Cryshorn’s Call: Dune/Narnia Crossover

Summary: It is said Shai Hulud himself called House Pevensie to Arrakis to lead the Fremen into their first Golden Age. Centuries later, they have been called upon again.

Excerpt:

“The Shadout Mapes gave me this horn,” says Jessica, holding it between them with both hands. “It is made from a tooth of Shai Hulud, she said.”

Paul has heard of crysknives before, the legendary blades made from sandworm teeth carried by the Fremen. He’s never seen one, though, and never even heard of a horn being made from the same material. He takes it carefully from his mother, holding it with two hands as she did. “A cryshorn?” he supposes, examining the length. It looks so fragile.

“She told me the horn would summon help, perhaps even from Shai Hulud himself.” His mother’s voice is wry, disbelieving, as she imparts the Shadout’s words.

Paul is reminded vaguely of stories from long-ago. Fairy tales of ancient Arrakis and its supernaturally-powered rulers. Had one of them carried a horn…? Or perhaps it was another instrument entirely, and his tired mind is looking for connections that don’t exist.

He tells his mother, “We could use any help, now.” And, when she does not immediately protest, raises the horn to his lips.
