Palia Tips
Some things I have learned that might help others. 🩵
Game Controls
You can put away your tool by pressing X.
If you get stuck, type /unstuck in the chat window and you’ll be teleported to the nearest stable surface.
Right clicking with a tool equipped will let you switch between different types of ammo (for bug catching and hunting).
You can cancel without wasting ammo after entering "aim" mode by pressing the Shift key or right mouse button (h/t @sharky857 ).
You can climb ivy in addition to cliffs. (Like inside the lighthouse..!)
You can cancel climbing/drop from a cliff face by clicking X. (h/t @lazyadmiral )
You can jump (space bar) while climbing cliffs to climb faster.
You can hold down the mouse key when mining, tilling, and chopping down trees rather than clicking for each chop.
Camera & Photos
Press K to enter camera mode.
There’s a 🔁 button in the corner if you want to swap to a front-facing camera/“selfie mode”.
If you want to see your photos while in the game, you have to save them to the album. However all photos taken, even if you don’t do that step, will be saved to your computer’s hard drive.
To find your photos, open Windows Explorer and enter %appdata% in the location bar. From there navigate to %AppData%/Local/Palia/Saved/Screenshots. You should be able to pin this folder to your quick nav/favorites to find it again easily.
Time
One hour of real time = one entire day in Palia. That means an hour in Palia passes in only 2.5 minutes of play.
You only get "credit" (for building friendships) for chatting with villagers once per villager per day.
Many bugs, fish, and plants can only be found at certain times. Time in Palia is divided into: ‣ Morning: 3-6am (rooster crows at 3) ‣ Day: 6am-6pm ‣ Evening: 6pm-9pm ‣ Night: 9pm-3am (owl hoots at 9)
Time in Palia is the same across all servers. Midnight (a new day) will always be on the hour in real world time, so 6am in Palia is at X:15, noon is at X:30, and 6pm is at X:45.
6am is a "new day" for crops, but midnight is a "new day" for chatting with villagers. Midnight also seems to be when the furniture in Tish’s shop refreshes.
Gifting runs on real world time, not Palia time. You can only give a villager one gift every 24 hours in the real world, and "Weekly Wants" are valid for one real world week. The week currently resets on Mondays at 12am Eastern.
Once you get a villager's key, you can talk to and visit them even when they are "asleep".
Mail is delivered and picked up (shipping bin sales) at 6am and 6pm.
To find rare spawns, arrive in the area 15-30 Palia minutes before the start of its catch period and clear all the common critters/plants. This will make it more likely your rare will spawn when the clock chimes.
Inventory & House
Furniture does not take up inventory space!!
A gold star on an item's icon means it's "star quality." Starred items fetch higher sales prices and are required for some quests.
Starred items will not stack with normal items.
Only star quality food can be placed in your house/lot.
More storage chests = more storage slots, but you are capped at 8.
You can hang items on the exterior walls of your home - including wallpaper!!
When in placement mode, you can rotate items using Q and E. You can turn off “grid mode” by pressing z, which allows more flexible item placement.
Leveling
Your character level is a combination of your level in each of your skills.
Eating food increases your "focus," which applies a percentage bonus that will make you level faster.
You can increase that bonus by visiting the Dragon and Phoenix shrines and spending Renown to increase the percentage (Phoenix Shrine) and the amount of focus you can accumulate.
You can only "carry" 1,000 Renown at any time. If you're not spending it, you're throwing away Exp.
Renown is also needed to expand your housing plot (by buying "Writs").
Event
You can get "displayable" food from Reth and Delaila, but it's based on RNG. Just keep buying the item until you get a star quality one.
The quickest way to get Chapaa Chase tickets is by completing the Achievements; some require you to party with others.
The drums are not obvious, but you only need to go back and forth between a pair of them interacting as they light up. Eventually the big fireworks will trigger and you will get the achievement and reward. (Do this 2 more times for the second achievement!)
The event achievements are on the Event tab, not the achievements one.
Skill-Specific Tips
Fishing: If you don’t click in time and the fish disappears, don’t panic — the same fish will keep trying again! And if you change your mind, you can pull your line in/cancel and you won’t spend any bait. This means you can wait to be sure you’ve hooked the fish you want before reeling it in so you don’t waste all your precious glow worms! The one caveat is that sparkle pools (and the guaranty of a star quality catch) disappear if you don’t catch the fish on the first nibble.
Hunting: The Proudhorn Sernuk can teleport and the Azure Chapaa can make an illusion of copies of itself that disappear when shot. They're both very difficult to hunt until you learn to make Dispel arrows. If you’re still struggling to have enough resources for everything, learn the lowest quality arrow that can kill something in one shot and hunt with those. (Kilima chapaa can be killed with a makeshift arrow while regular Kilima sernuk require a standard arrow. Bahari chapaa need at least a standard arrow while elder sernuk in Bahari will cost you several fine arrows.)
Looting: For hunting, mining, and chopping down trees, everyone who gets one "hit" in gets loot, and the loot is not diminished by sharing. So working together to find pallium nodes or hunt rare critters rewards everyone. :) (Note that you need to have the required equipment quality to be able to share, though - if you get a message saying “sorry, you need to upgrade your equipment” then you won’t get any loot.)
