US Bitcoin Miners Use as Much Electricity as Everyone in Utah

Bitcoin miners in the US are consuming the same amount of electricity as the entire state of Utah, among others, according to a new analysis by the US Energy Information Administration. And that’s considered the low end of the range of use.

Electricity usage from mining operations represents 0.6% to 2.3% of all the country’s demand in 2023, according to the report released Thursday. It is the first time EIA has shared an estimate. The mining activity has generated mounting concerns from policymakers and electric grid planners about straining the grid during periods of peak demand, energy costs and energy-related carbon dioxide emissions.

“This estimate of U.S. electricity demand supporting cryptocurrency mining would equal annual demand ranging from more than three million to more than six million homes,” the report said.

While mining began in the US a decade ago, an influx of crypto mining companies have relocated from China after that country banned the industry in May 2021. Over the last three years, a flurry of large-scale miners have gone public in the US, setting up operations in some of the most energy-rich states such as Texas and New York.

Sugar, Spice, and Everything Ice.

I’ve been quiet this year.

This isn’t to say I haven’t been doing anything, as folks may have noticed. I’ve put up a whole mess of links to the work I’ve been doing in 2023—a grand total of 105 chapters—and that’s what I want to touch base on, at this tail-end of the year.

I found out early on in January that a dear friend of mine, my creative partner and the reason for my Paved with Good Intentions series, passed away in 2021. I’m not sure what it was, but that news hit me in a particular way. I realized that two of the projects in that aforementioned series, Blue Eyes, Violet Eyes and Lightbringer, were unfinished.

That didn’t sit right with me.

I set out to fix that.

There are many projects I’ve started that I never finished, and have been left languishing for . . . ten years? Yeah. Ten years.

That’s just ridiculous.

I decided that 2023 was going to cooperate with me whether it wanted to or not.

So, I bought a day-planner and set to work. Let’s go over the list, shall we?

Coronam Crepusculum

This was first on my list because it was a work that I owed a good friend of mine, who is no longer a regular user of Tumblr. It’s a take on the Soulsborne universe, built around a series of personal interviews with relevant characters conducted by an OC I created specifically for this purpose, Wandulfin of Vinheim.

(the latin title translates, hopefully, to “crown of twilight”)

                                51,377 words.

Paved with Good Intentions: Blue Eyes, Violet Eyes

The first of the two stories I knew I needed to finish in memory of my departed friend, I resolved to write the 19 chapters required to reach a clean finish line for this one-shot collection of 100 installments. It felt like the right way to go about things, and I think I worked out a lot of important elements of the Kaiba brothers through those 19 chapters.

                                165,386 words.

Paved with Good Intentions: Lightbringer

The second of the two stories written in my friend’s memory, this is still being published every Saturday. I wrote what amounted to the second half of this story, 55 chapters to be exact, for a grand total of 110 (of which 98 are published as of this post). I think it’s some of my best work to date, and I can only hope my partner would have appreciated what became of it. Have you ever wondered how Seto and Mokuba would react to meeting their parents again? If so, this is the story for you.

                                Published + Rough Draft: 159,930 words.

The City That Wouldn’t Die

The first full storyline of my personal take on World of Warcraft and my main character’s place in it, this story has undergone a lot of changes since I last touched it. This year, I resolved to end it at a part that made at least some amount of sense, but I won’t pretend that it’s entirely satisfactory. All I can say at this point is that I do intend to come back to Azeroth eventually. And this time, I hope to give my characters the story they deserve.

                                41,890 words.

Cult of the Dragon King

I’m pretty sure this is the one that’s been left alone the longest; if it isn’t, it’s close. The basic thrust of this story is that Atem failed in his quest to gather the Millennium Items and put them to rest properly, and so it falls to Seto Kaiba to try this time. I could go into detail why I picked Seto to be Atem’s successor, but I think y’all know what to expect here. I picked Seto because he’s my favorite. Anyway, this one isn’t ready to resume publishing, but it has been drafted. Anyone who’s been waiting for this one to continue will want to pay attention to this blog in 2024.

                                Published + Rough Draft: 175,246 words.

The Lost Dragon's Lullaby

Another AU centered around the Kaiba family (what can I say? I'm a creature of habit), this story wonders what it would have been like if Noa had lived. What if Seto and Mokuba had another brother when they were adopted? What if they had a mother? What would the Kaiba family look like if it were whole?

Approx. 62,609 words.

Watching the Lights Go Down

One of two stories I revived this year, and will resume publication in the new year. Do you Blueship? Do you wonder how Seto and Kisara might interact in the modern world, regardless of romantic intentions? This is the story for you. I took a set of 100 words to use as prompts to build this story, and through these 100 snapshots I think you’ll get a pretty clear picture of how I imagine Seto’s relationship with his favorite dragon would unfold if said dragon was a woman. And his bodyguard.

