Do you, too, feel a fondness for gnc Link? Any and all of them!
Hm, I'll be honest, I've been thinking about this ask for a bit and I don't quite get what you mean by gnc Link.
My best guess is the GBC/GBA Zelda games. If that's what you meant, then absolutely! I'm currently playing Minish Cap (I've been taking my time to enjoy the game ^^). Next on my list is alttp and after that I'll probably play the Oracle games (...again. Never got too far before but I'll definitely beat them this time!)
If that's not what you meant, then could you clarify?

How many of the Zelda games have you played? Which one is your favourite? And if you could live in any place in any of the Zelda games which would you choose?
OOF almost all of them. It’s actually easier to tell you which I HAVENT played lmfao
Okay so looking at this:
Tumblr media
The only ones I haven’t played are Link’s Awakening, and both Oracle games.
Wind Waker remains my all time favorite. I love Twilight Princess a lot too, but Wind Waker is really special.
If I had to LIVE in one of them though I think I’d choose Tears of the Kingdom :)

Recent drawing and it's Minish Cap ! I've been playing this game for the first time and I'm loving it !
I drew this when I was in a sort of art block. It's the first full illustration that I liked in a long time :')
Also don't worry ! I'm now beginning to like my art again, it's a slow process but I know I'm finally going somewhere !

Nothing like watching your sweet sensei take apart Vaati without batting an eye.
I saw that reference image and IMMEDIATELY knew what I had to do with it. I’ve been working on this for an AGE and I know the og image says Super Mario Land but I figured it was a good time to shout out my favourite GBA game of all time, 🦆Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap🦆. I first played it multiple times to completion on the PSP and then later on a GBA emulator on my pc after our PSP died on us. I still love it to bits to this day 💖
Also you can see how I figured I liked the image more when it was flipped and then had to flip Kakashi’s hair and scar to be accurate. Also drew myself a little Kakashi face ✨as a treat✨ before I covered it with the mask
[ID: Naruto fanart of genin Team 7 plus Kakashi crowding around Iruka, who's playing on a Game Boy with an eyebrow raised. The kids look intense and impressed, Kakashi's leaning down to watch with an arm around Sakura, and Iruka's hair is down. The background is taken from Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. Image two zooms in further on everyone's faces.
Image three is the reference, a photo of four kids standing around their mother on a Gameboy, captioned "A mom helping her kids beat a hard level in Super Mario Land, 1990s." The last three images are progress photos of the art. End ID] (many many thanks to @princess-of-purple-prose for the description, I’ll add these to what I have up and to the rest of my art too, going forward!)

Something I’m a little sad about when I play newer games in the Zelda series is the de-emphasization of the Deku Scrub. When you play Ocarina and Majora, Dekus are everywhere. The leader of the Kokiri is the Great Deku Tree, you encounter a lot of Deku Scrubs here and there on your journey, and you interact with a lot of Dekus in the first part of Majora’s story.
By Wind Waker however, both the Kokiri and the Dekus are nowhere to be found, implied to have collectively evolved into the Koroks, and none of it returned for Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, or even Breath of the Wild, which notably did go out of its way to have both the Zora and the Rito, who supplanted the Zoras in Wind Waker. Personally, I’ve always loved the Dekus. Particularly in Majora’s Mask, they offer such a wide range of fun designs, and while some of that is there with the weirder Korok designs in Breath of the Wild, like Hestu, it feels like something is missing.
Tumblr media
The Koroks seem to have no culture, they just kind of hang out. The Dekus were more three-dimentional, almost kind of duplicitous. Many of the Dekus in Ocarina were merchants, and the ones in Majora were usually acting on self-interest. It makes the koroks feel very flat by comparison. By now, the Dekus are a footnote in the Zelda series, having only appeared in two major games. The Great Deku Tree itself has reappeared regularly, but the Dekus remain stuck on the N64 and their 3DS remakes, outside of a minor appearance in the Oracles games and Minish Cap. It’s too bad, cause the Zoras and the Gorons have reappeared many times, and had chances to evolve their culture, but the Dekus were left behind.
Deku Link is cute tho

