Polypropylene Perspectives: Navigating Trends in the Global Polypropylene Market
Polypropylene is a thermoplastic produced from a mixture of propylene monomers. It is utilized in a range of applications including packing for consumer items, plastic components for several businesses such as textiles, the automotive industry, and special devices like living hinges. Polypropylene was first polymerized in 1952 by two petroleum experts named Robert Banks and Paul Hogan and later…

I like the Pixling dolls a lot, they're very cute and fantastical (and not high school based, ha ha ha), but I just wish they didn't come with such wasteful packaging. Haven't bought any because of this, but would love to find some while thrifting.

Scientists offer strong carbon plastics for aviation
Employees of the Institute of Chemistry of Kazan Federal University and the Kazan National Research Technical University have produced especially strong carbon plastics based on phosphate binders that can withstand temperatures of more than 500 degrees Celsius. The findings are published in the journal Composites Part A: Applied Science and Manufacturing. "Composite materials are used very widely today: almost everything is made of them, starting from hockey sticks and ending with airplanes. The vast majority of composites are created using organic polymer binders, which have many positive features, but have two significant drawbacks: they are flammable and work up to temperatures of 300–450 degrees Celsius maximum. "At the same time, the use of composites, for example, in aviation or astronautics, and in many 'earthly' areas, requires non-combustible materials capable of withstanding high (over 500 degrees Celsius) temperatures. We have solved this difficult problem by using inorganic binders," says Rustem Amirov, Chair of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry, Lead Research Associate of the Laboratory of Polymer Smart Materials and Nanocomposites of the Institute of Chemistry.

I haven't been around as much lately, but that's mostly because I got a new job! My stepdad has a small business that's finally starting to take off, and he hired me on! I don't think I ever expected to go into small-scale manufacturing, but I like working with my hands and my art background is actually proving really useful, it keeps me active and there's enough variety of tasks that it's not boring... Anyway, I think it's going to work out really well and I'm excited! 😊

Just a little note about my art materials.
I DO NOT use real animal fur in my art plush.
If you are already aware, great! You can go about your day. For more info or the reasons for this announcement, read more. (CW frustration, rant. Discussion around real fur vs fake fur and people attacking before they read.)
I am not vegan, but I feel a special level of frustration when people immediately assume I'm using real fur (or worse "dead animals") to make my plushies. Especially when I clearly say I'm using "faux fur" and "fabric" in my posts/captions. Faux means "fake" and real fur (i.e. pelts) is not fabric.
Ignorance is totally fine. Not everyone has access to the knowledge or experience to differentiate real vs fake fur. BUT I expect everyone who comments to be capable of reading the caption first.
Beyond people not reading, though, it's the immediate assumption that I'm a murderer or something, as if realistic things can't possibly be fake. And then sometimes jumping straight into attacking me over it instead of taking four seconds to read what I already wrote about it.
It creates drama where there is none. It's unnecessary, manufactured outrage for no reason. I'm just here to chill and share my fiber arts that I work incredibly hard to make look real, but very much aren't.
Tumblr media
I make realistic, FAKE animals so that people who don't want to be irresponsible by cuddling a living (or dead) exotic can still experience holding a realistic replica. Since they're soft and weighted, they are also immensely comforting for anxious or neurodivergent people.
Faux fur gives me the freedom to make any animal, real or not, in virtually any color. Real fur, on the other hand, is prohibitively expensive, limited in "design" and color, and terribly, woefully difficult to sew (it's literally leather under the hairs). Besides I have a moral objection to cutting up pelts to be used for fashion or other non-essential items, except for indigenous or extreme climate cultures.
That said, not all my plush are 100% vegan. Some contain horse hairs as whiskers. These are ethically collected and sourced from a Native American small business. If needed, I can remove them upon buyer's request. At least until I find a synthetic alternative.
So from here out I'll just be weeding out people who act before they read because I'm getting very tired of it across every social media site I'm on. It's like 3-4 comments on every post now, everywhere. I'd assume it was trolls except for how sheepish people act when I reply that it's fake. I should be flattered they think it's real but mostly I'm just tired of fighting drama fires.
Anyhow. Thank you for your time. Let me know if y'all want to see a real vs fake fur educational post. Even if you are vehemently against real fur, it would serve you well to know the difference so you can make educated decisions.