                                Approx. 52,789 words.

Letting the Cables Sleep

This is a sister story to the one I just outlined. Taking place concurrently with Lights, this story explores the relationship between Noa Kaiba and Ryo Bakura. Why these two? Why not? I don’t really have an answer, except to say that I found their dynamic interesting. Unlike its other half, Cables is explicitly romantic. So if you’re interested in Domino City’s resident white-haired cryptid hooking up with an android, well, here’s where you wanna go. I used the same list of 100 words, but in reverse order, to build this story.

                                Approx. 52,708 words.

Butterflies and Hurricanes

The other contender for “story Ice left to languish for the longest time,” I’m not sure I have to explain to anyone reading this why I might have stopped working on a Harry Potter story. Put basically, this story is an exploration into what would happen if a fae prince took an interest in taking down Lord Voldemort, and then settled on Sirius Black as his instrument. It’s a time travel story at its core, with all the nonsense you might expect from such a thing.

Regardless of anything this series’ author might have to say on the matter, my writing this story does not in any way endorse or condone transphobia or any of her other myriad bigotries. I have not given this woman money in 20 years. I do not support her in any way, shape, or form. This story’s completion is for my own satisfaction, and for the interest of anyone who might want to read it. That is all.

                Published + Rough Draft: 80,506 words.

The Whitest Lace of Light

A continuation of my pet take on the Bleach setting, focused again on Toshiro Hitsugaya and Rangiku Matsumoto and their Tenth Division. Throughout the 50 chapters of this story, they face off with a new threat to Soul Society as they try their hardest to rebuild after the Thousand-Year Blood War. Throughout this . . . suspense? Thriller? Thing. They come across new faces and old, and might just learn some things along the way. Or something. Look, I just wanted to write one of my favorite ships again.

                                Rough Draft: 30,033 words.

At Sixes and Sevens: A Prince for His Kingdom

The shortest work I completed this year, but certainly not the least important. This is a continuation of my pet take on the “Kaiba Bros Age Swap AU” as first shown to me by my dear friend @kintatsujo. How might Seto have handled an invitation to Duelist Kingdom if he’d been 9 years old when it took place? What about Mokuba, if he was 15? Shenanigans abound. I hope you like where I took this one, Kinta.

                                5,000 words.

Last but not least, I resolved to break my record for my longest NaNoWriMo project this year, because I’m ridiculous and don’t know when to quit.

Much like I approached World of Warcraft,I take every MMORPG I play as an excuse to build a story. Nowhere is this more obvious than Final Fantasy XIV. My take on Eorzea and its various magical idiosyncrasies—which I call The Song That God Forgot—set me on a road to 125,000 words this past November.

These projects, alongside various redrafts of my older stories in preparation for what I hope to be 2024’s migration from Fanfiction.Net to AO3, netted me a grand total of 902,580 words written in 2023.

I don’t say this to brag or to pat myself on the back (okay, maybe a bit), but to say . . . just hold on. Keep going. You’ll hit your stride eventually, even if it doesn’t seem like it. I’ve struggled to write regularly and with consistency for a decade now, and here I’ve got nearly a million words in a single year.

I believed in me this year, and I believe in you too.

Keep on truckin’. You’ll get there.

Don Ottavio* Modern Prod Jobs Tierlist

* and Ottavio-like characters in adaptations

As far as I remember (although my memory has heavy biases), Ottavio seems to be the Don G character with the most random jobs assigned to him when in a modern day setting. It makes sense; in the original he’s nobility, and they don’t really work at all, so in a modern prod, they’ll assign him something to give him more character traits than “guy who likes his gf, like, THIS MUCH”.

Some of these are really bad though.

F:

Parking inspector (#UncleJohn, Toronto, 2014) For some reason, this adaptation changed Anna and Ottavio to be significantly poorer than Zerlina and Masetto. Why? I have no idea. Anna and the Commendatore get an okay lot, being Zerlina and Masetto’s wedding planners, but Ottavio is a particularly low-ranking cop. This is pretty irreconcilable with the text and the actual character, although it does make him look extremely pathetic.

D:

Soldier (Don Giovanni, Chicago Lyric Opera, various) I just find it really hard to believe that a soldier is so squeamish about killing.

C:

Unspecified white collar profession (various) Sometimes you just gotta put him in a nonspecific grey suit. Practical, but boring. Words that could describe the man himself?

B:

Architect (Don Giovanni, La Monnaie, 2020) I'm not really sure what them specifying his profession is supposed to do for the production, considering in practice he ends up being just Anna's boytoy and hot tenor eye candy, but this is a solid choice and I could see it happening.