gog i still can't get over minish cap vaati's Everything. He is So Fucking Stupid (affectionate)
Like. This guy's establishing character moment is, in order:
he's introduced as having won an entire tournament to get to touch a magic chest and get a cool sword, which was the prize for said tournament
turns around and does a goddamn evil soliloquy TEN FEET AWAY FROM THE GUARDS who were about to hand him his macguffin on a platter
(like this man fucks up his own horribly planned daylight heist because he cannot keep a lid on the dramatics for FIVE FUCKING MINUTES, IN PUBLIC)
(THE BAR WAS ON THE FLOOR VAATI, FUCKING GANONDORF PLAYS THE PIPE ORGAN FOR HIS OWN BOSS INTRO AND HE STILL KNOWS BETTER THAN THIS SHIT)
proceeds to fight the guards (it is, admittedly, a curbstomp for him, but it still clearly wasn't his plan, because otherwise why bother with the tournament)
gloats evilly
opens chest, unleashing a whole bunch of monsters
exposits out loud about Zelda's powers like a nerd while she is actively charging up her magic powers to kick his ass
RECOGNIZES and IDENTIFIES said magic as the special power carried by the female royal line
completely fails to recognize it as the light force he is currently trying to get his hands on (he spends like 99% of the game not figuring this out.)
petrifies her
(i have no idea if link could have deflected this spell if he had managed to get the right angle with his shield but i like to think somewhere there is a very short and very funny alternate timeline where it happens)
(more importantly: no part of vaati's original presumed plan would have involved doing this. he 100% created this situation for himself by being an dramatic idiot and picking a fight for no good reason.)
looks in the chest
there's no light force
considering his stated goals he might be as confused as you are about the monsters tbh
uhhh
evil laugh
teleports the fuck out
He then proceeds to spend the rest of the game trying to figure out where the light force is and ends up having to wait for Ezlo and Link to figure it out first because he was, as far as I can tell, GENUINELY stuck on this part. He fucking kidnaps and impersonates the King, not for access to Zelda, but to… send guards to go look for the Light Force, presumably because he was either running out of ideas or genuinely thought that would work.
None of the guards even had any idea what he was talking about. He's not even good at impersonating the King. He's already sent like twenty people to the dungeon by the time you get there and it hasn't even been a week. Somehow the game spins this as a cunning plan and clever manipulation or something.
(Meanwhile the guards are just. Poking around in random bushes and shit hoping to find the light force. One of them asks you what you think it might look like.)
Zelda is literally right next to the throne and Vaati does not figure it out until you find an actual honest-to-goodness LORE TABLET spelling out that the Light Force is Stored in the Zelda, at which point he's like "ahahaha you've done my work for me this was definitely my plan all along" and takes over the castle and throws a bunch of monsters at you to stall for time while he figures out how to extract the force from her. Somehow he still doesn't think to actually lock the fucking door.

Okay SO. Theory Rush after finishing Tears of the Kingdom. Go.
The Zonai are said to have descended from the heavens to help found Hyrule. I can think of another race that descended from the heavens. Do you guys think the minish are native to the Zonai sky islands?
Does the Depths set look a little familiar to you? This along with Josha's theory that people once lived down there, I wonder if the interlopers were present in the Depths before being banished to the twilight realm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The architecture and robot designs from Skyward Sword have a distinct Zonai look to them! So that leads me to believe the Zonai were the race that created the Lanayru Mining Facility.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It might even be that the Past from Skyward Sword is indeed the time period that Zelda was transported back to! Maybe the legacy of the kingdom of Hyrule goes back even further than the fight between Hylia and Demise: though I admit the early appearance of Demon King Ganondorf throws a wrench in this theory.
About secret stones and the amber relics in Skyward Sword: I want to say there's a connection between them, though amber relics don't seem to be as rare and important as secret stones, (we find them in abundance in Skyward Sword and they don't do much). Of course, i haven't played SS in a while so if they have any more significance it's escaping me at the moment. For the time being I'd like to think ancient hylians might have carried them around as good luck charms to emulate secret stones of their own.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Legend of the Great Sky Island mini quest in has the construct telling us that the island was supposed to be where a hero will one day awaken to defeat the Demon King. I know our Link wakes up on this island, but there's definitely something eating at my brain about the Great Sky Island being related to (or perhaps even IS) Skyloft, and that the awakening of the hero is referring to Skyward Sword Link. (This potentially supports the theory that the Past in TOTK predates the war between Hylia and Demise)
There's a pretty good chance that Rauru and Sonia's child could have been named Zelda, after the sweet time traveling girl they practically adopted :) the first princess of Hyrule named after the last princess of Hyrule.
There is a giant dragon skeleton in the Gerudo Desert Depths, big as or even bigger than Farosh, Dinraal and Naydra. It is my belief that this mystery dragon became a dragon ala Secret Stone alongside the three aboveland, but was killed at some point in the Depths. I don't know what four people decided to become dragons, but my strongest theory is that Dinraal, Farosh and Naydra are the draconified forms of the oracles of the Golden Goddesses, Din, Farore and Nayru. So who is this?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Seeing as the Lightroots underground are activated via Zonai hand terminal and each Lightroot lies directly beneath a shrine on the surface, I think the Lightroots are extensions of these shrines, having grown straight downward to light up the underground. This is probably obvious but I just barely figured this out 😅
Since Rauru, sage of light, and a new Temple of Time are in this game, I want to think that this person and location are more than just Easter Eggs to Ocarina of Time. I think that the sage from Ocarina of Time was named after King Rauru, though I'm not sure whether him being the sage of light would have been a coincidence or a direct inspiration.
What I do think is that he indeed did put the triforce in that very same Temple of Time and all the sky islands went to the Sacred Realm until Tears of the Kingdom, when they came back to earth and appeared in the sky. That's just a theory but why else would the sky islands be reappearing as if from nowhere?
Speaking of which, there were floating masses in the sky in Minish Cap, namely great big stone temples and fortresses. Minish Cap takes place during the early days of Hyrule, which would be pretty much right after the Zonai descended. Perhaps the Zonai are the Wind Tribe mentioned, and the people we see in game are their descendants, who look much more hylian than Zonai due to being crossed with full hylian genetics over the generations?
Anyway I need to retouch up on my Zelda lore to make sure I'm getting the details right, (that, and i haven't yet 100% the game so i may be missing some totk context), but I HAD to post my thoughts and get them out there! I'll add on later if I think of any more, in the meantime feel free to brainstorm!

