The nod made sense in the Hawkeye series (still didn't like it, but that's another post) and was used in a SERIOUS moment.

Once again, everything has become a joke. This scene, in of itself, is amusing and the kids pull it off. However,

why?

why does Marvel keep dismissing and using the sacrifices of their OG characters as a joke?

Presenting: The Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie VHS: Clamshell Edition!

Okay, so I have been dying to share this project since I completed it last November, but I've been waiting until I was a little more active on my socials. And now I am!

I was inspired by thecolinstein on instagram to make this. I found his version back in 2023 and I wanted to buy it, but then I thought, hey, I could just make my own how I want it! With a clamshell case! How hard could it be?

Very hard, as it turns out.

That's not to discourage anyone from trying themselves. There were just a lot of roadblocks unique to my own process. Like the fact that I went through, like, five tapes recording the video file because I thought they were bad tapes. Nope, it was my stupid "smart" tv trying to automatically adjust the aspect ratio that was making the picture black out periodically. And before I got a computer that DIDN'T take 1 million years to boot up, it was difficult to design the cover and labels too.

Yes, I did record it at (almost) full aspect ratio, not 4:3, but 1.85:1 because that's how I'd watch it (I didn't want cropping on certain scenes and I REALLY didn't want letterboxing). And those glitchy parts on CJ's face are from my phone's camera, not the recording itself (you have no idea the heart attack I had before I double-checked lol)

Now, obviously since there's nothing on the tape to say that this is just a fanmade product, I will NOT be recreating this VHS for sale, not like thecolinstein (he has disclaimers on his). I'm not sure of the legality of selling my version. My whole intent was to simply make it look like the real deal, like you could find this in a garage sale bargain pile and believe it might have once been widely distributed. Also, I cannot be bothered to try taping the video file again, you can't make me lol. This was just a passion project. But I do hope I've inspired someone else!

an update on the crazy idea i mentioned: i have started on the paper prototype

the tl;dr: i had the crazy idea of making a small model carousel to display my DCA pins on. and since i'm having a bit of an artblock, this will provide a good break for me.

also apologies for the delay on replying to asks! you're all so sweet and your messages always brighten my day. i will get to you as soon as i can! i'm just arting a little slower as of late :')

so i ordered the youtooz dca pins because i earn adult money now and this is what i choose to spend that adult money on. and i realized i'm probably not gonna wear them because i'd be too scared of losing them, but i also don't wanna just put them in a box or frame them (some are bobble-headed and some dangle! i gotta let them move yknow?)

then this crazy idea came to mind... what if i made a tiny model carousel to display the pins on? that way they're displayed safely, but they are free to move around and be played with and i can remove them if i ever DO feel comfortable wearing them out. and if i ever get more DCA pins or keychains (like fan merch yknow 😍) then i can always add another "tier" to the carousel and make it taller. or i can mix and match what goes on the carousel. i also already have a lazy susan (i bought a pack of them from amazon for my spices and sauces) so, i could just put the model on it to make it spin (so i don't even need to make the spinning base!)

so yeah, this is going to be occupying my time and brain for the next couple of days (i'm somewhat going through a bit of an artblock too, so this will help me take a little break)

There is something very fun about cutting up weight loss ads though. Like these things are absolutely fucking worthless and I hate them, but the second I cut them up into hexies to use as templates for a nice warm quilt to cover up me (fat) and every other fat person I invite into my bed, they're actually doing something good and meaningful.

After the latest remaster episode, I genuinely question if there’s really any optimism for a nicer depiction of Evil Paper/DID systems in general at this point. I understand that they can’t deviate from II1’s original basis too much and, at its basis, EP is always going to be a problematic stereotype in of itself - but at this point it actually feels like they have very little intent of redoing *anything* beyond removing certain scenes.

I think it doesn’t help that Paper’s trauma with Idiotic Island is *still* being played for laughs, or at bare minimum their emotional breakdown definitely isn’t written with the same weight Suitcase’s arc or similar had in II2. I get that a serious depiction isn’t what II1 is for, but it’s kinda hurtful to see Paper still get treated like a chore or big overreactor by the plot (see: Baseball). It’s different from other situations in II where the ableism from other characters is actually taken seriously and called out. Here it feels like we’re still supposed to laugh and agree with Baseball that yes, Paper is making a big deal out of nothing! What a loser!

It doesn’t particularly help that remastered Paper’s voice direction is still referred to as “Paper’s evil side.” Evil Paper is in their name, but I think it’s different when it’s from the perspective of a staff member still calling Paper’s trauma arc “evil.” It makes me worried that II truly hasn’t improved much at all in writing characters with disabilities, despite the repeated promises to get better. I don’t know. Maybe other Paper fans have a different take on this. Sigh.
