Wonder

I finally finished my last art trade (sorry for the wait) for the amazing @palindromekomori of her oc Wonder, sporting Des’din’s vallaslin (designed by @selenelavellan). I had loads of fun drawing Wonder!

Apparently they turned down the frame rate for the Dragon Prince to better imitate traditional animation. Clearly that fell short, but it at least explains why high action scenes flow better motion wise than others. But I’m like you, I’ve never been a fan of this animation style.

Oh, that’s a shame. I assumed it was a monetary issue, that it was a conscious choice is...disappointing.

Like if you want traditional animation, do traditional animation. Netflix pumped it out for Lego Elves, and Voltron’s been a huge hit, it’s not like they don’t have experience with the style.

I hope moving forward they push the style more. If you’re gonna make the choice; embrace it. Don’t try to emulate something else, look at what your medium is capable of and what makes it unique and Own it.

Sure thing! We had to hold her tight tonight to remove some mats that had formed on the backs of her legs. She’s so fluffy that she even sometimes has trouble reaching some places. But she knew we were helping her, so she’s been snuggly the rest of the night. She’s good now though!

Btw, I keep thinking about Eda in the Melon'din AU and how precious her and Melarue would be. Also just thinking about the perfect version of that universe where she could just be raised as Falon'din's daughter and ALRHGLAHRGKAHRLGUARHGLAUHRG. I sketched something on the plane but didn't save the freaking file! I'm so mad! It was adorable.

Oh no! Goodbye, lost sketch. We shall miss you. XD I understand though, I’ve had that happen as well. 

Mel and Eda being an adorable family gives me life. The perfect version of that universe would be great and full of wonderful times for...pretty much everyone, really. Except the really crappy evanuris, but we don’t really care if they have a good time, do we?

And speaking of art for the Melon’Din AU...I need to actually finish that picture of Mel and Eda.

Could you please do some Uthvir/Eda cuddles? This entire Frat AU where they die really has Eda upset. I'm working on the most depressing response and I need something adorable to level it out.

Uthvir is a little surprised that Eda warms up to them as quickly as she does.

They know she likes and trusts Thenvunin. But they also know that they are little more than a stranger to her. And whatever kind of recommendation being Thenvunin’s spouse grants them, they do not expect her to trust them straight away, or be comfortable with their presence. They’re not exactly a comforting sort of figure, after all, and people... people have done more than enough to teach Eda mistrust.

So the first time she climbs up onto the sofa next to them, wrapped up in one of Kel’s comforters, they do their best to be quiet and unassuming. Their laptop is on their knees, and they’ve turned the television onto the ambient music channel that always gets Virevas down for the count for her nap. The indistinct sounds of dragons nesting fills the living room. Their youngest is snug and sound in her soft playpen, with her favourite blanket and doll clutched to her chest.

Eda shuffles up onto the couch. Not taking the side cushion, She makes her way onto the middle one, and blinks up at Uthvir. She’s been with them for a few weeks, now. Uthvir has brought her meals and woken her up in the morning a few times, but they’ve largely let Thenvunin be the one to go to her at night. Still, sometimes she comes into their room of her own accord, and she’s shaken them awake as often as not.

Uthvir generally assumed she just had troubled remembering who was on which side of the bed.

“Are you alright, kiddo?” they check, softly. She doesn’t seem to be afraid, at least.

Eda nods. Still not big on speaking. She glances at their laptop, and then makes a questioning little gesture. She doesn’t have her chalkboard with her, but after the second time she does it, Uthvir figures it out anyway.

“I’m not working,” they tell her. “Just sending an e-mail to one of my friends.”

Virevas rolls over in her playpen, and they quiet down, then. Not wanting to disturb her. Eda scoots a little closer, seemingly satisfied with that answer, and then leans against their shoulder. Thenvunin and Kel are out doing the weekly shopping. They suppose, with a lack of alternatives, that if she’s looking for some kind of comfort...

Well.

However surprised they might be at her choice, Uthvir is certainly not going to deny her.

They drop an arm around her, and it earns them a sigh. Eda squeezes easily into the space against their side, blanket and all. Bundled up and definitely cute, with a few tufts of hair sticking out here and there, and only the tops of her cheeks and her nose visible past the soft fabric of the comforter. She has her frog with her, too, Uthvir sees. They venture a gentle rub over the side of her arm, and her eyes begin to droop shut. 

“Did you have nightmares again last night?” they wonder, quietly.

Eda lets out a breath, and then a tiny nod.

“You didn’t come get anyone,” they note.

She fiddles with the blanket, and shrugs. And they think they understand. Though she obviously hasn’t said as much, they know she worries about interfering with their rest too often. Uthvir is often already awake, even if they are in bed - sometimes they read while Thenvunin sleeps - but they consider. They’ve been letting Thenvunin handle it, because they assumed that would be easiest for Eda. But perhaps that sent the wrong message...?

“Any time you need, you can come and find me,” they tell her. “I don’t need nearly so much sleep as Thenvunin does.”

Eda blinks up at them, and manages a little smile. She looks faintly embarrassed. But embarrassment - however unneeded - strikes them as something of an improvement over general malaise and grief and despair.

They pat her head, and shift their laptop a bit more, so that it’s not in the way if she decides she wants to move closer. And after a moment, it seems she does.

“I’m looking after you, too,” they promise. “Because I want to. You’re one of my girls now.”

Eda closes a hand against their shirt, and presses her face to them. And then she sags in unexpected relief.

Uthvir finds it wholly unexpected.

But not the least little bit unwelcome.

Waiting on my friend to binge Witcher with me, but I've already played the games, so I fully embrace the memes, and omg the ballad of the fucking year. I'm belting it out in the shower, y'all: Toss a COIN TO YOUR WITCHER! O VALLEY OF PLENTY!

Favorite OC:  Ok so I wrote this weird fantasy/scifi that has yet to see the light of day haha. Chaotic good elf with the ability to jump between realms. It's a very indulgent amalgam of everything I love most about both genres, and unlike most of the things I write (smuuuuttt!), it actually has the skeleton of a plot rattling around in it.

Sparkling water, tea or coffee: Every day I try to drink more green tea, but I have that "worship coffee, the dark lord" shirt, so my true allegiance is known to all.