Whatever tf Poodle Ottavio is doing (Don Giovanni, Salzburg Festival, 2021) Is he an arctic explorer with a dog for some reason? Is he a military captain? Is he a guy in a toga with four arms? Romeo Castelluci I demand answers

A:

Artist/poet and professional sillyboy (Shaw’s Man and Superman) Okay, Tavy Robinson is not really Don Ottavio. He’s a lot more naive and adorably stupid, but I put him on the list anyway. Because Tavy is so romantic and idealistic, this works for him pretty well, although I would object if this was used for an actual Ottavio.

Just some rich guy who doesn’t work (various) Probably the most logical updated version of his original character, since noblemen don't work and billionaires don't either. He wears classy grey suits everywhere because he can and so he can look as stylish as possible constantly along with his equally stylish wife.

Undercover cop (Peter Sellars Don Giovanni) Similar to Man and Superman, I consider the Sellars prod to be a completely separate story, but this choice works very well in the story it's trying to tell, and textually, it's not the worst either. Ottavio is trying to catch and kill a criminal, and he also achieves absolutely nothing. Peak American police behavior.

S:

I had a joke here about the La Monnaie 2014 Ottavio but honestly that production portrays this relationship in such a rapey way that I really don't want to mention it as a punchline. So pretend there's something actually cool and insightful here.

This has probably been asked before, but will there ever be more continuations of The Bright Sessions universe? This show has always been so comforting to me and I can't stop thinking about what would happen after everything

Hi there! Our universe is currently complete, but in case you've only listened to the main 4 seasons of The Bright Sessions, there have been various spin-offs/continuations since then!

The AM Archives (Season 6 in the feed) - a spin-off set entirely in The AM as Joan, Owen, and Sam try to reform it. Very different genre-wise to the rest of the show, more of an action thriller, and with some new characters!

The College Tapes (Season 7 in the feed) - a spin-off set during Caleb and Adam's senior year of college. Scooby Doo style academia mystery with an overarching romance!

The Infinite Noise (Book 1 of the TBS trilogy) - a dual POV novel about Caleb and Adam falling in love and getting together. If you've ever wondered what happened right after that fateful phone call, this book has got it.

A Neon Darkness (Book 2) - a prequel novel about Damien moving to Los Angeles at 18, meeting some other atypicals, and starting on the road that will lead him to the actions he makes in the show.

Some Faraway Place (Book 3) - a novel that follows Rose through the events of Season 4 of the podcast and beyond, including finishing out Damien's story in a way the podcast does not.

The College Tapes Digital Planner (merch) - this one is kind of odd because it's a piece of merch that is no longer relevant (a planner for 2021-2022) but it does have some actual content in it past the events of The College Tapes. Caleb, Adam, and a bunch of other characters wrote in the planner, so there's some info about what all of them get up to after the show.

hey there pal, hows the weather-

i’ll cut to the chase: how do you get writing done, and how do you stay focused on your writing and not get so distracted?

Weather's pretty decent right now! Sunny and hot, which is why I don't plan on going outside for several hours, but I'll take that over thunderstorms that knock out my power for a few seconds and my wifi for longer. My dad calls it "florida flash and flicker" which is as amusing a name as it is way too accurate.

Anyway, uh. Well, I do get pretty distracted, I won't lie. I'm on here right now instead of writing. But there's a particular site I use called 4thewords that, for lack of a better description, it translates writing words into fighting monsters. With time limits. And while it really isn't a big deal if I "lose" the battle by running out of time, it's a big deal to me and it helps me stay on task.

It's a bit of a tradeoff; I've noticed that while I write significantly more on 4tw I also generally have to edit more after the fact too. But you can't edit what's not there at all.

It's also absolutely not the sort of thing that would work for everyone, but it works really well for me. I started using 4tw after I got a free extra month's subscription (it does cost money, but it's not very much, and if it's not feasible in your budget there is a community pool that you can put yourself into for other users to donate subscriptions to) thanks to beating Camp Nanowrimo in... July of 2021? I have written so much more since I got it and I genuinely cannot recommend it more.

More generally, though: it helps to set deadlines for myself, artificial or otherwise. I'm one of those people who will put off important school assignments until the last minute and then dash out a 10-20 page essay the day before it's due and somehow do okay on it, because adrenaline kicked in.

It also helps that I'm generally very passionate about the things I'm writing? Most of the people I know irl have heard about whatever gay fanfic I'm actively working on the most. I'm meeting up with my nana for lunch tomorrow and she is going to hear about the gay people whether she likes it or not. (She is also going to get this story read out loud to her dramatically because she called me when I was reading it out loud to my dad dramatically and was vaguely curious, and I like reading funny things out loud to people I like dramatically.)

