You personally cannot do something about everything wrong.
There are people working on fighting every terrible thing that is happening in our country right now.
If you want to get involved, you need to choose an issue.
Pick one thing you want to fight, and then join with the people who are focusing on that thing. Is it trans rights? Ok, that's your focus. Is it mass deportation? Great, pick that. Is it something else? There are people who's focus is on it, and you can join them. But you can't fight a war on all fronts, all you will do is burn yourself out while making almost no project on any front.
If you can't join specific causes, supporting the ALCU through sharing their posts or a monetary donation or anything. They're fighting a lot of these legal battles for people's rights.
And remember to take regular news breaks (2 days is great) to recharge and avoid burn-out.

If are living in America and are wondering what you can do now please consider contacting The White House and demanding a recount / revote!
Check out the ALCU -> The ACLU is an organization that specifically fights back against harmful laws and bills - they fought trump off RAPIDLY during his first presidency and theyre overall good for keeping track of resources and stuff!
Ensure your vote is counted through Vote Curing!
Sign this Petition : Jane Byson (the maker of petition) ;
"We need a recount and revote for the 2024 election. An investigation needs to be looked into after Trumps sudden rise after all favor was pointed towards Kamala Harris. This isn't superstition when there was proof that she was in the lead. Something is wrong and the people of the US shouldn't suffer for it."
For those who are contemplating suicide or self harm consider contacting these Hotlines! Keep Fighting Please, and to those who have more resources PLEASE add on.

Don't cry. The ALCU has already filed a lawsuit against Trump's executive order to end birthright citizenship. The ICE raids on Chicago are '"being reconsidered" after the leak. There are plenty more of Trump's decisions that can still be stopped or stalled. All the Americans out there fighting the good fight didn't go away just because Trump took office yesterday.

Hello, I understand there is a lot happening with US politics right now. As a queer person myself with family from another country I am scared too. I want to offer resources to all of you that may be struggling to cope with the result of the election. Listed will be ways to contact the government to express concern, keep people around you safe, support for those who are suicidal, and much more. Hotlines/Suicide Hotlines Call Blackline: 800-604-5841 ~ Centers BI&POC, LGBTQ+ Black Femme Lens Trans Lifeline: 877-565-8860 (US), 877-330-6366 (Canada) ~ Run by and for Trans people. Book appointments for a form of birth control (if possible), or to always carry condoms for yourself and others. Look into sterilization options if that's what you're going for (A list of 1000 doctors who will sterilize you, no fight necessary) Protect anybody around you who may be harmed/affected by new policies. Remind loved one that you are there for them. Remind stressed relatives/friends that not all votes have been counted and there is a large push for a recount, Trump will need 2/3 of senate (60)/ 2/3 of the house of representatives (290)/ 3/4 of the states (38) to push for anything truly major. Protest marches are so fascinating.
Some people show up like it's Pride - decked in wings and wigs and flags and out to the world with rainbow signs. Some lean into surveillance chic, with neutral colors and masks and sunglasses and good walking shoes. Others pull out slogans and political gear - Hillary Clinton hats and HRC shirts and ALCU bracelets.
There are lot of people watching. The press with cameras, the city folk hanging out of windows, the helicopters and the drones and the people in black on nearby rooftops. The random people in windows with their phones out as if recording a parade. The people snapping and sharing photos, the live streaming influencers.
Lots of energy! Chants and cheers. Boos at the cops and oligarch property. Hollers at the cars honking in support. People sharing signs and pointing out props from balloons to paper mache heads trailing red streamers to the snare drums keeping time and the brass player churning out America the Beautiful, the Imperial March, the Macarana.
There can be confusion too - what's the march route? Who is speaking? Is that rev of an engine a show of support or a threat? What's that new chant? But there's also people taking charge, shouting rhymes in the air and climbing structures and organizers teller you where to go.
I would never describe a march as fun - but they're useful, emotional, uplifting. Recommend it as an experience at least once.

A reminder that violence is not a product of mental illness, and banning mentally ill people from owning guns on that basis is discrimination against the disabled.
America likes to use the "lone gunman was mentally ill" narrative because it gives a nice neat version of events. Like "gunman played dnd". And "gunman listened to rock music".
Violence is a problem in american culture. Not a result of mental illness. And mentally ill people are LESS not more likely to commit violent acts. Know who commits violent acts? Cops. The problem is in extremism social funnels which spit especially men out in to the world full convinced everyone is against them and violence is something they can do about it.
Sometimes mental illness can make it worse but the vast, overwhelming majority of the time treating mentally ill people like they're a violent attack waiting to happen hasn't actually helped anyone. This particular law was widely opposed by disability advocates, mental health advocates, and civil rights advocates because it was scapegoating.
That includes the ALCU, which you may note is not generally in favour of gun rights.
The law included *difficulty managing money* and difficulty living alone as justification for claiming someone was more dangerous with a gun.
They can't use the ACTUAL largest predictors - intimate partner, child, and animal abuse - to ban people because, again, cops do that. A lot.
If you are arguing that Trump is bad because he allowed *checks notes* people with difficulty managing money the same rights as everyone else, you're falling for a distraction.
He doesn't get any credit because he doesn't care about disabled or mentally ill people, but the law was still a bad one and unlikely to prevent shootings.
Ao can we *not* please.

