki.

Yusuke: Alolan Vulpix. Not part of the school, he lives in Lively Town with Madarame, but he gets included on this list because I have no where else to put him.

Morgana: Purrloin. Isn't in this story like at all because he got arrested for crime. Thought I'd include him anyways.

5. Extra thoughts

I have a few more characters that I know for sure are going to be here. Every change of heart is going to happen but they would most likely get arrested instead (cause no metaverse).

This really is just a self-indulgent mashup of P5 and PMD. The characters still generally keep their arcs even if they aren't as important, the overall plot is just that of PMD Super.

Weakness (Akechi and Joker)

Prompt: Akechi goes to confront Akira about his choice concerning Dr. Maruki’s reality, and sees a side of his rival he wished he hadn’t.

Goro Akechi, after all he’d been through, didn’t think it was possible at this point for him to be surprised. From his first discovery of the metaverse all the way to Akira’s clever escape from death, his own mysterious escape from death in Shido’s palace, to the god of control, and finally when all’s said and done, Maruki’s reality shifting powers come into play…

He’d managed to grasp his situation each time, and thought there was nothing in the world that could catch him off guard.

He was wrong…

They were already prepared. The treasure route to Markuki’s palace was secure and they were simply counting down the days, waiting until the unavoidable encounter. Akechi was looking for Akira, unfortunate as that was to him, because he needed confirmation. Confirmation that Akira wouldn’t give up and accept Dr. Maruki’s reality. Goro knew the thought had crossed his mind, and it made him nervous. He didn’t want to exist in a world where he was under someone else’s thumb anymore. He wanted to atone and make his own choices. It was all he could do…

He finally found Akira, after some trouble and asking around, at the temple… alone. Morgana wasn’t even present. Perhaps that was a good thing, as the chatty cat never seemed to shut up. Akira was bundled in his winter coat and sitting lax, staring out into space while the cold nipped at him and wind lightly ruffled through his hair. He seemed very deep in thought.

“Finally.” Akechi groaned. “It took forever to find you.“

He stopped short, noticing out Akira suddenly stiffened. As if the sound of his voice was jarring and had dragged him out of whatever mental safe haven he was hiding in. He scoffed, crossing his arms. “I suppose it’s like you to get lost in your own head, but we have important matters to discuss.”

Akira didn’t answer… he probably knew what Akechi was here for, and didn’t want to discuss it either way, which was something the former detective would not stand for.

“Don’t think ignoring me is going to get you out of-“

He was cut off.

“Leave.”

Goro pauses at this. The command was quiet, but there was a certain… agitation behind it. No, not agitation. Anger. It was very unlike the Phantom Thieves leader. Akira was usually so lax and calm about everything. Even in Shido’s palace, he didn’t allow emotions or past situations to interfere with that easy going demeanor, so the sudden twinge of malice in his tone sent up a warning flag.

Akechi narrowed his eyes at this, noting his rival’s suddenly rigid posture. As if the presence of any other human being was a disturbance. Tactfully, he continued.

“As much as I’d love to be as far away from you as possible, there’s something we need to settle. I won’t take no for an answer and this childish attitude you’re pulling isn’t going to dissuade me from-“

It happened suddenly. In a swift blur, Akira was off his seat and lashed out. Akechi was pinned to the wall, the wind knocked out of him. He clenched his eyes shut for a moment in pain, and when he opened them he was met with a very unsettling sight. Akira… his usually calm and collected rival, looked like he was ten seconds away from bashing his head into the wall. His eyes were wide and livid. He held Akechi to the wall with a horribly harsh grip on his arms, which was sure to leave a mark later. He was trembling somewhat, but not from the cold. His pupils were dilated and his gaze narrow with lightly concealed threats.

The flood of emotion in those currently cold and angry eyes seemed like they could bore a hole through Akechi’s skull. It was the first time he’d truly ever seen Akira angry… and loathed as he was to admit it, it was frightening.

“A- Akira, what are you doing?!” Goro cursed himself for stuttering, but he truly was caught off guard.

His breath hitched as Akira’s grip on his arms, somehow, became even tighter.