Late as always, but here are something’s about update part 7 Dawn
For some reason this gives me JoJo Bizarre Adventure vibes.
Tumblr media
( you can hear the silent "bitch”)
Listen to Time kid’s! The amount of Rupees I lost because of that scam “mini game” is embarrassing…
Tumblr media
( For those who never played OoT. As Teen!Link you get to race the Running Man/Postman from Gerudo Canyon to the bridge in the Lost Woods. Link will always lose, no matter how fast you try to get there or if you cheat, the Running Man will always be there first. That Bastard will also run into Link, throwing him aside if Link stands in the way of his route. )
First, I respect Sky for using Fi’s tracking system(forgot how it’s called in Game). Hated that mechanic in game so much that I would do anything to not use it. Most time I also found it useless, sorry Fi.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Love that THAT is the exactly how you run 80% of the time with your sword in hand in Skyward Sword! Gotta love the detail!
Tumblr media
(Love this little game reference so much!!!)
Canonically confirmed, the only character with no trust issues whatsoever!
Tumblr media
Four was right and nobody is acknowledging that!
Tumblr media
(Also I don’t know if this is also a reference to Minish Cap, where you see the Postman leave Town but you never see him outside. It also kinda feels like he is teleporting from spot to spot in town when you don’t see him running.)
This scene, I think we can really see who are the mains in charge of the group!
Tumblr media
Legend and Hyrule: looking at Time
Wild, Twilight and Four: looking at Warriors
Wars and Time are looking at each other.
I already speculate that Time only falls at leader position, because he is the oldest, and that Time and Warriors stand in the same position, both lead in good teamwork together. Warriors as a captain has been clearly brought more into focus the last couple of updates, and I think he will take more role as a leader during battle plans.
Lot of people put Twilight in this, but he is more passive leading, being a big brother his priority is to make everyone feel protected and safe. Pointing Time and Warriors clearly out as guides for the chain.
I can not tell where Sky’s position really is. As far as I am reading it right, I speculate that he is quietly taking everything in. Not only the other of the chain, but all the new things he is learning on the surface. In the game Sky is said to be a dreamer, always with his mind somewhere, but a quick learner.
So I am putting him as the Information gather(?), of the chain.

Go Sky! Drink your Monster Energy mix RockStar with a shot of RedBull, you deserve it.