...I think it also helps to focus on One Thing at a time. Which, you have presumably seen my AO3, I'm not good at doing that. But it's much easier to keep your thoughts in order if you mainly work on one longer fic at a time.

It's also much easier to keep your thoughts in order if you write things down. I didn't use to outline my writing, I started cowriting a funky crossover between Warframe and RWBY with a friend who was far more of a planner and who did drag me somewhat kicking and screaming into doing that. Taking notes is important, otherwise you run the risk of forgetting important details like which trainer has which Pokémon or if the gay dumbass you're currently writing has had any sort of revelations about that fact lately. They don't have to be organized (though it helps if they are) and they don't have to make sense to anyone but you, but if you write things down you're much less likely to forget important/cool things you came up with like two separate projects ago.

This one was one of those fics where the opening scene came into my head and took me by the throat and WOULD NOT LET ME GO.

This was one of those fics where I was like OH HEY WHAT IF HARRY AND DRACO HAD TO HAVE SEX FOR RITUAL MAGIC REASONS™ and then because I am who I am as a person, this happened, complete with So. Much. Magical. Theory.

The last thing Harry Styles expects when he's hanging out at the Someday Cafe in Somerville one rainy October day is for his ex, Louis Tomlinson to walk through the door, but that's exactly what happens. After a spectacularly ugly break-up three years prior, Harry hasn't heard one word from Louis, and he's moved on. Gotten over him. But having Louis back in his life, not to mention working at the restaurant where he's a chef, isn't easy, and the feelings that Harry thought he'd left turn out to be not so easily forgotten.

This is a story about love and the power of forgiveness, and how the hard choices we make define us, and change our lives.

This is definitely one of my OG fics. One of the first long things I posted, and one I worked really hard on and poured SO MUCH of myself into.

This is nowhere near one of my most popular works, but honestly, it's one of my favorite things I've written and I really think it's one of the best.

I'm Hot for Teacher (series)

This is probably cheating because it's 5 fics, not 1, but it's one cohesive story written for Wordplay 2021. I just really had fun with this, and I think it's the first thing I wrote in this particular way, as installments. And it's sort of a love song to academia.

i had a much more conservatively sized cup of iced coffee today (and not on an empty stomach) so fingers crossed I don't have an intense caffeine sickness like I did yesterday. Yesterday was rouuuuugh. All because of coffee, sigh.

But I did eat a banana and it gave me a tummy ache, which very ripe bananas sometimes do, and it was, so I think I have a food sensitivity to both mushrooms AND bananas. Sad because both are absolutely delicious.

I've let the kitchen get into A State again and the laundry is Backed Up again so I'm feeling kinda bad about that but also feeling too low energy (even with the caffeine????) to do anything. My planner is set up for February though and that feels really good. That's my new big creative endeavor -- setting up my planner and its monthly spreads. I need to collage more again but I've been finding that harder to do. Probably because I have SO many supplies and my journal is bursting at the seams with a lot of pages still left so it becomes hard to do.

I've left social media (as in deactivated my accounts completely) with the exception of here ... and Pinterest because suddenly I'm into amassing pretty pictures ... and uh. Nobody's noticed. Which feels shitty but also I think it's good for me to be away from FB and IG (my Twitter was deactivated in like 2021 or something). My closest friend from home hasn't answered a text from me since early December. Feeling a little paranoid and bummed out about that.

Reading Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune right now, trying to take it slow, one chapter at a time, because my goal is to read every day but if I get too voracious I run out of books. Spent $40 of my budget unplanned at the start of the month by buying three books from Walmart.

Trying to take a walk every week but the weather has been SO wacky and I've been so low energy that I think I managed to take a grand total of two since the new year. One was at the local lake and that was way longer than I thought it'd be, and the other was just up and down my mountain as usual but some freaky shit happened that weirded me out and made me buy pepper spray for all my walks from now on, so I'm also hesitant now to go hoofin' around by myself. I haven't been afraid of going anywhere by myself in decades ... I'm still not bothered about going into town or anything by myself or at night, but up on the mountain alone where there are no houses and barely any cars drive past? After that incident, nuh-uh. Though my NJ Scorpio nature does make me ready to be like EAT MACE, CUNTS if anyone tries anything.