“Can I not be alone for ten minutes?!” His rival seethed with barely contained hatred. “Is there no such thing as peace and quiet?! Does something have to be going wrong in my life every other moment?! What do you want?!”

It didn’t take Akechi long to realize, even in his stunned state, that whatever mental episode was happening right now was likely the result of many months of hidden frustration. Quiet endurance. Truly taking a second to consider it, Akira had been through a lot in a very short span of time… The false charges, being ostracized from his parents and sent away, facing the disdain of his peers in school and other adults who couldn’t be bothered to look beyond a few rumors, being caught, drugged, and nearly killed, fighting himself, fighting Shido, then fighting the god of control… and just when the chaos and pain seems to have finally settled, being faced with Maruki’s reality.

Goro didn’t answer him… he stayed quiet, because he was certain saying anything right now would just set Akira off. Eventually, though it took a good long while of hateful staring, his rival seemed to slowly come to the realization of what he was doing. Shakily and slowly he loosened his grip, though he didn’t let go.

Head lowered with a mix of emotions Goro had never before seen, Akira spoke with an exhausted and wavering voice.

“I just need… silence.”

Akechi nodded, and his rival released him, backing away and looking a bit pale as he sat back down, burying his face in his hands. It occurred to him suddenly, that no one, not even the multitude of loyal friends he’d made, had ever seen Akira in such a vulnerable state. He hadn’t let them… He always had a mask on, to hide his pain from the injustices constantly thrown at him. It was somewhat ironic, that of all the friends he made, it was his rival who got to see this side of him first. Goro should have been pleased… but he wasn’t. He didn’t enjoy seeing him like this at all. Especially when Akira’s shoulders began to shake slightly, signifying he was quietly crying. Akechi could tell he’d tried to stop it at first, but after having lashed out to begin with deemed it didn’t matter either way and gave in.

So Akechi did the best thing he could do in that situation… he left. Left Akira to gather himself without the disruption of other people. The ‘detective prince’ took the train to Kinjoji, and went to one of the few places he himself found refuge. The jazz club. He sat down, and began to think.

How tempting must Dr. Maruki’s reality be to Akira…? After all he’s been through, he’s faced with a decision. To go back to the world as he knows it, or accept this distorted perfect reality and finally feel peace. He hadn’t even really considered it. He’d been so focused on the thought that Akira might accept Dr. Maruki’s offer solely for the sake of keeping him alive, that he hadn’t even thought about the other factors that might be luring him in. Try as he might, Akechi couldn’t get Akira’s moment of weakness out of his head. For the first time, Joker, the leader of the Phantom Thieves, looked so broken. So tired. Like he just wanted to give in and rest. It was honestly rattling, because for the first time, Akira seemed human. Not just some laid back teenage prodigy that has the world handed to him on a silver platter. Honestly, Goro felt a bit uncomfortable that his image of Akira was being skewed in this way. He always saw and detested his rival for the things he had… conviction, friends, the power to change his fate. It was part of what made them such great rivals. But Goro should’ve known better… things are never so simple.

The idea that Akira might accept Dr. Maruki’s reality now seemed closer than before. Akechi knew he wouldn’t stand a chance against Maruki alone. He’d be forced to accept whatever reality his rival chose. It was disheartening, knowing this decision was out of his hands. He frowned at his drink and sighed.

So be it…

god,, im half asleep so I can't figure in where exactly this would fit, but

pls imagine joker and akechi being suddenly reunited post-interrogation room at a lavish masquerade within shido's palace

joker needs to get across a large ballroom swarming with guards by blending in, and dancing with the party guests

on a particularly lavish twirl he ends up with an armful of the beautiful detective who betrayed him and nearly shot him dead

pls think about joker and akechi passionately twirling* around the ballroom as they exchange heated whispers about what the other thinks they're doing there

akechi being mildly shocked that joker is alive but kind of expecting it all the same ("you never cease to amaze me, joker"), while trying to tersely convince him and his 'lackeys' to butt out and let goro handle shido. this is his revenge

joker dramatically dipping akechi as he tries to convince him to join the theives in taking down shido, that it's not too late to make amends and that he doesn't have to be alone

pls pls think about the high romance and the drama of spinning and weaving through the glittering crowd, while trying to remain undetected by the place's increasing security. in the arms of the one other person so messily tangled up in the same strings of fate. the tension and underlying hurt, and the sheer need of getting through to the other person

please i just need the aesthetic of a high stakes, unexpected reunion under the circumstances of joker and akechi having to cling tightly to each other as they bare their hearts to one another beneath the lights of the chandeliers in a sea of masked cognitions

maybe once they reach the opposite side of the ballroom, they release each other and goro gives akira one last forlorn gaze, before slipping off into the party..

