Ang Wikang Filipino ay Wika ng Akademiya.
Tumblr media

I don’t know a thing about rhythmic gymnastics, but I saw this on my Facebook feed and thought you might like it @www98vikitoo. (I was gonna send this to your inbox, but your asks are closed… and I’m not sure if you can view the video without logging into FB first, so I’m just posting it here)
This is from Palarong Pambansa (National Games) in the Philippines. I couldn’t find the girl’s name anywhere, but apparently she’s only an elementary student and had won the competition for the elementary level last year (according to a comment under the video).

Happy birthday to Manuel Luis Quezon, the second president of the Philippines! Born on this day on the 19th of August 1878.
You may have recognized him from my first post about him about his contribution to save 1300 Jews from the Holocaust, but did you know he's also the "Ama ng Wikang Pambansa?"
This is because he thought of a language to unite a nation. Take note that the Philippines has many dialects from many provinces. Because of this, he created the "Surian ng Wikang Pambansa" (today's "Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino"). From there, they had a choice of 8 dialects, mga pangunahing wika, namely Cebuano, Waray, Ilokano, Hiligaynon, Bikolano, Kapampangan, Pangasinense, and Tagalog.
They went with Tagalog. On November 17, 1937, Kautusang Tagapagpaganap Blg. 134 was implemented, "na ang Wikang Pambansa ay ibabatay sa Tagalog."
Quezon's contributions to our national language are still celebrated and honored today, as the whole month of August celebrates "Buwan ng Wika."

LOOK: Multisectoral groups marched along Commonwealth Avenue earlier today as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. delivered his third State of the Nation Address (SONA) at the Batasang Pambansa to assail his failed promise of a Bagong Pilipinas [trans. New Philippines]. For the groups, Marcos’s Bagong Pilipinas is a grand sham. Amid promises of better living conditions, 46 percent of Filipinos rated their families as food poor—the highest since 2008—according to the latest survey of Social Weather Stations. “[H]inaharap [ng ating mga kababayan] ang realidad na mataas ang presyo ng mga bilihin, lalo na ng pagkain—lalo’t higit, ng bigas,” said Marcos in his speech earlier, affirming bleak realities on the ground. On top of a cost of living crisis are poverty wages that fail to meet the family living wage of P1,190, as estimated by economic think tank IBON Foundation, the P35 wage hike in the National Capital Region (NCR) enacted last week was dismissed as an “insult to minimum wage workers” by Leticia Castillo of human rights alliance Defend NCR. Such wage hike is far from the P150 raise being lobbied in Congress by labor groups under the National Wage Coalition. Castillo also decried the persistence of red-tagging and vilification of activists perpetrated by the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict. From July 2022 to June 2024, 3,419,044 cases of threat, harassment, and intimidation were recorded by human rights group Karapatan. The number of political prisoners also climbed to 755 as of last month. These human rights violations run contrary to Marcos’s establishment of a Special Committee on Human Rights, which was labeled “toothless” by Human Rights Watch. Marcos’s claim of a bloodless drug war is also inconsistent with the 359 drug-related killings—34.3 percent of which were committed by state agents—recorded during his second year in office by research project Dahas. Moreover, despite claims of an independent foreign policy, the Philippines under Marcos remains dependent on the US and its unequal treaties, said Liza Maza of MAKABAYAN. Last year, Marcos announced the creation of four new US military bases in the country under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement with the US. Such treaties with the US have been criticized for intensifying tensions with China and the broader Indo-Pacific region. Clarice Palce of Gabriela and Ronnel Arambulo of Pamalakaya raised their worries of the Philippines being dragged into a stand off between two global superpowers which will only worsen the poor living conditions of Filipinos. The program ended with a symbolic destruction of the effigies of Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte. The broken UniTeam will be challenged by the Makabayan Coalition which will field a complete senatorial slate including ACT Teachers Party-list Representative France Castro and Gabriela Women’s Party Representative Arlene Brosas in the 2025 midterm elections. "STORY OF MY ATHLETE LIFE"
The majority of athletes begin their careers while they are young and become quite passionate about their sport. The athletes of today are occupied with much more than their sport.
Many athletes do not have the satisfaction of living a typical life because they are too busy worrying about other obligations like education, family, and spare time. The effects of becoming an athlete in today's society include time commitment, stress, and character development. When I was in Grade 6, I started joining sports event like the track and field. And luckily, I have the honor to represent our beloved hometown in the Palarong Pambansa 2017 in Antique, with two gold medals. After many years pass by I have again the opportunity to compete in the said event which is the 110m hurdle and 100m run in the CAVRAA 2022. After that big events and game day, going home with a two gold medals again and always dedicating my medals and winning to my family who are always supporting me.
Being an athlete is so much more than going out and playing a sport. It’s about doing something you love, inspiring others, and being a role model for the next generation. I'm Robina S. Tabor, your 4x CAVRAA player and 1x Palarong Pambansa in hurdle and running events.