In any case. I'm lonely. I love being with my best friend all the time and our fur babies but it does suck to not have anyone else to talk to (except my mom who typically just triggers a bad mood). I feel like a teenager again; left out, ignored, uninvited. But that's why it's so important for me to be off social media and trying to read and do creative things, as well as get the house back on track.

vinny kind of wouldn’t care how many people the trolley hits at first bc like. he never knew them Personally or anything so they don’t really matter to him. but one part of him would want the trolley to go on five people because “it would be funny” and another part of him would want the trolley to hit one person because less people get killed and he’s a lot more considerate about not hurting Actual Human Beings than demons (he doesn’t really show others that side of him though + he doesn’t really think about Bein Nice to people for most of the story)

mae tries her best to plan (she frequently sets reminders n crap) but usually she forgets what to do or decides to not do what she originally had planned earlier

ive had the idea of lance for a very long time (since crit dmg’s early development in 2021) and the first thing ive decided about him was that he was some dude that used to be associated with ENDS and wore a yellow scarf (bc haha funny primary color things)

some major inspo for him includes henry from no more heroes, fifteen from katana zero (kz is a very good game btw go play it if you’re interested), and aki from chainsaw man. as for design inspo mr. doppelganger from travis strikes again contributed a lot to his design (ESPECIALLY with the scarf + long coat combo and his heterochromia)

💢 ANGER - what are some habits they have that will take some getting used to?

wow these answers are becoming very vinny-centric!! anyways i don’t know if this would count as a habit but vinny really has to get used to bein fuckin nice to people for once. like come on dude you’re like protecting people now you really don’t need to be assholes to em yknow!! i imagine most of his character arc involves taking his job more seriously and learning how to be more comfortable with showing kindness to others. at the end of his arc hes still VERY into beating up demons but he mostly does it for his friends and the people that live in turnstyle yknow (at the VERY least he’s still snarky and has that edgy anti hero attitude but more nice in the end)

How many fics have you written?

Ones that I’ve posted on my current AO3 - 27, across a few fandoms. I did have a previous AO3, which included more.

When did you publish your first fic on AO3?

On my original AO3 account, my first fic was published in 2014 - a Sherlock fic, featuring Greg and Molly. I wrote my first Schitt's Creek fic October 2021 - only 8 months ago?! Feels like longer!

Describe your writing process from “Oh, I have an idea” to pushing publish on AO3. 

My process usually starts with a random idea popping into my head, or seeing a prompt or situation that sparks my interest. I have a notebook that I scribble quick notes into, adding others around it until I run out of space! I have a lot of ideas that have yet to make it to full fics!

I’m more of a ‘pantser’ than a planner when writing - that is, I’ll start writing without a plan, more of a vague outline. I love seeing where my thoughts and writing will take me. Some fics will be posted straight away, with minimal editing - these are usually my short quick fics. Others I like to mull over and edit a few times. I usually write and post chapter by chapter; it’s rare for me to write a whole multi chapter fic first and then post a chapter at a time. 

Tell me about your most recent fic? What do you love about it? Is there anything you think you could have done better?

My most recent fic was Revealing the Shy Canadian Cowboy. I love the world of the ranch - all the wide open spaces and the peace and quiet, and Patrick’s found family. This fic originally had a more detailed plan but I discovered that I wanted to write it differently as I went along - I felt too constrained by the plan and lost my inspiration for it for a little while. Maybe some more details in some of the chapters? but honestly I try not to think about what I might have done differently or better once the fic’s out there!

My most recent fic is bicycles, which is a Sherlock fic featuring Mycroft HolmesxGreg Lestrade, who are my other pair of lovely soft boys. Based upon the prompt word bicycles given to me by a fellow Mystrade fan, I went through various possibilities and scenarios, jotting down ideas as they came to me.There was no plan or outline for this fic; once I found an idea that sparked, I started writing and kept going! What I love about this fic is getting inside the POV character’s thoughts, his state of mind, his feelings and reactions. And the slowly unfolding realisation that he is still very much in love!  I had set myself a limit of 500-1000 words and this one decided it needed more than that, it comes in at just over 2000! 

What advice would you give to someone who’s thinking about publishing their fic for the first time?

Go for it! When I published my first fic I was really nervous. I read it and reread it until I finally worked up the courage to post it. Remember that you’re writing for yourself, you’re writing the fic you want to read, and that’s what matters!

If you work with a beta, what sort of feedback is most helpful? Do you always work with the same beta or do you have more than one?

I don’t currently work with a beta (if anyone fancies the job, please do let me know!) I have in the past and found it really helpful to have another pair of eyes read for me, helping me with the technical stuff - plot holes, sentences that don’t make sense, spelling, grammar.

Do your IRL friends and family know you write fic?

No. During the (many!) years I've been writing, I’ve mostly kept it to myself. Some of my friends and family know I write original stories, but I rarely share them. I have shared fics with online friends who aren’t on tumblr or AO3 themselves. 

Tell me about your current WIP if you have one.

I have a few WIPs on the go at the moment. One of them is about boy band Patrick who becomes besties with Alexis and through her he meets David (though he isn’t boy band Patrick for very long in the fic!). Another is an Outer Range AU series of fics, featuring various characters as teenagers causing chaos!  [Editor’s note: onegirlandherpen’s boy band series is the boy's on fire and the Outer Range series is Chaos and Mayhem at Amelia High]

Tell me about a fic you’ve read that always makes you cry?