Mining: On the topic of Palium, it’s not as rare as you think. It has very specific spawn points, which it only shares with stone - you’ll never find palium where you found iron before. This means you should mine all the stone sharing those points to encourage palium to spawn for your next visit. Palium can be found in the caves hidden around the perimeter of Bahari and in the Pavel mines.
Foraging: Purple glowing trees are flow trees, and require more than one player to chop them down. Again, everyone gets "full" loot, no matter how many people get a swing in. For small trees, let them heal after each hit if needed to make sure everyone present can get a hit. If you’re looking for a specific resource, say, sweet leaf, look up what it shares spawn points with (in this case, morels) and pick three as well so sweet leaf has a chance to spawn. Also, brightshrooms are typically found in ruins right up against the structures so they can be easy to overlook or mistake for glowing bugs at night.
Cooking: You can find recipes in villager's homes, by fishing them up in bottles, lying around the wilderness, and completing quests or bundles in addition to buying them from Reth.
Cooking together: Like with looting, everyone gets the full reward, even if you don't contribute any ingredients.
Lore & Fun Stuff
There is a mysterious beast in the Elderwoods.
The mine's haunted.
Sooo much queer rep: All the romanceable characters don’t care about the player’s “body type.” Sifuu, the Duchess (Kenyara), and Eshe are canonically wlw. Chayne was raised by two dads. The former lighthouse keepers in Bahari Bay were a gay couple. 🏳️‍🌈
Critters that have been mentioned but don't have in-game models or released concept art yet so we just have to speculate: ‣ Kitsuu: Sacred companions, according to Hassian. There is a kitsuu constellation which has "floppy ears" and horns. Possibly the "fennec fox with antlers" creature drawn in the Vault of the Waves? (Confirmed by the official Discord emotes!) No longer unreleased as of 0.3.6. :) ‣ Peki: Palian version of chickens, or at least they lay eggs and have feathers, and according to Nai’o “there are at least 72 unique color and pattern combinations for peki breeds.” ‣ Riffroc: Palian mounts. Nai'o has a beloved one named Sugarfoot; Kenyatta’s is named Sundrop.

Uncle B keeps saying "It's GRAPE to see you, Berry!" so I decided today, I was going to change up my colors. I have never seen someone ready to make a joke and then look so crestfallen so fast. I think he went through the stages of grief in about twenty seconds while his brain started back up, and then he said how sunny I looked.
It's a new, terrible joke, I'll take it.
Jina found me a Kamera! I don't think I'm the best at taking pictures, but she said I could use it to keep track of my home progress, same as this journal, so I'm going to give it a try.
It's been kind of a whirlwind, I've totally lost track of time again. Einar really likes shiny pebbles, and he started talking to me about Oneness. I don't really get it, but Jina said it's something programmed into beings like him and Hekla, and it's kind of like a Path? But the difference being is that people choose, and these guys didn't get to.
Feels kind of sad. It was kind of fun trying to understand it, but I don't really think Oneness is my thing to worry about. That, or I find it in my garden
Tumblr media
I am way too proud of it, for sure.
I picked up my third hallway piece today, but there's always so much to be distracting. Elouisa asked me to bug hunt, I had to catch crickets for Aunt Del (Seriously, auntie, you live next to a place called Leafhopper Hill, what were you expecting?) Maybe after I've relaxed a bit I'll go try and mine for stone and iron again, like I totally meant to do.
I wish Zeki would lower the backpack price though. Jeez. 5k for a bigger bag is wild, but I guess that's the way Grimalkin do business. Which. Rude. But I don't really have a choice.
Dad was having some trouble earlier too. Apparently he has a son! Who went into the military, and there was a kerfluffle about that, but he's trying to reach out now. I told him that owning up to his gaff was better than using the death of his wife against his son, and he agreed with me. Even said I was a good child!
Okay, I'm not a child, but heck it. I'm calling him Dad forever, even if not to his face.
Tumblr media
Aunt Del gave me a pie for helping her with the crickets, so I had some for dessert, and man, I wanna learn how to cook like she does! I just... don't have time. So much else to run around and do. And not enough hours in the day, it feels like.
Also, Uncle B keeps trying to sell me his fertilizer recipe, but like... if I go beachcombing for a few hours, and then drop all the oyster meat into my worm farm, I end up with more fertilizer than I know what to do with! So I don't know that I'll ever buy it from him. I did buy my better how and watering can though, and wow, that makes the garden a lot easier to work in. He's hinted something about apple trees and blueberry bushes--with the obligatory Berry related pun that I had to sigh about--but he says I need more experience with what I've got first.
Maybe once I can grow those, I'll get to make some pies!
I wish I didn't have to catch fish for the weird temple thing over by the farm. I am not good at it. No wonder it's not really my Oneness (sorry Einar). I think I almost had a thing, but then it snapped the line just before I could finish, and ugh, that's twice now with that dang thing. Bahari Bay fishing is hard...
Tumblr media
I did catch this guy though!
I decided against keeping it though. Angry little thing kept glaring at me, and I don't really have the space for pets yet anyways. So I sold it instead. Hopefully Auni got a kick out of seeing it in the shipping bin.
