Took me long enough to finish this damn fic, even if it was just the one last chapter I needed to write. Five full years after posting the first chapter, I finally wrote an ending. No need to express how relieved I am to have gotten rid of one more wip lol

Hopefully I never have to participate again, as I should finish my fics without going MIA for multiple years! thank you @queerofthedagger for the tag. here's a snippet of a teen wolf (sterek! 🤭) fic i'm working on! very slowly.... but.... uh... anyways! it's an alternate canon where Stiles is a medium (he can see ghosts) and he meets a ghost!Laura

Back to the whole "I see dead people" thing. Stiles was pretty well-adjusted to it at this point. He wears iron-lined glasses so he doesn't notice them at school. When he talks to one, he puts his phone to his ear. And it reallllllly helped that he learned to discern the difference between the dead and the living. It wasn't always like this though. Stiles frequently got in trouble for following spirits or talking to them. He was even sent to a few shrinks over it. Back then, his mother had been his only reprieve. The only person who believed him. She would ask him about the ghosts he met and their stories. She called it a gift. It was only when she died that he started to think it was a curse. When she died and he couldn't see her ghost. What was the fucking point if he couldn't see her ghost!?

It’s quiet.

My conclusions: ...honestly, I'm not sure there is any clear pattern? Some use dialogue, some immediately set a scene or context, some are incredibly vague without revealing much, POV is very clear in about half of them, entirely unknown in the rest. I will say that several of them require the second sentence to contextualise them before they hit properly as a line, so that's perhaps the clearest pattern here — you can't stop after just the first sentence.

Well Delilah’s actor has like a 10/15 year age gap on the main cast (same with Sylas) so she probably wasn’t auditioning for Keyleth lol. Allura, maybe. She’d be the right age range

I could see Percy coming in auditioning for Vax and the people being like “No, you’re like EXACTLY Percy.” Grog was probably just auditioning for ANYONE and they just wrote him down for Grog as soon as he walked in

Just recently got around to watching Crimes of Grindelwald (don't come @ me akdjdjjs I love the first movie but didn't hear anything good about the second so I never really put in the effort to watch it) and, as a result, came back and read your mermaid reader fic now that I can understand it! And i want to say 1) what a way to please my inner child at pretending to be a mermaid I did that so often as a kid, that was lovely 2) I didn't think of Theseus that way until your fic and now I'm rethinkin everything.... anyway just wanted you to know how much I loved it!!

Thank you so much for the ask @lastontheboat! 🥰 As it happens, I just recently answered this, and since then very little has changed — so I'm mostly repeating what I said then, with perhaps a couple of changes to give two other fics a shout-out.

Horizons Over Battlegrounds — BBC Merlin, 14.5k Honestly, if someone only ever reads one thing of mine, I hope it's this one. It's a canon era fic, specifically based on that scene in s4 where the knights prank Merlin by pretending they didn't leave any food for him. I always hated this scene, it felt so utterly wrong that they would treat Merlin so terribly — this fic is my fix-it for that atrocity. It's also just some of the best writing I ever produced, and I never felt like I reached that standard again since. So yeah, this one is my pride and joy.

I wish I'd known then — BBC Merlin, 7.5k (WIP) Merthur watches Heartstopper, my beloved. Yes, this is a WIP, but it’s one of my favourite things I ever started. It was supposed to be a quick, fluffy Drabble for Dopamine, but has grown far far beyond that; it’s probably the most detailed character study I’ve ever done of Arthur — and also Nick and Charlie from Heartstopper 😅 Writing it is definitely a challenge, especially the pacing, but it’s very rewarding too when I figure out how to do a certain part. (Spoiler warnings for HS season 1!)

Get Him Back — BBC Merlin; Loaded March (by Footloose) spin-off, 14.6k If you know me at all, you know I love fight scenes, but because most my fics are short, I rarely get to write them properly. This one finally gave me the opportunity, and these scenes are among my favourite fights I’ve written, ever, and it makes me sad that only so few people will ever see them. I mean i get it, it's a spin-off but I’m sad anyway.

A Faire Fight — BBC Merlin, 6.7k A post-Canon, Arthur returns in modern day fic, where Merlin brings Arthur to a medieval faire to give him something that reminds him of home. Again, this one has fight scenes, my beloved — but without stakes, in a tournament. This one was just fun to write.

Stay With Me — BBC Merlin, 4.2k This one made the list for one particular line that I’m just proud of. You’ll know when you see it. Canon era, heavy whump & violence, but definitely with a happy ending!

And again, I know it says five favourite fics, but I have to give Mine To Protect an honourable mention, otherwise this just feels wrong. This is the first fic I ever published, and the older parts are honestly not up to my improved writing standards — hence why it didn't make the top 5 — but i’m still proud of having written something as big as this (213k WIP).