‘My heart was broke, my head was sore’ by blueink3 - the angst and the romance is so beautifully done.

Oh, and ‘If Dreams were Lightning and Thunder Desire by houdini74, because sad and happy and so romantic!

What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you about writing?

A piece of advice I read (I’ve forgotten where!) - Start by just getting the words down on the page; think of it like shovelling sand into the sandbox, you can make the castles later!

this is Meichun! A Anemo Catalyst! Her family own a wedding planner business and she works as a matchmaker to help with business! Though she’s good at setting people up she does have struggles with her own love life. She does have an eye on a certain musician in Liyue Harbour but is too much in the friendzone to do anything about it

I've separated these fics into a few distinct eras, because I think the show's long-running status has impacted characterization over time -- not to say that older fics aren't still worth reading, but there might be some things that are different (e.g. pre-V4 there was a lot of speculation that Blake was an orphan, pre-V8 there were a lot of V7 ending fix-its and such). Tossing you in the deep end with ship names sorry you're going to have to figure it out yourself <3

Ruby is a servant of Salem. Weiss followed in her sister's footsteps. Blake never left the White Fang. Yang was raised by Raven as the Spring Maiden. None of Team RWBY ever made it to Beacon, yet Team RWBY still formed... albeit under different circumstances.

Fascinating that Weiss would, in most circumstances, be the worst leader for team RWBY -- but under these circumstances, she has to be.

Okay so I’ve had this prompt(?)/idea(?)/plot outline(?) stuck in my mind ever since Black Panther gave me Erik “Killmonger” Stevens🥺 to drool over so here it goes:

• Post CW: Peter and Tony have been together for almost 2 years, Peter’s convinced their endgame cuz they’re both so in love. WRONG, Peter discovers that Tony’s been cheating on him with Steve for the past 6 months when Tony moans Steve’s name during sex.

• Tony tries to apologize, excuses start flying out his ass, “Baby you know you’re the only one for me.” Peter, against his better judgement, relents and they try to make it work.

• Not even a week goes by, he walks in on Tony and Steve. Tony tries to appease him but NOPE, Peter packs his bags and leaves.

• On May’s suggestion, Peter goes on sabbatical to Oakland where he decides to volunteer at the Wakandan embassy. There he starts to heal and stuff. Then, he gets the chance to actually go to Wakanda for immersion.

• In Wakanda he meets the newly healed and inducted prince N’Jadaka (Erik). It’s rough at first, Erik is closed off and Peter’s just starting to find himself again but they make it work. They complement each other and they’re beautiful together.

• 4 years later, SI is in need of Vibranium so Pepper and Tony, who’s not looking so great cuz him and Steve are just not okay, travel to Wakanda to negotiate with the Foreign Relations co chair and COO of the Wakandan Vibranium Distribution

• They arrive in a lavish conference room, set up their presentation/proposal, the door opens and a Dora Milajae announces the arrival of “the soon-to-be Prince Consort of Wakanda, the fiancée of Prince N’Jadaka, the Foreign Relations co chair and the COO of the WVD, Dr. Peter Benjamin Parker.”

• “Good morning ladies and gentlemen, shall we start the presentation? I have a meeting with our wedding planner and a cake tasting this afternoon. Who knew planning for a royal wedding was going to be so much work?” Everybody present laughs except for Tony.

• Because there in front of Tony is the man whose heart he broke looking absolutely breathtaking with a dazzling smile on his face and his heart aches remembering how much he fucked this up not just for himself but also for SI.

It happened. The one thing that Tony tried to warn everyone about. “A suit of armor around the world”, that’s what they needed but no one NO ONE believed him and it cost him the one thing THE ONE THING he couldn’t live without. THE ONE THING he’d burn the whole world for.

Two years. Two blissful, mind numbingly wonderful years became the film reel he’d see every damn time he closed his eyes. Whispers beneath black silk sheets. Smiles reserved only for him surrounded by his creations, Their children. Declarations of “It’s going to be You and Me together Baby, always.” Hazelnut eyes sparkling with intelligence, wit, and love. The Love he lost in a planet lightyears away from home. Gooey caramel eyes that looked at him with so much adoration and warmth. So desperate to feel a smidgen of that warmth again, he plunged right back into old habits.

“Tony, you need to stop this! You’re killing yourself!” Tony looked at her, tumbler creaking under the weight of his hand. The woman he thought he loved years ago. Ha! She couldn’t even accept the biggest part of him. Couldn’t look at the symbol of his determination and perseverance to live. No, He was the only one who truly loved him but He’s gone now, he failed Him. Dust in a small alabaster jar on his nightstand. A reminder that He loved him as fiercely as He protected the city that raised Him.

