Tony was a little surprised the motivating factor for Bucky to heal was a promise that Tony would try to too.  He didn’t know why that would be such a motivating factor to him.  Yeah, they were definitely getting close, but it still felt like a lot.  Maybe it was just left over guilt for killing his parents.  But maybe… maybe it was more? 

“Alright,” he said.  “We’ll work on that.  Okay?  No more thinking we deserve pain.” 

Tony nodded without hesitation.  “Of course you can, if you think you’ll need the extra help.  You know I’m happy with you hanging out here whenever you want anyway.  I’ll help you out if you need it.”  He let go of Bucky’s wrists and patted his leg again.  “But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, Buck.  They might not need to.  It’s just a maybe, if they are slightly uncertain about the placement.”

There was something that Tony noticed too.  The blush and the way he dropped his eyes.  Tony was used to people getting flustered around him, but not Bucky.  Had this thing that’d been doing gone too far?  They hadn’t really talked about it since that first time and Tony had said he didn’t do relationships.  He didn’t know if Bucky was blushing because he wanted one now.

He’d need to reflect.  He didn’t want to end what they had, but he also didn’t want to hurt Bucky.  The guy had been through enough.  Now was not the time. “Anything else worrying you, bud?” he asked.

Bucky had heard Tony talk about his role in the damage his company had caused, how his failure to recognized the corruption in his company and what his weapons were being used for. He knows that trying to convince him that it wasn’t his fault really, and that carrying it like that forever, not just mentally but with the arc reactor causing a constant ache, wasn’t something he deserved. He raises an eyebrow when Tony offers to think about starting to convince himself to look into the options for taking it out and fixing the issues in his chest. He looks down at the arc reactor for a long moment and then back up at Tony with a nod, “If you mean it, really, I can do that. I..I’ll try to stop telling myself that I deserve better. That..that I shouldn’t’ try to hang on to the pain as a reminder of what I was forced to do, and that it isn’t disrespectful to their memory to stop…stop thinking of it everyday.”

He can’t help the faint smile at being called Frosty, Tony did know how to lighten his mood that’s for sure. He listens to Tony’s explanation about it not being totally required, and is tempted to just say that he didn’t want have it taken off early. But hearing that it would help make sure things are more accurate, which would prevent any complications with the attachment of the new arm, and also that he would make sure Bucky was alright through the few days he had to go with one arm, it was very persuasive. He takes Tony’s hands again, “would it..if I do decide to agree to letting them take it off early, could I plan to stay on your floor with you? I..” he blushes a bit and looks down at their hands as he prepares to ask for something that was definitely more than just friends that sometimes almost always ended up sleeping together. But he swallows his nerves and looks back up at Tony, “I know that it would make me more comfortable knowing that we have a plan for after just because I might lose my nerve to ask if I wait until after”

Cut In Half

Cut in half, you stopped eating for a while. Simply forgot. The air was dead with whole families of fruit flies inhaled at once. Your own skin made a lonely noise.

At the back of the bus later staring at your hands. What were these for now? Well, that’s it then, you think. That’s the end of being a person. And the day drives on into weeks anyway.

One morning you eat half a pear standing over the sink. The seeds on the slice make a sad dead face that stares back at you. The not crying at the sunny window. That's not not something. Some words on paper about it.

Just how did you stay on anyway? You cannot imagine. But look here's you pulling down handfuls of life from the trees again. The rotting flesh under your shoes is smelling sweet as you reach up.

Learning to pick your battles is an important skill. No ship has the resources to fight every potential foe. The Enterprise can't go after every evil entity we become aware of. Choose your battles wisely to focus your resources towards your primary goals as often as possible.

We are in a tumultuous period of time. We are so overwhelmed by the work laid out before us. Even small victories can feel pointless at times. Remember to recognize the victory that is not only behind you but the one that is ahead. Visualize this victory. Feel the immense satisfaction of having achieved your goals and doing the work, fighting the good fight. When you tire, remember that victory is already yours so long as you keep fighting. Rest when you need to, of course. Wars are rarely over after one battle. Pick up the battles you can and leave the rest. There are others fight beside you. When we work together and trust and believe in one another to do their part, we win. We cross the finish line. Appreciate the victories of the battles won. Celebrate all our efforts no matter the outcome. Anticipate the victory that is yet to come and let that anticipation fuel you when the fight becomes so draining you don't wish to carry on. Every effort is a victory in and of itself. Keep building upon it until the war is won. You can do it. We can do it. Together.

You personally cannot do something about everything wrong.

There are people working on fighting every terrible thing that is happening in our country right now.

If you want to get involved, you need to choose an issue.

Pick one thing you want to fight, and then join with the people who are focusing on that thing. Is it trans rights? Ok, that's your focus. Is it mass deportation? Great, pick that. Is it something else? There are people who's focus is on it, and you can join them. But you can't fight a war on all fronts, all you will do is burn yourself out while making almost no project on any front.

If you can't join specific causes, supporting the ALCU through sharing their posts or a monetary donation or anything. They're fighting a lot of these legal battles for people's rights.

And remember to take regular news breaks (2 days is great) to recharge and avoid burn-out.

You think that’d stop them? Their crimes know no bounds. One of them even got kicked out of the aforementioned the place you speak of. They are far more capable of anything you could possibly do to them. They are everywhere. They are watching. They are waiting. It’s only a matter of time.

not gonna lie, as much as I support the idea of being critical of our language and how it translates to our perception of ideas that may be harmful or offensive, i.e. casually ableist language, I also think some people are too sensitive to exist on this earth, and their pragmatism and charisma are severely harmed by the way they perfectly play into the stereotype of the sensitive snowflake that reactionaries think of everyone left of center as. It is in fact not inherently reactionary to be kinda edgy, and tumblr leftie culture simultaneously embraces and rejects this in a super dissonant way.