"I liked it," Dorian shrugged affably as he drained the last of his glass as he continued to tuck into his shrimp etouffee, admitting, "Probably one of the few lessons I actually enjoyed, if only because it got me outside for a bit, and that I quite liked my horse, very sweet girl named Lilac. Father took it all very seriously, of course, but I much preferred to go on slower, more leisurely rides, especially since the lessons were so early in the morning."
"I envied him fiercely," Elizabeth confessed with a little grin, saying, "I loved horses growing up, I loved taking care of them in the stables, and I sincerely wished I could have learned to ride too. Lilac was the sweetest of all the horses the Gracey's had, she loved me-even if she did have the naughty habit of sticking her snout in his pockets in search of sugar cubes!"
"You think those ghost horses out in front of the house would mind being taken for a ride? Might be a nice change of pace from being hitched to the hearse," Randall asked curiously-while said horses appeared invisible to the mortal guests, they were ethereal, skeletal mounts to the ghosts of Gracey Manor, tethered to the foreboding-looking hearse outside of the Mansion (Dorian's own funeral hearse, actually). They seldom got a chance to stretch their legs, and might welcome the change all the same.
And Dorian agreed, nodding a little as he smiled, "That might not be a bad idea! You just might get that chance to learn after all, Emily."
"Count me in too!" Wilhelm grinned, a little delighted at the idea of taking lessons alongside his daughter-in-law, while June smiled happily for her husband, before turning to her parents, asking, "What about you, Mother, Father? Would you be interested in learning?"
"Ah, no, thank you," August smiled shyly; spotting Lon and Erika's quizzical looks (especially Erika-who wouldn't want to learn to ride a pretty horsey?), Josephine elaborated, "Your granddaddy got spooked by a horse once, when we were courting."
"Spooked?" Lon echoed, as his grandfather elaborated, "Yes, your grandmother and I were out one afternoon in the park, and she had left to feed some of the birds congregating there, while I stayed back, I'd been thinking of buying us something to drink and, uh, a horse came up from behind me, very quietly, I have to say, leaned over my shoulder, and, uh...ate the carnation I had in my lapel."
"The poor dear fainted!" Josephine recalled, squeezing her husband's arm adoringly as she thought back to that day: The horse had eloped from its job ferrying young lovers around the park in a carriage and decided August's carnation would make a lovely snack, startling her beau so badly that he dropped like a sack of bricks. When he came to, his head was in Josephine's lap as she gently fanned him with her handkerchief, relieved to see he was alright after yet another tumble.

this is my old woman moment of the day and it's happening at barely 7 am but I have spent the past hour searching for clear rubber phone cases. with which to protect my device. I decided on rubber after bad experiences with other materials. I have firmly made up my mind I would like the case to be clear and made of rubber and suitable for an android. and I simply cannot get through the apple ads to find this item. I think it all should be less difficult

STATIONERY RAMBLE AHEAD IM AUTISTIC SO BEWARB
i really wanna make shitajikis (writing boards) for my store and for conventions but its such a weird specific thing!!! i only just learned about how theres like collectors out there for short runs of shitajikis with anime art on em and i really like using mine for writing and drawing so now i really wanna make them with MY art on em!!!
BUT ough auhgijk is that too  specific. is that too niche. like ik theres folks that just collect them to display them so its kind of like an expensive plastic print and like. ive SEEN lenticular prints at cons before so i feel like there is at least some evidence of plastic prints being something worth making but. stationery fans help me rationalize my need to make this

like ok for those of u that arent sure what this is: its like a flexible but sturdy plastic sheet that you can use under the page you’re writing on to create a nicer writing surface and stabilize the page (esp if ur near the end of the book and dont have a lot of paper to rely on for cushioning) PLUS they can have rulers or grids on them to help line up writing or measure stuff and ahh i love them. i like the little tab that hobonichis have too like a bookmark/page keeper
Tumblr media
im still struggling with how to make them (plastic printing is expensive) and im kinda figuring out either some sort of print-at-home brand of plastic or doing a sticker on some plastic sheets that i then cut to size or something but my goal is something solid and waterproof that’ll last and grr i’m gonna figure it out aaaah

while probably not that significant in the scale of things, i consider collecting plastic objects, (especially if you are dedicated to a single company's plastic objects,) to be morally abhorrent. i am not sure if you will be welcomed into the kingdom of heaven if you engage in this behavior as a grown ass adult

Whyyyyyyyyy do companies insist on making bedsheets that are cotton mixed with a plastic like polyester!!!! When I ask for cotton bedsheets I mean I want 100% cotton bedsheets not 52% polyester 48% cotton!! Like I get that cotton is not that environmentally friendly in terms of water use but at least once the bedsheets reach the end of their life they can be recycled easily or composted because it’s an organic material. Also I have cotton bedsheets that are genuinely decades old and they’re still going strong and they’ve been used and washed a lot! So I know that good quality bedsheets will last a very long time and they feel much nicer

New research on 3D-printed materials toward future generations of stronger, lighter plastics
A new analysis of the deformation mechanisms which cause 3D-printed materials to fail under strain could help create future generations of stronger, lighter plastics, unlocking transformative benefits for industry. Engineers in the UK and Italy are behind the research, which provides unprecedented insight into the delicate balance of structural factors at play in the design and construction of lattice materials—honeycomb-like cellular structures which combine light weight with impressive strength and energy absorption abilities. The team developed a design parameter called the "enhancement factor," which provides a reliable way to predict how new lattice designs can be fine-tuned to minimize structural defects and maximize performance.