“Why don’t we go away for a little while Tony. Some place quite just the two of us huh? Please for me.” Please for Me. Please for Me. PLEASE FOR ME. Tony, let’s go grab dinner. We’ve been stuck on this equation for 10 hours. Come on, please for Me. Everything imploded. Arms suddenly embraced him. Sinking on his knees and letting the grief wash over his soul, at least what remained of it after Titan. Tony relented, succumbed to the comfort he didn’t love.

Nobody knew of course. To everyone else, Tony Stark didn’t lose anyone of importance to him. They had no fucking idea that the Heart he finally had after decades of iron and pain and false affection turned to crumbled in front of his eyes, Dust in a small alabaster jar on his nightstand.

The house by the lake was what Tony envisioned the first time He said, “You know, I love New York. I’m tied to her but sometimes I just want to put my feet up, lounge on a swing by the porch looking out to a lake with you by my side.” He would’ve loved it here. His Nymph, his little Sunflower Prince. This would’ve been Their paradise, His meadow, the house he built for Him beside the lake He imagined, porch swing included.

She didn’t let him bring anything he could work on. “No distractions, please. You need to rest.” That’s what she insisted on. She could try and take away, his projects, holograms, ban him from his workshop, but she could never take away the old Starkphone with busted up screen from him. “This isn’t a distraction! It’s my Lifeline Pep!” A Lifeline filled with conversations of forever, images of those two years, and His voice. She tried to fight him for it but she backed off eventually, said “okay Tony” and went back to her calls. Her worked distracted her enough from realizing that he had another lifeline strapped to his thigh for safekeeping.

“Tony, come on. I know you want it, need it even.” It became a routine a few weeks after she sequestered him in the middle of nowhere. “No Pep. I don’t want it. I don’t need it. I have my own room for a reason.” A conversation repeated almost everyday now with the same words said, the same responses given. And every time she sulks, flounces around house, clattering pots, pouting, looking at him with glassy ice blue eyes, he apologizes like it’s his fault he doesn’t want to touch her like that. Can’t even stomach anyone touching him like how his Heart used to.

He sleeps, he eats, he tries to survive. She “dotes” on him, tries to get him to open up, then tries to distract him with SI work because “the company still employs thousands of people Tony. We can’t all be stuck in our grief.” With nothing to drown himself with, he relents. Works on improving tech for Stark now that “Tony’s had time to grieve and he’s going back to work Mr. Walker, don’t worry I’ll make sure of it.”

They celebrate the company hitting another milestone 1 year, 7 months, 16 days after Titan, after the snap, after he put Dust in a small alabaster jar on his nightstand. Stark giving the world a breakthrough in first response equipment. A biodegradable easy to use adhesive for wounds based on His formula. A formula tucked away in the servers he made for Him. Servers she had no right snooping around in. “This could help a lot of people Tony. Relief operations, rescue missions they’re still happening. SI could aid in those efforts.” He wasn’t convinced, this was His. His creation and no one but Him should decide what to do with it but he’s gone, Dust in a small alabaster jar on his nightstand. “Okay” he yields.

“This is great Tony. We’re still on top of almost all major fields. Stark is still the powerhouse we built despite everything that’s happened. And you’re finally coming out of your funk. Here, I know you shouldn’t but since it’s a special occasion you can have a glass or two.” One glass, two, three, four. One bottle, two, three, four. He sat there, throat burning, vision blurring, his whole world spinning, it was nice feeling warm again, even just a little bit. He wants nothing more than to keep floating, drifting like he did in the Benatar. No expectations, no deadlines, no pressure, just him and memories of his Heart.

Then a weight on his lap disturbs his peace. Arms around his neck, hands on his hair, chapped lips on his. “It’s okay Tony. I know what you need. Don’t worry I’ll take care of everything. We’ll be a family, I’ll make us a beautiful family. You and me together, always.” He screams, “GET THE FUCK OFF ME!” Shoves his arms forward and scrambles to the corner of the room. Back pressed against the wall, nanites crawling up from his thigh to his outstretched arms, gauntlets ready to fire. “WHAT THE FUCK TONY! We were finally going to be together again!” This bitch, THIS BITCH! “What the fuck? WHAT THE FUCK?! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU WERE DOING?! I TOLD YOU! I told you NO YOU BITCH! NO!”

“TONY! I’m trying to help you! THIS, ALL THIS I can fix it for you. WE can fix this, all you have to do is let me take care of you the way you need it.”

“THE WAY I NEED IT?! And you think what?! Everything’ll be okay after we fuck?! Is that it?!”

“No! We’re going to make love the way we used to. Tony, I love you so much, I just want to help you, let me help you.”

