Time for REAL Sinners discourse
When Remmick gets cut off singing “pick poor Robin clean” he said it was just getting good.
But according to the original version of the song on the Sinners (2025) soundtrack sung by Geeshie Wiley, this is the ONLY other verse in the song:

What did Remmick mean by this

I've been digging a little into some of the songs used in Sinners and I have THOUGHTS (which shall be put under a cut for now because of spoilers):
So one of the most interesting scenes to me is Remmick asking to be invited into the juke joint. I've only seen the movie once so far, but from my memory of it and the bits and pieces the internet has posted of it, I love how you see everyone's varied reactions to him, and how their feelings about him change as he tries different tactics to get in. "We've got money to spend!" has gotta be a classic for vampires in America at this point, and (again, from what i remember) seems to intrigue a few people at the door, but not all. The messages of equality and community are also pretty standard, but - as every person at the door damn well knows - anyone can say they're for those things. It does not mean their actions will reflect that. So Remmick suggests they play a song, to demonstrate their skills, to prove they're good enough to play in the juke joint, and the song they choose is 'Pick Poor Robin Clean'. The lyrics of which could be interpreted as: - Literally picking apart a bird to eat, but not eating the body because it doesn't taste good. The most vampire-friendly interpretation. Also makes the "having a family" part super creepy relevant. - Tricking someone into giving you all their money and possessions, in a card or dice game, or maybe just straight up scamming them. This interpretation speaks more to people like Smoke and Stack, who've spent their whole lives lying and cheating people to steal their goods. Possibly part of why Remmick chose the song, in the hopes it would appeal to them. The "Lord, did that jaybird laugh when I picked poor Robin clean" is also interesting. The suggestion there's something separate from both the bird/person being attacked and the bird/person doing the attacking, sitting back and laughing at it all, is very relevant to this being the Jim Crow South, with the KKK looming. BUT ALSO This is a Blues song, that originated in the Black community. And Remmick decides to perform it, with his two former-KKK vamp-buddies, in this weirdly too perfect way, syncing up their instrument movements and everything. That is when everyone decides they need to leave. Remmick, still ignorant, has no idea why they didn't like it. He tries to guilt trip them about how hard they practiced and "that was damn near perfect!" You played a Blues song that isn't yours in the most heartless, soulless way, sir. No. This is clearly not the place for you. AND THEN Mary goes out there to talk with them later, and they're playing "Wild Mountain Thyme." A Scottish/Irish folk song, with lyrics that are not vampiric or sinister at all. It's just a little bittersweet and beautiful. Like...why didn't you play that at the door if you wanted in?? He was still playing the rules of a white-supremacy-style game. Blend in. Pretend you're no different than everyone else. Assimilate. And it honestly makes sense, as someone who's been oppressed themselves. Proving you can erase your individuality to fit in is usually the most effective tactic to get people to accept you into the group. Also, this might be me having incorrect info, but when I looked up "Wild Mountain Thyme", the origins of it are old, like 1800s, but the version they sing in the movie actually wasn't made until the 1950s? Which would then imply that Remmick has his own ability to connect with past/present/future through music as well? Which is very interesting!

Ever single track on the “Sinners” soundtrack is a certifiable banger.
Every. Single. Track.
Man, I wish I went out more because if I heard any of these songs anywhere, I would be up and jumping and dancing because holy crap, these songs are so fucking GOOD!
(also I am so obsessed with this movie; please talk to me about it)

Okay but Bjorn. In Sinners?? That impulsive, sweaty, mouthy little hothead? He would’ve been eaten alive in 10 minutes and I would’ve watched it on loop