Oh, and Sifuu had me canvas town for opinions on what makes a good book. I have so many concerns for what she tries to write next. She's... well, got a lot of work ahead of her, I think.
I told Jina I'd send her little bits of mail for fun, so that she can practice reading ancient human. She was all for it, since our current dilemma with her puzzle door thing isn't going well. I keep going back and forth on whether the next answer is water, or like... the library. It seemed pretty straightforward at first, but now I'm not so sure.
Maybe once I've had some rest, I'll actually be able to go mine stone, iron, and see Najuma. Mayba Tamala too, but she kinda makes me uncomfy. Still, being that far out, she must want some visitors, right? Take another shot at getting those darn Bahari fish I need for sure, and comb the beach for as many oysters as I can get for my worms!
....man. That list seemed shorter in my head.
Oh, and I got a letter from my friend Lark!
Tumblr media
Heya Berry, Do you like soup? Please save me.
Let me explain- I got pretty tired of eating grilled mushrooms and fish for days, and Reth told me he'd give me more recipes once I got my cooking level up. But the only other thing I know how to make is soup. I'm not half bad at it, if I do say so myself, but at this point I've made so much of it that at this rate I'm gonna out-soup Soup Guy. I can't eat all this ramen myself, please save me from my soupffering. (I mean, I'll be fine. I ate mushrooms for a week, I can eat soup for a week. Buuut seriously. If you get a hankering for ramen, please come over)
Drowning in soup, -Ya pal Lark
Poor Lark! Maybe I should send some of the steak dinner I've learned how to make... Auntie Del might know how I can send that in the mail and not tip off Auni. I mean, her pie made it here intact, and he loves her pie!
I shall have to think about it. Hm.. Auni-proofing a steak...

Tumblr media
“Find a shepp,” you muttered to yourself with a sigh. It was hard enough trying to navigate this newfound world, let alone trying to find a shepp per Eshe’s request. Since spawning into this place they called Kilima Village, you had been thrown into task after task. How would you ever find the time to build relationships with the villagers if you were always busy? You decided that today you would take a break from being the errand girl for everyone and instead would meet everyone you could find in hopes that you would find someone who would be willing to be your shepp. Up until now, you had only briefly spoken to most of the town, but no one knew you well enough to be your shepp just yet.
As you came into town, you assumed that Ashura would probably have wise words of advice on the fact of the matter. Hurrying along, you walked into the inn to find Ashura at his desk.
“Hey, Ashura!” you said cheerily as you approached him. The large, gentle giant softly smiled. “Welcome in, y/n! Good to see you today. How are things going for ya?” he asked.
“Honestly? Well, I need some advice. You know this place, and the people, better than anyone, so I was going to see if you have any tips for me on picking a shepp?”
“A shepp? So that’s what Eshe has you doing, I see. Well, many of the townsfolk would be more than happy to be a shepp- but,” he gave you a look, “asking them to be your own comes with a lot of responsibility on their part. You don’t want just anyone to be your shepp, and it should be someone you feel close to or have a connection with.”
“Responsibility? Eshe didn’t really explain much of all this to me. I thought they just told Eshe ‘Yep, she’s one of us!’ and that was it.”
Ashura chuckled. “In a way, yes, that is what they do. But their job as your shepp doesn’t stop there. They’re responsible for you, so anything you do- whether that’s good or bad- reflects upon them, too. Likewise, anything they do can also affect your own standing in Eshe’s eyes, if you get what I mean.”
“Oh… so we are kinda tied to each other’s social standing?” The wheels in your head began to turn. Who would you choose as your shepp then? It seemed the task wasn’t going to be as easy as you once thought it’d be.
“Yes, at least in the beginning it will be. But once you’re on your feet, most of us will forget who you picked as your shepp and there won’t be a little red string tying you guys together anymore. But don’t just rush into it, you’ve got all the time you need to pick someone who best fits you and your lifestyle. I know you aren’t Majiri like us, but maybe figuring out what path you like can help you narrow down your candidates.”
“Path. That’s right! A lot of you guys have your own path, so maybe I should find one I could call my own as well. Thanks, Ashura! I knew you’d be a big help for sure.”
“Oh, it’s nothing. It’s what I’m here for, of course. Kilima Village has a pretty good variety of those in different paths, there is a path for everyone- from farming, furniture making, to cooking-  you’ll figure it out.” Ashura placed a hand on your shoulder and gave a soft smile before walking past you to go about his day.
There is a path for everyone. Surely someone in this town had a path you could find yourself in, you just had to figure out who it was. As you stood there, racking your brain through the makeshift list of names in your head, you heard the rumbling coming from your stomach. You had been so immersed in your search for finding a shepp today that you forgot to make yourself something to eat. You looked around the inn, seeing the bar open for business.
“What’cha got on the menu today, Reth?” you asked as you put your hands on the counter. The elf playfully contemplated his response, acting as if he was thinking long and hard about it. “Well, I would say my famous lettuce soup, but I’d be willing to whip up something different if you wanted,” he said with a smirk.
“As much as I love your lettuce soup, I don’t think I can have that for breakfast. How about some bacon-stuffed mushrooms? What do I have to do to get some of those on your menu?” you laughed. Reth was someone who was fun to talk to, in your opinion. You knew that the rest of the town had their own opinions about him, but none of it mattered to you. You enjoyed how go with the flow he was and how he always seemed to take each day one at a time.