Bustos' appearance as a private prosecutor in criminal cases concerning the violation of Batas Pambansa Blg. 22, also known as the Bouncing Checks Law. Fifteen separate informations for violations of Batas Pambansa Blg. 22 were filed against respondent Claudio. Initially, these cases were assigned to Branch 84 of the RTC Quezon City. However, upon Claudio's request, the presiding judge of Branch 84 recused himself, leading to the reassignment of the cases to Branch 105, presided over by Judge Johnico G. Serquina. Claudio was arraigned on November 20, 1986, and pleaded not guilty. Subsequently, Judge Tomas V. Tadeo, Jr. replaced Judge Serquina. On January 8, 1987, Judge Tadeo rejected Atty. Bustos' appearance as a private prosecutor, arguing that Batas Pambansa Blg. 22 does not provide for civil liability or indemnity. Banal's motion for reconsideration was denied on March 31, 1987, prompting this petition for certiorari and mandamus to allow Atty. Bustos to appear as a private prosecutor.
Issue:
Did the respondent court act with grave abuse of discretion or in excess of its jurisdiction in rejecting the appearance of a private prosecutor in the criminal cases involving the violation of Batas Pambansa Blg. 22? Specifically, the issue is whether the private prosecutor has a right to intervene in the criminal cases to pursue the civil aspect of the liability of the accused.
Ruling:
The Supreme Court granted the petition and ordered the respondent court to permit the intervention of a private prosecutor in behalf of the petitioner in the prosecution of the civil aspect of the criminal cases. The Court set aside the orders of the RTC dated January 8, 1987, and March 31, 1987, and directed the RTC to allow the petitioner to intervene as a private prosecutor in the criminal cases. The Supreme Court held that the respondent court erred in rejecting the appearance of a private prosecutor, citing that Batas Pambansa Blg. 22 does not provide for civil liability or indemnity. The Court explained that the concept of civil liability arising from a crime is based on the fundamental postulate that "Every man criminally liable is also civilly liable.

THIS JUST IN OVERNIGHT: 'Carlos Yulo' wins 2 Gold Medals that creates history at Paris Olympics 2024 [#OneNETnewsEXCLUSIVE]
Tumblr media
MALATE, MANILA -- In a historic feat the past weekend, Filipino artistic gymnast 'Mr. Carlos Edriel Poquiz Yulo' has won two (2) gold medals at a recently concluded 'Paris Olympics 2024'. Mr. Yulo's victories marked the first time that the Philippines had ever secured gold medals in both men's floor exercise and vault events at the Bercy Arena in France.
Before, at the age of 6, Yulo's journey to stardom began as a young kid, where he started training in gymnastics, under the tutelage of his father and kagawad named Mr. Mark Andrew Yulo. His talent soon caught the attention of national coaches who saw potential in him. In 2012, as reported exclusively by an independent Philippine news outlet Rappler, Yulo competed in the 2012 Palarong Pambansa (National Games) in Pangasinan as a 7 y/o prodigy.
In a stunning display of skill and precision, Yulo perfected a final score of 15.000 at the Men's Artistic Gymnastic Vault finals. He followed this feat with another impressive performance, securing a gold medal in the vault finals with a final score of 15.116. The world witnessed a new star emerge as Yulo dominated the competition.
As news of his victories spread across the country, numerous cash incentives, food franchises, sponsorships, endorsements and general rewards (some of them are free-of-charge) poured in from various sectors to celebrate Yulo's achievements. For instance, Megaworld offered an upgraded 3-bedroom condo-unit prize at a 50-hectare McKinley Hill in Taguig City, this said province of NCR worth PHP33M++ to the young athlete himself, while local delivery service GetFood in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental (as an example) pledged a special incentive package.

Not only that… Manuel "Chaco" Longa Sagarbarria (regional governor of Negros Oriental), Janice Vallega Degamo (a local female Mayor in Pamplona), and national Philippine President 'Mr. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Romualdez Marcos Jr.' have also congratulate the 2-time gold medalists.
To sum it all up… The Philippine national government in Gold Medals under the administration of PBBM individually twice the amounts of PHP10M under the Republic Act #10699 or The Expanded National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act of 2015, signed by the late Philippine President named 'Mr. Benigno Simeon Aquino III'. While the House Resolution #1839, the House of Representatives in the Philippines receives as doubled for PHP3M. Generally from the Philippine Olympic Committee and Property Development Company, they will receive House & Lot and Condominium Units like Megaworld. Taxes for Mr. Yulo permanently exempted to the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) at Revenue District Office branch #33.
The overall total received to almost PHP60M (or U$D1.04M). Cash incentives and general prize amounts may soon subject to change.
As things stand to follow, plans are underway for an upcoming heroes' welcome parade in his hometown of 'Leveriza Street, Malate, Manila, National Capital Region' upon his return from France. Details have yet to be announced, either before or after Closing Ceremonies in this French olympic sport event. But something is expected that around thousands of Filipinos will turn themselves out, and to celebrate their new Olympic hero, sometime early next week, in the 2nd week of August 2024.
For Yulo, this historic achievement marks a new beginning as he looks forward to continuing his career and bringing more glory to our home country in future international competitions planned until 2028.
But according to him, in an exclusive televised interview of TV Patrol via ABS-CBN News last Monday night (August 5th, 2024 -- Manila local time), Yulo will take a short vacation break by spending time with his first Pinay-Australian model and a new girlfriend in Paris named 'Ms. Chloe Anjeleigh San Jose', and followed first when arrived home, also spending quality time together with the Yulo's family, friends and relatives.
As for now, he will bask in the glow of his two (2) gold medals and the admiration of his beloved kababayans.
