like, sure, yeah, he's a reasonable guy. real logical-- but he tends to rush through so many possibilities and in this scene even berates himself for his tiny mistake. every thought in this scene goes so fast to me here, just "snap snap snap, call for help, no thatll attract too much attention- wait is there a switch? crap its too far away- nevermind lets just wait for marcille- but can i trust her with that?? god im so stupid, am i just gonna be trapped here until morning???" and it takes a moment for him to stabilise and snap out of it

i guess you could take this as him merely being a quick thinker? but i highly doubt it -- look at this fucking guy.

anyways. hes always got to be eased out of it one way or another, whether that be complainerism (self-explanatory), strategising with another person (that way all the insecure thoughts get pushed to the back in favour of working together), reassuring himself (discussed above) or...

he doesnt even respond in that first pic, by the way. in fact, he doesnt say anything for another 3 (and a bit) pages, and by then the topic has been safely switched (granted those three pages are just marcille and laios making the familiars, but i feel it still stands that there was no response at all, not even visually)

secondly, in that other instance -- see how his eyes go wide as saucers when contact is made? and how they turn into pinpricks once he looks back**? god. and. like.

"complete sidenote: when did we start psychoanalyzing dubas more than any other gms" this is a FANTASTIC question. I wonder if on hockey tumblr specifically it's partly because of the rpf-ification of him. I can't think of any gm except maybe yzerman who's in as much fic as dubas, and even in yzerman's case a lot of the fic is focused on relationships from his playing days. dubas fic usually pairs him off with a player he was gm of so people might be more willing to speculate on his interiority as a gm. there's some psychoanalyzing of pat verbeek going on right now on hockey tumblr, and it's mostly coming from jd/tz corners where analysis of him is in conversation with the rpf-y jd/tz of it all.

this of course does nothing to explain why broader leafs spaces are so into psychoanalyzing dubas. he's jsut got an allure, maybe.

good evening patcap nation today i’m thinking about the first year pat spent at button house as a ghost, when he found his feet and started making clubs and getting the ghosts to join in with more stuff. i imagine one day he took them all to the lake for a day out, the captain naturally co-leading their little excursion, and the captain never said anything to him out loud but he did quietly watch him from the sidelines. and as the sun set slowly over the water and pat finished up his very first talk on activity badges, the captain allowed himself a small, pleased smile at the progress pat had made.