“You know what, for you, I can make those. Just don’t tell people I make stuff off the menu.” He winked and turned around to start prepping the food. As you watched him chop the ingredients and assemble your meal, you wondered what his thoughts were on paths and choosing a shepp. “Reth, what do you think I should do about finding a shepp? Ashura said I should find someone who’s on a path that I can find myself in, but I don’t even know where to start.”
Reth scoffed to himself. “You sure you want to ask me about paths and shepps? I don’t think I’m really the best one to give you any advice on that, y/n. But if you wanna know how I feel, I think that these paths people take just because their parents do is a little outdated of an idea. I think what Ashura means is finding a path that you like, that you enjoy doing. You lucked out being human, even if you changed your mind, no one is really gon’ say much about it.” His tone changed towards the end of his sentence.
“Yeah, so I’ve heard. The Majiri don’t seem too understanding if you change paths… but I’m sure you know it all too well, but I’m glad you’re doing something you like.”
“Me too, this stuff is way more fun than getting splinters all day and hammering away on furniture,” he said as he put the plate of bacon-stuffed mushrooms in front of you. The food looked immaculate, you could tell it was made by someone who truly loved what they were doing.
Hey, Reth,” you said quietly as you started to cut the food into pieces. Reth turned around and wiped his hands on his apron. “Yeah? What’s up? It’s not good? Don’t tell me that, just lie to me,” he snickered.
“No, no. It’s not the food, this is good, great even,” you said as you finished a bite. “Do you think, maybe, you would be my shepp?”
Reth looked astounded by the question. “What?! ME ?! Y/N, I wouldn’t even know what to do with myself as a shepp. Maybe if I knew you better, but even then, you sure you want me to be that person? I don’t really have the best reputation in the village.”
You pushed the food around on the plate, almost feeling stupid for even thinking he’d agree to something so serious. It wasn’t like Reth to be tied to anything, let alone a new person in the village who was asking a lot of him. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have asked. You’re probably right,” you said quietly.
Reth leaned on the counter and met your eye level. “Look, if it comes down to it and you still don’t have someone, then I’ll do it. But there’s gotta be someone way better out there for your decision than this guy. But I will do it if no one else will-”
“Really?!” you exclaimed, cutting him off. Reth put up his index finger. “Yeah, but on one condition,” he chuckled. “You just have to promise to keep coming into the inn and having breakfast, lunch, and dinner here for a while before I really agree to it. I gotta know the person I’m shepping for before saying yes for real, don’t I?”
You rolled your eyes playfully. “You know what, Reth. I think I can do that, but only if you promise me you won’t make me lettuce soup every time I come in.” Reth laughed heartily at your response and nodded his head in approval. “Fine, you got a deal.” He made his way to the other side of the counter to take someone else’s order and began prepping their food for them.
It was hard not to watch in awe as he prepared the orders he had coming in. He was meticulous with his cuts and attentive to all timers in the kitchen, basically ready to take stuff out before the timers could even go off. It was like watching an artist paint a masterpiece as he plated the food and garnished it before passing it across the counter. As you continued to watch, you admired how much fun it looked like he had cooking. Finally, you finished your food.
“Reth,” you called to him as you placed your coins on the counter. “For the food.” You got off the seat and waved goodbye. “See ya later, Y/N! I’ll be here all day,” he laughed as he waved back. You left the inn in a better state than you came in, at least you knew that if all else failed with the rest of the town, Reth had promised to be your shepp.
ɞ────⋆˚₊⋆ ๑
The coming weeks didn’t bring any result in picking a shepp. Everyone was either too busy to commit to it or didn’t feel right with your relationship being so new with them. You walked into the inn and sat at the bar, laying your head in your arms and letting out a long sigh.
“Hey, hey, hey. This is a ‘no-sad-human-zone’, you can’t do that here,” Reth said as he leaned on the counter in front of you, resting his head in his palm. “Ughhh,” you groaned dramatically. “Wow, that bad, huh? I bet I know what will fix it.” He snapped his finger and walked into the back of the bar where the pantry and other cooking supplies were at. A few moments later, you could feel him put down a plate of food on the counter beside you. “This one’s on the house,” he said as you raised your head up to look at what he brought out. It was a fresh bowl of ramen, complete with boiled eggs and green onions on top. Reth leaned over and whispered to you. “Just don’t tell anyone I let you have it for free, okay?” He winked and grabbed a cleaning rag to start wiping off the counter.
You appreciated the sentiment, especially coming from Reth since you two were starting to grow a little closer after all the visits you had promised to make to the inn. “Reth, what do you do outside of this place?” Reth paused for a moment, a little confused by the question. “You mean like once I leave work? Uh… I do…. stuff, I guess.” His tone implied he wasn’t really trying to answer the question, but you couldn’t pinpoint why.
“Well, are you going somewhere when you’re done today?” you asked, not really sure where you were going with the series of questions.
“I have a few things I have to do later tonight, but nothing right after we close up here. Why? You tryin' to ask me to hangout?” He chuckled and kept wiping the counter.