..or maybe joker manages to push and pull akechi back into joining the phantom theives, but for real this time, to work together to take down the biggest asshole in japan

so yeah i finally started playing Persona 5

so people are actually interested in my and @caramellody‘s scott the woz phantom thief au?? which like i was hoping for but im still lowkey surprised

i dont rlly have any more Big Art so ill use this post as a Lore Dump under the cut (ill likely make a seperate post for things involving p5 spoilers though. so dw abt that im keeping this one spoiler free, mostly major ones but ill err on the side of caution)

OKAY SO. this au begins with Dr. Anna May, who has mostly backed off but she just Cannot let scott’s refusal to play persona 5 slide. so, she uses her Anime Realm Powers or whatever they are to isekai him into the game. He becomes an additional orignal phantom thief alongside joker, ryuji, and ann, and will be released from the game when he beats it.

to accomplish this, anna has used her dominion over anime to create extra backstory for an additional character. iirc scott has played the p5r intro for footage, but i dont think anything past that? i could be wrong but just for the sake of au. thats where were at.

SO, scott is basically also from jokers hometown, and had also tried to intervene in the event that led to joker getting arrested in the first place, and are now both under sojiros roof bc. idk same case. they have bunk beds :)

that said, scott doesn’t really live that backstory? like he goes to bed in ohio one night, wakes up to mr. purse owner 5 shaking him awake like “hey cmon this is our stop” he sorta has to pick it up from context clues. he also has to go to shujin, and while it makes more sense for this to be Scott But High School Age for the duration of the isekai thing, i find its infinitely funnier if hes just. the same 24yo scott as irl. nobody acknowledges or questions this.

he also cant say hes in a game lest the ps4 hes running on fuckin explode, so anytime he tries what comes out is replaced with. something relevant that doesnt break the 4th wall. yknow the e3 2017 video intro. it looks/sounds like that.

SPEAKING of the ps4, time is moving at the games pace from scotts perspective. like, days can be quick for us as the player, but for scott in this situation a day is a day. 24 hours. outside of the game time is moving as usual however. at one point rex gets into scotts apartment, sees scott on the tv and the ps4 playing itself, and just tells the others “yeah hes fine hes just having one of those wacky gaming adventures again” by the time hes out, assuming abt a 100hr playthough is average (thats what i got anyways) only a few days have passed in ohio

anyways hes really pissy about the situation at first, i like to imagine anna may showed up the first night after it all started in her own velvet room dream sequence to explain everything, but thats just for theming/aesthetic purposes, i feel like joker should still be the only wildcard of the groupbut he gets to where the kamoshida plot is really ramping up and the shiho moment. and idk abt you guys but that moment hit me HARD, so scott basically goes i know this is very real and im so ready to throw down. (bold = 4th wall preserving redaction btw.)

his rebellious spark is him putting his moping about the situation aside to do said throwing down, and to overall make the best out of his situation (i mean, hes in japan, they made wario there, might as well see the sights while ur stuck there)

the actual phantom thief design is, again, by caramellody. i came up with duel as a codename, bc of the dual color scheme and duel bein a fightin word sjklfdsjf. (also if you put duel and scott together the initials are DS. thats video game initials........) outside of a jokey persona like vince young or smth, im stuck on his persona but i like to think of him using both fire and ice on a slightly weaker scale compared to ann and yusuke, sorta like crow with bless and curse. hes a blunt weapon user like ryuji, but theyre all like. light blunt weapons. and hes a lighter hitter and much more agile than ryuji.

this post is getting Way Too Long, so ill close out by saying. this au is supposed to defo supposed be on the goofier side, but me and caramellody have some canon divergence planned that puts the goofy to the side for a second...
