As a Chinese person from Hong Kong I'm going to officially say this absolutely blows my mind. Here's why.

In the video, Charles and Carlos were plainly copying calligraphy stroke-by-stroke from a large image in front of them. What makes Carlos' attempt so impressive is that he's effectively gotten nearly all the proportions, starting and ending brush pressures and tail-offs, and the structure right. It's not perfect. But it's damn well near perfect.

Compare it to Charles': Charles didn't do a bad job at all, and has successfully copied many of the requisite features, but he has seen each stroke as a line, as many people who write Chinese characters with ballpoint pens do nowadays - point A to point B, with natural loss of shape and flow in between. It's not necessarily a problem. Charles is writing the characters. But interestingly, Carlos isn't writing at all.

On rewinding the video you see why Carlos' was shaped so perfectly. He doesn't know Chinese. He doesn't know anything about stroke order, or speed. But he knows detail.

If you look at his hands as he writes he separated each stroke into a shape. Then he did his level best to recreate each shape as carefully as he could by pressing the brush until he could see it formed the right thickness of the line.

He didn't write, like Charles did. He painted.

If this is how good Carlos is at copying a language he does not know I wonder how amazing he would be at painting if he actually spent time to learn.

So I saw the post by the anti-Zionist protester who was horrified to learn that they’d been hanging out with some Nazis at a protest for a couple hours before said Nazis told on themselves by verbally attacking some Jews at a synagogue who were supporting the protesters, and I’m just… I’m so frustrated. Because despite all of this—despite the fact that Nazis are comfortably inserting themselves into anti-Zionist spaces and targeting them for recruitment specifically due to the ideological and rhetorical overlap—anti-Zionists still refuse to do any introspection as to whether or not their commitment to the movement is in itself antisemitic.

So I keep thinking about Tissaia with epilepsy. Like she's had it since she was a child, but when she came to Aretuza she was able to slowly get a grasp on it through potions and other magical care, to the point that by her accension, she rarely ever had episodes.

But I think it also fed into her obsession with control. There's nothing quite like a seizure to make a person feel out of control, and she hates the way they make her feel... vulnerable, exposed. If she can just recognize and catalog every symptom and trigger, can figure out the exact amount of water she must drink and the exact amount of wine she's allowed to indulge in and the exact amount of time she has to take her potions once the migraines and auras start, well, she can keep them under control - keep herself under control.

By the time Yennefer enters her life, she hasn't had an episode in well over a century. (And hasn't been witnessed by anyone during, in much, much longer). She can almost pretend she doesn't have them, but that doesn't stop the fact that she sees herself in Yennefer from the very first moment she saw her crooked spine and twisted jaw. And she can't tell which urge is stronger, to shy away from her or hold her closer.

All of this to say, I keep thinking about:

A) a post-sodden where the dimeritium in Tissaia's blood and the illness it leaves her with, leaves her struggling with the delicate grasp she has on her control. I think it adds an extra layer to how she interacts with Yennefer. The desperate yearning paired with the pained distance. The anxious need to feel strong for a powerless Yennefer, despite feeling so weak and out of sorts herself. Especially when Yennefer has always been the one to challenge her careful balance in more ways than one.

And B) a post-alzur's thunder where channeling that much electric current has more of an effect than just whitening Tissaia's hair. Electrical injury has been known to cause neurological symptoms, including potentially triggering seizures, and Tissaia channeled enough current to have been vaporized. She should have been. And maybe her control is what saved her, but not without consequences. I feel like she would have been hiding it for days. The faint trembling and unfocused eyes, the other mages can attribute to exhaustion, both magical and otherwise. But Tissaia knows. She knows what's coming, and what's worse, none of her usual preventatives are working.

I think she has a couple minor episodes before anyone else notices. She's always able to retreat to privacy before anything happens. Though there always seems to be a pair of watchful violet eyes staring after her.

Until one day, she just drops. The other mages, of course, panic because they've never seen Tissaia like this, but all Tissaia registers is Yennefer. Yennefer's warm hand gently turning her to her side. Yennefer's voice as it alternates between low soothing tones and commands to the other mages. Yennefer who sits with Tissaia and becomes her balance and control, when all she feels is chaos.

horror: really sans (and by extension any classic variant) would believe in climate change due to being former scientists. like what type of scientist DOESN'T believe in climate change. so horror would believe in climate change but he'd be really damn pessimistic about it (because he's an asshole!) like he genuinely wouldn't care at all. sometimes on bad days he purposely litters. on really hot/cold days as a result of climate change he'd complain and start considering bring environmentally friendly. but he never does. horror wouldn't care at all

killer: he would believe in climate change but he similarly to horror wouldn't care. because he simply has more important things to care about (kities :3 nightmare :3) he thinks those things are somehow above climate change (dumbass!!!! nightmare would melt like wax because of climate change) but when faced with the reality that things are actually being affected by climate he'd be like damn.... this shit id actually happening and i'm contributing to it.... but then he'd immediately move on and get back to more important business

dust: climate change believer but he just does not care. like he tries not to be wasteful and litter and he probably properly uses a recycling bin but in the end he doesn't really give a shit if his efforts are really helping. also he kinda forgets sometimes and that's really not helping the globe. dust would bring it up in fights that he recycles and then people (horror an killer) would shit on him for A. being a pretentious stuck up dick who thinks hes better than everyone for being environmental and B. because he's a goddamn hypocrite that doesn't even stick to his own recycling goals. goddamn asshole

nightmare: he's smart enough to know that climate change does exist but he purposely pretends that it isn't real to piss people off (and get those delicious delicious negative emotions :3) and he'd do it so confidently and he'd belittle you so much that either you get so pissed off and irritated at him or you start questioning yourself and if climate change actually IS real? he'd make up fake sources for climate change being fake and site the mtt as his source because they used to be scientists 💀💀

ink: this fella doesn't even know what day of the week it is do you think they would remember climate change??? absolutely not. anyways ink probably has it scrawled down on his scarf: CLIMATE CHANFE EXISTS. dream: he really really struggled with grappling with the concept that YES climate change exists. YES there is enough trash out there to kill the earth. YES there is not much he can do about it. like every moral dilemma question about climate change was asked by dream (to swap) and he's very upset about climate change prior to maturing. but after maturing he knows that he can't do much to help climate change but he is FERVENTLY environmentally friendly and tries to remind everyone around him to help the earth (without shoving it down their throats because he's nice like that). if dream had the time he would probably start a nonprofit for helping the earth. he would start a nonprofit for everything actually. modern au dream where he has several nonprofit organizations to help various causes. someone out there's gonna love this idea

swap: he does. i think he would make a joke about it at first when being asked like CLIMATE'S CHANGING? I HOPE HER NEW OUTFIT LOOKS GREAT! or some dumbass fucking joke like that but this guy is even more environmentally friendly than dream. he goes to RALLIES for the environment. he would use environmentally friendly soaps and even fucking kitchen utensils. this guy is just here for saving the earth. he wants to really really believe that big corporations don't mean bad with pollution but he knows. theres no convincing himself that big corp wants to save the earth. even someone like swap who always has hope can't convince himself of that shit

cross: he would obviously believe in climate change. i actually don't know if theres someone here that i don't thinm believes in climate change yet. anyways cross would and he'd recycle regularly and try to be good at it. but accidents happen and he messed up his recycling sometimes and then he feels bad for it because the goddamn earth is gonna die if he doesn't at least contribute his part. cross is baffled by people who don't believe in it the same way i am at flat earthers. like HELLOthe rising temperatures are right there!!!!