“Actually, yeah. Do you want to?” You were still unsure yourself what was even going on, but the conversation just seemed to flow naturally. You did want to know more about Reth after all this time, and he did say he needed to know you more before officially agreeing to be your shepp. Short conversations over a meal while he worked weren’t really the best way for you two to get to know each other.
“Oh, uh,” Reth said, scratching the back of his head and smiling. “I didn’t expect you to actually say that was the plan. But ya know what, I think we can do that. Why don’t you come back later at say, 6pm? I’ll be finishing up here and we can go somewhere then. How’s that sound?”
“Sure, that sounds good. Thanks, Reth.” You started to eat your food as you noticed Reth checking the clock on the wall. “I’ll be right back, I have to.. Get a few things from the storeroom.” Reth scurried off out of the bar and rushed down the stairs to the basement area. After a few minutes, you felt a large hand on your shoulder. You turned to see Ashura standing beside you, he looked like he needed something.
“Have you seen Reth? I got a few things I need to talk to that boy about, but he’s always in and out doing things,” he said.
“He just had to go to the storeroom for something, but when he gets back I can let him know that you need him?” You gave a shrug as you suggested.
“Yeah, that’ll work. Thanks, Y/N. I have to head out to the garden, but he should know where to find me.” He gave a sincere smile and left the inn. You looked up at the clock. Reth had been gone for at least 10 minutes. What on earth does he have to even get down there? And what about his job? Luckily, the bar wasn’t full of people waiting on him, but what if it was? He would be in high water with Ashura come the end of the day, and you definitely didn’t want to see if that sweet man was capable of bringing down the hammer.
You glanced around the bar; it didn’t look like anyone was coming to get food anytime soon so you decided to go downstairs to see if Reth needed help with whatever it was he was getting. You got up from the bar and made your way down the steps of the inn. It was your first time down there, but the store room was just across the room past the little boat docks under the inn. As you grabbed the door handle, you felt it turn and pull open as Reth left the storeroom. “Oh! Uh.. Y/N, what are you doing down here?” he asked nervously.
“Well, you were gone for so long, I thought maybe you needed some help or something. And plus, Ashura said he was looking for you.” Reth let out a groan. “Yeah, I forgot I have some errands I have to run tonight for him. He’s probably just reminding me.” He let out a soft sigh under his breath. “We may have to reschedule our little hangout tonight, if that’s alright.”
“Yeah, that’s fine…,” you said. The two of you sat awkwardly in silence for a moment before you broke it. “Maybe I can help you with some of the errands so you get done early?” Reth’s face lit up at the offer. “Hey! That just might work.” He snapped his fingers. “How about you do a few of the deliveries and pick up some things, and I’ll take care of the rest? I promise the deliveries aren’t that bad, just a handful of things to take and pick up.”
His bright smile made you smile as well. “Sure, you just tell me where to go.” Reth pulled out his order pad and wrote down the people to deliver to and who to pick up ingredients from. “There, that should be it. Eshe’s stuff’s all done, just upstairs in the back fridge. You’d be a real lifesaver doing this for me.”
You took the list and walked back upstairs with Reth. He led you into the back kitchen area and got the delivery package out of the fridge and handed it to you. “Careful with it, it’s a luxury to deliver this special dinner of mine to Eshe. Gotta deliver it safely or it’s both our hides that’ll be skinned,” he chuckled. “And just let the others know you’re picking up for me, they should have the stuff ready for you. Thanks again.” He bashfully smiled, something you hadn’t really seen before, but it was endearing. “No problem, I’ll be back before long,” you said before you left the inn.
Eshe’s delivery was your first priority, so you made your way across the bridge down from the stables and found her waiting, impatiently to no surprise. “Hey, Eshe! Have something for you,” you said as you pulled the package out and offered it to her. You watched Eshe look at the package and then back up at you before taking it. “So Reth has you doing his job for him? Hmph, seems fitting. This better be what I’ve been waiting for, not like that awful lettuce soup he pushes every time you order at the inn.”
“He doesn’t have me doing them, I offered to just help him out. I’m sure the food he made is well up to par; he really puts in a lot of work into his food, ya know,” you said assuredly. Eshe scoffed at your reply and tucked the package under her arm. “For his sake, I hope it is. If not, he will surely hear about it.” She walked off towards her house and left you standing there alone.
“These people really feel some type of way about him, don’t they?” you mumbled to yourself.

my not-necessarily-romance opinions on all the romanceable palia villagers in no particular order:
Elinar. Bruh I want to get to know you but I suck at fishing. So theoretically we should spend more time together but you just keep calling me fascinating and tipping your hat. I'm not trying to flirt. I NEED legitimate help.
Nai'o. Good manners. Supposedly hard working but we all know you are slackalackin' and just taking your shirt off for the ladies. Do the math, we know who you're showing off for, and it ain't me.
Tish. City girl that came to the country. So sweet. Please come over and decorate my house. I mean that in the most wholesome of ways.
Reth. What can I say? He's at soup. Funny, charming. Can't sleep because he either has a shady job on the side or he killed a man. Maybe both. Also I was really hoping "Reth" was short for something like Rethignald or whatever.
Jel. Living under crushing expectations and secret insomniac. Gotta check our compatibility chart because idk if I mesh well with the youngest sibling of SIX. He's my type tho. And Fashion? Yes. We talk every day about the crushing existential dread for sure.
