Researchers claim photoluminescent aerogel has a visible light reflectance of 104%
A team of chemists and materials scientists at Sichuan University, in China, has developed a photoluminescent aerogel with a visible light reflectance of 104%. In their study, published in the journal Science, the group created their aerogel from readily available biomass. Changyu Shen and Xianhu Liu, with Zhengzhou University, also in China, have published a Perspective piece in the same journal issue outlining work surrounding the development of polymeric passive radiative cooling materials and the work by the team on this new effort. As the climate warms, scientists are looking for ways to help people stay cool. One avenue of research is the development of passive radiative cooling materials—these provide cooling abilities due to their nature rather than via a process.

A friend saw a figure of a Duskull with the mask shining in the dark and said she wanted one, so I said "challenge accepted."
Español: Una amiga vio una figura de un Duskull al que se le iluminaba la máscara en la oscuridad y dijo que quería uno, así que yo dije “reto aceptado”.

Reskate Studio’s new mural that glows in the dark
Harreman is the Reskate Studio project that for years has been bringing unique mural works to walls all over Europe, which only reveal themselves in the dark. The photoluminescent paint used by María López and Javier de Riba creates incredible images, capable of breaking up the urban landscape and thanks to its glow. The latest work presented by Reskate Studio is entitled “Eulalia” and depicts a girl immersed in water, with her torso – the only part visible during the day – to which a vase containing a plant is clutched. ‘Eulalia‘, created between 2022 and 2023, is painted in Mérida, a town in Extremadura (Spain), and is surrounded by white residential buildings.

Consider the humble photon?
Humility is no virtue! But yes, I agree photons are also quite cool. Easily #2, and honestly in contention for the #1 spot. The ways they interact with electrons make it difficult to evaluate one without the other

For example, latent fingermarks on paper can be detected by treating with the chemical 1,2-indanedione, which reacts with the amino acids present in the latent fingermark to give pink impressions, which are luminescent when illuminated with blue-green light (505 nm) and viewed through orange goggles (see figure 20.8).

Researchers achieve >99% photoluminescence quantum yield in metal nanoclusters
A research team has achieved near-unity room-temperature photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) (>99%) in the near-infrared (NIR) emission of metal nanoclusters in solution. Their work is published in Science. Gold nanoclusters (Au NCs) as NIR-emissive materials hold potential in biomedical applications. However, the PLQY of Au NCs in the NIR region is typically low, often less than 10%. To address this problem, researchers synthesized Au22(tBuPhC≡C)18(Au22) and its copper-doped counterpart, Au16Cu6(tBuPhC≡C)18 (Au16Cu6), to study their photophysical properties. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that Au22 and Au16Cu6 share similar structures. Au22 showed an emission peak at 690 nm and Au16Cu6 at 720 nm. The absolute PLQY of Au22 and Au16Cu6 in air were 9% and 95%, respectively. In the deaerated solution, the PLQY of Au16Cu6 reached 100%, measured by both absolute and relative methods. Time-correlated single-photon counting measured the photoluminescence lifetimes of Au22 and Au16Cu6 to be 485 ns and 1.64 μs, respectively.

Phosphorescence
What's the difference between phosphorescence and fluorescence? What makes one type of material better suited for glow-in-the-dark applications than another? Read more in the link below!
Phosphorescence is a type of photoluminescence in which a substance emits light after being exposed to light energy (electromagnetic radiation). Unlike fluorescence, which is usually short-lived, phosphorescence can continue to emit light for a period of time after the initial exposure. The excited electrons tend to decay at a much slower rate. This can be as quick as a few microseconds and as…

Kotick’s woggle which glows in the dark.
Well, since I've been experimenting with glow-in-the-dark filament and I like to make things functional, I've said "hey, why not make the Kotick's woggle, which is dedicated to risk prevention and emergency management, glow in the dark, so it can be used to signal in case the power goes out?". And here is the result.

NGC 7023: The Iris Nebula Image Credit & Copyright: Robert Shepherd
Explanation: These cosmic clouds have blossomed 1,300 light-years away in the fertile starfields of the constellation Cepheus. Called the Iris Nebula, NGC 7023 is not the only nebula to evoke the imagery of flowers. Still, this deep telescopic image shows off the Iris Nebula's range of colors and symmetries embedded in surrounding fields of interstellar dust. Within the Iris itself, dusty nebular material surrounds a hot, young star. The dominant color of the brighter reflection nebula is blue, characteristic of dust grains reflecting starlight. Central filaments of the reflection nebula glow with a faint reddish photoluminescence as some dust grains effectively convert the star's invisible ultraviolet radiation to visible red light. Infrared observations indicate that this nebula contains complex carbon molecules known as PAHs. The dusty blue petals of the Iris Nebula span about six light-years.