“Tony you don’t mean that! You’re just confused, we weren’t together when you were up there, I’m still here Tony. We can even be a family now. No more Iron Man or Avengers distracting you. We can finally make a life together, a family. Don’t you want that?”

“My Heart isn’t you Potts. It never was. I don’t even want you to know who He was after what you pulled you selfish bitch! The only family I want is the one I built with Him! Just like how I want to live in this house, the house I built FOR HIM, WITH HIM!”

Seething, he was seething. It was clear, even to Rhodey whenever she let him visit, that he held no affection let alone love for her. He thought she was safe, but he should’ve known. Should’ve realized all those times she insisted she take care of him that way. How could he be so stupid.

“Tony, please you have to understand, I’m doing this for US. I won’t let you ruin the life I made for us here. I won’t let you!”

“What life?! I was trying to survive my grief, these months weren’t us making a life together. I needed a place to grieve the Love I lost and you INSISTED on being there for me but what did you do? You took away my suit, Rhodey has to go through you before he can visit me, you only let me use the workshop because you thought I just needed to suck it up and make SI more money! This isn’t life, this is a prison! And I was soo stupid not to realize the shit you were pulling.”

He had to leave. He had to be safe, so he fired at the wall across him and ran up to take the last thing that was His. Dust in a small alabaster jar clutched safe in his hands, the suit engulfed him and before he could reach him FRIDAY freed him from the prison she made.

“I’m so sorry Baby, don’t worry I’m gonna make sure that We’re going to be safe from now on. FRIDAY set a course for the compound, alert everyone I’m coming back.”

The field was littered with the remains of the team he once considered his family, a family that he was trying to mend because the world needed them. You’re so much more than who you mask yourself with Tony. You’ve always been kind, generous, you gave the world a hope unlike any other. And I AM SO PROUD of you for doing this. Nobody moved when he landed but when the nanites retreated, their eyes saw everything. The grief he tried to survive, the pain that bled through every bone in his body, they could all see it now. Laid bare, hands clutched around the Dust in a small alabaster jar, he wept.

“It’s okay Tones, FRIDAY told us, it’s going to be okay, you’re here now, you’re safe.”

The days passed but the hollowness didn’t, everything was still painful but he was starting to hope now. He didn’t think he’d ever get to the point where he would function without his Heart but he was trying, it’s what He would’ve wanted. I’m not going to pretend that I know how difficult this must be for you Tony but you are doing the right thing. It’s scary, I’d be peeing my pants if I was in your shoes, but you can get through this. I’m gonna be with you every step of the way.

Post CW Avengers where Alphas Steve and Bucky pull a Clint-with-the-secret-family and bring the entire team to hide out in their upstate NY home but forgetting to inform their former HYDRA Spider/Red Room’s only begotten Son/Herald of Death Omega Peter that they’re bringing guests over.

“You know, when I told you boys you could bring work home with you sometimes, I meant you could bring paperwork or evidence you need to study, not bring your entire team over because the villain of the week blew up the compound.” An unknown voice rings loud and clear in the hull of the Quinjet startling the already agitated heroes.

After a moment of stunned silence, Tony peeps out, “Um, hello? Hi! Who are you?”

The voice responds cooly, “Ask the Alphas whose knots are in danger of being fodder for the pigs.”

“Heeey babydoll! Um We know this isn’t the best time to do this but we thought the team could spend a few days at ours?” Steve, who apparently knows the owner of the voice, reasons. The Captain fiddles with his hands and throws a sheepish smile towards one of the cameras.

“Don’t you babydoll me Steven Grant. We agreed that the pups and I are off limits to your crew until we’re all ready. This is a clear violation of what we agreed on.” ‘Babydoll’ bites out.

Bucky opens his mouth to respond but is cut off by a flailing Tony, “Wait wait wait! Hold on! Babydoll? Pups? What the actual fuck is going on right now?”

Bucky stares at Steve, a whole conversation happens with their eyes. Steve widens his eyes at Bucky and the latters sighs heavily. With a pinch of his nose he says gesturing to the ceiling and then towards the team, “Um so everyone this is Steve’s and I’s mate, Peter. Peter, darlin’, this is the team.”

Peter, who seems to be more exasperated now than displeased responds, “I would like to say it’s a pleasure but considering the circumstances it’s quite unfortunate that this is how our family’s introduced to all of you.” He sighs and calls out to Steve and Bucky, “Steven, James, KAREN’ll take care of the landing protocols. Make sure not to agitate any of the plasma cannons near the fences, I’d prefer it that I’m the one that gets to blast you both for this.”

Both super soldiers let out a relieved breath, “We’ll make it up to you sweetheart. We promise.”

“Oh you better or else you both can get ready sleeping with the horses for at least a month.”