Jina. She's the first person you meet! I LOVE her! Left her family in the pursuit of knowledge and I respect that. Also as a fellow mushroom fanatic, I could see us chillin' together.
Hassian. Mn. Yeah. So. First of all Rude. Second of all Rude. But all the juicy gossip and lore from his mom and others makes me want to get to know him, and also the fact that he's an archer. I need my bow and arrows ok, nobody else is selling these recipes. Kinda want to punch him in the face tho (affectionate).
Kenyatta. Girl you need help, but that's okay. We all do. Secretly well read if only because there was nothing better to do which I can respect. Let's go egg your house together.
Hodari. Ok. Look. I legally can not romance this man even if I wanted to. That's my dad?? Like so many aspects of his backstory from being a single father to the back pain. Y'all might want that but I'm built different.
Tamala. Have y'all met her? Amazing in theory, but long distance in practice. She don't even get mail from Auni. IDK how we are even supposed to make it work if she can't be bothered to come to town. This is a two-way street lady.

Some additional snapshots of my time with Palia so far.
- Hodari mentioning how Najuma’s mother had a fiery temper/hair. Me (a redhead): So what I’m hearing is you like redheads….
- A pro tip: you do not always need other people for flow trees. It’s polite to call them out, but sometimes it’s a super small tree and with the iron axe you can outpace the healing yourself. It will only give like 2-3 flow wood though.
- The devs mentioned a few times that you do not have to engage with all of the mechanics if you don’t want to and there are built in ways to work around requirements. I personally feel this is misleading because there is a main story quest that requires you to turn in rare fish/bugs/etc. And there are several skills you have to level up to be able to get those things. I am just now at the point where I can grow the bait needed to get those last rare fish. And at least from what I’ve seen on the requests you can only request items that you’ve already obtained once.
- Speaking of requests there is a quest that asks you to fulfill five player requests. Since so many people are joining and we’re all hitting these early quests, I try to use my request slots for easy things other players can give to meet that quest requirement. Just a thing to consider in the spirit of community playing.
- I love Kenyatta and Nai’o’s little fling they got going on. It’s cute. I had considered doing all of the romances just to see all the storylines, but I kind of don’t want to break them up. Maybe I’ll leave them alone until I’m in the mood to cause some drama.
- The furniture building is the most frustrating part for me so far. Chair is pictured with a cute cushion. Build it. No cushion. Bookcase is pictured filled with books and has little drawers on the bottom. Build it. No books, no drawers. 🤬 I’m losing my mind. I feel like I’m wasting resources building things because they don’t look like the picture.
- I do also sometimes find hunting frustrating but that’s because I like to set up my shot slowly more like a sniper and most people are running all over the map treating it like an fps game and spooking all the sernuks. I just try to move to the less traveled areas when that happens; it’s just a difference in play style. Though there was one person doing that who I swear followed me all over the Kilima map once.
- I am once again asking for romanceable Hodari. Let me open this man up to the terrifying vulnerability of loving someone again. It would even make in-game sense to lock it behind max friendship. I’d be fine with it! Hell, lock it behind max friendship with his daughter too. That’s how much I want it. (I also would not turn up my nose at an opportunity to romance Sifuu. I love a buff lady.)

Let’s discover the Frigatula together🕷⚡! That spider looks actually cute, doesn’t it? 🥰
Frigatula will protect her bellysack at all cost.
Her sack contains an enormous amount of concentrated energy.
She produces it naturally and stores it inside her sack.
She can produce web by depletign it or use the energy to feed and store her eggs if she is inseminated by a male🕸
If the sack gets too big, she just releases it and starts building up a new one, regardless of whether it contains eggs or not.
She can attack if threatened by releasing electricity for any of her legs tips.

Palia: Epic Fishing
I don’t know if Palia’s Epic Fish are like the Legendaries in Stardew Valley, but I caught one today when I landed a Swordfin Eel. It tipped me over the edge to bring my fishing skill to 10. Now I can do the weekly challenges and start earning those medals. I wish it had been a display-worthy fish, but at least I got a bronze trophy.
Other than my marathon to raise my skill, I spent most of my gaming time working on my house and adding more rooms. I watched a YouTube video that had several cool layout ideas and saw two that were interesting. I decided to steal both layouts and combine them. Once the construction is finished, I can start decorating.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In other news, I finally got to play with a friend. Sam, who was a regular visitor to my island in Animal Crossing, came to visit. He was looking super fabulous in his fairy outfit. We goofed around on my lot and then went out to Bahari Bay again for more fishing. Being partied up with him earned me 30 fishing medals for a challenge called Fishing Together. Very cool.
We returned to my lot when one of the new rooms was nearly ready. Sam was hopping up and down on the construction platform when the walls suddenly popped into existence around him. I’m glad it didn’t boot him from the server or crash the game.
We also did some cooking in my kitchen. I made steaks and bacon-wrapped mushrooms. Having Sam there was handy because he could grab the pan and give things a flip while I was working at the oven. We each received the food in our inventories, which is great incentive to cook together.