¶ … Consent The New York Civil Liberties Union reports that a minor who is "emotionally and intellectually mature enough to give informed consent" and who lives in the house of his parents or guardians (under their supervision) is a "mature minor" (Feierman). The NYCLU information documents assert that New York medical ethics would (and presumably does) treat a mature minor "upon her informed consent." However in Ohio and other states a minor may not consent to medical care without parental consent, except in certain situations. In Ohio there is the "emergency care doctrine," which states that if there is a severe condition the doctor (or nurse in a hospital) "…may not need anybody's consent to begin treatment" (ALCU of Ohio, 2014). The informed consent must be received in writing prior to a minor being administered medications. According to the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, for children in custody (the 16-year-old boy John was in custody but escaped, so technically he is still a detainee) the supervisors must have all information regarding treatments, risks, health issues (www.tn.gov). So the doctor or other healthcare worker should obtain information in "sufficient detail to be able to make an informed decision regarding consent," and also, when the child is not in custody, parents in Tennessee have the decision-making power over their minor children. In the Journal of Medical Ethics an article states that clinicians should be knowledgeable as to who is able to give consent so those clinicians are informed before any situation may arise that would require a decision regarding informed consent. In fact on a natural level, it is the general rule that "Consent must be obtained before starting treatment or investigation, or providing personal care for a patient" (Fisher-Jeffes, Lisa, 2007). Doctors should to the extra mile to learn as much as possible about patients' "individual needs and priorities" and should "enter a dialogue with them about treatment" (Fisher-Jeffes, p. 2). The child's parents should be contacted if there is any doubt as to the child's ability or right to give his or her own informed consent. In Ohio, by law, before any patient agrees to any procedure in a healthcare setting these issues must be clearly explained: a) why this procedure is necessary; b) The purpose and the nature of the procedure; c) the benefits but also the risks of the procedure; and d) any possible alternatives to the procure must be presented (ACLU of Ohio). Patients must also be informed as to the cost of the procedure and any follow-up care that might be needed following the procedure, and part of the reason the "emergency care doctrine" is on the law books in Ohio is that if a minor condition is very severe, a doctor does not need "anybody's consent to begin treatment" (ACLU of Ohio). The Ohio rules on healthcare for children are also in line with the federal legislation that has been passed in this regard, the Health Insurance Privacy and Accountability Act (HIPAA) (ACLU of Ohio). HIPAA does not impact a minor's ability to consent but it does protect that minor's electronic medical records from his or her parents from accessing them online. Did John provide informed consent? It appears that John did provide informed consent but the information doesn't state that specifically. John claims he was involved in a methadone treatment program, but it would seem important for the doctor to have verified that fact before giving John a shot with 40 milligrams of methadone. We really don't know if he gave permission but we know he did give the phone number and names of his parents, and certainly a competent physician would take the time to phone the parents to check on John's story. The scenario presented also did not indicate how seriously John had been injured; hence, why suddenly inject 40 milligrams of Methadone into his body? Research shows that many addicts who are on Methadone take up to 30 milligrams a day, depending on their situation, but giving John 40 milligrams seems a bit extreme. Also, the doctor could have taken a swap from John's mouth and determined what drugs he was on. The bottom line is from the information provided John refused to get the blood he needed and lied about the Methadone (he had in fact been drinking and taking Librium); but the doctor must have assumed John gave informed consent when John told the doctor that he was in a Methadone program. This could be used in a court case on behalf of the doctor, although it's pretty shaky grounds to justify what the doctor did. What must the parents prove in their malpractice suit? The Louisiana Law Review describes the "Doctrine of Lack of Consent or Battery Concept in Medical Malpractice Jurisprudence" in a 1984 article. The article states that when a patient is in an emergency situation and cannot give consent, a doctor must proceed to save that patient's life (Boland, 1984). In this case John told the doctor that he was on Methadone so we know John was capable of talking. The parents have several approaches: The doctor failed to determine how old the patient was ("…John appeared to be 18"), and this was an egregious error on the part of the physician. If the patient is a minor, there are instances where he does not need to give informed consent was this was not one of those instances because clearly the boy had been consuming alcohol and any competent doctor would check up on the patient's rights and his history before shooting 40 Milligrams of drugs into him. And certainly the doctor could have smelled alcohol on John's breath (the aroma of beer is particularly noxious to a sober person, and the smell of beer stays on a person's breath for many hours, which should have caused a red flag). The parents must prove the doctor is guilty of malpractice; since he had the phone numbers of a young patient but did not call the parents, he was negligent which led to the boy's death.