Feelings on Minish Cap?
Minish cap is a stellar game. Very much underappreciated and my top wish for what should get remade in HD. The soundtrack is marvelous and I wish I could listen to it all day but the ~bits~ of the good old gameboy just don't work well with my migraine prone head. I truly hope newer fans get to experience the game in all it's glory sooner than later and it get the attention it deserves!!
I think Minish cap has a very unique identity. It has a lot of familiar things yet many totally new and unexpected sights! It almost feels like a fan game, but in like the best way possible. It's got that indie pixel vibe of something made with love.
...asfjggsjkf sorry this is another love letter ramble. Minish cap has a special place in my heart. It was the first Zelda game I ever played, although at the time I didn't know any english and would just run around the few areas that are open before the first dungeon, and I'd slap grass for fun. I was easy to entertain back then.
Years later I found my old gameboy colour and finally actually played the game. It's a real solid entry in the top-down zelda game world, although it could be just a LITTLE bit tighter in gameplay. Link's awakening and Oracle of Ages just really keep you on the move in a way modern games don't seem to.
Also Minish cap just has the most iconic official art in the franchise.
Basically Minish cap to me is an image of childhood. We're currently in an era for the franchise that's openly pointing out the horror of it's lore. I think it's high time we remember the joy and whimsy of the series too. The games that bring back that feeling of being a kid in the backyard playing heroes! The hero trope exists as a tragedy, but also to inspire us.
PS. to clarify I think the game is incredibly solid as it exists right now and the reason I want it remade is not because the current version needs an overhaul, but because I know a remake would give more people easier access to a game that's marvelous and also I'd cry. If you have a way to play it right now like... Do it, yo. No need to wait for an imaginary product I invented in my brain.

The reason why I don't mind that Zelda doesn't wield a sword in Echoes of Wisdom is because I never cared for having a "female Link".
Some people in the past have told me "why play Princess Zelda when Nintendo could just make the main character customizable or have a female option", and honestly, I hate that idea. I think it devalues Link as a character to just make him like the Pokemon Trainer or Squid Kid, and I personally enjoy Link being a more androgynous character which Nintendo really leaned towards in BotW and TotK. If Link is divided into "boy Link" and "girl Link" then that androgyny gets discarded. Not to mention that BotW/TotK made him so bland in so many cutscenes where he barely emotes at all despite having a lot of personality in the rest of the game: making him a generic self insert will just make him more bland out of necessity so people can project onto him. I much prefer Link having his own personality like in Skyward Sword or Wind Waker etc.
I want to play Princess Zelda because she has her own cool powers throughout the series. I don't need to play a female character because it's a female character, I want to play Princess Zelda or other versions of her like Sheik or Tetra because they're unique.
Furthermore, I do enjoy having unique gameplay styles. I'm really interested in Echoes of Wisdom because it is different. The 2D Zelda games don't really have much going on in the sword fighting department compared to the 3D games: they're very straightforward. It would be interesting for them to expand 2D sword fighting in the future somehow but I don't really know what they would do besides "swing sword, block with shield, attack weak point". The ability to summon minions to fight for you and to spawn all sorts of things sounds very exciting to me personally because it's going to be a very different game than past 2D Zeldas.
I hope that in the future we see more and different Princess Zeldas to play, and personally I would love some co-op titles where I can play with someone else. (It was my hopes and dreams for both Link and Zelda to be playable in TotK when it was first teased. Running around Hyrule with someone else like my twin would have been an absolute joy especially if Zelda had her own unique moveset.)
I just prefer variety. I don't play each Zelda game because I can swing a sword, I play it for the Ocarina of Time or the Wind Waker or the Minish Cap or the masks in Majora's Mask or all the other unique aspects of each game. The sword—besides Skyward Sword—is a method to hit stuff with but it's not often the star of the show, and I am usually disappointed when other items are not useful outside of their respective dungeons. I like how Nintendo is trying to incorporate abilities into the broader gameplay rather than specific uses like in the past because it gives me more options that just "identify the specific item needed in this situation" or "hit the weak spots like this with that".
That isn't to say that there can't be criticisms. For instance I noticed that spawning something with the staff is done by pressing the Y button and there's the whole scroll through items thing. I worry that only having one button assigned to this ability means that there will be a lot of menuing. I am hopeful that Zelda will have more options for different items besides the staff because the other face buttons are free for other things. The D pad icon also leaves space for 3 different things on the left too, so I am interested to see what other abilities Zelda will have available to her. Nintendo is not a stranger to hiding things about upcoming games, so I think there is a good chance that there is some else besides the staff in this game.
Anyway, I just wanted to get this off my chest. I am a female tradesperson, so I don't appreciate anyone insinuating that liking the different playstyle is tied to sexism and the idea that Zelda can't wield a sword (she did in Twilight Princess). I just don't think that a sword and shield is something that every game needs especially in a 2D Zelda where the other abilities are generally more interesting to me.