Palia was SO cozy last night. It’s definitely going to become my game. The world was so pretty! The cast was great(I was like do I want to romance them? How about them? Hassian, I think, I’m going to work my way under his skin cause god he’s so fucking attractive and I don’t even say this about people much less characters but god is Hassian attractive and his attitude makes me want to break down his walls. But I know you can romance multiple people and from streams I know Einar is so… I’m so fond of Einar so maybe Hassian and Einar? My sun and my moon?) and the mechanics aren’t bad at all. I didn’t fish but I’m sure it’s not bad if everything else was great(There was SO MUCH to do)
Hunting actually isn’t that bad??? And I’m REALLY good at bug catching. I left it overnight crafting planks and bricks for my house and as soon as I woke up I logged on to start the 8 hour house build.
I’m so glad I watched streams though I know so many tips and tricks for early game. I was asking people about gifts from our first conversation.
I think I need to rebind a LOT of stuff though. The keybinding isn’t that great and I really want to have my tools binded to something so I can quickly get out my bow and arrow or my bug bombs. I’ll probably do those on my numpad. Also the number of early game quests was a bit overwhelming tbh.
All in all I’m so excited to play today(Why did I make lunch plans? Cause you weren’t in beta and you need him and you’re falling apart and you need him. I’m joking. Lunch with him>>>>>Palia)
(Also my blog can attest I never thirst over anyone so the way Hassian is evoking that part of my mind is very odd.)

Palia anon again !!
ahhhh thank you sm!!!!!! : D about to get on and play a bit so i will add yall <3333
im finishing up the sort of tutorial quests where you learn how to use all the tools(playing sooo slow bc i also just started hyperfixating on Stardew Valley so playing lots of that again heh) so i haven’t run into a ton of characters yet
but !!! i know for sure i will wanna romance jina she is freaking perfect :’)))<333 tish also seems rlly sweet and is very much my aesthetic lol i can’t wait to meet more of them !!!
theres sooo many fun quests after the tutorial!! my biggest tip when playing is try to climb everything. once u get the glider also try to glide anywhere u cant directly climb! ull find tons of chests & hidden areas!! also if u see vines, climb. if u see ivy, run up against it bc often theres a hidden area behind it!! ive been playing for months & im still finding new stuff i havent seen before!
also also!! read everything that gives u a prompt to read it! sometimes its just something funny, sometimes ull get food recipes, sometimes u get quests!
jina is perfect ur so right- romancing her is sm fun shes so cute when u flirt w her!! also tish is super sweet!! tip for her: she likes any flowers u bring her! i like to bring her sundrop lilies or crystal lake lotuses :) sometimes briar daisies to switch things up
OH BTW u cant romance someone til ur lv 3 friendship w them! theyll turn u down until then. also u cant give them heartdrop lilies until ur lv 3 either bc its purely a romance gift (i made the mistake of giving jel one at lv 2 bc i didnt know that & he was like "thats waaaay too forward idk u like that" lmao)

My First Week in India
Tumblr media
October 12, 2017 marked my very first week in India. But before I go any further, please let me tell you guys about something that I have been feeling since I enrolled myself in this particular program. Honestly, I never expected that I would go this far in this Program Pemuda Magang Luar Negeri (PPMLN). For when I submitted the required documents for the application, I was full of doubt.
I wasn't so sure whether my medical checkup paper would meet the criteria of the committee or not. I also wasn't so sure whether they would accept the fact that I didn't have my student card, as I had given it to my department for the graduation requirement, nor that I had my diploma, because I hadn't had my graduation ceremony by the time the enrollment date was over. But hey, here I am!
Maybe I will tell you about my very first step in this journey up to the day where I and the other 136 participants were gathered at the Wisma Soegondo Djojopoespito, Cibubur. But not for now, of course.
My Indian journey started on October 4, 2017 where Eka, Wahid, and I had to fly from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to the Singapore Changi Airport. There wasn't any non-stop flight from Jakarta to Lucknow, so we had to use the "shortest" flight possible there was, which was provided by Scoot Airlines. Despite being the shortest, we still had to transit for a long 17h 30m in Singapore before we could eventually fly to Lucknow.
So fly we did with the Scoot; and with only 1h 40m flight, we arrived at Singapore Changi Airport. We were planning to meet our friends, Darwin and Ocy, who would go to Delhi, and Fidel and Galuh, who would go to Mumbai, in Changi. However, as their flight was scheduled on 11.15 am in the morning, and at around 9 am, while we were still eating, they all had queued for the early boarding, we realised that we couldn't get the plan done.
Tumblr media
We decided to join the Free Singapore Tour provided as the airport facility. The tour was scheduled from 11.30 am to 2.00 pm. Long short story, we went on the bus, visited the Esplanade, saw Marina Bay Sands and Merlion from far away, and went to Haji Lane. We didn't forget to take pictures, of course. After we went there, we decided to have lunch and then prepared before our departure to Lucknow.
Our boarding was delayed a little bit because some of the passengers were very stubborn. They insisted to take liquid–more than 100 mL–to the cabin. It made the flight security furious. But eventually they were all could be tamed. The 5h 25m flight was okay. Nothing really special. We finally arrived at the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport at around 7 pm local time.
There was a memorable thing happened upon my arrival there. The custom security were trying to match my fingerprints with the data on the computer, but it kept saying unrecognisable, no matter which finger I put on the scanner. All of the security guards were surrounding me like I was a criminal, asking "Did you use your fingers for typing too much or did you put something on it?", which came to my refusal as didn't do any of that things.
Turned out, the fingerprint scanner was in the wrong direction. The tip of the finger should be put near the side that was connected to the cable. As it as "one-finger-only-scanner", we might get confused which side should be place where. So yeah. When the other guard found it out and the computer said "recognisable" or something, we all laughed together. Eka and Wahid had to wait me for 5 minutes before we could eventually get our luggage and went out from the airport.
Outside, we were waited by the AIESEC members of Lucknow. There were Manpreet, Apoorva, and Divanshi.
The first impression that I got after I arrived at Lucknow, or India in general, was the fact that it was sooo hot. It was night and autumn but we still can feel the heat. There was also this "habit" of Indian people who love to honk, no matter how the road situation is, which made me a shock for quite a while because the honk was so loud and it hurt my ears. It has been a week now that I am in India, but I still got surprised every time a car is honking, loudly. The other thing that I found was that the city, is not as clean as I had expected. Clearly we also had this trash-everywhere-issue in Indonesia, but here, it was, somehow, dirtier.
Tumblr media
From the airport, we went to Masood and Amarah's home, where we would be spending the night. Wahid and I were staying at Masood's, while Eka was staying at Amarah's. We all had our first Indian food in India that night, on October 5, 2017. Wahid and I had chai (Indian tea), chakli, and aloo bhujia at Masood's home (above). Then Masood took us to eat parata and kebab at Tunday Kababi (below), while Eka had dinner with Amarah's family.
Tumblr media
The next day, Wahid and I had our first Friday prayer at the mosque near Masood's home. The sermon was delivered in Arabic, which I didn't understand at all. After that, the three of us had the Incoming Preparatory Seminar, presented by Amarah. After that, we went to Bara Imambara (featured image), a famous palace unit in Lucknow. I will probably post pictures of our short visit to the site in the near future, we’ll see. After that, we went home to Masood's and Amarah's home and we prepared to go to Sampurna Nagar.
We were picked up by the school manager, Mr. Guramneet, who will be getting married on October 22, but still allocating his time to pick us up from Lucknow. We said goodbye and gave hugs to Manpreet and Amarah, Masood was going out somewhere so we couldn't say a proper goodbye, and then we hopped into the car. The trip took us about 5 hours from Lucknow to Sampurna Nagar.
On the way we were heading to Sampurna Nagar, we were surprised by so many things. First, the highway was not exclusively designed for cars. There were people, bikers, motorbikers, and even cows on it. I didn't see that coming. That was one of our shocking moment while we were here. On the road I also noticed that the railroad here is slightly wider than that of Indonesia.
After almost 5 hours of driving, we stopped at the pizzaria in Palia Kalan, the neighbouring city of Sampurna Nagar. We had pizza as our supper before we continued our tiring journey to the school.
We arrived at around 11 pm local time. Eka had her own room while Wahid and I had to share the room together. It was actually different from what was said on the interview that we would be getting one room for each, but they said that the new building is currently on the making, so for the time being, Wahid and I had to share the room. We slept and had some rests.
Tumblr media
The next day, we had bread plus jam and another chai for breakfast (above). The chai was slightly different from that we had in Lucknow, but it was still delicious. After that, we had the our time of looking around the school. We went to each of the classes and the were introduced to all of the teachers there.
In the afternoon, we went shopping to Palia Kalan. Basically we bought toiletries and some stuffs (below). We were bought a stove by the school shopkeeper, Paramjeet Ma'am, and the school chairman, Mr. Gurkirpal. We also bought 3 SIM cards after previously we had to struggle without the internet connection for more than 24h. There were a lot of messages. We replied each one of them on our way home to the school.
Tumblr media
But after a few hours, the balance was perished. We didn't buy the internet package because Paramjeet Ma'am said that the card would enable us to use the school WiFi, which it did. But as the WiFi only covered a small area of the school and the signal didn't reach our room. So for the first few days, we had to go near the front office only to be connected to the internet.
On Tuesday, eventually, Paramjeet Ma'am bought the three of us internet package. It offered 3GB/day for 56 days, but as the connection signal was and still is only the Edge, we couldn't do much with the amount of the quota. Well at least, we have had our own connection without have to go to the front office. But sometimes, if we wanted to have a better internet connection, we all sat together near the office and enjoyed the WiFi.
We are now passing our 8th day here and we are pretty sure that India still has a lot more things to be discovered. We had this plan, prior to the departure, of visiting some famous places here, like Taj Mahal, Kashmir, the Indonesian Embassy, etc. We also had the plan to join some of the celebrations here, like Diwali, that will be coming on October, 19, and Holi, in March 2018.
As our place is very near from the India-Nepal border, only 7 km away, we had also planned to visit the neighbouring country, should we have the opportunity. Those all are the plans we have had. Whether it will come to fruition or not, we still don't know. One thing for sure is, no matter how we feel and what we might encounter every day, we will always be there to support each other.
I think that would be enough for now. I'm sorry if the story is too scrambled somehow. But well, I finally manage to write them down, just as I promised. Hope you like it. Thank you!
